Elinor Strouf was born March 20, 1920, in the county of Manitowoc, near the town of Mishicot, Wis., to Ladislav and Mayme (Schradle) Strouf. She was the second oldest of five children. Her siblings were Ladislav (Jim), Alvin, Helen and Norman. She grew up on a farm in the Myrtle/Hayward, Minn., area. She graduated from Austin High School in 1938.

After graduation, she met Floyd Dahlke at the Strevling Dairy near Austin, where he worked. They were married on March 7, 1940, at Northwood. They had four children: Bertha, Barbara, LeRoy and Kathryn.

Elinor and Bertha lived in Portland, Ore., and near an army base in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., while Floyd served in WWII. After the war, they moved often, living on many different farms in Iowa and Minnesota. They eventually settled on an acreage they were proud to call their own near Toeterville.

Elinor worked at the St. Ansgar Elementary School as a cook and custodian for many years. In the late 1980s they bought a home in Osage.

She was a very strong lady who worked hard and appreciated what she had. She enjoyed the simple things: time spent with family and friends, camping, dogs and most of all, tending her plants and taking care of her yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd in 1996, daughter Kathy in 2003, three brothers and her sister.

Elinor is survived by Bertha (Alvis) Moravec of Claremont, Minn., Barbara (Eugene) Strain of Kasson, Minn., and LeRoy (Janet) Dahlke of Riceville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
