Mary Lou A. Mann
Mary Lou A. Mann, 78, 405 27th Ave S., Clear
Lake, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Muse Norris Hospice, Mason City, Iowa.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 2, at Galilean Lutheran Church,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs officiating. According to her wishes her
body has been cremated. Inurnment was Monday, April 4, at Memorial Park
Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa for
the Hospice Garden.
Mary Lou was born Sept. 22, 1926 in Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Nicolaus
and Clara (Tamm) Hollander. She attended school in Schleswig and Denison,
Iowa. She worked in Sioux City. Mary Lou married Ralph E. Mann May 10, 1947 in
Seneca, Kan. They lived in Sioux City, and later moved to LeMars, Iowa in
1963. They moved to Clear Lake in 1968. Mary Lou worked at Johnson Paint and
Gift in Clear Lake. In 1973 she went to work for the North Iowa Medical Center
and Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa as a unit clerk, retiring in 1990. After
retiring, she worked with families doing home health care. She loved
gardening, flowers and playing cards. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen's
Center and taking road trips to apple orchards. Mary Lou loved her dog, Annie.
Her church was very important in her life. The overall joy of her life was her
family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Mary Lou was a
member of the Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.
Mary Lou is survived by her two children, Michael Mann, Denison, and Cindy
Brattrud and her husband, Jeff, Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Nicole Mann,
Omaha, Neb., Joshua Mann, Chicago, Ill., and Dain Mann, Ventura, Iowa; one
great-grandchild, Cayden Brager and two sisters, Betty and Ernestine.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Mann on Sept.
16, 1987; one brother, Edward; one sister, Anna Marie, and an infant son.

Donald Floyd Coe
Donald Floyd Coe died Tuesday, March 29, 2005,
at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, after an eight year battle with
Melanoma. Memorial Service was held Saturday, April 2, at the Ventura United
Methodist Church, Ventura, Iowa with Pastor Audrey Young officiating. Inurnment
was at the Mt. Vernon Township Cemetery, Burchinal, Iowa with Military Honors by
the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Don was born July 7, 1943, at Mason City, Iowa, the son of Shirley A. Coe and
Elsie (Spilman) Coe. He lived in Lake Township until the age of three and then
moved to the family farm at Ventura. He attended school in Ventura for 13
years, graduating in 1961.
On Dec. 22, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Kruggel. Don was
a veteran of the United States Air Force and Don and Judy were stationed in
Syracuse, N.Y., San Angelo, Texas and Sacramento, Calif. He was a Vietnam
veteran and in 1966 served a one-year tour of duty in Da Nang.
Following his military service Don attended the University of Northern Iowa,
graduating in 1972. He then moved back home to Ventura and worked for Everett
Peterson Construction for two years, building the family's current home on the
shore of the "Little Lake" in the process.
In 197 Don started his teaching and coaching career in the Mason City School
system as a biology teacher at Mason City High School. He then taught on the
seventh grade team at Roosevelt Middle school, retiring in 2001. Don enjoyed
his position working for Ken Mortensen Construction from 2002 to the present.
He was a Coach of the Year for both varsity boys track and assistant varsity
wrestling in the Big 8 Conference. He also served as varsity boys cross country
coach and assistant sophomore football coach. He helped to originate the annual
Mohawk canoe trip to the Boundary Waters and for many years and was a leader of
Mason City Mohawk Backpackers on their mountain treks to Colorado and Wyoming.
He enjoyed hunting with his German Shorthair dogs, Heidi and Gunner. He also
enjoyed fishing, canoeing, wilderness backpacking, sailing and golfing. On Jan.
27 he realized a lifetime dream of playing the golf course at Pebble Beach,
Calif. with his friends.
In 1973 Don bought his first Hobie 16 sailboat and three months later won the
Division 7 Championship and a trip to the nationals at Key West, Fla. He would
go on to win the seven-state honor three more times, as well as many fleet
championships in the Clear Lake Yacht Club and other Midwest regattas. For two
years Don was the sailing school instructor for the yacht club and also nurtured
in his daughters and son-in-law an enjoyment for sailing.
He was an avid history buff and enjoyed reading about World War II, the Civil
War and the Indian Wars. He had a special interest in the Battle of the Little
Big Horn which culminated in a long awaited trip to Custer National Monument
where he toured all of the battle sights with Judy in 2003.
Don's greatest joy was his family, and he especially enjoyed passing on to his
daughters his love of the great outdoors. He took Megan and Mindy canoeing in
the Boundary Waters and backpacking in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains.
He had a great appreciation for all types of music and loved to play the
guitar. He was an accomplished artist favoring oil paintings, especially
wildlife.
He is a former member of the Ventura Gun Club, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants
Forever, Clear Lake Hobie Cat Fleet 10, Clear Lake Yacht Club, a member of the
Ventura Planning and Zoning Commission and past President of the Ventura Booster
Club.
Survivors include his wife, Judy, of Ventura; two daughters, Megan Coe of St.
Peter, Minn. and Mindy Griffin of Silverdale, Wash. and her husband, Jeff
Griffin, of Ventura; one brother, Gary Coe and wife, Ellen, of Severn, M.D.;
three sisters, Linda Woo and husband, Grant, of Fair Oaks, Calif., Diane Elsbury,
of Ventura and Elaine Aberg and husband, Jim, of Mason City. He is also
survived by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Gerdes, of Clear Lake; two
brothers-in-law, Kurt Kruggel and wife, Kelly of Burchinal, Iowa and Ron Gerdes
and wife, Sue Saunders, of St. Paul, Minn., as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Michael D. Coe.

Dwight G. Wirtz
Dwight G. Wirtz, 49, of Mason City. Iowa died
Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason
City. Two memorial services will be held, both with the Rev. Donald Simmonds
officiating. The first memorial service will be at 2 p.m., April 9, at the
Battin Chapel Church, located at the Intersection of County Road J Avenue and
216th Drive in Ogden, Iowa. The second service will be held in Mason City at 2
p.m., April 15, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive. A
reception and celebration of Dwight's life will be held immediately following
this service at the Mason City Community Theatre, 215 South Delaware Avenue.
Inurnment will be in the Ogden Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the
family suggests memorials to the Dwight G. Wirtz Scholarship Fund at Clear Lake
High School, 306 First Avenue North, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428 or the Mason City
Community Theatre, 215 South Delaware Avenue, Mason City, Iowa 50401.
Dwight was born Jan. 26, 1956 the son of Robert E. and Rose Marie (Berglund)
Wirtz in Boone, Iowa. He attended school in Ogden graduating from Ogden
Community High School in 1974. Dwight graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University
with a Teaching Degree in 1978.
Dwight taught in Rembrant and Lake City, Iowa before joining the staff at the
Clear Lake High School where he taught English and speech for nearly 20 years.
He also directed plays and was involved in speech contests with the students.
Dwight's teaching career illustrated his desire to help young people and his
feelings on the importance of education. One retired co-worker said, "Dwight was
capable of teaching the higher grades, but remained teaching the freshman year,
he took the rowdy and unready and prepared them to finish a proper education."
Dwight was an active member of the National Education Association. His teaching
career echoed his true passion: the theatre. Dwight began his theater career in
high school and had several major roles in college productions. Dwight was very
active in the Mason City Community Theatre, wearing many hats; actor, director,
board member and past president. He recently received the Calvin Award for
outstanding contributions in the MCCT.
Dwight broadened his talents into the culinary arts. He enjoyed preparing and
serving gourmet dishes for his family and friends. Dwight also had a rich taste
for fine music and literature. Dwight will be dearly missed by family and his
large network of friends all over the world.
Dwight is survived by his father, Robert Wirtz and partner, Eleanore Redmon, of
Ogden; brother, Dennis Wirtz of Marshalltown, Iowa; sister, Janice McCoy and
husband, Tim, of Perry, Iowa; brother, Jeff Wirtz and wife, Tammy, of Ogden; and
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and countless dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose and sister-in-law, Sandy Wirtz.

Janet F. Zerby
Janet F. Zerby, age 86 of Clear Lake, formerly
of Austin, Minn., died Monday, March 28, 2005 at Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 1, at Crane Community Chapel with
Pastor David Wiersbe officiating. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery in
Austin.
Janet was born Nov. 9, 1918 in Towner, N.D. to Ben and Lizzie (Anderson) Nemitz.
She moved to Austin before she was two years old and graduated from Austin High
School in 1936. On July 16, 1949 she married Louis Zerby and to this union three
children were born. She worked at Hormel's for nine years.
Janet was a member of Crane Community Chapel for many years and taught Sunday
School and Bible School for 15 years. She was also active in the Women's
Missionary Society and served a term as president.
She enjoyed traveling, playing golf, cooking, crafts and church activities. Most
of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was loving and kind to all
who knew her.
In the summer of 2002 she moved to Clear Lake and lived with her daughter and
son-in-law, Nancy and Tim Smith. After her move to Clear Lake she became a
member of the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Smith and husband, Tim, of Clear Lake;
sons, Joe Zerby and wife, B. J., of Hope, Minn., Alan Zerby and wife, Bonnie, of
Rochester, Minn.; stepson, David Zerby and wife, Joy, of Woodbridge, Va.; and
stepdaughter, Marjorie MacDonald and husband, Ken, of Virginia Beach; 21
grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; brother, Nathan Nemitz and wife,
Audrey, of Austin; sisters, Patricia Burke and husband, Allan, of Albuquerque,
N.M. and Virigina Palmer and husband, Dale, of Hayward, Calif. and many nieces
and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; son,
Steven; husband, Louis; brother, Clifford Nemitz; sister, Betty Wirthlin and
stepdaughter, Evelyn Sullivan.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Alfred
William Leitner
Alfred William Leitner, 76, Clear Lake, died
Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at his home in Clear Lake.
A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, April 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake
Cemetery.
Alfred William Leitner was born on Dec. 21, 1928, in Peoria, Ill., the son of
Ignatious Henry and Mable Caroline (Fletcher) Leitner. He attended and received
his education in the Peoria schools. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on May
22, 1946, in Chicago, Ill. He was a member of the 994th Material Squadron during
World War II and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of
Occupation Medal Japan. He was honorably discharged as PFC on May 24, 1947, at
Camp Stoneman, Calif. Alfred worked in the steel mills in Peoria before moving
to Moline, Ill., and worked as a ticket agent for Braniff Airlines until 1956
when the family moved to Clear Lake where Alfred was the manger for Ozark
Airlines for 30 years until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to Clara Jane Marshall on June 14, 1952, in Moline,
Ill.
Alfred enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers and small engines, and visiting with
family and friends, but his great love and enjoyment was his wife, family,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Clara Jane Leitner, of Clear Lake; his
children, Christiana Stitts, of Mason City, Lisa Leitner Calaway and her
husband, Jerry, of Minneapolis, Minn., Regina Bartling, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and
Rachael Leitner Smith and special friend, Gary Laurents, of Bossier City, La.;
12 grandchildren, Deryck, Felisa, Robert, Timothy, Ben, Alexis, Jayna, Stephen,
Hayley, Michele, Mary Beth, and Stevi; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo
Leitner and his wife, Mary, Phil Leitner and his wife, Vera, all of Peoria; two
sisters, Ceceila Hauk and Dolly Ingersoll, both of Peoria as well as other
relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Alfred Timothy "Elf" and
Stephen Leitner; and three brothers, Richard, Bob, and Rapheal Leitner.

Eenhuis
Mathilda E. Eenhuis, 90, of Garner, Iowa died
Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 8, at Peace Reformed Church south of
Garner with the Rev. Jeff DeBoer officiating. Music was provided by organist,
Connie Greiman who accompanied soloist, Brent Renner and congregational hymns.
Ushers were Bill Katter, Sr. and Steve Lenz. Honorary bearers were Jerry Eenhuis,
Robert Peterson, Les Peterson and Larry Schlawin. Pall bearers were Craig
Schlawin, David Eenhuis, Steve Eenhuis, Virgil Stahl, Larry Eenhuis and Chad
Schlawin. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Cataldo Funeral Home
in Garner was in charge of arrangements.
Mathilda Elizabeth Eenhuis, the daughter of Otto A.L. and Mathilda E. (Katter)
Schlawin, was born Sept. 3, 1914 on a farm southwest of Garner. She was baptized
and confirmed by the Rev. C.A. Schmid. She attended the rural schools Liberty
Township. On Dec. 23, 1935 she was married to Menno Johann Eenhuis at the
Kanawha Christian Reformed parsonage. They farmed northeast of Kanawha for four
years, northeast of Hayfield for 26 years and then northeast of Miller for four
years before retiring to Garner in 1970. In 1989, Mathilda moved to the Town
Square Apartments in Forest City and in 1999 to the Three Links Apartments in
Mason City. She became a resident of Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake in June
of 2002. She enjoyed her family and working with craft items.
She was a member of Peace Reformed Church where she was active in the Women's
Missionary Society and taught Sunday school.
Mathilda is survived by her children, Marjorie (Orlando) Peterson of Clear Lake
and Melvin (Pauline) Eenhuis of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren, Carolyn
(Craig) Schlawin of Farmington, Minn., Robert (Genon) Peterson of Forest City,
Iowa, Les (Robin) Peterson of Colorado Springs, Colo., David (Toalima) Eenhuis
of Mason City, Iowa and Steven (Shirley) Eenhuis of Mason City; six
step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren;
two great-great-grandchildren; five step-great-great-grandchildren; her twin
sister, Myra Stahl, of Belmond, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Menno, on March 5, 1991; her parents;
a great-grandson, Michael Tavita Eenhuis; an infant brother; a brother, Roger
Schlawin; and three sisters, Sadie Lemke, Norva Cole and Helena Boland.

Dann Duane Cohrs
Dann Duane Cohrs, 53, of 15283 Black Locust Ave,
Ventura, Iowa died Monday April 4, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center West Campus,
Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 7, at Redeemer
Lutheran Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Daird Korth officiating. Graveside
services were Friday, April 8, at Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa with
Military Honors by the Atlantic Color Guard. Family suggests memorial be given
in Memory of Dann to be used in the new park in Ventura by the Lake.
Dann was born Oct. 21, 1951 in Atlantic, Iowa the son of Duane and Lorraine (Readinger)
Cohrs. He graduated from Atlantic High School in1969 and was All State Football
tackle in 1968. He was always active in sports and played basketball with Alumni
against the Kansas City Chiefs for a charity event. He entered the United States
Air Force Dec. 7, 1970. He served as a medic while in the service. Following
the service he enrolled and graduated from Weber State University, Ogden, Utah
and then became a member of the faculty at Weber State. He then became program
director of Diagnostic Medical Technology at University of Iowa Hospital. He
never knew a stranger. He helped all he could.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, U.S. History, reading about Lewis and Clark, and
Indians.
Dann is survived by his son, Eric (Lynne) Taylor and their children, Hailey and
Riley of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Kyra Dannielle Cohrs and special
friend, Ryan Edmunds, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his parents, Duane and Lorraine
Cohrs, of Ventura; brother, Douglas (Debra) Cohrs, of Mason City, Iowa; three
sisters, Pamela (Raymond) Nielsen of Avoca, Iowa, Julie (Brian) Zwald of
Farmington, Minn. and Kristie (David) Christians of Klemme, Iowa and nieces and
nephews.
Dann was preceded in death by Grandma and Grandpa Cohrs, and Grandpa Readinger.

Ora Margery
Hofbauer
Ora Margery Hofbauer, 81, of Dike, Iowa,
formerly of Ventura, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at the Parkview Manor in
Reinbeck, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 8, at the United Methodist Church in
Ventura with Pastor Audrey Westendorf Young officiating. Burial took place in
the Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
Ora Margery Hofbauer was born on Sept. 8, 1923, in Thompson, Iowa, the daughter
of Boal and Helen (Hove) Anderson. She attended rural country school around the
Thompson area. After completing her schooling she helped many families in their
homes in the Thompson area. She was united in marriage to Howard D. Hofbauer on
Aug. 17, 1942, in Bethany, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1998. After
their marriage Ora worked as a nurses aide in the Buffalo Center Hospital until
February 1961, when they moved to Dike and she worked in the Grundy Center
Hospital until later that year when they moved to Ventura. Ora retired from
Bestway Mfg. Company in Clear Lake in 1986. In 1999 she moved back to Dike and
had been a resident of the Parkview Manor in Reinbeck since April 2004.
Ora loved to read, make quilts, and bake. She will always be remembered by her
family and many friends for her gifts and giving, especially her pies.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ventura, and attended the
United Methodist Church when she lived in Dike.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Sandra Heerkes and her
husband, Vern, of Dike and Mary Brown and her husband, Bill, of Elkridge, M.D.;
four grandchildren, Chris Heerkes and his wife, Rhonda, and Michael Heerkes and
his wife, Karen, all of Dike, Rob Heerkes of Ionia, Iowa, and Bethany Larson and
her husband, Russ, of Reinbeck; six great-grandchildren, Krue and Karson Heerkes
of Dike, Bailey and Noah Heerkes of New Hampton, Iowa, and Hannah and Olivia
Heerkes of Dike; three sisters, Alica Christian of Foley, Ala., Anna Branstad of
Lake Mills, Iowa, and Thelma Leegaard of Hoffman, Minn. as well as other
relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, Howard, she was also preceded in death by her parents;
three brothers, Albin, Oliver, and Ernie Anderson, and one sister, Hazel Larson.

Ronald J. Knop
Ronald J. Knop, 74, of Ventura, died Thursday,
April 7, 2005 at the Concord Care Center, Garner, Iowa.
Memorial services were held Monday, April 11, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Garner with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Music was provided by organist
Barb Mrosko who accompanied soloist Warren Torkelson and congregational hymns.
Ushers were Earl Jaspersen and Gary Mrosko. Honorary bearers were his
grandchildren. Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery, Garner with military
rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner was
in charge of arrangements.
Ronald Julius Knop, the son of Julius Herman and Emma Rose (Rayhons) Knop, was
born Aug. 5, 1930 on the family farm west of Ventura. He graduated from Ventura
High School in 1947 and continued his education at Hamilton Business College in
Mason City. He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 29, 1950 and served
his country as a Staff Sergeant in the 1501st Air Traffic Squadron during the
Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge on Sept. 28, 1954 he returned
home to farm.
On June 3, 1951 he married Wilma Hyde at the Congregational Church in Clear
Lake. They lived west of Ventura where Ron farmed until ill health caused him to
retire in 1998.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner, the Gifford Olson
American Legion Post 256 in Garner and the Clear Lake V.F.W. He served on the
Ventura School Board and Garner Creamery Board.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma, of Ventura; four children, Ronald J. (Terri)
Knop II of Austin, Texas, Mona (Robert) Mims of Medina, Ohio, Leeza (Doug)
Phinney of Ventura and Lee (Sue) Knop of Sioux City, Iowa; seven grandchildren,
Austin Mims, Natalie Mims, Justin Phinney, Brandon Phinney, Caitlin Knop, Tanner
Knop and Emily Knop; a brother, Ken (Virginia) Knop, of Houston, Texas; a
sister-in-law, Ruth Knop, of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold, on Oct. 22, 2004.

Dwight Wirtz, 49, of Mason City, Iowa died
Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason
City. A memorial service will be held in Mason City at 2 p.m., April 15, at the
First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive, with the Rev. Donald Simmonds
officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the memorial service
at the Mason City Community Theatre, 215 South Delaware Avenue. Inurnment will
be in the Ogden Cemetery at a later date.

Nettie Alice
Delahoyde
Nettie Alice Delahoyde, 96, died early Tuesday
morning, March 29, 2005 at I.O.O.F. Home. A funeral service was held Thursday,
March 31, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City, with the Rev. Keith
Scott of Wesley Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Elmwood-St.
Joseph's Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Nettie Delahoyde Fund
Nettie was born to Fred and Eva (Lange) Chase on June 22, 1908 in Goodell, Iowa.
She attended Goodell schools and graduated from Mason City High School. She then
attended St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1929. She
worked as an R.N. doing private and general duty at the Park and Mercy
Hospitals. During a time in 1934 she was employed as the Public Health Nurse in
Mason City.
On Dec. 22, 1936 she was married to Howard Delahoyde in Canton, S.D. She
continued working at the hospitals while her husband was in the service during
WWII. After his discharge from the service they moved with their two children to
the I.O.O.F. Home in Aug. of 1946. Mr. Delahoyde began his duties as the
superintendent of the building and grounds while Nettie worked as a R.N. at the
I.O.O.F. Home and also assisted her husband with his duties. After the death of
her husband on June 26, 1966, Nettie moved to Clear Lake and worked at Ritters
Oakwood Manor until retiring on Oct. 30, 1980. She was a member of Wesley
Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Mercy Hospital Nurse's Alumni, Queen
Rebekah Lodge, and was a former member of the Mason City Police Auxiliary.
Nettie enjoyed reading, playing the piano, working in the lodge, and watching
"The Grand Ole Opry" on television.
She is survived by her two sons, Bruce Delahoyde and Fredrick Delahoyde, both of
Clear Lake; a brother, Jesse Chase and his wife, Helen, of Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; parents; three brothers and
two sisters.

Leila Rhoda Clark
Leila Rhoda Clark, 88, of Clear Lake, passed
away April 14, 2005 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Funeral services
were held Saturday, April 16, at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with
Pastor David Wiersbe officiating. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery,
Mason City, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa or Evangelical
Free Church.
Leila Rhoda Maddy Clark, daughter of John and Ella (Casner) Maddy was born Dec.
26, 1916 near Russell, Iowa. Leila married Floyd F. Clark on June 15, 1935 at
Chariton, Iowa. They began farming near Russell in 1936. In 1950 they moved to
northern Iowa and retired to Clear Lake in 1965. From 1965 until early 1980
Leila and Floyd delivered motor homes for Winnebago Industries. She drove over
one-half million miles.
Leila attended the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church. Leila was well known for
her home made breads and cookies. Leila loved music, especially the old gospel
hymns. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing cards. She was active in
her church and Women's Farm Bureau and was a long time member of the Clear Lake
Senior Citizens. Leila enjoyed telling stories about her parents and siblings,
and loved all sports and extra curricular activities that involved her children
and grandchildren.
Leila is survived by her three children, Howard Clark and wife, Genevieve, of
Davis City, Iowa, Yvonne Rossiter and husband, Carrol, of Nora Springs, Iowa and
Joycelyn Wood and husband, Leland, of Hanlontown, Iowa; eight grandchildren,
Travis and wife, Machelle, Clark, Tracy and husband, Barry, Andrews, Carmen and
husband, James Langford, Connie Rossiter, Christy Rossiter, Charles Rossiter,
Bryan Wood, and Craig and wife, Barbara, Wood; 11 great-grandchildren, Caitlin,
Cierra and Cadence Clark, Makayla and Kyle Andrews, Christina and Crystal
Langford, Scott, Lisa, Christofer and Shana Wood, many nieces, nephews and
friends and employees at Oakwood Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in 2000; parents Ella and John
Maddy; sisters, Edith, Elsie, Eva and brother, Frank.

Sandra Sue Ohrt, 65, Clear Lake, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at Muse-Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. A memorial service was held Saturday,
April 16, at the Forum of the Kinney Lindstrom Center at Opportunity Village
with Pastor Barb Schunke officiating. A private inurnment will be at Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials may be given to Opportunity Village in
memory of Sandra.
Sandra was born March 14, 1940 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls,
Iowa the daughter of Herbert R. and Nellie Harriet (Place) Ohrt. She has been in
living arrangements with Opportunity Village since September 1972. She enjoyed
fishing, embroidering linen table clothes, the Hawkeyes, helping others and she
especially enjoyed working at her jobs. She worked at NIVC (North Iowa
Vocational Center), Happy Chef as a dishwasher and Opportunity Village doing
piece rate assembly and packaging.
Sandra is survived by her brothers, Herbert R. Ohrt and his wife, Sandra, Iowa
City, Iowa and John R. Ohrt, Mesa, Az.; niece, Kimothy Hamer and her husband,
Gary, Marion, Iowa; nephew, Herb "Buddy" Ohrt, Iowa City, and two great-nieces,
Wendy and Sarah Hamer, Marion.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents.

Dick A. Marchand, 78, of 911 South Shore Drive,
Clear Lake, died Sunday April 10, 2005 at Fillmore County Hospital, Geneva, Neb.
Funeral Mass was held Thursday, April 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorials may be given to the Klemme United Methodist Church, St. Patrick's
Catholic Church or Newman High School in his name.
Dick A. Marchand was born to Louis and Florence (Sheldon) Marchand August 17,
1926 in Milford, Iowa. He had two older sisters, Leona (Frenchie) and Marge and
one younger sister, Donna (Donna Belle). He was named after his brother,
Richard, who died before he was born.
He attended Milford Public School System and graduated from St. Joseph's
Catholic School in Milford. Dick worked at Decker's as a "boner" for 41 years
and this is where he met LaVon Larick. They were married on Feb. 9, 1944. They
lived in Mason City until approximately 1959 where they attended St. Joseph
Parish and raised four children: Gary, Dixie, Vicki and David.
In 1997, he married Ruth Pringnitz from Kanawha, Iowa and shared his life with
her until his death. He loved playing cards, singing, dancing, fishing and
boating, his farm, his lake home, animals, new cars, Snickers candy bars, lemon
pie and his two families.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Patrick's Catholic Church and
he was a steward of the union at Deckers.
Dick is survived by his wife, Ruth Marchand, of Clear Lake; children, Gary (Desirei)
Marchand, of Des Moines, Iowa, Dixie (Mike) Kavars, of Clear Lake, Vicki

Anna Conners, age 94, most recently a resident
of the Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond, Iowa, formerly a longtime resident
of Klemme, Iowa died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 15, at the Immanuel Reformed United
Church of Christ, Klemme. The Rev. Donna Buckman officiated. Burial was in the
Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Anna Trampel was born July 14, 1910 to Peter and Jennie (Schaa) Trampel of
Kamrar, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Arthur Conners on Dec. 4, 1943 at
the Immanuel Reformed Church, Klemme. Following their marriage they made their
home in the Klemme area.
For many years Anna had done housekeeping for residents throughout the area
including Britt, Garner, and Clear Lake. She was known for her hardworking and
meticulous attention to her work.
Left to cherish the memory are her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and his
wife, Ruth, Trampel of Klemme; sister-in-law, Eula Trampel of Belmond, and many
nieces, nephews, and friends.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Melbourne;
brothers, John and Harmon Trampel; sister, Wemkie Cavitt; and her husband,
Arthur Conners.

John T. Eness, 83, of Garner, Iowa died Monday,
April 11, 2005 at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Garner with the Rev. Henry Friedrich officiating. Music was provided by organist
Barb Mrosko who accompanied soloist Beverly Cataldo and congregational hymns.
Usher was Gary Mrosko. Pall bearers were Lynn Smith, Bill Short, La Vern Vaage,
Larry Vaage, Sylvan Meling and Brad Snodgrass. Burial was in Concord Township
Cemetery, Garner with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner was in charge of arrangements.

John Thomas Eness, the son of Thomas and Bertha (Chentland) Eness, was born May
8, 1921 on a farm near Crystal Lake, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith. He graduated from Garner High School in 1940 and then began
working in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning trade. He also worked as a
movie projectionist for several years at the Avery Theater in Garner. John
served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II as a medical technician. He was
stationed in England for two and one-half years in the 303rd U.S. Hospital north
of London. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Garner and continued
working in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning trade for over 50 years at
C.J. Schneider's Hardware and Grocery and Smith's Hardware Heating and Plumbing.
One of his biggest joys was helping his customers seven days a week, providing
emergency service even on holidays and in all types of weather. As he got older,
so did his customers, and into his 80's he enjoyed the challenges of serving his
friends. His hobbies included gardening with a special interest in day lilies.
When his mother died he took over her African violets, checking them daily and
expanding the indoor garden. Other interests included flying, fishing and
woodworking.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he serviced the heating
system, St. Paul Men's Club and the Gifford Olson American Legion Post No. 256
in Garner.
John is survived by his sister, Bernice Eness, of Garner; three brothers,
Orville (Karen) Eness of Park Ridge, Ill., Vergil (Joan) Eness of Clear Lake and
Arlyn (Carolyn) Eness of Iowa Falls, Iowa; an aunt, Della Vaage, of Forest City,
Iowa; 12 nieces and nephews; many cousins and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judith (Roscoe) McKinney.

Arnold W. Terpstra, 76, of Clear Lake and
formerly of Lynnville, Iowa died Friday, April 8, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital
in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services for Mr. Terpstra were held Tuesday, April 12, at the Lynnville
Friends Church. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Lynnville. Smith Funeral
Home in Grinnell, Iowa handled arrangements.

The son of Arie and Rena Visser Terpstra, he was born Nov. 25, 1928, on a farm
north of Lynnville. He attended Black Oak Country School and was a 1946
graduate of Lynnville High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army
and served in post war Japan. He was married to Ruth Harris on July 15, 1950,
in Mason City, Iowa and the couple made their home in Lynnville. He was a
partner with his brother, Albert, of the Lynnville Seed Company from 1949 until
his retirement in 1983. He and his wife later moved to Clear Lake in the
mid-1980's.
Arnold was an active member of the Lynnville Friends Church, a charter member
and past president of the Lynnville Lions Club, and past president and member of
several organizations including Lynnville-Sully School District, Lynnville
Telephone Company, Iowa Seed Dealers Association, Western Seed Dealers
Association, and Grinnell General Hospital. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting,
fishing, skiing, and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Clear Lake; four sons, Douglas, of Eau
Claire, Wis., Mark, of Perry, Iowa, Steven, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Neal, of
Naperville, Ill.; one brother, Albert Terpstra, of Lynnville; one sister, Alice
LaRossa of Wichita, Kan.; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and John Terpstra;
and two sisters, Elizabeth Van Rees and Alma Terpstra.

Wilma M. Herker
Wilma M. Herker passed away at St. Mary's
Hospital in Rochester, Minn. on April 15, 2005. The family invites all friends
and family to a visitation of remembrance and celebration on Wed., April 20,
from 4:30 until 8 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. A
private family interment service will take place at later date at Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. The family requests that memorials be directed to
Harmony Ranch.
Wilma was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of M. Arlington and Cecil
(Morehouse) King. She was united in marriage to Amil Herker, Jr. in Des Moines,
Iowa. She and Amil moved to Clear Lake in 1954 and moved from Clear Lake to
Mason City in 2000.
Wilma was the office manager and bookkeeper for the Clear Lake Sanitary District
for 30 and a one-half years, retiring in February of 1991. She enjoyed serving
as the charter secretary for the Iowa Water Pollution Control Association
Auxiliary and was the past president of that organization as well. She also
served as the newsletter editor for the Iowa Water Pollution Control Association
for several years.
Volunteer work was a vital part of Wilma's life. She served as a Girl Scout
leader, a volunteer disc jockey at KCMR Radio, was a Red Cross Gray Lady,
volunteered with the American Cancer Society, the Discovery Shop, and she was a
volunteer with the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary. Following retirement she and
Amil enjoyed taking several cruises.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Amil, of Mason City; her son, Donald, and his
wife, Sumae, of Clear Lake; daughter, Beth Ann, and her husband, Mark Schumacher
of Clear Lake; and son, Martin, and his wife, Anita, of Traer, Iowa. She is
also survived by grandchildren Rene, Joseph, Abigail, Ashley, Stephan and
Jennifer and great-granddaughters Jessica, Megan, Sabrina, and Avery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and one sister.

Laura O. Boehnke, 91, of Ventura died Friday,
April 15, 2005 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 18, at St. John Lutheran Church east of
Garner, Iowa with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Music was provided by
organist, Paul Boehnke, who accompanied vocal soloist, Ruth Ann Taylor and
congregational hymns. Special music was provided by cellist, Julie Elhard and
violinist, Mary Giese. Ushers were Scott Ollenburg and Paul Boehnke. Pallbearers
were Dale Plath, Jon Hollatz, Robert Boehnke, Philip Boehnke, Mark Boehnke, Dale
Boehnke, Carl Chiko and Steve Hollatz. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Laura Olga Boehnke, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Jante) Hollatz, was born Aug.
20, 1913 on a farm north of Garner. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John
Lutheran Church. She attended St. John Parochial School and graduated from
Garner High School in 1931. Laura was employed at the bank in Ventura for 13
years, Mercy Hospital in Mason City for five years and the Hancock County
Treasurer's Office in Garner for seven years. On Jan. 27, 1956 she was married
to Earl Boehnke at St. Luke Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, Minn. They farmed
with Earl's brother, Lawrence, northeast of Garner and later with their son,
Tom, until retiring from active farming in 1983. In 1979, they moved into
Ventura. Laura moved to Apple Valley Assisted Living in Clear Lake in February
of 2005. She enjoyed her family, friends, quilting, gardening, card playing,
cooking, sewing, reading, and her church.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and
taught Sunday school. She also was a member of LWML, AAL, Birthday Club and
belonged to several bridge clubs.
Laura is survived by her son, Thomas (Janet) Boehnke of Ventura; four
grandchildren, Kara Joy, Shanna Sue, Brittany Lou and Kevin Thomas Boehnke; a
sister-in-law, Edna Boehnke of Edina, Minn. and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents; two sisters, Verna
Rankin and Lillian Boehnke; a brother, LeRoy Hollatz; brothers-in-law, Norman
Rankin and Art Boehnke; and sisters-in-law, Agnes Hollatz and Ann Hollatz.

"C.J." Shreck, 86, died of pneumonia Thursday,
April 14, 2005 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral
services were held Sunday, April 17, at McLaren's Funeral Chapel at Resthaven
Cemetery, West Des Moines, Iowa. A private burial service was held Monday at
Resthaven Cemetery.
C.J. grew up in New Market, Iowa the youngest of five children born to Frank and
Jennie Shreck. He was the batting star of the baseball team and an avid
clarinetist. He was a good student and as a teenager in the depression, spent
three winters living alone in an apartment in Des Moines while working as a page
in the state legislature. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated from
its College of Commerce in 1941. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps,
enlisting after Pearl Harbor and served as a bomber flight instructor. After the
war he returned to Des Moines to work successively at Wolf and Co., Weitz
Construction Co., Western Tool and Stamping Co. and finally Dental-Eze, Inc. He
was a long-time investor in Iowa farmland and this enabled him to retire early
with a vacation home in Clear Lake and a winter home in Naples, Fla.
C.J. married his New Market sweetheart, Ruth Shields, on Feb. 1, 1941 in
Clarinda, Iowa. Two children, Bobby and Becky, grew up in the family home on
Colonial Circle in West Des Moines.
He is survived by his son, Robert (Cherie Vinz) of Des Moines, and their
children, Benjamin (Mara Krongard) of Washington, D.C., Heidi. of Salt Lake
City, Utah, and John of Houston, Texas; and his daughter, Rebecca, and her
children, Sothavy, Sothea, Choey and Nani, all of Fairfield, Iowa and Sheyla, of
Iowa City.
C.J. was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthie; two brothers, Benjamin "Brodie"
and Lyle; and two sisters, Susan Johnston and Marie Fesenmeyer.

James Orville Palmer, 78, of Mason City, Iowa
died Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.
Services were held Thursday, April 21, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial
Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Interment was in
Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors by Mason City Veterans
Memorial Association. Family suggests memorials to James O. Palmer Memorial
Fund.
Jim was born March 19, 1927 in Orthel Township, rural Hancock County, Iowa the
son of Paul M. and Mildred L. (Clark) Palmer. He married Anna Gram in 1943. He
entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served during WWII as a carpenters mate third
class.
Following the service he moved back to Iowa and worked for the Clear Lake
Bakery, Omar Wonder Company and was then a foreman for Nash Finch Company in
Cedar Rapids and Waterloo, Iowa.
He married Catherine "Katie" Cooksley April 2, 1966 in SanBernadino, Calif. They
moved to the Mason City area where he drove semi for various companies, until
his retirment in 1989.
Jim enjoyed fishing, camping, watching sports, playing cards and especially
spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He was a member of Mason City V.F.W. Post 733, Muddy Pond CB Club and River City
Tri Club where his handle was known as Double D.
Jim is survived by his wife, Katie Palmer, Mason City; four children, Lester
Palmer and his wife, Judy, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Star Anders and her husband, Neal,
East Moline, Ill., Michael Palmer, Mason City, and Jeffrey Palmer and his wife,
Jean, Waterloo; two brothers, Willard Palmer and his wife, Doris, Holland, Iowa,

Mayvis D. Sheimo, 81, Garner, Iowa, formerly of
Willow Pointe, Mason City, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Muse-Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. A funeral service was held Saturday, April
23, at the Fertile Lutheran Church, Fertile, Iowa, with the Rev. Merlin Norris
officiating. Interment was held at the Brush Point Cemetery, Fertile.

Mayvis was born Dec. 7, 1923 on the family farm in rural Fertile, (Worth
County), the daughter of Tollef and Eleanor (Teigen) Felland. She attended
rural schools in Fertile. Mayvis married Erling Keith Sheimo on March 21, 1942
in Princeton, Mo. and they lived in Fertile. They moved to Buffalo Center, Iowa
in 1955 and lived there until 1962 when they moved back to Fertile. She was a
homemaker and waitress for many years at the Center Cafe and the A & W, in
Buffalo Center, Lime Rock Cafe in Fertile and Carol's Cafe, the Regatta and the
Half Moon in Clear Lake. After retiring she worked part-time at McDonald's in
Clear Lake. Mayvis loved to sew, quilt and make stuffed animals for her
grandkids. She loved the outdoors and gardening. She was a member of the
Fertile Lutheran Church.
Mayvis is survived by four children, Marsha Smidt and her husband, Richard,
Longmont, Colo., Pamela Hartman and her husband, Gene, Buffalo Center, Paulette
Quame, Ventura, and Jeff Sheimo and his wife, Cheryl, Clear Lake; 15
grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Jenkins and her
husband, Dennis, Longmont; two sisters-in-law, Ardis Sheimo, Fertile and Shirley
Sheimo, Garner, Iowa.
Mayvis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1994; two sisters,

Jacobs
Alvin Leroy Jacobs, 63, passed away March 20, 2005 at his home in Cottonwood,
Az., after a battle with cancer. According to his wishes, his body was
cremated.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30, at 11:30 a.m. at the Clear
Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Memorials
may be made to the Alvin Leroy Jacobs Memorial Fund or a charity of choice.
Alvin was born Aug. 18, 1941, to Wayne E. and Helena (Pannkuk) Jacobs in
Kanawha, Iowa. His father was killed in WWII at Iwo Jima on Feb. 23, 1945.
He attended school in Kanawha and graduated from Belmond High School, Belmond,
Iowa. After graduation he joined the U.S. Marines and served in the Bay of Pigs
Invasion in Cuba. Upon his return home he married Sandra Chapman, of Clarion,
Iowa, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on July 21, 1961. To this
union two children were born, Laura Lee and Kenneth A.
He worked at the Clear Lake Bakery for a time and after leaving there he worked
for a private electrician to learn the business. He then became a licensed
electrical contractor.
He was divorced in 1975 and moved to Springfield, Ill. On Nov. 11, 1978 he
married Beverly Haydon in Pawnee, Ill., gaining four stepchildren.
They moved to Santa Rosa, Calif., where he had his own electrical contracting
business until his retirement three years ago. Upon his retirement, they moved
to Cottonwood, Az.
His passions were his family and friends. He loved the water and anything to do
with it. He also loved to go RVing, camping, fishing, and hunting. He also
enjoyed Nascar races.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 26 years, Beverly; a daughter, Laura Lee Mernka
of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; a son, Kenneth (Michelle) Jacobs of Ft. Dodge; four
grandchildren, Kaara and Braden Mernka, Nathan and Jena Jacobs all of Ft. Dodge;
four stepchildren, Sheri (John) Williams of Covington, La., Lori (Mark) Lane of
Reno, Nev., Maurice John Colen of San Francisco, Calif. and Leda Wagner of Santa
Rosa, Calif.; four step-grandchildren, Leda and Esbel Williams of Covington, La.
and Trisa Field and Jamie Lane of Reno, Nev., two step-great-grandchildren,
Bradley Wilson and Jonathen Field of Reno, Nev.
He is also survived by his mother, Helena Boelman, Clear Lake; three sisters,
Irene (Lee) Doland of Waterloo, Iowa, Diann (Victor) Lambert of Pierson, Iowa
and Terry (Bruce) Carlson of Clear Lake; 13 nieces and nephews and several
great-nieces and nephew and one great-great-niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Jacobs, in 1945; his stepfather,
Clarence Boelman in 1977; a sister, Cindy (Melvin) Brown in 2001 and a
great-great-niece, Kylee Fowler in 2002.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Smallfoot
Harold Smallfoot, 79, of 4652 North Shore Drive,
Clear Lake, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at Hospice of the Valley, Scottsdale,
Az.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 25, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church,
Mason City, Iowa with the Rev. Joel Dahlen, officiating. Burial was in Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City, where members of Clear Lake VFW Post #4868 conducted
full military honors.
Memorials may be given to the Harold R. Smallfoot Memorial Fund.
Harold Ralph Smallfoot was born Jan. 21, 1926 at Dunbar, Neb. a son of Roy E.
and Clara K. (Schmittger) Smallfoot. He married Marge Greiman on Nov. 24, 1947.
Harold attended school in Nebraska. He served in the US Navy during WW II.
Harold drove truck for Bekins Trucking and farmed in the Garner, Iowa area for
several years. He married Ocie (Holt) Hrubetz on April 14, 1973 . Harold worked
at Armour for many years, retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed playing poker, cribbage, sports, and gardening. He especially enjoyed
watching the Phoenix Suns and he loved to fish with his grandchildren. He looked
forward to wintering in Scottsdale and returning to Clear Lake each spring for
the past 25 years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Mason City and a lifetime member of Clear
Lake VFW Post #4868.

Severson
Donald D. Severson, 76, a resident of Fishers,
Ind., formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa died on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at St Vincents
Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday,
April 29, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, Iowa with Pastor Kerry Jech
of Marshalltown, Iowa officiating. Burial will be in the Coulter Cemetery at
Coulter, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 - 8 p.m. at Sietsema
Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.
Donald was born Nov. 16, 1928 in Scarville, Iowa, a son of Gertrude and Anton
Severson. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Scarville, Iowa. He graduated from Scarville High School in 1946.
On May 29, 1948 he married Ruth VanKamen of Lake Mills, Iowa at the Methodist
Church in Lake Mills. He worked at the elevator at Scarville for 12 years before
moving to Coulter, Iowa in 1958, where he managed the elevator there for 21
years. He was a member of the town council at Scarville and Coulter, church
council in Latimer, President of the Community Club at Coulter, and had been a
board member of the Iowa Feed and Grain Association. He was a manager of the
Farmers Coop at Otley Iowa for three years, and manager of the Forest City, Iowa
Coop for over seven years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Fishers, Ind.; two daughters, Linda Freie
of Lincoln, Neb. and Dorothy Ytzen of Carmel, Ind.; a son, Tom Severson of
Bloomington Ill.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one sister,
Sedell Ofstedal of Grand Meadow, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Duane Albert Cohrs, 74, Ventura, died Monday,
April 25, 2005 at his home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 28,
10 a.m., at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Daird Korth.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, 5 - 7 p.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel. A second visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Atlantic,
Iowa, Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m. Interment will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the
Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic with the Rev. Daird Korth officiating. Memorials
may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Muse-Norris Hospice of North Iowa.
Duane was born Dec. 1, 1930 in Honey Creek, Iowa, the son of Claus John and
Adele (Witt) Cohrs. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1948. Duane
married Lorraine Readinger on Dec. 31, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church, Atlantic,
and to this union five children were born. Duane farmed for 20 years prior to
working for the DOT for 23 years. They moved to Clear Lake in June of 1974.
After retiring, he worked part-time for Yohn Ready Mix. He loved to go camping
and fishing. Duane was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura.
Duane is survived by his wife, Lorraine Cohrs, Ventura; four children, Pamela
Nielsen and her husband, Ray, Avoca, Iowa, Douglas Cohrs and his wife, Debra,
Mason City, Julie Zwald and her husband, Brian, Farmington, Minn. and Kristie
Christians and her husband, David, Garner, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Eric Taylor
and his wife, Lynne, Kyra Cohrs, Michele Freeman and her husband, Ed, Ryan
Nielsen and his wife, Beth, Teri Jo Cohrs, Andrew Cohrs and his fiancé, Amanda,
Nicholas Cohrs, Kristyn Maciej and her husband, Tony and Nina Zwald, Aaron
Christians and Alicia Christians; 14 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Riley, Jakob,
Jarret, Hannah, Harli, Brooklyn, Alexis, Allysa, McKenna, Morgan, Kylie,
Jefferson and Joslyn.
Duane was preceded in death by his son, Dann Cohrs on April 4, 2005; his father
and mother; three brothers, Harlan, Harold and John; three sisters-in-law, Jeri,
Barbara and Harriet and his nephew, Steve.
