CHARLES CITY | Rena Holzer, 84, of Charles City, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

A funeral Mass for Rena Holzer will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

Hindarena Jeanette Dohlman Holzer was born Nov. 8, 1929, in Butler County, the daughter of Henry and Kate (Buseman) Dohlman. She received her education in Butler County.

On Feb. 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Eugene “Buck” Holzer at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. They farmed until they purchased the Floyd Y, which they operated for 17 years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Theresa Circle and Rosary Society. Her interests included playing cards, reading, sewing, quilting, cooking and baking. Rena loved going to the lake and always enjoyed meeting new people and sharing life’s experiences with family and friends.

Living family members include two children, Dean (Brenda) Holzer of Charles City and Diane (Denny) Hartogh of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Ryan (Kristi) Holzer, Kayla (Blaine) Henning, Travis Holzer, Chad (Liz) Hartogh and Kari (Zack) Reyburn; five great-grandchildren, Cora and Camilla Holzer, and Austin, Brenna and Carter Henning; four sisters, Minnie Klingenborg and Norma Kling, both of LeRoy, Minn., Faye Johnson of Osage and Judy (Joe) Langlie of Spring Valley, Minn.; a brother, George (Fern) Dohlman of LeRoy, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buck, on June 1, 1996; and seven brothers.
