Phyllis Irene Statlander was born March 10, 1924, on the family farm north of Alexander, daughter of Dan R. and Tena (Groen) Schmidt. She was baptized in the First Reformed Church in Meservey and attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade.
On Aug. 14, 1943, Phyllis was united in marriage with Herman Statlander at the Meservey First Reformed Church parsonage by Rev. Kampmann. This union was blessed with three children. Phyllis was a homemaker who lovingly cared for her children, tended a large garden with her husband and canned just about everything. She was an excellent cook, and her baking and cooking were only from scratch.
