Dale W. Feldt
Dale W. Feldt, age 68, of
rural Osage died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at his residence.
The funeral service for Mr.
Feldt will be at 1:30 PM Saturday, October 3, 2009 at St. John's
Lutheran Church, Rock Township, rural Grafton, Iowa with Rev. Wayne
Ellingson officiating. Burial will take place at St. John's
Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 South School Street, St. Ansgar, IA.
Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service Saturday at
the church.
Dale W. Feldt was born on
July 2, 1941 to Lloyd and Freida (Dieterich) Feldt at Osage, Iowa.
He was baptized on July 20, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St.
Ansgar, IA. He was then confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in
St. Ansgar, IA on April 14, 1957. He went to rural school in Rock
Township, Mitchell County, Iowa and later attended school in St. Ansgar,
IA. Farming was a very big part of his life having farmed the
family farm all of his life. He loved and looked forward to his
fishing trips to Canada with his brother and nephews. He always
looked forward to flying his power parachute.
He was preceded in death by
his father and grandparents.
Survivors include his
mother Freida Feldt of Osage; sister, Kathy Tusler and her husband Scott
of Osage, IA; brother Larry Feldt and his wife Elaine of Osage, IA; one
niece and seven nephews.

John Otto Diedrich
John Otto Diedrich,92, of St. Ansgar died October 3, 2009 at St. Ansgar
Good Samaritan Society, St. Ansgar. 
The funeral service for Mr. Diedrich will be Wednesday, October 7, 2009
at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton with Rev. Rose Marie
Nack officiating. Burial will be in Grafton Cemetery, Grafton, IA.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
John Otto Diedrich, the son of William F. and Freeda (Dutte) Diedrich,
was born December 4, 1916 in Mitchell County, Iowa. He was
baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, where he
was a lifelong member. John received his education at the Newburg
District School in Mitchell County.
John began farming with his father in the Grafton area and after his
father's early death, continued to farm and also cared for his mother.
Following retirement, John continued living on the farm and in 2006, he
became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar where he was
very happy.
John was known for his dry sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing,
reading, writing in his daily journal, bus tours, mowing his lawn, and
he especially loved playing cards. In the last couple months, he
looked forward to taking rides in the country to check out the crops and
visit his farm.
John is survived by his nephew, David Diedrich, and wife, Darlene, two
nieces, Janice Morrison of Albert Lea, MN and Julie Braun and special
friend David Ward of Mason City, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harry Diedrich and
wife Velma, and an infant brother.

Minona E. Zellmer
Minona E. (Dettmann)
Zellmer, 80, of St. Ansgar, IA died Saturday (October 17, 2009) at the
Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, October 22 at
First
Lutheran
Church
in St. Ansgar with The Rev. Robert P. Porisch officiating. Burial will
be in the Arlington
Township
Cemetery, Moville, IA
at 5:30 pm. A prayer
service will be held at 7:00 pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church
in Moville, IA.
The family will greet friends for lunch at the First Lutheran
Fellowship Hall following the funeral until noon.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm Wednesday, October 21 at
Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar.
Minona Emilie Frieda Dettmann was born March 24,
1929 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Watertown,
WI
to Arthur W. and Adelheid O. (Klemke) Dettmann of rural Johnson Creek, WI.
She was baptized on April 29, 1929, and confirmed on March 29,
1942 at Immanuel
Lutheran
Church
in Watertown, WI.
She grew up on the family farm, graduated from the 8th
grade at the Rock River Valley School,
and in 1946 graduated from
Johnson
Creek High
School. In 1946 - 47 she attended Wartburg College
and subsequently graduated from the Milwaukee
Hospital (Passavant) School of Nursing
in 1950. On June 29, 1952
she married Richard E. Zellmer of
Moville,
IA.
She entered eternal life on October 17, 2009 after a five week
illness with cancer.
As the oldest of seven children, family became an
important part of Minona’s life which continued through her commitment
to her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Minona’s parents supported her childhood dream of
pursuing an education to become a nurse. She dedicated her professional
nursing career to caring for patients in hospitals and nursing homes in
Milwaukee,
WI, Seguin, TX, Dubuque, IA, Wausau, WI, Monticello, IA, West
Union, IA, and until 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, IA.
She lived out her faith and devotion to the church with many
activities, from Luther League as a youth, to creating baptismal
banners, and even in her later years, leading women’s circle Bible
studies, and organizing and baking for the church fellowship hour. Her
yeast breads and treats will long be remembered by many. She also loved
gardening and was a skilled seamstress.
Survivors
include two sons, Mark (Debra Daehn) Zellmer of La Crosse, WI, and
grandchildren, Timothy of St. Paul, MN and Bethany of La Crosse, WI;
Joel (Jodi) Zellmer, and granddaughter Emma of Liberty Lake, WA; two
daughters, Kristin Brown (Jacki Ebbeka) of Laramie, WY, and grandson
Eric (Cambria) Zellmer with great-granddaughter Ava, of Laramie, WY; and Heidi Zellmer, and grandson Jared Zellmer, of Charles
City, IA. Minona is also
survived by siblings Joanne (Harry) Ballard of Moneta, VA, Faith Yops of
Roanoke, IN, Paul (Margaret) Dettmann of Dubuque, IA, Timothy (Amy)
Dettmann of Johnson Creek, WI, and Daniel (Shirley) Dettmann of Madison,
WI, and sister-in-law, Evelyn Dettmann of Watertown, WI, along with
several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Frederick
Dettmann, her husband of 40 years, Rev. Richard Zellmer, and a
brother-in-law, Robert Yops, Jr.

Don
Popp
Donald Lee Popp, age 71, of
Osage, passed away unexpectedly at his home,
Saturday, October 24, 2009. Don was born
January 18, 1938
in
Mitchell County,
the son of John and Frances (Falk) Popp.
He attended Rock No. 1 Country School and graduated from
Osage
High School.
He served in the Army National Guard.
On June 18, 1960,
Don was united in marriage to Mary Ann Halfman.
From that union came four children.
Mary Ann passed away in 1992.
Don worked construction and in the late 1960’s started Popp
Excavating. On
August 14, 1993, Don was united in marriage to Jo (Hofmeister)
Hackenmiller. Don enjoyed
fishing, snowmobiling and pontooning, but his greatest passion was
working.
Mass
of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday October 27,
2009, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation is
from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage where there will be a scripture service at 8:00 p.m.

Leona I. Richards
Leona I. Richards, age 89, of Osage and formerly of Carpenter, passed
away Tuesday, October 13, 2009,
at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, where she had been a resident for
nearly two years. Leona was born
July 9, 1920, in Osage, the daughter of Frederick and Ida (Hartwig)
Havig. She attended and
graduated from Osage
High School. Leona was united in
marriage to Glenn C. Richards of Otranto, on
June
3, 1942, at her family home.
They are the parents of three children; Nancy, Kathy and Lynn.
Her husband Glenn, was the love of her life and when he passed
away in 1998, part of her went with him, Leona then moved to the
Evergreen Assisted Living in Osage.
She was a life long member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in
Osage. Leona enjoyed
attending the Birthday Club, gardening and canning, planting flowers and
lots of baking for her family.
Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m.

Merritt Vern Beaman
Merritt Vern Beaman, 85, of St. Ansgar
died Tuesday, October 12 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be conducted at
the St. Ansgar Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 17. A
visitation will be held directly prior to the service at
10:00 am and a
lunch will follow.

Merritt, the man who was
synonymous for many years with the Central Iowa Telephone Company, was
born June 22, 1924. He grew up and graduated in Mondamin, Iowa.
He married Shirley Jean Morice on
October 10, 1945. Together they raised three children: Merritt, Denise,
and David. Shirley preceded Merritt in death, succumbing to cancer after
over 40 years of marriage.
Merritt’s eldest son, Merritt, is a
teacher in West Des Moines
and is married to Marsha. Merritt’s Daughter, Denise lives in
Waterloo
and is married to Tim Hackenmiller. They have three children: Nikki,
Cassie, and Chad.
Cassie is married to Cameron Schmitt. They have three boys: Logan, Kegan,
and Ethan.
David, the youngest son, is married and
living in West Des Moines. He is married to Jeannie and
they have four children: Stephanie, Brandon, Josh, and Megan.
Merritt is survived by his wife of 19
years. He married Beulah Inez Beaman on July 14, 1990. His expanded
family includes Carol (Montgomery)
Mensink; Carol’s daughter and son, Sarah and Tyler. Sarah and her
husband, Jay Craig, have a daughter Mckinley.
Other survivors are half-sisters: LaVera
and husband Gene Sorick, of Gulf Shores, Al, and Melva Jane and husband
Frank Edgor of Lee’s Summit, Mo.
During the 60’s, Merritt and Shirley
hosted two Brazilian foreign exchange students who have grown and raised
their own families but still call him “Dad”, solidifying his world class
father figure status.
Merritt was involved in his community,
instantly bonded with strangers making them friends, was trustworthy and
trusting; incapable of harboring ill-will. He was a member of the
American Legion, as well as served on the St. Ansgar City Council.
He was grateful for his blessings even when his health
deteriorated. A model patient, he often emerged from the hospital after
a setback, transforming contacts into friendships. Because of his deep
wish to continue giving, he chose early on to be an organ donor.
One of his great joys in life was
traveling. He was able to visit such places as; Brazil, Europe, Hawaii,
Alaska, and much of the mainland United States.
Throughout school, Merritt participated
in sports. This love of sports continued into later years. He spent many
hours cheering on his favorite teams; the Vikings, the Twins, and the
Iowa
Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed dancing, singing, and music of all sorts.
Merritt’s graciousness and good-nature will always be remembered by
those whose lives he touched.
