MASON CITY | John P. Quinones, 74, of Mason City, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating.

A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel.

Burial will be held in the Elmwood/St. Joseph Cemetery.

John Peter Quinones was born on Sept. 9, 1939, in Mason City, to John M. and Victoria (Gutierrez) Quinones. He grew up in Mason City, was baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph Catholic Church and attended public school here. After John finished school he served honorably with the United States Navy as a boiler tender aboard the U.S.S. Boston. John honorably and faithfully served from September 1956 until September 1962. John was a member of the VFW Post 733 in Mason City.

After his military service John eventually returned to Mason City. John started working at Key Wholesale Building Products and remained for 34 years, retiring in 2005.

On May 15, 1971, John was united in marriage to Linda K. Ulrich. They were inseparable until she passed in 2010.

John loved to play pull tabs, play cards, collected coins and played cribbage. He was especially fond of his old movies. John also enjoyed reading about World War II and talking about his military adventures and experiences. Most of all he loved his grandkids and spending time with them.

John is survived by his children Tracy (Skip) and Michelle (Roger); grandchildren, Amanda, Elsie, Lindsay and Elijah; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Leigha; sisters, Amelia (Gene) Frenz, Lake Oswego, Ore.; Gloria Baker, Mesa, Ariz.; Mary (Wayne) Schmitt, Mason City; brothers, Leo Quinones, Hampton; and Patrick (Mary) Quinones, Soledad, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife Linda; son Randy; mother and father, John and Victoria; sisters, Juanita and Beeda; and his brothers, William and Raymond, as well as many other extended family members.
