MASON CITY | Marlyn G. Rhine, 72, of Mason City died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

Marlyn was born Aug. 5, 1941, in Forest City the son of Harold and Fern (Stiniker) Rhine. He graduated from Garner High School. Marlyn enlisted in the US Navy and served 4 years. He married Ida Enderson Aug. 21, 1965, in Lake Mills. In 1973, Marlyn went to work at Northwestern States Portland Cement Company where he worked 30 years. He retired in 2003. He was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Marlyn is survived by his wife, Ida, of Mason City; 1 brother, Darrell Rhine of Georgia; 3 step-brothers, Ralph W. (Marilyn) Hamand of Nora Springs, Lenard (Carol) Hamand of Nora Springs and Warren (Lyla) Hamand of Nora Springs; 1 nephew, Briar Rhine; 2 nieces, Jessica Taylor and Alexandra Rhine; 1 great-nephew, Evan, and 2 great-nieces, Olivia and Anna; many step-nieces and nephews, and on Ida’s side of the family, brothers and sisters-in-law, and additional nieces and nephews.
Marlyn was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Gerald Hamand; stepmother, Chris Rhine; and 3 brothers-in-law.
