James E. "Jim" Ormsby

James E. "Jim" Ormsby, 92, Forest City, Iowa, formerly of rural Ventura, died May 24, 2005 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  Memorials may be given to the James E. Ormsby Memorial Fund.
Jim was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Woden, Iowa, the son of John and Josie (McCroden) Ormsby.  He attended parochial schools in Wesley, Iowa and Wesley High School.  Jim farmed until entering the U.S. Army during WWII.  He married Maxine Thronson on Oct. 22, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner, Iowa.  They continued to live on Maxine's family farm south of Ventura.  He painted for over 40 years and also helped on the farm.  Maxine and Jim had celebrated 56 years together. 
Jim loved his music. He played the guitar, harmonica and violin.  He enjoyed going to nursing homes and playing his music.  Jim and Maxine loved to dance and won a dance contest at the Surf.  He was everybody's friend.  Jim took pride in his faith, family and music his whole life.  He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus Counsel #7897 of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner and he enjoyed singing in the church choir.   
Jim is survived by three daughters, Kathy Meinecke and her husband, Don, Forest City, Karen Purcell and her husband, Dan, Clear Lake, and Joan Losey and her husband, Brad, Clear Lake; seven grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer Meinecke, Michael and special friend, Carmen, Matthew, Benjamin and Rachel Purcell and Courtney Losey; one sister, Mary Ormsby, Sacramento, Calif. and many special cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine, on Oct. 5, 2003; granddaughter, Sara Purcell; brother, Joe Ormsby; sister, Eileen Kearney and one infant sister.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge or arrangements.

Floy E. Hershberger

Floy E. Hershberger, age 67, of Spirit Lake, Iowa and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa died on May 23, 2005 in Spirit Lake.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 27, at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Lake View Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake on Friday. The Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.
Floy Evelyn Baumgartner was born on Sept. 30, 1937 in Forest Township, Iowa to Clarence and Hazel (Valley) Baumgartner. She attended school in Clear Lake and graduated in 1955 from Clear Lake High School. Continuing her education, Floy attended Iowa Teachers College and Buena Vista College. She graduated in 1976 with a degree in education.
On June 16, 1957, Floy was united in marriage to James Monroe Hershberger in Clear Lake. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Mace, Steve and Mike.
Floy enjoyed boating, reading and watching FOX News. She cherished her time with her family and friends. Her grandchildren were deeply loved and she treasured the time she spent with them.
Those left to cherish Floy's memory are her children, Mace Allen Hershberger of Okoboji, Iowa, Steven Kent Hershberger and his wife, Stacia, of Ozark, Mo. and Michael James Hershberger and Jenny of Coralville, Iowa; grandchildren, Alec Monroe Hershberger and Ethan Michael Hershberger of Ozark, Mo. as well as many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Monroe Hershberger and brother, Dale Olson.

Eula Marcene Frigaard

Eula Marcene Frigaard, age 77 of Waseca, Minn., died Friday, May 27, 2005 at her home in Waseca. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca with the Rev. Roger W. Haug officiating. Burial was at Prairie Queen Cemetery in Nunda, S.D.
Born in Canton, S.D. on Nov. 9, 1927, she was the daughter of Paul and Evelyn (Kittelson) Seffens. She graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, S.D. in 1945. She moved to Luverne, Minn. in 1947 and worked at the Star Herald Newspaper. She married Alan Frigaard on Aug. 27, 1949 in Sioux Falls. After getting married they moved to Cooperstown, N.D. where she was employed at the Sentinel Courier Newspaper. They moved to Marshall in 1951 where she worked at Lyco Gas. In 1966 they moved to Waseca and she operated a greeting service for new residents for 12 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and Senior Citizens, all in Waseca.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherryl and her husband, Jackson Wilcox, of Clear Lake, and Becky Arnhold of Janesville; one son, Marty Frigaard and his wife, Seiko, in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii; four grandchildren, Colby Hanf, Crystal Frigaard, Brody Ernewein, Riley Arnhold and one great-granddaughter, Angela Bergquist.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister and one grandson.

Russell William Armfield

Russell William Armfield, 89, Clear Lake, died Monday, May 30, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 3, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Richard Scott of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake officiating.  Burial will be in the Zion Reformed Church Cemetery in Sheffield, Iowa.  Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to service time on Friday at the chapel.
Russell William Armfield was born on Oct. 15, 1915 in Franklin County, Iowa the son of George and Mary (Sheperd) Armfield.  He attended and received his education in the Hanselltown school system.  He was united in marriage to Tina VanHorn on Feb. 22, 1940, in Sheffield.  She preceded him in death.  Russell farmed his entire life in the Sheffield and Swaledale, Iowa area before moving to Clear Lake in 1975.  He was united in marriage to Elsie Shook on Oct. 15, 1979, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bowling, camping, traveling - especially wintering in Yuma, Az., and playing pool and cards at the Senior Citizens Center in Clear Lake, but his great love and enjoyment was being a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a member of the Senior Citizens Center in Clear Lake, and was a former member of the Zion Reform Church in Sheffield, and attended the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elsie Armfield of Clear Lake; two sons, Roger Armfield and his wife, Renett, of Victoria, Texas, and Larry Armfield of Garner, Iowa; two step-sons, Roger Shook and his wife, Alicia, of Stanwood, Iowa, and Larry Shook and his wife, Sharon, of Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Dean and Daniel Armfield; a great-grandson, Bret Armfield; five step-grandchildren, Matthew Shook and his wife, Heather, Jenny Stolley and her husband, Doug, Neil Shook and his wife, Cami, Julie Muth and her husband, Shane, and Cory Shook; nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Armfield and his wife, Mildred, of Latimer, Iowa and a sister-in-law, Lena Armfield of Hampton, Iowa, as well as several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Besides his first wife, Tina, he was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Raymond Armfield.

Fayne Marie Huntley

Fayne Marie Huntley, 89, of 12201 Lark Ave., died Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral service were held Monday, June 6, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Chaplain Edward Bard officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. 
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Fayne Marie Huntley was born Dec. 26, 1915, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Daniel and Etta (Frohling) Patton.
Fayne attended country school in Clear Lake.  She and her family farmed in the Clear Lake area.  She was united in marriage to Laurice Huntley on March 25, 1934. To this union four children were born.  Together they farmed for several years south of Clear Lake.  She worked at the Cottage Cleaners and retired from North Iowa Community Action in April of 1991.
Fayne loved spending time with her family, and cooking them dinner every Sunday. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening.  She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, Queen Rebekah Lodge in Mason City, and Owesew Club in Burchinal.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth D. Huntley and his wife, Bettie, of Clear Lake, Keith D. Huntley and his fiancée, Gloria, of Clear Lake, Ronald D. Huntley, of Charles City, Iowa and Wayne D. Huntley and his wife, Marge, of Rockwell, Iowa; a half-sister, Betty Gilbert, of Ottumwa, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Etta Patton; husband, Laurice Huntley; a brother, Wayne Patton; and an infant sister, Virginia Patton.

Michael "Mike" W. Ades

Michael "Mike" W. Ades, 36, of Woden, Iowa died Tuesday, May 31, 2005 in a traffic accident near Crystal Lake, Iowa.  Funeral services were held Friday, June 3, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jan Burnett and the Rev. Bill Poland officiating.  Interment was in Grant Township Cemetery, rural Fertile, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Mike Ades Memorial Fund.
Mike was born May 13, 1969 in Sheldon, Iowa the son of Carl and Wilma (McCollough) Ades.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1987. Following high school he attended North Iowa Community College.
He was an Eagle Scout and, with the help of Troop #30, built a bat roost at Lime Creek Nature Center as his Eagle project. 
Mike married Jami Johnson on May 18, 1991 in Forest City, Iowa.  They moved to Volga, S. D. and lived there until the fall of 1993, when they moved back to the Forest City area and he started working for Winnebago Industries.
Mike loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping, mushroom hunting, eating ice cream, his dog, Mattie, camping, cooking and especially spending time with his family as his daughters, his nieces and nephews were very special to him.
Mike never got excited about anything and would always go with the flow.  He was always there for his friends.  He grew up attending Clear Lake United Methodist Church and was a member of Trappers Association and Ducks Unlimited.
Mike shared his life and will be sadly missed by his wife, Jami Ades, Woden, and their three children, Sydney, Sadhna and Samara (Sammi) Ades; his parents, Carl and Wilma Ades, Clear Lake; two brothers and one sister, Jerry Ades and his wife, Sheila, Sioux Falls, S.D., Beth Hanson and her husband, Mike, Lake Mills, Iowa and Mark Ades and his wife, Molly, Belmond, Iowa; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Deidre Johnson, Forest City, Iowa; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Jodi Fank and her husband, Dan, Manly, Iowa and Cody Johnson, Forest City, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Carter and Dylan Ades, T.J. and Hannah Hanson, Krista, Ashton and Adrii Fank and Theresa Storby and also many uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends.

Frances "Frannie" D. Pannhoff
 

Frances "Frannie" D. Pannhoff, age 70, most recently a resident of the Concord Care Center, Garner, Iowa, formerly a resident of Klemme and Kanawha, Iowa, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7, at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme. The Rev. Donna Buckman officiated. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Memorials are suggested to the family or Frannie or the donor's choice.
Frances Delores Otto was born Nov. 2, 1934, in Rockford, Iowa, the daughter of Charlie and Helen (Hutchison) Otto. She attended Rockford area schools and graduated from Rockford High School with the Class of 1953.
Frances was later united in marriage on Jan. 13, 1956, to Kenneth "Kenny" D. Pannhoff at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
The couple made their home and raised their family in the Klemme and Kanawha areas. They lived in Klemme form 1962-1982 and then moved to Kanawha in 1982, residing their until Frannie moved to the Concord Care Center on July 13, 2001. Kenny also resides at the care center.
Frances was a lifelong home maker, devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed times spent with her family and friends. Family fishing excursions and get togethers were some of her favorite past times.
Her faith life was very important to her and she was very active in both the Klemme and Kanawha church families. Enjoyment came from her times spent with various bible studies and in later years she liked to attend church services at the care center.
Frannie loved to work jig saw puzzles and welcomed any opportunity for a game of cards. Some of her favorite card games included Canasta and Uno. She had done a lot of embroidery and needle point work over the years.
She had been a volunteer at the Concord Care Center for a number of years prior to her living there.
Frannie will be remembered fondly for her wonderful sense of humor.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband and life partner of nearly 50 years, Kenny Pannhoff, Garner; three sons, Jim of Forest City, Al and wife, Connie, Swea City, Iowa, Doug and wife, Tracie, Klemme, Iowa; two daughters, Patty and special friend, Dan Smith, Klemme and Sharon and husband, Donny Reysack, Klemme; 11 grandchildren: Teri Jo Cohrs, Klemme, Andy Cohrs, Garner, Tanya Harley, Klemme, Jeremy Pannhoff, Mason City, Michael Pannhoff, Klemme, Nathan Pannhoff, Klemme, Ashley Pannhoff, Klemme, Telsie and Brittney, Klemme, and Serena and Collin Pannhoff, Swea City; great-grandchildren, Harli and Brooklyn, McKenna and Morgan, Damarion, MacKenzy, and Treveina; sister, Joyce Constein, Green, Iowa; half-sisters, Nancy Holm, Mason City, and Janice Fisher, Waterloo, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Larry; daughter, Jean; brothers-in-law, Francis Constein, Dean Pannhoff, Lyle Pannhoff; sister-in-law, Arlene (Pannhoff) Lovik; and a niece Linda (Constein).

Fern M. Linahon

Fern M. Linahon, age 79, a long time resident of Klemme, Iowa, most recently a resident of the Concord Care Center, Garner, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 3, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held, 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme. The Rev. Donna Buckman will be officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Fern Marjorie Linahon, the daughter of Edward and Christine (Ausborn) Gifford, was born Oct. 28, 1925, on a farm south of Klemme. She attended various country schools and Ventura High School.
Fern married William Dale Linahon in November, 1946 and to this union was born two children, Jerry D. Linahon and Marlene F. (Linahon) Smith.
Fern enjoyed gardening, horses, and dogs. She was also well known for her outstanding wedding cakes and decorating skills. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and creating her own designs. She was also well known for her wonderful cooking skills.
Fern had been an active member and served in various roles, including as an officer in the Veterans Ladies' Auxilary and a Cub Scout den mother.
She had resided at the Concord Care Center since August, 2002.
Fern is survived by her son, Jerry and wife, Melba, Laurel, Mont.; her daughter, Marlene and husband, James (Jack) Smith, Klemme; her grandchildren, Kristal Hodges, Redmond, Ore., Nicole Eastlick, Wichita, Kan., Matthew Linahon, Forest City, Iowa, Michelle Rodriguez, Redmond, Ore. Christina Smith, Klemme, Teri Smith, Klemme, and two great-grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, various aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Andrews Funeral Home, Klemme.

Jennie Lewerke

Jennie Lewerke, 91, of 1037 19th St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa died Saturday June 4, 2005 at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, Iowa.
Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 9, at Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Christian Church, 340 20th St. S.W., Mason City, with Pastor Jack Vanden Heuvel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 -7 p.m. at Hogan-Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, and again Thursday one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials may be given to Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Jennie was born Aug. 3, 1913 in Barnevold, Holland the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick VanRavenhorst. At the age of six she came with her parents and siblings to America. They settled in Rock Valley, Iowa and later Hollandale, Minn. area where she attended school.
Jennie married Lewie Lewerke on Feb. 26, 1934 in Hollandale. They moved to Crystal Lake, Iowa area were they were vegetable farmers. In their vegetable growing years, truckers from the Midwest and local customers made sure they arrived around coffee, tea or dinner time, as they would always be invited in to dine and socialize with Mom and Dad. Due to their strong Christian beliefs there was a large entry sign stating "No Sale On Sunday" that greeted everyone. They retired in 1967 and moved to Mason City, Iowa. She worked as a banquet waitress for over 25 years at the Sheraton and Hanford Inn Mason City.
She enjoyed canning, gardening, morning coffee and afternoon tea with her family and friends, but the greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was a member of Woden Christian Reformed Church until she moved to Mason City and became a member of Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church, Mason City.
She will be sadly missed by her four children, Ella Frenz, Dick Lewerke and his wife, Bonnie, Al Lewerke and his wife, Barb, and Zelda Elwood and her husband, Larry, all of Mason City; 12 grandchildren: Cindy (Dan) Mueller, Bob Frenz, Penny (James) Frenz Thornton, Kim Richardson, Brian (Jan) Lewerke, Sherry Lewerke, Brad Lewerke, Christine Lewerke, Toma Elwood, Greg Bennett, Troy (Amy) Elwood, and Trevor (Sarah) Elwood; six great-grandchildren: Brook Frenz, Brianna Lewerke, Branden Lewerke, Taylor Richardson, William Elwood, and Madelyn Elwood; three sisters-in-law: Hilda Loecker, Clarks Grove, Minn., Esther Van Ravenhorst, Albert Lea, Minn. and Lois Van Ravenhorst, Lake Mills, Iowa.
Jennie was greeted in Heaven by her parents; husband and his 14 brothers and sisters; son-in-law, Bob Frenz and her 12 brothers and sisters.

Dixie Renee (Anderson) Hass

Dixie Renee (Anderson) Hass passed away at 6:30 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on May 26, 2005, just 10 days after her 62nd birthday, after a long illness. She will be interred in San Diego, Calif. where she and her family have lived for the past 27 years.
She is survived by her husband, Charles R. (Bob) Hass; her daughter, Bobbi Renee Burleson; and two grandchildren, Seth and Jessi Burleson.

Sandra Rose West

Sandra Rose West, 70, of 1917 South Shore Drive, died Tuesday June 7, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa.
A memorial service was held Friday, June 10, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. A private inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. 
Memorials may be directed to the Sandra Rose West Memorial Fund, which will be used towards the Clear Lake Pride Lions Club and the Clear Lake V.F.W. Building Fund.
Sandra R. West was born Dec. 24, 1934 in Waukee, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Tollari) Rilei.
Sandra graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa in 1952.  She attended Drake University, majoring in business.  She was employed by  Bradshaw, Fowler, Proctor and Fairgrave Law Firm.  She was united in marriage to Richard D. West on Nov. 2, 1959. To this union two children were born.   They moved to Clear Lake where they owned and operated the Half Moon Inn until 1968.  She was employed by Price Surveying for 30 years, until her retirement.  Sandra then owned and operated Camp at the Woods in Rock Falls, Iowa
Sandra enjoyed spending time with friends and family, entertaining, and life on the lake.  She was a charter member of the Clear Lake Pride Lions Club and St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Sandra is survived by her mother, Mary Rilei, of West Des Moines; daughter, Susan West (Steve Widener), of Clive, Iowa; grandchildren, Stephanie Widener and Steven Widener, of Clive; sister, Joan (Bill) Crowell, of San Diego, Calif.; niece, Lisa (Randy) Turner, of Sacramento, Calif.; nephew, Jeff Crowell, of San Diego, Calif.; great-nephew, Ross Turner and great-niece, Caitlin Turner, both of Sacramento.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Rilei and son, Kevin West.

Gwendola "Gwen" M. Hopkey
, 88, of 611 N. Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at her home in Clear Lake.  Due to her wishes, she will be cremated and private inurnment will be held in the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Family suggests memorials to Gwen M. Hopkey Memorial Fund.
Gwen was born Sept. 16, 1916 in Wayne, Neb. the daughter of William James and Mabel (Loncer) Olson.  She attended school in Rowan, Iowa. 
Gwen married Gaehart Hopkey in 1935 in Webster City, Iowa.  They farmed in the Alexander, Iowa area.  They bought a summer home in Clear Lake in 1968 and  retired from farming in the late 1970's and moved to Clear Lake. 
She enjoyed gardening, working on the farm and was known for her wonderful cooking.
Gwen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
Gwen is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Eckman and her husband, Jerry, Wichita, Kan.; son-in-law, Gene Collins, Ames, Iowa; two grandchildren, Harlan Baker, Thornton, Iowa and Laynette Lumley and her husband, Wayne, Collins, Kan.; sister-in-law, Carole Olson, Clear Lake, and several nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Barbara Collins; and four brothers, Dyke, Dale, Victor and Bill Olson.

Barbara E. Formanek

Barbara E. Formanek, 65, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa, after a five year struggle with multiple myeloma.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 17, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa with Fr. Barbara Ellen Formanek
, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Greiman) Wilson, was born Jan. 31, 1940 at Mason City.  She attended school at Ventura, Iowa and graduated from Swaledale High School, Swaledale, Iowa in 1958.  On Sept. 11, 1958 she was married to Allan Dwayne Formanek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan.  They farmed south of Hayfield, Iowa for 10 years and then owned and operated Al's Grocery in Duncan for five years.  In 1974, they purchased the A & W in Britt, Iowa which they operated for 17 years.  They also owned and operated an A & W in Clarion, Iowa.  They have lived in Clear Lake since 1989. Her first job experience was with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Garner, Iowa.  After retirement she enjoyed managing Kasey Kathleen's Boutique and then working at the Red Geranium, both located in Clear Lake.  She cherished spending time with her family, decorating her home and wintering in Arizona.
She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Rosary Society, Catholic Workman Branch No. 51 and T.T.T.
Barb is survived by her husband, Allan, of Clear Lake; two daughters, Lori Foy and husband, Shawn, of Elko, Minn. and Kathi Morris and husband, Kenneth, of Phoenix, Az.; three grandchildren, Amanda Barbara Elliott and husband, Eric, Seth Foy and Kenneth Joseph Morris III (Trey); three sisters, Nancy Ward and husband, Dennis, of Rockwell, Iowa, Linda Lapierre and husband, Mike, of Universal City, Texas, and Beth Milbrandt and husband, Dennis, of Rockwell; a brother-in-law, Robert Arndt of Rockwell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Janet Arndt.
Barbara will always be remembered for her zest for life and bringing a smile to many a face with her sharp wit.

Forrest "Frosty" Wilbur Coe

Forrest "Frosty" Wilbur Coe, 77, of Ventura, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, at the United Methodist Church in Ventura, Iowa with the Rev. Audrey Westendorf Young officiating. Burial will be in the Ventura Cemetery with military honors conducted by members of the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Forrest "Frosty" Coe was born on June 16, 1928, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Blanche (Porter) Coe. He attended and received his education in the Ventura School system. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt during World War II. He was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginny" Lee Stepleton on May 1, 1953, in Mason City. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2005. Forrest worked as a finish carpenter and foreman for 25 years for Beck and Fisher Construction Company in Clear Lake building many homes around the lake. He later worked as a finish carpenter and foreman for 10 years for Nonnweiler and Reichardt Construction Company in Garner, Iowa until his retirement.
Forrest loved and enjoyed building wood working projects for his family and helping other people. He loved the outdoors, hunting, reading, riding around the lake and was a sports enthusiast, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He was a Methodist by faith. He was a charter member and past president of the Ventura Gun Club and won the Class C Championship. He also loved bowling and was the 1969 all events bowler and bowler of the year. While in the Navy Forrest played AAA baseball.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Matthew M. Coe of Ventura, Teresa Patton and her husband, Charles, of Montevideo, Joni Chase and special friend, Clint Kaune, of Oelwein, Iowa, Jeff Coe and his wife, Debora, of Rochester, Minn., and Amy Reiter and her husband, Brad, of Clarion, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Nick, Taylor and Sydney Patton, Sandy Coe, Sarah (Coe) Myers, Michael and Matthew Chase, Julie (Chase) Love, Joshua and Ashley Coe, Amanda (Coe) Johnson, and Tyler, Michellynn and Payton Reiter; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Cleo Overgaard of Ventura; a brother, Larry Coe and his wife, Jane, of Ventura; two sisters-in-law, Carol Mahrenholz and her husband, Jerry, of Tifton, Ga., and Irene Coe of North Branch, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Charles Stepleton, of Clear Lake as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Besides his wife, Forrest was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Forrest W. Coe Jr.; three brothers, Ted, Kenneth, and Cecil Coe, and a sister, Joy Currier.

Elaine Arlene Zuehlke

Elaine Arlene Zuehlke, 80, of Ames, Iowa, died Sunday, June 19, at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, Iowa. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 24, with the Rev. Julie Zuehlke, at Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Elaine was born Nov. 5, 1924 in Mason City to Henry and Hilda Wearda. She married Erwin Zuehlke on Feb. 7, 1943 in Mason City. She was an Avon sales representative for 12 years and was also co-owner of Lake Realty in Clear Lake. Her hobbies included being with family and friends, fishing in Canada and playing bridge. She moved to Ames in November, 2001.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam (John) Maurer, Ames, and Jan (Paul) Lande, Huxley, Iowa; a son, Terry (Julie) Zuehlke, Golden Valley, Minn.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin, in December 2001; one son; one daughter, one son-in-law, and one granddaughter.
Adams Funeral Home, Ames, was in charge of arrangements.

Gilbert E. Mills

Gilbert E. Mills, 63, of Plymouth, Iowa died Monday, June 20, 2005, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa. 
Memorial services were held Thursday, June 23, at the United Methodist Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Cremation took place with inurnment in the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth.
Gilbert E. Mills was born on March 17, 1942, in Novinger, Mo., the son of Cleo and Daisy (VanHoose) Mills.  He attended and received his education in the Novinger school system.  Gilbert began working for the Pre-Stress Concrete Company in Des Moines, Iowa in 1962, and worked for them until 1973 when he began working as a counter salesman for Standard Bearing Company in Des Moines. He was transferred to Mason City, Iowa in 1979 and worked for Standard Bearing until 1984.  Gilbert also worked for Precision Industry in Mason City as a counter salesman and operations manager until his retirement in 2003.
He was united in marriage to Laurie Whitehurst on June 5, 1982, in Ventura.
Gilbert enjoyed fishing, photography, woodworking, and grilling, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He was a Baptist by faith, and was a Cub Scout Master for Pack 420 in Plymouth.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Laurie Mills of Plymouth; his children, Jerry Mills of Hannibal, Mo.; Gayla Gauke, and Janet Pederson of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Josh, Jake and Makayla Mills, all of Plymouth; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five brothers, Jack Mills and his wife, Hazel, of Atlanta, Mo; Larry Mills and his wife, Carol, of Drums, Penn.; Denny Mills and his wife, Dee, of Huntington, Ind., Frank Mills and his wife, Nancy, of Atlanta, Mo.; and Randy Mills and his wife, Garla, of Novinger, Mo.; one sister, Norma VanZee and her husband, Michael, of Des Moines; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Steven Mills.

James L. "Jim" Palmer

James L. "Jim" Palmer, 69, of 1402 North 24th Street, Clear Lake, died Friday, June 24, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.
His funeral service was held Tuesday, June 28, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with Pastor Jan Burnett officiating. A private family inurnment service will take place on Wednesday, June 29, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.  Memorials may be directed to the Jim Palmer Memorial Fund.
Jim was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Menomonee, Wis., the son of Adam and Elma (Meninger) Palmer.  He graduated from high school in Delavan, Minn. and continued his education at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minn.  He later earned his Masters Degree from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Mo.  Jim married the love of his life, Shirley Kirkeide, on June 23, 1957 in Easton, Minn.  The couple moved to northern Iowa where Jim worked as a special education teacher, first in Britt, Iowa and then for the Hancock County school system.  He then began an over 30 year career as a special education consultant for the Northern Trails Area Education Agency.  He worked tirelessly at schools all around the North Iowa area to make sure that the lives of children with special needs were enriched.  Jim also taught at the Mason City campus of Buena Vista University for eight years, training future special education instructors. 
When he wasn't devoting his time to special needs children, Jim enjoyed woodworking and traveling.  His favorite destination was Plymouth, Mass.  He loved to joke around, especially with his large extended family and enjoyed many activities with his grandchildren.  Jim was a faithful member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and of ARC.

Jim will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Shirley, of Clear Lake; his son, Mark Palmer and his wife, Amy, of Clear Lake; two daughters, Melody Scheetz and her husband, John; Jennifer Palmer, all of El Paso, Texas, and eight grandchildren: Adam, Andrew, Stephanie, Samantha and Zachary Palmer, Keely and Heather Scheetz, and Alexander Palmer. 
He is survived by one brother, Gene Palmer, of Mason City; a daughter-in-law, Kaye Fuss and her husband, Mike, of Milwaukee, Wis. and many other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffrey Palmer, in 1989.
Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Alvina Smidt

Lois Alvina Smidt, 85, of Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, Iowa died Tuesday June 21, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  Services will be Friday 10:30a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with Pastor Dave Wiersbe officiating.  Interment will be in the Madison Twp. Cemetery, Forest City, Iowa.  Visitation will be one hour before the service on Friday at the church.  The family suggests memorials to Evangelical Free Church.
Lois was born March 10, 1920 in rural Thompson, Iowa the daughter of Ezra and Fern (Dingman) Smidt.  She lived at home with her parents until her mother died and  has spent her remaining years at Duncan Heights, Concord Care Center, Opportunity Village and  Oakwood Care Center.  The family would like to thank the staff for the wonderful care that was given to her.
Lois enjoyed her visits with her family, friends, her pastor and listening to Rod Carlson sing.   She will always be known for her beautiful smile.  She was a member of Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake.
Lois is survived by her sister Ruth B. Ouverson, Fertile, Iowa; brother Donald Smidt and his wife Marvel, Forest City, Iowa and a sister Darlene Holecek and her husband Glen, Centuria, Wis. and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Harold "Moke" Ouverson and an infant sister.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
