Keith W. Collins, 74, of Clear Lake, died
on Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at
the St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester,
Minnesota..
Funeral
services will be held on Monday, August
14, at 11:00 a.m., at the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ) Clear Lake,
with the Reverend Mark Young
officiating. Interment will be at a
later date in the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City.
Memorials
may be given to the Keith W. Collins
Memorial Fund, to be used as a gift to
the Christian Church Building Fund.

Virginia Ann Ubben
August 11, 2000
Virginia Ann Ubben, 68, of Ackley, died
on Thursday,
August 10, 2000, at the Rochester
Methodist Hospital, Rochester,
Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on
Monday, August 14, at the United
Methodist Church in Ackley, with the
Reverend Paul Smith officiating.

William L. Robinson
II
August 22, 2000
William L. Robinson II, 97, of Hampton,
died on Wednesday, August 16, 2000, of
natural causes at the Muse Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A memorial service was held at the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton
on Tuesday, August 22, with the Rev.
Wilbert Trusheim officiating. Burial was
in the Hampton Cemetery. The Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home, Hampton, was in charge of
the arrangements.
William Robinson was born on July 20,
1903, the son of William L. Robinson and
Ella French. He received his education
at the Hampton High School. He went to
Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Union
College in New York, and the University
of Iowa in Iowa City.
William married Enid Hanson on July 3,
1938, in Forest City. They owned rental
property.
William enjoyed horseback riding and
traveling. He was a member of the
Hampton United Methodist Church, the
Anchor Lodge #191 A.F. & A.M. Masonic
Lodge in Hampton, and a member of the El
Kahir Shrine Club.
William is survived by his daughter, Jo
Ella Helmer of Greenville, South
Carolina; son, William Robinson II, of
Hampton; two grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; wife; one brother; and a sister.

August 26, 2000
Funeral services for Wallace E. Whipple, were
held in Tampa, Florida, with burial at
Tampa on Saturday, August 19, 2000.

LaVern
F. Lemke
August 24, 2000
LaVern F. Lemke, 86, of Hampton, died
on
Monday, August 21, 2000, at the Extended
Care Nursing Facility in Hampton.
Funeral services will be held on
Thursday, August 24, at 11:00 a.m., at
the Morgan United Methodist Church in
rural Dows, with the Rev. David Gobeli
officiating. Burial will be in the
Morgan Township Cemetery, rural Dows.
The Elledge Funeral Home of Dows is in
charge of the arrangements.
LaVern Frank Lemke was born on January
25, 1914, at his home in Morgan
Township, Franklin County, the son of
Frank and Bertha Waller Lemke. He
attended country school and in 1931
graduated from the Dows High School. For
a few years after graduating, he worked
for farmers and later began farming on
his own near Dows.
On November 25, 1937, he was united in
marriage to Johanna Gerzema in Des
Moines. After their marriage, they
raised their family and continued
farming near Dows. He retired from
farming in 1976 and in 1987 moved to
their present home in Hampton.
LaVern was a member of the Morgan
United Methodist Church where he was
baptized and confirmed. He held several
offices, taught Sunday School, sang in
the church choir, and was a member of
the Morgan Quartet. As a young man he
often sang solos in church as well as
for weddings and funerals.
LaVern is survived by one son, Dennis
of Dows; four daughters, Darlene (Mrs.
Darold) Bucholz of St. Augustine,
Illinois, Judy Gorder of Dows, Linda
(Mrs. John) Kidney of Webster City and
Nancy (Mrs. Tom) Kornfeld of Greenville,
South Carolina; ten grandchildren; one
great-grandson; and several nephews and
nieces.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife, Johanna, who died on
April 26, 1999; seven brothers,
Clarence, Elmer, Arthur, Wesley, Lee,
Jesse and Harry; five sisters, Elsie
Sutton, Cora Brandt, Esther Campbell,
Edna Peterson and Sarah Frye; and one
grandson, Mark Bucholz.

Gladys Varrelmann

Gladys Varrelmann, 84, of Hampton, died
on
Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at the
Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.
Visitation
is planned for Sunday, August 27, at the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.
Funeral services will be held on Monday,
August 28, at the Immanuel United Church
of Christ, Latimer, with the Rev. Jeff
Long officiating. Burial will be in the
Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Iowa.

Ignacia Guerrero, 84, of Hampton, Iowa,
died on Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at the
Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City, Iowa.
Visitation is planned for Friday,
August 25, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton,
with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on
Saturday, August 26, at 10:00 a.m., at
the St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Hampton, with Father James Miller
presiding. Burial will be in the Hampton
Cemetery, Hampton, Iowa.

Leora "Lea"
Stephenson
August 26, 2000
Leora "Lea" Stephenson, 85, of Clear
Lake, Iowa, formerly of Hampton,
died on Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at her
home in Clear Lake.
Visitation is planned for Friday,
August 25, from 6-8:00 p.m., at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N.
4th St., Clear Lake, and one hour prior
to the service time at the church.
Funeral services will be held on
Saturday, August 26, at 3:00 p.m., at
the Regular Baptist Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. Steven Cox officiating.
Burial will be in the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Highway 18 West, Mason City.
Memorials may be made to the Regular
Baptist Church in Clear Lake or to the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in
Mason City in her honor.

Alvin H. Riis
August 26, 2000
Alvin Harold Riis, 82, of Hampton, died
on
Thursday, August 24, 2000, at the
Franklin General Hospital Nursing
Facility, following a series of strokes.
There will be no visitation. Memorial
services will be held on Sunday, August
27, at 4:00 p.m., at the St. Paul
Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hampton,
with the Rev. Karla Griffen and the Rev.
Jon Anderson officiating. The Sietsema-Vogel
Funeral Home, Hampton, is in charge of
the arrangements.
As per his wishes, his remains were
donated to the Mayo Medical Foundation
for the advancement of medical science.
Memorials may be given for the
establishment of a scholarship at the
Sheffield-Chapin/Meservey-Thornton High
School in Sheffield and a camper ship
fund for the youth from St. Paul
Lutheran Church.

Henry Freese, 97, of Dumont, died on
Friday, August 25, 2000, at the Dumont
Care Center, Dumont, Iowa.
No visitation is planned. Graveside
services will be held on Monday, August
28, at 1:30 p.m., at the Dumont Cemetery
in Dumont, with the Rev. Robert Connor
of the Dumont United Methodist Church
officiating. The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral
Home, Dumont, is in charge of the
arrangements.

Carl Herman Niehaus, 94, of Clarksville,
died on Friday evening, August 25, 2000, at
the Community Nursing Home in
Clarksville, from natural causes.
Funeral services will be held on
Tuesday, August 29, at the St. John
Lutheran Church, Clarksville, with the
Rev. Norm Omodt officiating. Burial will
be in the Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville.
The Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville,

formerly of the Iowa Falls area, died
on Sunday, August 27, 2000, at the Manly
Nursing and Rehab Center, in Manly.

a.m., at the Bride Colonial Chapel,
Manly, with Pastor Paul Schaefer of the
Plymouth Road Bible Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Grant Center
Township Cemetery, rural Hampton.

Clifford R. Larsen, 70, of Hampton, and
formerly of Mason City, died on Monday,
August 28, 2000, at the Muse-Norris
Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held on
Friday, September 1, at the St. James
Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the
Rev. Craig Larsen and the Rev. David
Anderson officiating. The Major Erickson
Funeral Home, Mason City, is in charge
of the arrangements. Burial will be in
the Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

formerly of Alexander and Latimer, died
on Monday, August 28, 2000, at the Israel
Family Hospice House in Ames due to
complications from diabetes.
Funeral services will be held on
Thursday, August 31, at 10:30 a.m., at
the Calvary Baptist Church, Webster
City, with the Revs. Terry Davenport and
Henry Jensen officiating. The Foster
Funeral Home, Webster City, is in charge
of the arrangements. Burial will be in
the Coulter Cemetery, in Coulter, Iowa.
