Wava Mae Thome
May 9, 2001
Wava Mae Thome, age 86, of Osage, died on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the Stacyville
Community Nursing Home, Stacyville.
Funeral services were
held on Tuesday, May 8, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage. Rev. Philip Recker
officiated and burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery,
Osage. The Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Wava was born on August
19, 1914, to Harvey and Alta (Lynn) Krumlinde in Dike, Iowa, the
first of four children. They moved to the Floyd area in 1928 and
later to Mitchell County, where she completed her 8th grade
education. Wava was united in marriage to Roman Thome on April 6,
1942, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer. They had
just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. They lived in the
Osage area before moving into Osage in 1967.
In the early years
of her marriage, Wava midwifed and helped many young mothers with
their children. She was a cook at the Mitchell County Care
Facility. She was a Brownie Troop Leader. She was a cook at the
Sacred Heart Catholic School for 14 years. She also cooked at the
Knights of Columbus Hall and catered weddings. In the summers, she
cooked at the Faith Lutheran Home. After her retirement in 1978, she
assisted many elderly people with daily chores and errands. If
someone needed her, she was there.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; one sister, Marian; and two brothers,
Kenneth and Richard.
Those that survive
her include her husband, Roman; two daughters, Joeleen Samec and
husband, Richard of New Hampton and their children, Jerry,
Randy and Jill; Deanna Shoars and her husband, Michael of Orchard
and their children, Chad and Chris; one sister-in-law, Ruth Krumlinde of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Myrtle Anderson
May 9, 2001
Myrtle E. Anderson,
age 90, of Osage, died on February 27, 2001. She was cremated and
graveside inurnment services were held on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at
the Osage Cemetery, with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. The Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home, Osage, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ila L. Kittleson
May 9, 2001
Ila L. Kittleson, age 94, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday, May
6, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will
be held on Thursday, May 10, at 1:30 p.m., at the First Lutheran
Church, St. Ansgar.
Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the First
Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation is from 5-8:00 p.m., on
Wednesday evening, at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Ila
Kittleson, was born on October 17, 1906 in Breda, Iowa, to Edward W. and
Augusta (Sinn) Bookhart. She graduated from the Ida Grove High School
in 1924 and also graduated from the University of Iowa in 1929.
Ila married Sherwin
R. Kittlseon on April 28, 1930 in Mason City. She worked at the
St. Ansgar Public Library starting in July of 1949 and retiring in
February of 1986. She was a librarian at the St. Ansgar High School for
nine years, concurrent with the public library position. The 1966
Saints Highlights (St. Ansgar High School Yearbook) was dedicated
to her. Ila enjoyed stamp collecting, reading, her rose garden,
fishing trips to Minnesota and bird watching.
She is survived by
her children, Edward Kittleson and his wife, Mary of Greene, Dr.
Sherwin (Stan) Kittleson and his wife, Judi of Angel Fire, New Mexico,
Karen Bloom and her husband, Darrell of Austin, Minnesota and Roger
Kittleson and his wife, Julie of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; her husband who died on December 13, 1990; and two
sisters.

Margaret Fox
May 15, 2001
Margaret Fox, age 88, of Riceville, died on Thursday, May
10, 2001, at the Riceville Community Rest Home.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 14, at the
Immaculate Conception Church, Riceville. Rev. Ray Atwood
officiated and graveside services were held in the Calvary Cemetery,
Riceville.
Margaret Marie Arens, was born
on March 18, 1913 in Remsen, the
daughter of Nicholas and Margaret (Bauer) Arens. She attended
school in Marshall, Minnesota. Before her marriage, Margaret lived and
worked in California for a few years. In 1941, she moved to
Minnesota and worked in a defense plant at the start of World War
II.
On October 9, 1942,
Margaret was united in marriage to Leonard J. Fox in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to a farm two miles west and
two miles south of Riceville and two years later moved to the farm
they called home five and one miles south of Riceville. In 1983,
they moved into Riceville and Margaret lived there until she
entered the Riceville Community Rest Home in March of 2001.
She was a member of the
Immaculate Conception Church and its Altar and Rosary Society and
enjoyed painting and gardening.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; a daughter, Kathryn Foster; a grandson,
Wade Foster; a brother, Clarence Arens; and a sister, Lillian
Arens in infancy.
Those that survive
her include her husband, Leonard; children and spouses, Dennis and
wife, JoAnn of Rochester, Minnesota, Diane and husband, Orville Engelhardt
of Humble, Texas, Bernard of Dubuque, Marilyn and husband, Ron Reis
of Lime Springs, Duane and wife, Jill of Kansas City, Missouri, Peter J.
and wife, Jolene of Forest City, Richard of Riceville, Patricia J.
Fox of Chanhassen, Minnesota and Greg and wife, Becky of Riceville; 28
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four
step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Evelyn Larson of
Maplewood, Minnesota, Catherine Blaeser of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, Mildred Lanoue of Waubun, Minnesota and Irene Olchefski of Fridley, Minnesota.

Beverly J.
Leraaen
May 15, 2001
Beverly J. Leraaen, age 65, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday,
May 13, 2001, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 17, at 1:00
p.m., at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Rev.
Robert Porisch will officiate and burial will be in the First
Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation is on Wednesday, from 5-8:00
p.m., at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Beverly was born on March
22, 1936 in Austin, Minnesota, to Edmund and Elinor (Anderson) Bachman.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church,
Lyle, Minnesota. She grew up in Lyle and graduated from the Lyle High School
in 1954. Beverly was united in marriage to Oral "Bud" K. Leraaen
on May 15, 1955. They made their home in St. Ansgar and raised
three children, Nancy, Scott and Eric.
She worked at St. Ansgar
Mills from 1963 to 1979 as a bookkeeper. She then worked at the St.
Ansgar School District as Business Manager/Board Secretary from
1979 to 1984. Bev and Bud moved to Boone, Iowa in 1984, where she
was business manager and board secretary for the Boone Community
Schools for 13 years. In Boone, she was secretary of the Morning
Kiwanis for five years, Director of the Boone County Credit Bureau
for five years and was a member of the Boone Golf and Country
Club. She was also an active member of the Augustana Lutheran
Church in Boone.
Bev and Bud
returned to St. Ansgar in 1997 to be closer to family and friends.
She served as President of the American Legion Auxiliary for two
terms, was an active member of the church she loved, the First
Lutheran Church, the Mary-Ruth Circle and served as church
treasurer. She was an active member of the community, enjoyed
socializing with her many friends.
Preceding her in
death was her infant son, Steven; her father, Edmund; and a brother,
Bruce.
Those that survive
her include her husband, Bud; her mother, Elinor of Lyle, Minnesota;
daughter, Nancy Johnson of Osage and her children, Bryan and Julie;
two sons, Scott and his wife, Denise of St. Ansgar and their
children, Nelle, Leah, Rycki and Stevie and Eric and his wife,
Lynn of St. Ansgar; one sister, Sue Young of Pomona, California and her son,
Kevin; brother-in-law, Galen and wife, Janice of St. Ansgar; and
sister-in-law, Bonnie and her husband, Bill of Elko, Nevada.

Mildred Sorbo
May 15, 2001
Mrs. Gilman (Mildred) Sorbo, died on Sunday, May 13, 2001,
at the Stacyville Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 10:00
a.m., at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. Pastors
Steve Smith and Al Stoa will officiate and burial will be in the
Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7:00 p.m., on Friday,
at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.
Mrs. Sorbo, the former
Mildred Willand, was born on July 12, 1910 in Worth County, the
daughter of Wilhelm and Clara (Calgaard) Willand. On June 30, 1934,
she married Gilman Sorbo at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
They spent their early married years near Manly and rural
Northwood. They then made their permanent home in the rural Silver
Lake area, Northwood. Finally, they moved to the Maple Court
Apartments in Northwood, where Mildred enjoyed her last seven
years.
Mildred was an
active member of the Silver Lake Parish until the time of her
death. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, and enjoyed cooking,
baking, crossword puzzles and playing cards.
For many years, she
was employed by the St. Johns Lutheran Retirement Home in Albert
Lea, Minnesota.
Preceding her in
death were her husband; an infant son; three brothers, Walter
Willand, Orin and Stanley Willand; four brothers-in-law; and one
sister-in-law.
Those that survive
her include her daughter, Marcia Klapperich and her husband, Norman
of Stacyville; three grandchildren, Nicole Klapperich of Kansas
City, Missouri, Ryan Klapperich and his wife, Bridget of Wichita, Kansas and
Michael Klapperich, a student at Iowa State University, Ames; and
one great-grandson, Colin Klapperich of Wichita, Kansas; three
sisters, Opal Solomonson and husband, John of Lake Mills, Esther Bodde of Hampton and Myrtle Tapps of Mason City; one brother,
Clarence Willand and wife, Fern of Joice; four sisters-in-law, Ellnora Willand of Northwood, Carol Willand of Joice, Dorothy
Towne and her husband, Earl of Emmons, Minnesota and Nina Sorbo of
Estherville.

Joseph Peter
Weber, age 80, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Riceville, died
on Monday, May 14, 2001, at Lexington, after an extended
illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 17, at 1:30
p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Christ,
Riceville. Rev.
Herschel Hawf will officiate and burial will be in the Liberty
Cemetery, Little Cedar, Iowa. Friends may call on Wednesday, at the
Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, during the hours of 4-8:00 p.m.
Joe
Weber, was born on May 22, 1920 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to William and Mary
Mueller Weber. He attended local schools. Joe was employed as a
mechanic and was engaged in farming. On November 1, 1941, he was united
in marriage to Cleo Witzel.
Preceding him in
death were his parents; four brothers, Ralph, Bob, Vincent and
James; two sisters, Katheren and Marie; and a granddaughter, Mindy.
Those that survive
him include his wife, Cleo of Lexington, Kentucky; two sons, Jerry and
his wife, Marie of Elkader and their children, Michelle, Jason
and Aaron and son, Dean and his wife, Bonita of Rockwell and
their children, Wade and his wife, Caryn and their child, Cedric,
Wendy, Micha and Mandy; one daughter, Mary and her husband, Jim

Barbara Morrow
June 5, 2001
Barbara Ann Morrow, age 60, of Evansdale, formerly of Osage,
died on Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Covenant Medical
Center, Waterloo, of cancer.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 18, at the St.
John’s Catholic Church, Waterloo.
Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Waterloo. The Hagarty-Waychoff
Grarup Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
Barbara
was born on November 16, 1940 in Osage, the daughter of Leo R. and Norma K.
Michaels Fritz. She married Wilbert Leroy Morrow on June 26, 1964 in
Cedar Falls.
Preceding her in
death were her parents.
Those that survive
her include her husband; two sons, Darrell of Denver and William of
Deltona, Florida; three daughters, Julie Morrow of Waterloo, Shelda
Brenner of North Liberty and Pam Morrow of Cedar Rapids; 10
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jo Roeber of New Ulm, Minnesota.

Donald Clapp
May 23, 2001
Donald Clapp, age 74, of Riceville, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at
his residence following an illness.
Funeral services were held on
Saturday, May 19, at the First Congregational United Church
of Christ, Riceville, with Rev. Carol Ivey and Rev. Hershel Hawf
officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville,
with military rites by the Roy Gue Post 244 of the American Legion.
The
Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, was in charge of the arrangements.
Donald was born on December 31, 1926, the son of Elmo and Mabel Graff
Clapp in Howard County. He attended local schools and was a
graduate of the Riceville High School. He served in World War II in
the security agency from 1944 to 1945. On February 11, 1966, he was
united in marriage to Ethel Drewelow. He was a barber, worked on
the railroad, put in field tile and retired as part owner of the
Mini Mart in Riceville.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Dorothy;
and one
son David James Clapp.
Those that survive him include his wife, Ethel of Riceville; one
son, Randy E. Clapp of Cresco; three daughters, Connie Jenkins
and her husband, Jeff of Little Cedar, Noell Kramer of Northwood
and Darla Clapp of Granger, Minnesota; six grandchildren; one brother,
Lester Clapp and his wife, Marcelle of Rochester, Minnesota; and one sister,
Alta Jean Faubert and her husband, Jim of Tucson, Arizona.

Dorothy L.
Larson
May 23, 2001
Dorothy L. Larson, age 90, of St.
Ansgar, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the Mitchell County
Regional Health Center, Osage.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 19, at the Deer
Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter. Rev. Kathy Larson officiated. Burial was in the Deer Creek
Lutheran Cemetery, Carpenter.
Dorothy was born on January 1, 1911, to Earnest and Thea (Hermanson)
Collins in Deer Creek Township, Worth County, Iowa. She was
baptized in March of 1911 at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church by Rev.
M.E. Waldeland. When she was six months old, they moved to a
homestead near Devon, Montana. They lived there seven years before moving back
to Northwood, Iowa for one year, then moving to a farm on the
state line north of Meltonville.
She
attended school in Otranto and graduated from Otranto High School
there with honors in 1929. Her classmates remained very dear to
her. She was confirmed in 1926, by the Rev. O.M. Langehough in the
Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota. She married Leonard R. Larson on February
5, 1930, in her parents' home performed by Rev. A.C. Korsrud, pastor
of London, Minnesota church.
They farmed on the A.Z. VanCamp farm for eight years, then moved
to Carpenter. She was active in her husband’s Phillips 66 Oil
business and custom truck box building. She was city clerk of
Carpenter for 34 years and active in other community
organizations. In 1982 and again in 1995, she received Merit
awards from the Community Club for her dedicated contributions.
She
was a charter member of the Friendship Club and a faithful member of
the
Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leonard; her
only sister, Amy Kruse; one granddaughte,r Marsha Larson; and one
grandson, Daniel Davis.
Those that survive her include her son, Roger and his wife, Beverly
of Swaledale; daughter, Carolyn and husband, Dennis Davis of
Kensett; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces,
nephews and cousins.

Donald Daryl
“Wig” Kubicek
May 23, 2001
Donald Daryl “Wig” Kubicek, age 75, died on Wednesday, May
16, 2001, at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 19, at the Our
Savior’s Lutheran Church, Osage.
Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiated. Interment was in
the Osage Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted at the grave by
the
Osage American Legion Post 278 and the Osage VFW Post 7920. The
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Donald was born on a farm near
McIntyre, on November 5, 1925, the fifth
child of John J. and Mary (Bolger) Kubicek. He attended school at
Osage and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1944. He served
aboard the U.S.S. Boston, a light cruiser in the Pacific and was
honorably discharged in February of 1946.
On
August 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Marvel Jane Rowe at
the
Osage Lutheran Church, by the Rev. T.P. Solem. To this union were
born two children, Dennis Daryl and Kathy Jane. Donald and his
wife resided in Osage their entire married life and “Wig” was
employed by Carl Hartwig on his dairy farm, Seeber Sand and
Gravel, Kark Rendering Company and Decklever Sand and Gravel. In
1960 he was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation
until his retirement in November of 1987.
He
was a member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage, long-time
member of the Osage American Legion Post 278, life member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7920 and a member of the Charles
City Moose Lodge. “Wig” enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting until
his health deteriorated. He had Parkinson’s Disease for 17 years.
“Wig” is survived by his wife, Marvel of Osage; a son, Dennis Kubicek and wife, Theresa of Glendale, Arizona; two grandchildren, Kelly
John Kubicek of Glendale, Arizona and Amy Jane Kubicek of Phoenix, Arizona;
one great-grandson, Vincent Thomas Jr. of Phoenix, Aarizona; one brother,
Dale (Pete) Kubicek and his wife, Dona of Osage; two sisters, Olive
Ellis of Charles City and Bonnie Reich of Mason City; two
brothers-in-law, Lester Rowe and his wife, Dallas of Osage and Alan
Rowe and his wife, Phyllis of Port Orchard, Washington; and two
sisters-in-law, Kathleen Rowe of Cedar Rapids and Ruth Kubicek
of Osage.
“Wig” was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy in
1975; one sister, Helen in 1918; and two brothers, Charles (Sonny) Kubicek in 1960 and Roger (Nick) Kubicek in 1998.

Esther Rosenberg

Esther Ruth
Rosenberg, age 97, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday, May 20, 2001.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, at 10:30
a.m., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Rev. Edward Schmidt
will officiate
and burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5-8:00 p.m., at the Schroeder
and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Esther Ruth (Priem) Rosenberg, was born on September 12, 1903, on
the family farm near Newburg Township, west of St. Ansgar, Iowa. She
was the daughter of Ferdinand and Louise (Gerlach) Priem. Esther
and her twin sister, Edna, were the youngest of eleven children,
seven of whom lived to adulthood. Esther’s father died when she
was six years old, and the children helped their mother continue
farming. Esther received her early education in the Newburg School
and graduated from the Carpenter High School in 1922. She enjoyed
playing basketball during her high school days.
She
married Lawrence Rosenberg on October 23, 1927, at the St. John’s
Lutheran Church, Rock Township. They made their home in St. Ansgar,
where Lawrence drove the Co-op Oil tank wagon for many years.
Esther worked in the local variety store for several years.
Together they enjoyed gardening. Lawrence and Esther were
privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Lawrence
passed away on April 20, 1978.
Esther was a devoted mother, gardener, grandmother and
great-grandmother. She was also a faithful member of the Immanuel
Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her
parents; six brothers and four sisters. Her twin sister, Edna
Brandt, died on May 8, 2001.
Those that survive her include her two daughters, Shirley Jean and
her husband, Jerrold Eide of Mason City and their children, Marcia
(Randy) Hinrichs of Lisbon, Iowa, Larry (Barb) Eide of Mason City
and Carol (Stan) Horsfall of Mason City; and Gloria and her
husband, Newlin Jensen of St. Ansgar and their children, Sue (Mike)
Urbatsch of Manly, Greg (Donna) Jensen of Woodbury, Minnesota and Steve
(Marla) Jensen of Seattle, Washington; 11 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews, friends and her
Christian congregation.

Homer Fiscel
May 29, 2001
Homer Fiscel, age 83,
of Friendship Haven, died on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at the Tompkins
Memorial Health Center, Fort Dodge, from a stroke.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, May 26, at the Chapel On the Hill
with Rev. Ron Kitterman officiating. Burial was in the Brethren
Cemetery, Panora, Iowa. The Gunderson Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
Homer was born on May 19,
1918 in Yale, Iowa. He attended school in Yale and later Perry,
where he graduated from the Perry High School. On June 30, 1940, he
married Lois K. Taylor at Perry. After their marriage, they made
their home in Perry. Homer served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to
1946. After the service he returned to Perry and they lived there until
1955, when they moved to Osage.
He owned and operated a bulk tank
delivery company for the Sinclair Oil Company. In 1962 they moved to
Santa Maria, California and in 1969 to Fort Dodge, where he also ran a bulk
tank delivery service. He later worked at the Shimkat Motor Co. as an
auto salesman until his retirement. In December of 1993, they moved to
Friendship Haven. His wife died on May 15, 1994 and after her death
he continued to live at Friendship Haven.
He was a member of
the First Baptist Church in Fort Dodge, the church choir, Fort
Dodge Lions Club, American Legion and he sang in several area Barber
Shop Quartets. They volunteered at orphanages in both Mexico and
the
Lawndale Community Church in Chicago. He was a member of R.S.V.P.
Preceding him in
death were his wife, Lois; his parents, Guy and Faye (Smith) Fiscel; an infant daughter, Mary Jo; and a brother, Galen Fiscel.
Those that survive
him include his daughter and her husband, Jackie and Keith Johnson
of Fort Dodge; a son and his wife, Larry and Tina Fiscel of Arroyo
Grande, California; five grandchildren, Tori, Trent, Derrick, Michelle and
Sean; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Rylee; and one nephew,
Wayne Fiscel of Des Moines.

Lyle Schultz
May 29, 2001
Lyle Schultz, age 88, of Riceville, died on Thursday, May
24, 2001, at the Riceville Community Rest Home, Riceville.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 29, at the St.
Peter’s Lutheran Church, Riceville. Rev. Michael
Parris officiated and graveside committal services were held at 2:30
p.m., at North Prairie Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. The Lindstrom
Funeral Home, Riceville, was in charge of the arrangements.
Lyle was born on August 18, 1912 in Marble Rock, Iowa, the son of
George and Bessie Wagner Schultz. He was united in marriage to
Leona Groth on June 30, 1938, at the Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, rural
Elma, Iowa. He was engaged in farming most of his life and was a
mechanic for International Harvester. He married Myrtle Brackey on
March 12, 1960, at the North Prairie Church in Lake Mills.
Preceding him in
death were his parents; his first wife, Leona Schreiber on December
23, 2000 and his wife, Myrtle T. Schultz on February 12, 1994; and one
sister, Audrey Baldwin.
Those that survive
him include one daughter, Betty Borchardt and her husband, Del of
Riceville; one son, Leland Shultz and his wife, Sandra of Panama
City, Florida; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two
step-daughters, Alice Wehner of Albert Lea, Minnesota and Helen Allison
and her husband, Kent of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and two step-sons, Duane Brackey and his wife, Arlys of Lake Mills and Parnell Brackey and
his wife, Marjorie of Emmons, Minnesota; 8 step-grandchildren; 21
step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Maurine Moore
May 29, 2001
Maurine Moore, age 87, of St. Ansgar, died on Saturday, May
26, 2001, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 29, at the United
Methodist Church in St. Ansgar. Rev. Ted Stowers officiated. Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Maurine was born on March
14, 1914 in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter
of Marion and Cecelia (Hansen) Jensen. She attended school in
Otranto and graduated from the Carpenter High School in 1932. She
attended college in Cedar Falls and graduated with a B.A. Degree
in Education from Wartburg College. Maurine taught elementary
school for 45 years mostly in Otranto, later in St. Ansgar.
She enjoyed
participating in various community and church activities, some of
which were Alpha Delta Kappa, Retired Teachers Association, St.
Ansgar Women's Club and her church circle. Hand piecing quilts was
her hobby and passion during retirement.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; and brothers, Orlo, Merle and Harold
Jensen.
She is survived by
her daughters, Marilyn and Jack Edgington, Sheri and Bob McNutt
and Judy and David Goplerud all of St. Ansgar; seven
grandchildren, Chris and wife, Vanessa, Alex and Elizabeth
Edgington, Tom and wife, Melissa, Larissa, Bridgette, Samantha and Abagail Edgington, Anne and husband, Jim and Stephanie and Matthew
McMillian, Greg and wife, Kaye, Kaitlyn and Hannah Goplerud, Kari
and husband, Russ, Jordan and Gayle Nelson, Matt and wife,
Jennifer and Megan McNutt, Heidi and husband, Jeff Kaisand;
brothers, Art and Evelyn and Clarence and Wylma Jensen; and
sisters, Edna Beuerman and Helene Johnson; sisters-in-law, Della
Jensen and Ruth Jensen; and many nieces and nephews.

Lloyd E. Johnson
June 5, 2001
Lloyd E. Johnson, age 76, of
Sheboygan, Wisconsin, died on Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Osage
Rehabilitation and Health Center, Osage.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 31. Rev. James Sheldon officiated and interment was in
the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Lloyd was born on February 28,
1925 in Rockford, Illinois, to Oscar and Esther Bourman Johnson. He
attended the Rockford, Illinois area schools. On January 13, 1951, he was united
in marriage to Marion Engelhardt in Sheboygan. The couple was
married for 32 years before Marion preceded him in death on May 17,
1983.
Lloyd was the former
owner of the City Taxi Co. He was also the owner of the former Johnson
General Hauling. Lloyd was an avid fisherman.
Preceding him in
death was his parents; his wife; his sister, Arlene Benson; two
brothers, Warner and Laverne W. Johnson; and a niece and a nephew.
Those that survive
him include two children, Robert (Nina Faye) Johnson of Osage and
Debra (Roger) Bean of Sheboygan; six grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Melvin) Anderson of Ovido,
Florida and Betty (Roger) Stolequist of Rockford, Illinois; thirteen nieces and
nephews; and a special friend, Gloria Stolper of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Paul Johanns
June 5, 2001
Paul William Johanns, age 86, of Osage, died on Monday, May
28, 2001, at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester,
Minnesota.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 1, at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Rev. Philip Recker
officiated and interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
The Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Paul was born on June 5,
1914 in New Haven, Iowa. He was the last surviving child of John and
Angeline (Miller) Johanns. Paul was married to Elizabeth Adams on
February 8, 1938, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer. Paul farmed
in the New Haven area and retired to Osage. He loved to fish and do
woodworking.
Paul was preceded in
death by his parents; two sisters; five brothers; a son, Leonard;
and a granddaughter, Lori.
His wife, Elizabeth of
Osage survives him. They had twelve children, Angeline Nolda of
Lamont, Iowa, Leonard Johanns (now deceased) and his wife, Bonnie of
Charles City, Robert Johanns and wife, Donna of Strawberry Point,
Larry Johanns of St. Paul, Minnesota, Therese Tinkey and her husband, La
Vern of Lamont, Leo Johanns and wife, Cathy of Cedar Rapids, Mary
Adams and her husband, Harold Ritscher of Keystone, Iowa, David Johanns of Osage, Rita Hanke and her husband, Robert of Little
Cedar, Paul Johanns, Jr. and his wife, Erin of Marion, Joe Johanns
and wife, Jodi of Austin, Minnesota and Rose Decklever and her husband, Mike
of Rochester, Minnesota; also 35 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandson.

Alex Schwab
June 5, 2001
Alex Schwab, age 93, of Osage, died on Thursday, May 31,
2001, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center at
Osage.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 4, at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, Osage. Father Philip Recker
officiated and interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage.
The

Alex was born on December 10,
1907, in Seewald, Russia, the son of Peter and Anna (Frank) Schwab. As
an infant, he moved with his family from Russia to the United States
and they located in Osage. He was united in marriage to Ann Kloberdanz on February 1, 1932, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in Osage. Alex worked at the Gardners Nursery and as an auto mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army
during World War II.
Preceding him in
death were his parents; one sister; and three brothers.
Those that survive
him include his wife, Ann Schwab of Osage; three sons, Paul Schwab
of Osage, Phil Schwab of Osage and children, Mike Schwab and wife,
Katie and their children, Jacob, Morgan and Andrew; Mark Schwab;
Julie Schwab and her fiancée Jay Marley and children, McKenzy and
Avery; Doug Schwab; Ron Schwab and his wife, Elaine of Osage and
their daughters, Kristy Miller and her husband, Kenn; Jessica
Schwab; two sisters, Rose Morrison and her husband, Don of Osage;
Katie Randall and her husband, Ramson of Cedar Rapids; and three
brothers, John Schwab, Jake Schwab and Adolph Schwab, all of Osage.
