Elaine Ruth Pike
August 14, 2001
Elaine Ruth Pike, age 79, died on Saturday, August 11, 2001,
at the home of her daughter in Brownsdale,
Minnesota.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 14, at the
First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Rev. Robert Porisch officiated
and burial was in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
The Schroeder-Sites Funeral
Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge of the arrangements.
Elaine Ruth Wilde, was
born on July 9, 1922. to Walter and Helena (Diedrich) Wilde, on the
family farm in Mitchell County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed
at the St. John’s Church, Rock Township. She was married on October 7, 1945,
to Lawrence Leonard Pike at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rock
Township. Three children were born to this union, Linda Faye, Helen
Marie and Wayne Erwin.
Elaine was a member of
the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.
Elaine was a housewife
and mother working only from her home doing daycare and sewing. She
was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother always thinking of
others and treating people equally. Family was important to her as well
as her friends.
Elaine was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Lois Beyer; and two
brothers, LaVerne and Roland.
Those that survive her
include one son, Wayne and wife, Rhonda of Sparta, Wisconsin; two
daughters, Linda Unverzagt and her husband, Edward of Brownsdale,
Minnesota and Helen Pike of Austin, Minnesota; five grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Sylvester J.
Pitzen
August 14, 2001
Sylvester J. Pitzen, age
90, of Stacyville, died on Saturday, August 11, 2001, at the Stacyville
Nursing Home, Stacyville.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August
14, at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville. Rev. Joseph
Schneider officiated. Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery,
Stacyville. The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge
of the arrangements.
Sylvester J. Pitzen, was
born on September 29, 1910 in Adams, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Anna (Simon) Pitzen. He married Dorothy Coan on June 27, 1933, at
the Holy Family
Catholic Church, Mason City.
In his younger years he enjoyed
hunting, trapping, fishing and taxidermy. Sylvester worked for the
Stacyville Co-op Company for 48 years, 43 of those years as elevator
manager. He was an active 4-H Leader and member of the Foresters and
the K. of C. Sylvester was on the board of directors for FELCO,
FELCO-STATEC and also Land O’Lakes.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; wife, Dorothy; a son John; and brothers, Gervin,
Clem and Al.
Sylvester is survived by
his three sons, Tom Pitzen of Stacvyile, Nick Pitzen of Stacyville
and
Steve Pitzen of Adams, Minnesota; one daughter, Mary Ellen McGlashing of
Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother,
Father John Pitzen of Fairfax; and two sisters, Agnes Casley of
Beaverton, Oregon and Marie Montavon of DeKalb, Illinois.

Gerald Franklin
Foughty
August 14, 2001
Gerald Franklin Foughty, age 86, of Osage, died on
Saturday, August 11, 2001.
Funeral services were held at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, on Tuesday, August 14, with Rev.
Herschel Hawf officiating. Burial was in the Hampton Cemetery with
military rites.
Gerald was born on June
4, 1915 in Hampton, Iowa, to Franklin Devello and Pearl Gertrude
Blain Foughty. He attended local schools. Gerald served his country
in the United States Navy during World War II. “Chub” was united in
marriage to Nancy Polen in November of 1934. He worked as a salesman
for Wynn’s Oil.
After moving to California, Gerald worked at
Lockheed for many years. In February of 1963, he was united in marriage
to Eva Marie Held in Winter Haven, California. After Eva’s passing,
Gerald was united in marriage to Augusta Fay Hicks.
Preceding him in death
were his parents; his wife, Eva Marie; one daughter, Joyce Jenkins
in 1995; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Patrick; and two
brothers.

Marie M. Kobernusz
August 14, 2001
Marie M. Kobernusz, age 85, of Osage, died on Monday,
August 13, 2001, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason
City.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 16, at 10:30 a.m.,
at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage. Rev. Philip Recker will officiate and interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 3-8:00 p.m., with a 3:30 p.m. Rosary
and a 7:00 p.m. Scripture Service at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage.
Marie was born on July 16,
1916 in Osage, the daughter of Charles and Christina (Braun) Mandler.
She attended Osage Schools. Marie was united in marriage to Loyal
“Shadow” Kobernusz on August 13, 1936 in Manly. They lived in Osage
most of their married life. Shadow died on December 16, 1990. Marie passed
away on what would have been their 64th wedding anniversary. She was
a member of the Osage American Legion Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death
were her parents; her husband, Loyal “Shadow” in 1990; one brother,
Frank Mandler; two sisters, Rose Spurgeon and Estelle Neuerburg; and
a great-grandchild.
Those that survive her
include her three daughters, Carol Smalley and husband, Terry of
Osage and their three sons, Dennis and wife, Shari, Michael and
Randy; Maxine Bollman and husband, Robert of Osage and their two
sons, Cass and wife, Josie, Trent and wife, Missy; Connie Roth and
husband, Steven of Osage and their two children, Stacy and her
husband, Kevin and Ian; nine great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Bonnie
Marie, Leah, Bonnie Lynn, William and Jessah Smalley, Jacob Bollman,
Jenna Marie and Jayden Hanson; two sisters, Leona Rogers of Osage
and Lucille Hultman and her husband, Lawrence of Osage; one
brother-in-law, Norbert Neuerburg of Osage; and nieces and nephews.
