MASON CITY | Winifred A. Rasmussen, 88, of Mason City, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Steve Hansen and the Rev. Keith Scott officiating.
Visitation was from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Winifred Rasmussen Memorial Fund in care of the family. Memorial contributions will be dispersed between Wesley United Methodist Church and Hospice of North Iowa. Winifred A. Rasmussen was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Mason City, the daughter of John Fred and Mabel Irene (Sears) Stockberger. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1944. Winifred was united in marriage to James “Jim” L. Rasmussen on March 2, 1946, in Mason City. She worked for United Home Bank for 10 years. Winnie was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook and baker. She loved dancing with her husband, particularly ballroom and square dancing. Winnie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time at their cottage in Clear Lake. Winnie was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she was active in Priscilla Circle and other various committees. Winnie was a wonderful woman and wife. She will be missed greatly.
Winifred is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jim Rasmussen; three children: Kristine Rasmussen of Mason City, Steven Rasmussen and wife Bonnie of Sunrise Beach, Mo., Rhonda Nelson and husband Charles of West Des Moines; two grandchildren, Travis McCray of West Des Moines, and Echo Hartgers and husband Jacob of Newton; two great-grandchildren, Mason McCray and Kellan Hartgers; one brother, George Stockberger and wife Mary Lou of Mason City; a brother-in-law, Frank Weiss; three sisters-in-law, Vera Stockberger of Mason City, Leona Buffington of Mason City, and Verna Ouverson and husband Jack of Clear Lake. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Caroline Dyer; twin brothers in infancy, Ronald and Richard; one brother, Lloyd Stockberger; three sisters, Viola Fisk, Ellen Weiss and Betty Clarke; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Riekena and husband John.
