Oliver S. Carlson, age 89, of Algona, Iowa died on Friday January 3, 2014 at his home. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Algona, with Rev. Loren Shellabarger officiating. Flag presentation will be conducted by the VFW Post #2541 and the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post #90 of Algona. Visitation will be 9:00 – 11:00 AM Saturday at the church.

Oliver Sigvard Carlson, the son of Oscar Valfrid and Blanche Agnes (Dunlap) Carlson, was born on February 26, 1924 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 12, 1947, Oliver was united in marriage with Betty Lou Wilkins at the Riverside Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove, Iowa. He owned and operated Carlson Farm Management from 1957 – 1985. Oliver was one of the five original developers of Oak Lake. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners and the Lions. Oliver enjoyed politics, traveling, taking pictures and spending time with family at the “40”.

Left to cherish Oliver’s memory are three sons, Thomas J. Carlson and his wife Joyce of Humboldt, Dennis J. Carlson of Algona, and Steven L. Carlson and his wife Tricia of Algona; a daughter, Joan Keehn and her husband Glen of Algona; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brothers, Dr. Oscar V. Carlson and his wife Marilyn of Onalaska, WI, Donald Carlson and his wife Deb of Fort Dodge, and Larry Carlson and his wife Sheryl of Alta; a sister, Donna Stelling of Pocahontas; a sister-in-law, Nola Carlson of Storm Lake and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty in 2007; a son, William Carlson; two brothers, Arvid and Glen Carlson; and a sister, Irma Harris.
