GREENE | Margaret Chambers, 85, of Greene, formerly of Marble Rock, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Per Margaret’s request there will be no service at this time.

Margaret Mary Thompson Chambers was born March 17, 1928, at Muscatine, the daughter of Earl and Sadie (Kinney) Thompson. She graduated from Calmar High School in 1945.

On May 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lewis Chambers at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. They farmed all their lives near Marble Rock. Margaret also worked at the Floyd County Recorder’s Office for several years as well as owned and operated Margaret’s Gifts and Variety in Marble Rock. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church at Roseville and the Rosary Society.

Margaret enjoyed her many cats and bird watching. Family was always important to Margaret and she looked forward to sharing life with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret will be remembered as the “classic” homemaker.

Living family members include her husband of 65 years, Lewis Chambers of Greene; two children, Brian (Lorri) Chambers of Marble Rock and Brenda (Jeff) Nordman of Charles City; four grandchildren, Joshua (Hannah) Chambers, Seth Chambers, Emily Chambers and fiance Jordan Stowe and Kyle (Megan) LaBarge; and two great-grandchildren, Keely and Mckinley Chambers.

She was preceded by her parents and three sisters, Mildred (Mason), Virginia “Tommy” Scott and Betty Bidwell.
