NORTHWOOD | Richard Maurice Gordon, 84, died at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa, Mason City, on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014. Funeral service will be on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery, Kensett. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood. www.schroederandsites.com

Richard was born in Mason City, Iowa, to Ernest and Marjorie Gordon on Jan. 9, 1930.

He graduated from Kensett High School in 1947. He married Marlys Hanson in November 1950. They resided on a farm outside of Kensett.

To this union four children were born, Randy, Rick, Joel and Jessica.

After Marlys~ death in 1996, Richard was united in marriage to Norma Evans, December 2001.

Richard had many interests over the years which included his life-long passion for farming. He was a coin collector, bird watcher and an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed going to antiques stores and had a variety of collections.

Richard enjoyed family vacations, holidays, playing cards and visits with his children and grandchildren.

He was a life time member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marlys, and brother Tom Gordon.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Norma of Northwood, Randy (Andy) Mooney of Abbotsford, B.C.; Richard Jr (Roxy) Gordon of Plymouth; Joel (Kris) Gordon of Kensett; and Jessica Marvin of Mason City; step-children John (Janet) Evans of Minneapolis, Minn., Paul (Dawn) Evans of Forest City; his sister Betty (Duane) Huisman of Waverly and grandchildren Bennett, Harrison, Maxwell, Samuel Mooney, Heather, Nathan, Matthew Gordon, Jacob, Michael Gordon, Kyle (Megan Binstock, fiancée), Tyler, Alyssa Marvin; step-grandchild Ian Evans; great-grandchild Caleb Oelberg.
