Barbara (Torgerson) Meier, 69, of Northwood, died on Thursday, January
3, 2002, of natural causes, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit
in Mason City.
She had been in declining health for a number of years.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, January 8, at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral
Home, Northwood, with Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Private inurnment
was in the South Shell Rock Cemetery, Northwood.
Barbara was born on February 7, 1932, on a farm east of Northwood, to Alfred
and Viola (Helgeland) Torgerson. She was educated in Worth County
starting with country school at Brookfield #1 and Brookfield #3,
entering the Northwood School System in 1940 and graduating from the
Northwood High School in 1950.
She worked briefly in the Anchor office, the Northwood Theater and
for several years as a switchboard operator in the local telephone
office.
She married Ken Meier at Manly in a wedding ceremony officiated by
her paternal grandfather, the late Rev. A. J. Torgerson. Later the
couple relocated to the Chicago area as Ken pursued a career in the
trucking industry. Upon his retirement in 1993, they returned to
Northwood.
Barbara's special interests included cats, extensive reading, indoor
flowers and bird watching.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; son, Kyle; sister,
Margaret; and her parents.
Survivors include her son, Kal and his wife, Pam of LaPorte, Texas; and a
brother, Don Torgerson of Yorba Linda, California.
The
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, was in charge of
the arrangements.

Clarice "Ki" Huso, 89, of Riceville, died
on Thursday, January 3, 2002,
at the Riceville Community Rest Home.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 5, at
the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in
Riceville, with Rev. Michael Parris officiating. Burial was in the
Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.
Clarice was born on January 27, 1912 at Carpenter, Iowa,
the daughter of Antone
and Sinan Lund Lomen. She was a graduate of the Northwood High School in
1930. She attended the Mounds/Midway School of Nursing in St. Paul,
Minnesota and graduated as an RN in 1933, with post-graduate courses in
anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota. She worked as a
nurse/anesthesiologist in the St. Paul, Minnesota and Eau Claire, Wisconsin areas,
until her marriage to Bill Huso on December 28, 1944 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Clarice was the administrator and head RN at the Lutheran Retirement
Home in Northwood from 1962 until 1964. Ki and Bill moved to
Riceville in 1964 where they owned and operated A and H Motors.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Huso of Sylmar, California and
Margaret Jordan of McIntire, Iowa; one son, Richard Huso of Dodge
Center, Minnesota; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill in 1995; one brother, Kenneth Lomen; and one sister, Ruth Talle.

Orville "Bud" Thomas, 81, died on Thursday, January 3, 2002, at the Bethesda
Nursing Home in Beresford, South Dakota.
Funeral services were held on Monday, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford,
with Rev. Robert Hansen officiating. Interment was in the Beresford
Cemetery.
Orville was born on February 28, 1920 near Carpenter, Iowa, to parents Fay
and Gertrude (Eckert) Thomas. He attended elementary schools in
Worth County, Iowa. He attended the Carpenter High School and graduated
from the Windom High School in Minnesota. He then farmed with his father
near Windom. Bud married Thelma Brugman on September 21, 1947.
The
couple farmed in Jackson and Cottonwood Counties for several years.
They stopped farming in 1962 and moved to Luverne, Minnesota, where they
lived until 1965 when they moved to Beresford. The couple then moved
to Park Rapids, Minnesota in 1972, where Bud worked in the fertilizer
business until 1982, when they retired and moved back to Beresford.
Thelma passed away in 1994 and Bud became a resident at the Bethesda
Home in January of 2000 and had resided there until the present
time.
Bud was currently a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in
Beresford. He was a member of the Beresford Senior Citizens and was
active in the Farmers Union. Among Bud's hobbies were working with
small engines and mowing lawns.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma; and two
brothers, Leland and Clayton.
Survivors include his son, Duane of Beresford; daughter, Linda
Farley and her husband, Tom of Beresford; four grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; sister, Valetta Anderson of Northwood, Iowa;
sister-in-law, Lois Thomas of Fargo, North Dakota; and many other relatives
and friends.

Cecil was born on September 2, 1922 in Mingo, Kansas, to Tom and Anna (Reel)
Stacey. He lived in the Mingo and Jennings areas, then moved to Selden
in 1931. He also lived in Colorado and Iowa. He served in the U.S.
Army during World War II in the European Theater. He married Dorothy Spannigal in 1941 and then Marietta Wilcox on April 20, 1947 in
Omaha, Nebraska. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 30 years. After
retiring he moved back to Selden, Kansas in 1981.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, animals and antiques.
Survivors include his wife, Marietta Stacey of Selden, Kansas; sons, Terry
Stacey of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jerry and Linda Stacey of Hutchinson, Minnesota and
Thomas and Dorothy Stacey of Selden, Kansas; daughters, Dorothy and Jim Lourance
of Lakeview, Oregon, Loraine and Steven Kalvig of Grafton and
Barbara and Mitchell Thofson of
Kingman, Arizona; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank and Gene
Young and Joe Beal; and sisters, Ada Tate, Mae Maske and Josie Shuler.

Roy Leonard Hanson, 93, St. Ansgar, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 5,
2002, at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday,
January 9, at the Deer Creek
Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with Rev. Kathy Larson officiating.
Interment will take place in the First Lutheran Cemetery, St.
Ansgar. The
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, is in charge of
the arrangements.
Roy was born on November 17, 1908 in Worth County, Iowa, rural Carpenter,
to Hans Peter and Lena Severson Hanson. He was baptized on December 26,
1908, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with Rev. M. E. Waldeland officiating. He was confirmed
on March 16, 1923, by Rev. M. E. Waldeland. He graduated from the Carpenter High School in 1925 and
was the last living member of this class.
He never married and lived his life on the farm where he was born
and raised. He began renting his cropland out in 1978 while
continuing to raise Herefords. Roy took pride in raising top quality
Hereford cattle. A pair of his calves were featured on the June 1979
front cover of the American Hereford Journal. Roy also served on the
Board of Directors and then as President of the Worth County Co-op
Oil from 1954 to 1975.
Roy entered the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center in November 1999.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1912; mother
in 1955;
brothers, Mervin in 1929 and Alfred in 1969; and sister, Gilma
Hendrickson in 2000.
Survivors include his nieces and nephews and their families, Ivadene
Dale of San Jose, California, Horace Hendrickson and his wife, Ann of
Northwood, Marcella Olson and her husband, Ron of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Ardis Sorenson and her husband, Carroll of Thornton, Colorado, Duane Hanson
and his wife, Sharon of Thompson, North Dakota, Merle Hanson and his wife,
Jeanette of Northwood, Sharyl Engelhardt and her husband, Jon of
Adel, Iowa, Ivanell Howard and her husband, Earle of Grandby, Colorado and
Audrey McIntosh and her husband, Richard of Jefferson City, Missouri.

Julia
Harriet Stumo, 92, of Northwood, died on Saturday, January 5, 2002, at the
Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, January 10, at the
Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with
Rev. Selmer G. (Sam) Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Elk
Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service time on Thursday at
the church.
The family of Julia Harriet Stumo has requested that memorial
contributions be made in her memory. The
Conner Colonial Chapel of Northwood, was in charge of the
arrangements.
Julia Harriet Stumo, was born on February 3, 1909 in Montpelier, North Dakota, the
daughter of Bendick and Hilda (Erickson) Holstad. She was baptized
in the Montpelier, North Dakota Lutheran Church and reaffirmed the faith of
her baptism through confirmation at the North Shell Rock Lutheran
Church, rural Northwood. She attended and received her education in
the rural schools in North Dakota and Iowa including the Somber
Lutheran School in Worth County, graduating from the Northwood High
School in 1928. After completing her schooling she worked as a
childcare provider in Worth County, and also worked at the Quality
Café in Northwood.
She was married to Gerhard Joseph Stumo on March 27, 1932, at the North
Shell Rock Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, by the Rev. J. W.
Ylvisoker. After their marriage together they farmed in the Hayward,
Minnesota area, east of Albert Lea, before moving to the Worth County area,
where they continued to farm until their retirement in 1969. They
moved to the Viking Manor in Northwood in 1994. Julia moved to the
Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood in 2000.
She enjoyed making afghans, sewing, ladies aid, and circles, the
church choir, and music, but her great love and enjoyment was her
family and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church and the church
circles.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gene Stumo and his wife, Ilyce of Northwood, David Stumo and his wife, Clarice of Paynesvill,
Minnesota, Charles Stumo and his wife, Mary of Northwood and Helen Olness
and her husband, Roger of Benson, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; six sisters, Lillian Thompson of the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood and her husband, Jewell Thompson of
Albert Lea, Minnesota, Evelyn Gordon of St. Ansgar, Luella Leidal and her
husband, Curtis of Northwood, Burnette Sanderson and her husband, Leon
of Glenville, Minnesota, Mildred Patterson of St. Ansgar and Idena Hagen
and her husband, Stan of Plymouth, Minnesota; brother, Aldon Holstad and
his wife, Katheryn of Glenville, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Dorothy Holstad
of Austin, Minnesota; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerhard Joseph Stumo on December 7, 1994; grandson, Nels Stumo; two brothers, Marvin and Irving Holstad; and
a sister, Gilma Holstad.

Julia I. Hanson, 87, of Mason City, died on Sunday, January 6, 2002, at
the
Muse Norris Hospice, Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City,
with Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Rest
Cemetery, Northwood.
Julia I. Hanson, was born on April 3, 1914 at Albert Lea, Minnesota, a daughter
of William and Mary (Huber) Sippel. She was a graduate of the Albert Lea
High School. She married Elmer O. Hanson on October 15, 1938.
Mrs. Hanson resided at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City, for the
past two years, where she received excellent care.
Julia's husband operated a Mobil service station in Mason City. They
farmed for several years in the Lake Mills and Northwood areas and
near Dexter, Minnesota. Moving to Rudd, Iowa in 1963, they purchased a
grocery store, which they operated as Hanson's Superette, until
retirement in 1973. After her husband's death in 1978, Julia moved
to Mason City.
Julia will especially be remembered for her jelly rolls and sugar
cookies.
She is survived by one son, Everett Hanson and his wife, Kathy
of Hugo,
Minnesota; two daughters, Judy Hoy and her husband, Jerry of Nashua
and Jane Balkenende and her husband, Jack of Mason City; 12 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Kirby of Woodbury, Minnesota
and Irene Enstad of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Marge Sippel
of Albert Lea,
Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1978; son,
Jerry in 1978; two brothers, Bob and Albert Sippel; and one sister,
Laura Knudsen.

Fredrick
Earl Varner, 50, of Northwood, died on Sunday, January 6, 2002, at his
home of heart failure.
A
graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 9,
at the Kensett Cemetery, with the Rev. Sam Hernes of the Bethany
Lutheran Church, Kensett officiating. Visitation will be held from
noon until 1:45 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Bride Colonial Chapel in Manly.

Colonial Chapel of Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.
Fred was born on March 18, 1951 in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Levi
"Pat" and Jean (Broege) Varner. He married Debbie Prince on November 23,
1974 in Saugus, California. They moved to Kensett to raise their family,
where they owned and operated the Lion's Den Bar. Fred loved to
spend time with his friends and family at the cabin in Waterville.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing pool. Fred especially loved
spending time with his grandkids.
Fred is survived by his wife, Debbie of Northwood; daughter,
Jami of Mason City; three sons, Fred and his wife, Sue of Kensett
and Danny and Matt of Northwood; three grandchildren, Devin, Trevor
and Gavin; mother, Jean Varner of Manly; one brother, Lee Varner
of Kensett; one sister, Debbie Orth and her husband, Paul of
Kensett; three nieces; and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, who also died of a heart
attack at age 50.

Allan L. "Mert" Foss, 61,
died on Sunday, January 6, 2002, after a valiant struggle with cancer.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, at the
Cremation Society of Minnesota-Edina Chapel.
Memorial services were also held on Wednesday, at the Faith Lutheran Church,
London, Minnesota, with interment in the London-Deer Creek Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Crystal (Gilbertson); sons,
Jeff (Tracie), Dan (Kelly), Joe (Tami) and David (Peggy);
father-in-law, Warren; 10 grandchildren; brothers, John (Thelma),
Larry (Mary), Paul (Genie) and Mike; and many nieces, nephews and others
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlon and Ione; brother,
Bernie; sister and brother-in-law, Joanne (Roger) Thompson; and
mother-in-law, Lilly Gilbertson.

Martha H. Iverson, 89, of Northwood, died
on Tuesday, January 8, 2002, in Cokato, Minnesota, following a stroke suffered on
Christmas Day.
Funeral services
were held on
Saturday, at the First Lutheran Church, Dows, Iowa, with Rev. Paul Thompson
officiating.
Burial was in the Dows Cemetery.
Martha Helene Iverson, was born on January 28, 1912, to Jacob and Clara (Hage)
Knutsen in Macroon, North Dakota. At the age of two weeks Martha moved with
her family to Scarville, Iowa, where she was baptized and confirmed
into the Lutheran faith. She later moved to Hanlontown, where she
graduated from high school in 1929. After attending Waldorf College
in Forest City and the State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls,
Martha taught school in Hanlontown and Fredericksburg, Iowa.
On June 26, 1938, she married to Clair Iverson. They made their home in
Lake View for 16 years, Milford for 12 years and in Dows for 30
years. They wintered in Arizona for each of the 19 years following
Clair's retirement. Martha moved into the Maple Court Apartments in
Northwood in 1997.
Martha was blessed with four sons, nine grandchildren, and eight
great-grandchildren, Jon, Karen, Valerie and Kevin of Medford, Oregon;
Paul and Mary of Annandale, Minnesota; Roger, Lynn, Carla, and Denny of
Bellingham, Washington; David, Carol, and Scott of Independence, Iowa; Jason
and Michelle Knick (Traci, Grant, Austin, and Noah) of Becker, Minnesota;
Eric and Jenny Iverson (Tanner, Alexis, and Chloe) of Dassel, Minnesota;
Marc and Sarah Iverson (Emily) of Bird Island, Minnesota; and Dustin and
Amy Avery of Waterloo, Iowa.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clair; brother,
James; and sister, Hazel.

Richard
H. Dahlby, 60, died on Thursday, January 10, 2002, at a Scottsdale, Arizona
Hospital.
A
memorial service was held in Scottsdale, on Monday, January 14. A
memorial service will also be held on Saturday, January 19, at 2:30 p.m., at
the Lake
Mills Synod Lutheran Church, with Rev. Alf Merseth officiating.
Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the services at the Lake
Mills Church. The body was cremated, with interment
in the Somber Lutheran Cemetery, rural Northwood.
Richard Harlan Dahlby, was born on July 23, 1941, to Daniel and
Eleanor (Hanson) Dahlby in Lake Mills, Iowa. He was baptized and
confirmed at the Somber Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at
the
Bristol #5 Country School and graduated from the Joice High School in
1959.
He married Donna Small on December 28, 1968 and was later divorced. He
farmed in the Lake Mills area until moving to Arizona in 1984. At
the time of his death he was a realtor with the Prudential Real Estate
Affiliates of Scottsdale.
Richard is survived by his sister, Marian Iverson (Orion) of
Scarville; brothers, Donovan (Gail) of Northwood, Roger (Jan) of
Northwood and Charles (Diane) of Galena, Illinois; former wife, Donna Dahlby of Columbus, Montana; former sister-in-law, Eileen Dahlby of
Northwood; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Eleanor Dahlby
in 2000; and a brother, Allan in infancy.

Alice
Regina Trustem, 91, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Friday, January 11, 2002, at
the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 14, at
the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills,
with Rev. Kevin Mackey and Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial
was in the Bristol Cemetery in rural Joice.
Alice Regina Trustem, was born on the Hanson family farm in rural
Northwood, Iowa on March 12, 1910, daughter of Amund "Amos" and Mary (Orpen)
Hanson. She was delivered into this world by her mother and father
as there was no mid-wife or attendant. She was the second of six
children. Her heritage is that of being descended from Norwegian
Pioneers who arrived and settled in Worth County in the early
1850's.
Her mother, Mary died in the 1918 world wide flu epidemic when
Alice was only eight years old. She then lived with her Grandma Orpen and various other aunts and uncles. She returned home in her
teens to help care for her father and two of her brothers, Hank and
Reuben. During this time she also worked as a house keeper for
various families.
Alice was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at
the Bristol
Lutheran Church in rural Joice. She received her instruction for
confirmation in Norwegian. Alice remained a lifelong member and
supported Bristol until its closing in the 1980's. She then joined
Salem Lutheran, where she remained until the time of her death.
Her formal education was received at the Brookfield #3 Township School.
She attended through the 8th grade and then briefly attended the
Northwood High School.
She married Edward K. Trustem on October 4, 1934, at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua, Iowa. Her husband, Ed was an immigrant from Gol,
Hallingdahl, Norway, who served in the Royal Norwegian Army with
Crown Prince (later King) Olaf of Norway.
They were blessed with two children, Kermit Arlen and Rose Ann
Marie. Together, they farmed on various locations in the Northwood
area until purchasing the family farm from her father in 1947. Ed a
carpenter by trade, built a new house and they remained farming
there until 1969, when it was sold to her relative and his wife,
Ernest and Erma Hanson. They built a new house in Northwood and
lived there from 1969-1976. Following 16 years of employment with
Deluxe (now Fleetguard), Alice retired and they built a new house in
Lake Mills and moved there to be nearer to their daughter and
grandchildren.
Alice enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, flowers (especially yellow
roses), embroidering, making jams and jellies, reading, traveling
and watching comedies on TV. She was near to completely reading her
Bible.
In March 2001, Alice was honored when she was crowned Queen of "A
Night In Old Ireland...a medieval feast" play and dinner in LeRoy,
Minnesota. She was the last Queen crowned in their last performance. She
was deeply touched and honored.
She is survived by her son, Kermit Trustem; daughter, Rose Ann
and her husband, Dennis Hill all of Lake Mills; five
grandchildren, Jerry Hill of Lake Mills, Jeffrey and his wife,
Kim Hill of Austin, Texas, Audra and her husband, Chris Stambaugh of
Rollingstone, Minnesota, Jennifer Trustem and Laura Trustem both of
McKinleyville, California; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor Gensrich of Hatton, North Dakota; one sister-in-law, Edna Hanson of
Northwood; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives in the
United States Canada and Norway.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward;
three brothers, Henry Hanson, Reuben Hanson and Milton Aarback; one
sister, Lillian Stumo; and one grandson, Erik Russell Trustem.

Jarrett Wayne Roberts, 23, of Joice, died on Friday January 18, 2002, in
Joice.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 22, at
the Fullerton Family of Funeral Homes,
Mason City. Officiating was Rev. Steve Smith of the Silver Lake Lutheran
Church.
Jarrett was born on May 31, 1978 at Forest City, Iowa, the son of
Jerry and Bridget "Gossman" Roberts. He attended the Lake Mills High
School where he received several medals for wrestling. He then lived
in the Lake Mills area most of his life. He worked for Universal
Circuits Inc. and then for Fleetguard. He was currently employed at
the
Top of Iowa Co-op in the grain division at Joice. He was on the
bowling league for Fleetguard, where he received an award for being
the best-improved bowler.
He spent his spare time socializing with his
numerous friends in the North Iowa and Southern Minnesota area. He
also bow hunted deer, hunted pheasants and fished at area lakes and
streams. Jarrett honed his skills by target and trap shooting and
playing golf.
Those thankful in sharing Jarrett's life include his mother, Bridget Neilon
of Northwood; father, Jerry Roberts of Lake Mills; step-father,
Alan Neilon of Albert Lea; Jarrett's special friend, JoAnna Pehrson;
two brothers, Michael I. Larson of Fort Worth, Texas and Wade Roberts
of Cedar
Falls and his special friend, Jennifer Heyer; maternal grandparents,
Lila Gossman of Buffalo Center and Duane Gossman of Thompson; paternal
grandparents, Wayne and Emma Jane Roberts of Lake Mills;
paternal great-grandparent, Ethel Browning of Ogallala, Nebraska; and several
cousins, aunt, uncles and friends.

Geneva
M. Hendrikson, 69, of Mason City, died on Friday, January 18, 2002, at
the Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 22, at
the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason
City, with the Rev. James M. Magelssen officiating. Interment will
be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.
Geneva was born on October 2, 1932 in Winnebago County, the daughter of
Alfred G. and Ida (Bartleson) Brones. She graduated from the Northwood
High School in 1950 and Waldorf College, where she received her
teachers certificate, in 1952.
Geneva married Merle E. Hendrikson on June 19, 1953 in Forest City.
She worked as a para-professional at the Washington and Hoover
Elementary Schools for 28 years, retiring in 1998. She was an active
member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, sang in the church choir and was
a member of a church circle.
Geneva is survived by her husband, Merle E. Hendrikson of Mason
City; five children, Dr. Ronald Hendrikson and wife, Nancy of
Oberlin, Ohio, Brian Hendrikson and wife, Joan of Clear Lake, Kevin Hendrikson and wife, Susan of Ventura, Beth Haack and husband,
Tony of Mason City and Mark Hendrikson and wife, Niki of' Mason
City; 10 grandchildren; brothers, George "Al" Brones and wife,
Norma of Littleton, Colorado and Donald Brones and wife, Laura of Denver,
Colorado; sister, Charlotte Oulman and husband, Dick of Scarville, John N. Brones of Mason City
and Allen Brones and wife, Billie of Arvada, Colorado; and
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Edith
Rausch.

Harlan A. Peterson, 75, of Albert Lea,
died on Saturday, January 19, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services
were
held on Wednesday, at the St. Theodore's Catholic Church, Albert Lea, with
Rev. Kurt Farrell officiating.
Interment was in the St. Theodore's Catholic Cemetery. Military honors
were accorded by the Albert Lea Veteran's Organizations.
Harlan was born on November 23, 1923 in Worth County, Iowa, to Gilbert and Alvina
(Lau) Peterson. He lived in Worth County and attended the Northwood
School. Harlan served his country in the U.S. Army. He also lived in
Chicago, Illinois and then Freeborn County, Minnesota. He married Julia Bednarz on July 1, 1944 in Chicago.
Harlan attended the
St. Theodore's Catholic Church. He farmed for many years and also
worked part-time for the State of Minnesota at the Hayward Rest
Stop. He was a member of the Eagles, enjoyed dancing, spending time
with his family and having coffee with his friends.
He is survived by three children, Diane Nelson and her husband, Jim
of Omaha, Nebraska, Dennis Peterson and his wife, Kathy of Albert Lea and Dori Thompson and her husband, Paul Erntson of Albert Lea; eight
grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; special friend, Fran
Blakestad of Albert Lea; sisters, Belean Johnson of Navarre, Florida,
Loretta Nelson of Forest City, Phyllis Cordera of Calumet City,
Illinois, Marjorie Grigutis of Munster, Indiana, Dorothy Dempewolf of North
Glen, Colorado, Genevieve and husband, John Kirsch of Albert Lea and Rena
Christensen and her husband, Jim of Farmington, Minnesota; brothers, Maynard
Peterson and his wife, Maxine of Albin, Indiana, Arnold Peterson of
Glenville, Lemoine Peterson and his wife, Pat of Hastings, Minnesota, Arthur
Peterson and his wife, Shirley of Timballton, Iowa, Norman Peterson and
his wife, Connie of Albert Lea, Palmer Peterson and his wife, Crystal
of Twin Lakes, Gaylord Peterson and his wife, Darlene of Albert Lea
and Gordon Peterson and his wife, Linda of Glenville; and many nieces
and nephews.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Julia in 1982;
and brother-in-laws, Ronald Johnson, Kenton Nelson, Batista Cordera,
Ed Grigutis and John Dempewolf.

C. Dale Johnson, 77, of Osage, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at the
Waverly Municipal Hospital in Waverly.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 25, at
the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in
Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating.
Interment was in the Osage Cemetery.
Dale was born on June 20, 1924 near Carpenter, the son of Clarence
and Ruth (Parker) Johnson. He attended the Carpenter School until his
junior year and then graduated from the Orchard Consolidated School in
1942.
He became a member of the Meroa Rock Creek Lutheran Church in 1947.
On March 19, 1950, he married Marjorie Kittleson at the First Lutheran
Church in St. Ansgar. They then resided in Otranto for five years
where Dale farmed, later moving west of Osage where he farmed for 29
years, until 1985 when he retired and they moved to Osage.
Survivors include his wife
of 51 1/2 years, Marjorie; six children,
Robert D. Johnson and friend, Karen Lenz, Larry E. Johnson and his
wife, Lynda, LaVonne G. Freund and husband, Galen, James S. Johnson
and wife, Jody, Richard A. Johnson and wife, Mary Jo and Donald L.
Johnson and his wife, Barb, all of Osage; five sisters, Eleanor Schallock of Osage, Margaret Olsen of Osage, Mildred Sponheim of
Nora Springs, Carol McLaughlin of Belmond and Sharon Boyce of
Roseville, Minnesota; four brothers, Charles Johnson of Osage, Harley
Johnson of Osage, Ivan Johnson of' Osage and Keith Johnson of
Fort Dodge; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Florence
Borcherding; and one brother, Kenneth Johnson.
