TITONKA | Elida Matilda Brandt, 95, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the Titonka Care Center.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at Good Hope Lutheran Church, Titonka, with the Rev. S. Kim Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Titonka.

Elida Matilda Brandt was born April 19, 1918, in rural Titonka, Iowa, to Henry Bruno and Ellen (DeBoer) Stecker. Her mother and twin brother died a few days later. She was raised by her grandparents until her grandmother passed away and then was raised by her aunt, Maude Stecker. Elida attended country school and Titonka High School.

On February 5, 1941, Elida was married to Harley Brandt at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. The couple farmed east of Titonka for five years. They purchased a farm south of Titonka in 1946 and farmed there until 1982, when they moved into town.

Elida was an active member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, the Women~s Missionary Society and Women of ELCA and her circle group. She enjoyed the trip she and Harley took each summer to Walker, Minn., to vacation and fish. She enjoyed reading and gardening.

Elida enjoyed writing letters to her relatives and friends, recognizing special events in their lives. Her greatest joy was spending time with and caring for her grandchildren.

Elida became a resident of the Titonka Care Center in November 2002.

Survivors include her children, Margaret and husband Merle Phelps of Titonka, Dorothy Meisterburg of Des Moines, Iowa, Robert and wife Carolyn of Titonka, and Bonnie and husband Fred Eisenstadt of Sacramento, Calif., 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Elida was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother Fredrick, her husband Harley in November 2002, her daughter Ardith and husband Neal Loeschen, great-granddaughter Zimry Loeschen, her sister Martha Wibben and three brothers, Telko, Henry and Edward.
