Catherine “Cathy” Anne Thomas, 59, of Rockwell, Iowa died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
    Visitation will be held from 3 - 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th St., Clear Lake. Memorials may be directed to the Cathy Thomas Memorial Fund.
    Cathy was born Dec. 6, 1947 the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Broderick) Bartle in Philadelphia, Pa.  Cathy graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia in 1965. She then attended Immaculata College with a teaching scholarship.
    Cathy moved to Rockwell and married Bill (William) Thomas on Aug. 29, 1991, at Clear Lake. She has worked at Principal Financial in Mason City for 14 years as a Senior Client Service Associate and she recently obtained her series 7 broker license.
    Cathy enjoyed vacationing on the coast at Brigantine, N.J., gardening, reading, bird watching, her pets and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
    Cathy is survived by her husband, Bill Thomas, of Rockwell; three daughters, Kim Young of Hampton, Iowa; Karen (Ben) Thomas of Clear Lake; and Kerri (Jim Poley) of Clear Lake; her mother, Catherine Bartle of Willingboro, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Nichole, Jacob, Dezerae, Danielle, Gabriel, Chance, Ryan and Rylee; two brothers, John (Mary) Bartle of Midlothian, Va.; and Robert (Nan) Bartle of Burlington, N.J.; brother-in-law, Randy (Becky) Thomas of Clear Lake; sister-in-law, Melanie (Ken) Marple of Frederick, Pa.; nieces and nephews, Amy Bowman, Ben Thomas, Mandy Clark, Candy Borrelli, Kristy Shaffer, Emily Bartle, Kenneth Bartle, Katelyn Bartle and Kristopher Bartle.
    Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Henry Bartle.

    Nancy Beard is remembered with so much love and happy memories of her life.  She will be truly missed and in our hearts forever.
    Nancy was born in Finlay, Ohio on Jan. 30, 1929 to Harold and Marge Bown.  Marge “Mamaw” survives having just celebrated her 100th birthday on Oct. 26, 2007.  Nancy was able to be a part of this extraordinary celebration.
    Nancy is survived by Bill, her husband and the love of her life for over 60 years; a son, Bob, his wife, Connie, and their children, Rob and Nick and Nick’s wife, Debbie, of Marshalltown, Iowa; a daughter, Connie, her husband, Gary and their children, Rebecca and Jeff of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a daughter, Cathy Joel and Greg Roberts of Florida and their daughter, Malea, living in Hawaii.
    Also surviving are Nancy’s sister, Jane Fiore (Joseph) and brother, Jim Bown (Carol), along with extended family and friends.
    Nancy was a lady of quiet grace - full of life and love.  Nancy loved Clear Lake and the very special friends and neighbors that were such a big part of her life.
    The family would like to express tremendous gratitude to the unbelievable  women who are a part of Hospice of North Iowa.  Their dedication, caring, and support gave the family strength and courage to help Mom through this most difficult time.  Please direct any memorial contributions to this outstanding service agency, Hospice of North Iowa.

       Vickie J. Dockwell, age 56, of Clear Lake, a native of Belmond, Iowa, died, Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, following a courageous battle with cancer.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Belmond United Methodist Church, 1031 1st Street S.E., Belmond.  The Reverend Michael Druhl will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Rowan, Iowa.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.  The family suggests those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Vickie’s name consider Hospice of North Iowa, or their choice.
       Vickie Jean Dockwell, the daughter of George and Bertha (Retleff) Dockwell, was born June 17, 1951, at Belmond.  In the early years of her childhood the family lived in Rowan where she began her schooling.  They later moved to Riceville, Iowa, where she continued her education in the Riceville Schools and participated in extra-curricular activities, such as band. She and her family were also members of the Riceville Congregational Church.  Vickie and her family moved to Belmond in 1966.  She then attended Belmond High School and was active in vocal music for a number of years and had went to state as part of the vocal music and Thespian’s program.  Vickie graduated from Belmond High School with the Class of 1969.
        Vickie then pursued her post secondary education at North Iowa Community College in Mason City, where she received her Associates Degree in Business.
        Following her schooling she was employed for a period of time with Mesaba Airlines at the Mason City Airport.  She had also worked for a time with the Cerro Gordo County Coroner’s office and James T. Joyce.  She had also co-owned an Artic Outpost  Fishing Camp on Victoria Island, Northern Canada, for a number of years.
        Vickie eventually took a position with Kingland Capital and Kingland Systems in Mason City and was employed there for many years.  The company eventually became Southwest Securities based out of Dallas, Tex., with offices in Mason City.  Vickie’s position with the branch was assistant vice president. Vickie held various broker/dealer licenses.  In more recent years she had done some consulting work for others out of her home.
        Vickie enjoyed the simple things in life.  She was somewhat reserved in her nature, but once she got to know you would welcome your friendship with open arms and strived to help when the need arose.  She enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles and the journeys that came with them in the camaraderie of friends.  She looked forward to the challenge during her years of bowling and was always up for a round of golf with her family and friends.  Vickie loved the outdoors and times spent fishing.  She enjoyed times spent in the company of her family and cherished the many years of companionship, memories, and life journeys shared with her long time mate Kevin Nye.  The two enjoyed many of the same interests and hobbies, be it their love of the music of George Harrison, McCartney, Clapton, and others of their generation, or a friendly afternoon on the golf links.  Vickie very much loved her pets, she especially looked forward to times with her puppies, the couple’s parakeets, and in more recent times the snuggles and undying love and friendship of her long haired dachshund, Oscar.
       Vickie truly faced the adversity of her battles with the affliction of cancer with grace and dignity, enduring many treks for treatments to fight against the illness.
       Those who will cherish the memories and times in Vickie’s life include her companion, Kevin Nye, 808 South Shore Dr., Clear Lake; her father, George Dockwell and wife, Dona, Belmond; two brothers, Kim Dockwell and his wife, Linda, Ventura, and David Dockwell and his wife, Tonya, Belmond; Kevin’s children, Cory Nye, Clear Lake, and daughter, Casey Dotzler and her husband, James, Bondurant, Iowa; also many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends;  two sisters-in-law, Amy Snow, Fridley, Minn, and Karen Nye, Mason City, Iowa, and her buddy, “Oscar”.
        She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her mother, Bertha Dockwell on Jan. 1, 2004, and uncles and aunts.

    Wilbur Paul Peterson, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
    Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 24, at Faith Lutheran Church, Miller, Iowa with Lay Minister Rose Visser officiating.  Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials may be directed to the Wilbur P. Peterson Memorial Fund.
    Wilbur Paul Peterson was born Nov. 30, 1917, in Hancock County, the son of Martin L. and Tillie (Roswag) Peterson.  He graduated from Ventura High School in 1936.  He worked for PG & E Electric until he engaged in farming.  Wilbur was united in marriage to Helen Farrow on April 20, 1941, in Albert Lea, Minn. To this union four children were born.  Wilbur farmed for 30 years until moving to Garner, Iowa in 1972.  He worked for several years at the Garner-Hayfield Junior High School as a custodian. After his retirement he did volunteer work for the Garner Education Center.  In 2006, he moved to Clear Lake.
    Wilbur enjoyed golfing, gardening, taking bus trips with Helen and spending time with his family and friends.  He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Miller, and a board member for the Ventura Elevator for 18 years.
    He is survived by his wife, Helen Peterson, Clear Lake; children, Linda (Jeff) Raymond, Indianola, Iowa, Donna (Gary) Boyd, Worthington, Minn., Amy (Wayne) Pralle, Latimer, Iowa, Rebecca (Don) Lamana, Walker, La.; grandchildren, Candi (Mike) Christensen, Indianola, Shane (Jen) Boyd, Franklin, Tenn., Shannon (Brian) Blatti, Ellendale, Minn., Stacy (Todd) Sparks, Maple Grove, Minn., Collin Peterson, Clear Lake, Ashlee and Mandi Lamana, Walker, La.; two step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Zach Christensen and Jacob and Anna Blatti; brothers, Allen (Arlene) Peterson, Ventura, Kermit (Vivian) Peterson, Mason City; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    His parents, Martin and Tillie Peterson, preceded him in death.

    Burl “Bud” Kishline, 64, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
    Funeral Services were held Monday, Nov. 26, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rhoda Preston officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Bud Kishline Memorial Fund.
    Bud was born Dec. 14, 1942 in Indianapolis, Ind., the son of Burl and Betty Alice (Shoemaker) Kishline.  Bud graduated from Davenport High School and later attended the University of Iowa.
    Bud delivered motor homes throughout the United States for Winnebago Industries including 113 trips to Alaska which was his favorite run.  Bud married Loretta “Lori” Wilson June 28, 1975 at Mason City.  He was an independent truck driver for many years, the last nine years for Landstar.  He and Lori were prominent business owners through the years, owning businesses including Thirsty’s Lounge in Rockwell, Iowa to several convenience stores in the Mason City, Clear Lake and Ventura area. They are best remembered for the Quick Shop in Clear Lake.  Bud was an avid Nascar Fan. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt #3.
    Bud is survived by his wife, Loretta “Lori” Kishline of Clear Lake; son, John Kishline of Rochester, Minn.; daughter, Rebecca (Brad) Duckert of Mason City; three grandchildren, Samantha, Gavin and Tucker Duckert; mother, Betty Corwin of Bettendorf, Iowa; brother, Phil (Ginny) Corwin of Bettendorf, Iowa; mother and father-in-law, Bill and Elsie Wilson, of Ventura; brother-in-law, Gordon (Linda) Wilson of Ventura; sister-in-law, Jo (Mike) Oulman of Garner, Iowa.
    Burl was preceded in death by his father, Burl F. Kishline and brother, Mark Corwin.

    Charles Raymond Yuhouse, 87, of 809 6th Place N., Clear Lake, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
    A time of gathering with family and friends will be Saturday, Dec. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.  Inurnment with military honors will be held at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Family suggests memorials to Charles Raymond Yuhouse Memorial Fund.
    Charles was born Dec. 12, 1919 in Mason City the son of John and Georgia Alta (Collins) Yuhouse.  He graduated from Mason City High School in 1938.
    He worked for A & P Grocery in Mason City.  He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during the WW II.  Following the service he moved back to Mason City and worked for A & P Grocery and later was transferred to Cedar Falls, Iowa as store manager.
    He married Norma Treloar June 29, 1947 in Albert Lea, Minn. In 1950 they moved to Clear Lake, where he worked for Northern Natural Gas until he retired in 1982.
    He enjoyed his many fishing trips to Canada; gardening, especially sharing his tomatoes with friends and volunteering at Opportunity Village to help plant seeds in the spring. He was well known for his bean soup that he would make during a blizzard and go around and share with his friends
    After his retirement he enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona and his many trips over to the Mississippi River to be with his family.
    He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 0222.
    Charles is survived by his wife, Norma Yuhouse, Clear Lake; daughter, Sandra Wolfe and her husband, Robert, Clear Lake; son, Jim Yuhouse and his wife, Sally, Harpers Ferry, Iowa; two brothers, Lavern Yuhouse, Robert Yuhouse and his wife, Dixie; and sister, Joanne Rolland and her husband, Dave, all of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Tom Treloar and his wife, Pat, and sister-in-law, Betty Grell, all of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews. 
    He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Yuhouse; sister, Amy Edriss and her husband, Roland; and a brother-in-law, Reuben Grell.

    Lavern “Vern” Benner, 58, of 22 Sunset View Dr., Clear Lake, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007 at his home.  Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 30, 11 a.m., at the Christian Church, 302 Highway 18 W. Clear Lake, with Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4 -7 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or Relay for Life.
    Vern was born Sept. 24, 1949 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Sherril and Lila (Hansen) Benner.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1968.
    Vern married Patsy Bowers June 9, 1967 at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake.
    He worked for Burt Dowden Skelly Station, Rozen Chevrolet and Clear Lake Bakery as a mechanic, Lake Auto Parts and then at his present job at Mid-Land Equipment, Clear Lake as service manager.
    He enjoyed bowling, golfing and especially spending time with his family.  He was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed working on home improvement projects.
    Vern is survived by his wife, Patsy Benner, Clear Lake; three sons, Mick Benner, Clear Lake, Brian Benner and his wife, Sherri, and Barry Benner and his wife, Linda, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tracy Dose, Trina Dose, Gavin Allen, Taylor Dose and Drake Allen; one great-grandson, Christopher Kay; a sister, Beverley Kephart Washington, Iowa; four brothers, Don Benner, Phoenix, Az., Jerry Benner and his wife, Arlene, Grand Prairie, Texas, Stan Benner and his wife, Betsy, St. Peter, Minn., and Phil Benner and his wife, Maryann, Shreveport, La.; sisters-in-law, Jacque Paulson, Clear Lake, Julie Fountas and her husband, John, Parachute, Colo. and Donna Trebil and her husband, Bruce, Clear Lake; brothers-in-law, David Bowers and his wife, Linda, Clear Lake, and Lloyd Bowers, Sweet Water, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherril and Lila Benner; mother and father-in-law, Leonard and Betty Bowers; nephew, Tommy Benner; brothers-in-law, Keith Paulson and Ray Kephart; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Benner and a niece, Janet Kephart.

    Evelyn Margaret Stockwell, 95, died on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.  Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.  Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake and also one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
     Evelyn was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Christian and Sarah (Solsaa) Anderson.  She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1932.  On May 28, 1938 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Stockwell at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.  She and Kenneth owned and operated Stockwell Radio and T.V. in Clear Lake.
     Evelyn loved to bake and read poetry.  She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
     Evelyn is survived by one daughter, Brenda Pringle and her husband, John, of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren, Scott Pringle of Hattiesburg, Miss., Tammy Fejfar and her husband, Jeremy of Holmen, Wis., and Nicole Colixtro and her husband, Juan of Charles City, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ana Marie, Juan, Elena Calixtro, and Caleb Fejfar; and many nieces and nephews.
     Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth (July 30, 2000); her parents; one sister, Agnes Haner; two brothers, Ralph Anderson and Raymond Anderson; and one son, Kenneth Alan Stockwell.

    Beverly Imogene Calgaard, 82, died Nov. 23, 2007.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa with Pastor Bill Peters officiating.
    Beverly was born April 18, 1925 in rural Clear Lake to Gustave and Della (Welch) Haugen.  She was a member of the Fertile Church of Christ and was baptized in the Winnebago River.  She graduated from Fertile High School in 1942, attended St. Olaf College and graduated from Hamilton’s School of Commerce on the Super Honor Roll on April 15, 1945.
    On April 21, 1945, Beverly married Roy K. Calgaard at Bethany Lutheran Church.  They lived in rural Fertile, Joice, Iowa and briefly in Lake Mills and Clear Lake, Iowa. She was employed by Deluxe Products and the Graphic Newspaper, Eli Colby Peat Company in Lake Mills and NIACC, Mason City.  A lover of music, she served as the church organist at Bethany and Sion Lutheran Churches and accompanied many soloists.  She played piano, organ, clarinet and violin and was a member of the girls only orchestra in Mason City.
    She was involved in church activities, circles and also was an active member of Sons of Norway.  She was a life-long learner, and enjoyed genealogy, handcrafts, cooking and traveling.  One of her happiest days was when she caught 8, 9, and 10 pound northerns while her husband got skunked.  In her later days she started the day by finishing the cryptoquote and crossword puzzles.
    She is survived by her husband, Roy Calgaard, Clear Lake; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ron Nelson, Lincoln, Calif.; son, Danny Calgaard, Naples, Fla. and three grandchildren, Christina and Nicholas, Naples, Fla., and Erica, Des Moines, Iowa, and many loving friends.
