GREENE | Funeral services for Milford Neal O’Brien, 83, of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Retz Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St., Greene, where a prayer service will be at 6 p.m.

Milford Neal O’Brien was born July 21, 1930, in rural Greene, the son of John and Wilhelmina (Drogemuller) O’Brien and entered into eternal rest at his home in Greene on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014. He received his education in public school graduating from Greene High School in 1949.

Neal was inducted into the United States Army in 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954.

Neal was united in marriage to Marjorie Mather on April 18, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Greene. This union was blessed with four children.

In 1949, Neal was employed by Dralle’s Department Store in their grocery department. He retired in 2011, having served three generations of Dralles. In his 62 years of faithful service, Neal waited on pretty much everyone in Greene. He was a kind and respectful gentleman who loved Greene and its people.

Neal was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He was a member of the American Legion Post 268 of Greene for 59 years. Neal also served on the Boy Scout Troop 26 committee and taught the Citizenship Merit Badges for well over 20 years. He supported all three of his sons and a grandson, as they achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

He enjoyed gardening, raising tomatoes from seed, watching birds, and especially the time he spent with family and friends.

Neal is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marjorie O’Brien, Greene; his children: Mark (Terri) O’Brien, Greene, Jolene Stalker (friend David Durbala), Mason City, David (Terri) O’Brien, Asbury; Jason (Susan) O’Brien, Philomath, Ore.; seven grandchildren: Gregory (fiancée Sara), Kristen, Evan, Johnathan, Brooke, Julia, Claire; one sister, Shirley (Bill) Henley, Clarksville; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Lyle (Charlotte), Robert (Eloise), and sister, Imogene (Don) Abbott.
