Funeral services for Arthur W. Dettmann, 99, who died on Easter
Sunday, April 20, 2003, were held on Wednesday, April 23 at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Water-town, Wisconsin.
Arthur is survived by a daughter, Minona Zellmer of St. Ansgar;
two granddaughters, Kristin Brown of Toeterville and Heida
Zellmer of Laramie, Wyoming and Jared Zellmer of Charles City.

Funeral
services for Jerry Jordahl, 67, of St. Ansgar, who died Tuesday,
April 22, 2003 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital Hospice
Unit, were held on Saturday, April 26 at Immanuel Lutheran
Church in St. Ansgar with the Rev. Byron Northwick officiating.
Jerry Jordahl was born March 5, 1936 in Rake, Iowa, to Joseph
and Margaret (Olson) Jordahl. He graduated from St. Ansgar in
1954. He attended Waldorf College from 1954 - 1955. He served in
the United States Army as a member of the 526th Field Artillery
Missile Battalion at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1956 - 1958. He
married Gloria Hansen on June 9, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran
Church.
Jerry worked in the
furniture business for 35 years and most recently retiring from
Dungery's Furniture, Osage, where he served as store manager.
Jerry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April of 2000.
During the following three years Jerry's strength and will to
survive touched many lives. He became a source of consultation
and inspiration to others suffering from pancreatic cancer
throughout the country. He was always willing to listen and
offer encouragement to all he spoke with. He became active in
the American Cancer Society and he, along with his wife, Gloria,
were chosen as the honorary co-chairs for the Mitchell County
Relay for Life in 2002.
Jerry was inducted into the St. Ansgar Booster Club Athletic
Hall of Fame in April 2002 for his outstanding athletic
achievements. He enjoyed golf, gardening and working in his
workshop. He loved traveling and especially enjoyed his Panama
Canal Cruise with friends and a trip to the East with Gloria. He
loved spending time with his four grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Gloria; his children, Kari
(David) Fomon of Coralville and Erik Jordahl of Bettendorf;
grandchildren Josh and Kristin Fomon and Taylor and Nicholas
Jordahl; mother, Margaret Jordahl; mother-in-law, Wilma Hansen;
brother-in-law Richard (Helen) Hansen of La Habra, California
and his niece, Dana Schauster and nephew, Mark Hansen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph and father-in-law
Lloyd Hansen.
Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.
Clifford Severson

Funeral services for Clifford Donald Severson, 95, of Austin,
Minnesota, who died Monday, April 28, 2003 at St. Mark's
Lutheran Home in Austin, were held Thursday, May 1 at Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin.
Clifford Donald Severson was born January 16, 1908, to Sam and
Sarah (Ellingboe) Severson. Donald grew up to be a basketball
player and baseball player at Carpenter School. He lived in
Illinois where he made sample hardware for salesmen to use as
display for cupboards, etc. He moved to northern Minnesota and
later moved back to Iowa.
He married Icle F. (Greiner) on March 28, 1942 at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua and moved to the home place to farm and
sell DeKalb corn. In 1953 Don retired from farming and the
family moved to Carpenter where he took the job of teller at
Carpenter Bank and later became the manager. Don and Icle moved
to Florida in 1960 where he got a job as loan officer at Pratt
Whitney Aircraft Corporation. After 24 years they returned to
the midwest making the home in Austin. Don enjoyed reading,
politics and cars.
He is survived by a daughter, Kaye (Irving) Nagel of Rose Creek;
a son, Bruce (Susan) Severson of Collinsville, Oklahoma; five
grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren, many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold, Roy and
Lloyd.
Interment was at Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle.

Leon K. Thome

A
funeral mass for Leon K. Thome, 70, of Riceville, who died
Saturday, April 26 from a farming accident, was held on
Wednesday, April 30 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville
with Father Mark Reasoner and Father John Hemann officiating.
Leon was born November 18, 1933 to Albert and Rose (Hoerter)
Thome. Leon was a lifelong farmer and resident of Stacyville
Leon and Joan spent winters in Yuma, Arizona where he enjoyed
desert trips and the sport of sand dunning and desert railing.
Leon is survived by his wife, Joan; children, James (Babette)
Thome of Earlham, Iowa; Theresa (Roy) Deines of Scottsbluff,
Nebraska; Denise (Michael) Johnson of Kanawha, Iowa; Kevin (Shonn)
of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; Peter (Cheryl) Thome of rural
Stacyville; Christopher (Kelly) Thome of Stanwood, Washington;
Catherine Logan and special friend, Verne Burk of Rockwell;
stepchildren, Robert Wood of Little Canada, Minnesota; Julie
(Arthur) Morrison of Quincy, Michigan; Bruce (Lisa) of Altus,
Oklahoma; 32 grandchildren; six grandchildren. Surviving
siblings are Arthur and Daniel of Stacyville, Dale of Waterloo,
and Mary Jane Foxen of New Haven.
Leon was preceded in death by a son Bruce; an infant grandchild,
Nathan, his parents and a sister, Arlene Grell; a brother Gene.
Also deceased is his former wife Constance Badker (Duren).
Interment was in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Edith Juenger

Funeral services for Edith E. Juenger, 71, of Osage, who died on
Monday, May 12, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason
City, were held on Friday, May 16 at St. Ansgar Catholic Church
with Father Mark Reasoner officiating.
Edith was born January 15, 1932 to Curtis and Wilma (Hewitt)
Duncan. She married Luke Juenger August 3, 1949 at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Osage. Edith enjoyed turtle fishing, sewing,
playing bingo and her cat, Tootsie.
Edith is survived by three children: daughter Shirley and
husband Jerry Nitschke of LeMar, Arkansas; son Tom and wife Kris
Juenger of Garner; and daughter Bev and husband Duane Steiger of
Orchard; six grandchildren, Sheila Taylor, Cristy Taylor, Bryan
Juenger, Jason Juenger, Karia Juenger and Mark Steiger; three
grandchildren, Christina Taylor, Jessie Taylor and Olivia
Juenger; two great great grandchildren, Tristin Taylor and
Kailey Taylor; a sister, Erma Duponcheele of Stacyville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Luke in 1990,
brother Wilfred and brother-in-law, Robert Duponcheele.
Olger Tenold

Memorial services for Olger E. Tenold, 77, of rural Northwood,
who died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at his home, were held on
Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Sion Lutheran Church of rural Lake
Mills with Rev. Ton Hagen officiating.
Olger Wilmer Tenold was born on February 28, 1926 in Brookfield
Township, rural Worth County. He was the son of Elmer and Anna (Kvale)
Tenold. He was baptized and confirmed at Bristol Lutheran
Church, rural Joice. He attended rural school, graduating from
Kensett High School in 1944
He entered the United States Navy in 1944 where he served two
years active duty and four years in the Navy reserve.
After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1949 he returned
and married Gaylis Borchardt on June 26, 1949. They lived and
farmed along Renold Road for 54 years. He served as Democratic
County Chairman for Worth County for several years, the
Northwood School Board and Sion Lutheran Church Council. He
received Master Pork Producer and Outstanding Young Farmer
recognitions. He enjoyed raising livestock and the people who
were associated with it. Olger was a dedicated conservationist
his whole life. He loved hunting, fishing the outdoors. He
enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. Throughout his
life, his family was his greatest joy.
Olger is survived by his wife, Gaylis of Northwood; two
daughters, Kaaren Tenold of Anoka, Minnesota and Nancy Bein and
husband John of Bondurant, Iowa two sons, Russel Tenold and wife
Renate and John Tenold and wife Mary, both of rural Northwood;
brother-in-law, Lawrence Borchardt and wife Doris of Cleveland,
Minnesota; grandchildren, Sarah and Mike Espinoza of Des Moines;
Eric Bein of Bondurant; Rebecca and Jennifer Tenold of
Northwood; Gage Tenold of Northwood; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Marvin and
Reuben; sister Clarice; sister-in-law, Opal Tenold.
Burial will be in Sion Lutheran Cemetery. Olger’s body will be
cremated.
