Bettie, the daughter of James and Daisy (Clark) Ross, was born on Dec. 23, 1918. She graduated from Britt High School and worked for Northwestern Bell until the Britt office closed.
Bettie was united in marriage with Donald H. Anderson on Dec. 14, 1940, in Mason City. They were blessed with three sons, Don, Tom and Chuck. The couple made their home on the Anderson family farm until they moved to Britt upon their retirement in 1982.
Bettie was a true servant to the Lord and to her family. She was a member of the Britt Evangelical Free Church. For several years, she served as chairman for her church woman’s group known as FCWM. She was enthusiastic about raising money for missions and the ladies did so by embroidering dish towels and sewing baby quilts which then would be sold. She also devoted hundreds of hours tearing sheets to make bandages for a missionary hospital in Africa. For many years, she directed the church choir and sang in either a trio or duet.
Bettie’s hobbies were quilting, embroidery, flowers and she was an avid bird watcher. She will always be remembered as one who loved the Lord and also for her heartfelt welcomes, her contagious laugh, and her desire to be a good hostess. She is especially remembered for her chocolate chip cookies and her hot buttered popcorn.
Bettie is survived by her sons Don (Judy) Anderson and Chuck (Tonya) Anderson, all of Britt; five grandchildren: Brian (Stacy) Anderson and their daughters Abbigayle, Graciann, and Rozalyn of Waukee; Jodi (Jeff) Brown and their daughters Annelisa and Kylie of Albert Lea, Minn.; Eric Anderson, Kelly Anderson and Mitchel Anderson all of Britt; sisters-in-law Ruth Anderson of Peoria, Ill., Blanche Friedow of Britt and Marlys Bergstrom of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter-in-law Lorraine (Jim) Amelsberg and their family of Forest City; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald in 1985; her son Tom in 1974; granddaughter Heidi in 2006; grandson Adam in 1973; one sister Ireta Diebler and an infant brother Donald in 1922 along with numerous in-laws.
