MASON CITY | Barbara “Barb” JoAnna Carlson, 68, Mason City, formerly of Manly, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient unit from a short battle with cancer.

A memorial service for Barb will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street N.E., Mason City, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the chapel.

Barbara JoAnna Carlson was born on May 16, 1945, in Mason City, the daughter of John and Stella (Hepperly) Clark. She received her education in the Manly Community Schools, graduating from Manly High School. Barb also attended La~James Cosmetology College in Mason City. During her life, Barb worked at factories and also was a waitress and cook for various restaurants in the North Iowa area.

Barb enjoyed fishing, watching movies on TV, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jolene Carlson and special friend, Mark Gladwell of Mason City, and Jesse Carlson of Mason City, Steve (Denise) Carlson of Cresco, and Duane Carlson of Kensett; a brother, Jim Michalek of South Dakota, and her sister, Joyce Cody of Brighton, Colo.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her special friends, Sandi (Ron) Schlichting of Clear Lake, Rhonda Wendell of California, and Linda of Mason City; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and significant other, Gary Rollefson.
