Scot Colby
SPC. Dustin Scot Colby, 20, of 513 12th Ave. N.
Clear Lake, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 in a semi-tractor rollover accident near
Camp Dodge.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, 3 p.m., Sept. 1, at the Iowa National Guard
Armory, 1160 19th St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa, with Chaplain Luder officiating.
Interment will be in the Kensett Cemetery, Kensett, Iowa with military honors by
the Iowa National Guard. Family suggests memorials to SPC. Dustin Scot Colby
memorial fund.
Dustin was born Sept. 2, 1983, in Mason City, the son of Jerry Colby and Misti
Slocum. He attended school in Mason City, Northwood, Iowa and then moved to
Albuquerque. N.M., where he graduated from Sandia High School in 2002. Dustin
moved back to Clear Lake after high school and enlisted in the Iowa Army
National Guard. He was mobilizing to Ft. Sill, Okla. to serve in the Middle
East, Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dustin was well known for his favorite phrase "Get Er Done." He enjoyed riding
motorcycles, jet skiing, water skiing, hunting, fishing, rock climbing, downhill
skiing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Mason
City Baptist Church and Iowa Army National Guard.
Dustin will be sadly missed by his father, Jerry Colby, Northwood; mother, Misti
Thoe and her husband, Lance, Clear Lake; two brothers, Steven and Seth; four
sisters Miquela, Danielle, Megan and Nicole; maternal grandparents, Frank and
Mary Lou Wood, Mason City, Gary and Kathy Slocum, Waterloo, Iowa, Stan Grell,
Clear Lake, Bev and Don Girardot, Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Kim and Linda Dockwell,
Ventura, Larry Thoe, Fairmont, Minn.; maternal great-grandfather, Harold
Kothenbeutel, Sheffield, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Dave and Darlene Colby,
Manly, Iowa; a special friend, Heather Schulze, Clear Lake, and several aunts,
uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

"DuWayne" Haugen
Wallace "DuWayne" Haugen, 71, of Clear Lake,
died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with Pastor Audrey
Westendorf Young officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with
military graveside honors by the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the chapel.
Wallace "DuWayne" Haugen was born on Dec. 9, 1932, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa,
the son of Wallie and Ruth Idelle (Garlock) Haugen. He attended and received
his education in the Fertile and Clear Lake School System. DuWayne was inducted
into the U.S. Army on Jan. 5, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was stationed with
the 96th Field Artillery Battalion and served in the Korean Conflict until his
honorable discharge on Oct. 20, 1954, at Ft. Carson, Colo. After his honorable
discharge, DuWayne worked for a tiling company in Fertile, Iowa and for Zeidler
Concrete Products in Clear Lake. He was united in marriage to Cleta Sliger on
July 8, 1955, in Blairstown, Iowa. After their marriage, he worked for Bob
Nichol's Phillip 66 station in Clear Lake. In 1966 he began working as a
mechanic for Dahlen Transportation Company and worked there for 25 years until
his retirement. After his retirement he worked at a fishing resort in Canada.
He enjoyed fishing and camping in Canada.
He was a member of the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cleta Haugen, of Clear Lake; a daughter,
Christine Zieman, of Goodell, Iowa; two grandchildren, Beth Zieman of Thornton,
Iowa and her fiancé, Dane Holmgaard, of Ackley, Iowa, and Jason Zieman of
Goodell; two brothers, Keith Haugen and his wife, Cathy, of Clear Lake, and
Myron Haugen and his wife, Pat, of Clear Lake; three brothers-in-law, Jim Sliger
and his wife, Nancy, of Rockford, Iowa, Roger Gealow and his wife, Beverly, of
Story City, Iowa, and Robert Sliger and his wife, Sandy, of Mason City; several
nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Deloris Haugen and two
brothers, Dale and Mark Haugen.

Victor J. Miller
Victor J. Miller, 73, of 620 Briarstone Dr.,
Apt. 31, Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 at Mercy Medical
Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Bethlehem
Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware, Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz,
officiating. Following cremation, inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery,
Mason City, where a flag folding ceremony will be conducted by members of Mason
City Veteran's Memorial Association.
Memorials may be given to the Victor J. Miller Memorial Fund.
Victor J. Miller was born April 8, 1931 in Stacyville, Iowa, a son of Hubert and
Rena (Michels) Miller. Victor was raised on a farm near Stacyville and received
his education in the Stacyville area. He served in the US Army during the Korean
War as an artillery specialist.
He married Norma Jean Feldt on April 8, 1952 at Osage, Iowa. Norma Jean preceded
him in death in 1985.
Victor worked at Jacob E. Decker/Armour Foods for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He
later served as a maintenance supervisor at the IOOF Home, Mason City for four
years.
Victor married Marie G. Coe on May 23, 1986 at Mason City.
He enjoyed golfing, dancing, playing cards, picture jigsaw puzzles, and reading.
Victor and Marie enjoyed spending several winters in McAllen, Texas.
He held several memberships, including Fellowship Club and Life Membership in
the VFW and he served as an Elder at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church for many
years.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Miller, Mason City; daughters, Karen (Michael)
Woodcock, Rochester, Minn., Sandi Cates, Clear Lake, Janet Sampson, Mason City;
one step daughter, Suzanne (Ron) Minert, Clear Lake; four grandchildren,
Jennifer Sampson, Russ Sampson, Jason Cates, and Joey Cates; six
step-grandchildren, Deborah (Mike) Matarrozo, Robert Coe and wife (Allison),
Abby (Rob) Botham, Travis Bailey, Ryan Bailey, and Matt Bailey; six step-great
grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Mayer, Austin, Minn. and Magdaline (Duane)
Judd , Albert Lea, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Anna Miller, Austin, Minn.,
Mary Ellen Miller, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma Jean; brothers, Ivan
and Leo, step brother, Clarence, and a stepson, James D. Coe.

Randy Dean Bryan
Randy Dean Bryan, 48, of 11 South 19th St, Clear
Lake, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Duncan Heights Care Center, Garner, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 3, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Randy Bryan Memorial Fund.
Randy was born Aug. 16, 1956, the son of Roger and Janice (Zahner) Bryan at
Webster City, Iowa. After high school Randy worked for the Clear Lake Bakery.
He attended N.I.A.A.C., and graduated with a degree in drafting. Randy worked
as a draftsman for Andrews Prestress Concrete, Clear Lake and Seabee Corp,
Hampton, Iowa. He also drove truck for Ruan and Iowa Motor Transport, Garner.
Randy married Debbie Edgar on July 3, 1981 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling, collecting old coins, playing cards, cribbage, and
being on the computer. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Randy is survived by his wife, Debbie Bryan, Clear Lake; two daughters, Heather
Sheahan and Andrea Bryan, both of Clear Lake; two granddaughters, Mackenzie and
Morgan Sheahan, Clear Lake; his father Roger Bryan, Gowrie, Iowa; two brothers,
Ivan (YeVonne) Bryan, Jewell, Iowa; Jim (Wendy) Bryan, Webster City, Iowa; a
sister, Jenny David of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; mother-in-law, Bonnie Edgar,
Clear Lake, and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents, and father-in-law, Darrell
Edgar.

Marie E. Mourlam
Marie E. Mourlam, 93, of 110 S. 12th St., Clear
Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Ward Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with Richard L. Scott, Lay Assistant at Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake. Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.
Marie was born Aug. 23, 1911 in Kensett, Iowa the daughter of Martin and Anna
Hildahl Myhre. She attended school in Kensett.
Marie worked in Manly, Iowa and later at a laundromat in Mason City. She worked
as a waitress at the Surf Ballroom for over 20 years and at E.F. Johnson in
Clear Lake.
Marie married Clifford Mourlam on Aug. 24, 1950 in Nevada, Iowa. She enjoyed
dancing and was a very good cook.
Marie is survived by her husband, Clifford, Clear Lake; two sisters, Mabel Welch
and her husband, Roy and Agnes Reese, both of Northwood, Iowa and one brother,
Harry Myhre and his wife, Dorothy, Hanlontown, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Elmer, Oliver and
Stanley Myhre and one son, Richard Anderson.

Lloyd Robert Loux
Lloyd Robert Loux, 84, of Clear Lake, died Sept.
2, 2004 at Apache Junction Nursing Home, Apache Junction, Az.
Funeral service were held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,
Clear Lake, with Lay Assistant Richard L. Scott of Zion Lutheran Church
officiating. Burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Lloyd Robert Loux was born Dec. 31, 1919 in Wall Lake Township, Wright County,
the son of John R. and Mary (Carpenter) Loux.
Lloyd attended school in Lake Township School in Wright County. He married
Shirley (Lindsey) Loux on July 14, 1940. To this union two children were born.
They lived and farmed in Woolstock, Iowa. He worked as a parts man for Howie
Implement in Garner for 12 years. He retired in 1983 from Iowa Mold and Tool in
Garner.
Lloyd enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and remodeling houses, his greatest love is
his family.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Miller, Iowa. He also attended Zion
Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. He especially enjoyed church in the park.
He is survived by wife, Shirley Loux, Clear Lake; children, Dennis and his wife,
Virginia "Tootie" Loux, Clear Lake, Diane and her husband, Willard Netland,
Mesa; grandchildren, Valerie and her husband, John Burtness, Clear Lake, Vonnie
and her husband, Scott Amosson, Clear Lake, Dino Loux and his wife, Dawn, Clear
Lake, Jeanne Helling and her husband, Jerry Hanson, Dubuque, Iowa, Jodi and her
husband, Ron Claydon, of Mesa, Az., Tammy and her husband, Kris Burckhard, Mesa;
great-grandchildren, Whitney and Colby Dye, Chase and Cameron Burtness, Jade and

of West University, Texas died Sat. Sept. 5, 2004. Services are pending at the

Sharon S. Wigton
Sharon S. Wigton, 65, formerly of Des Moines,
Iowa, passed away Sept. 8, 2004
at home in Hot Springs Village, Ark. A memorial gathering, with her family
present, will be held 3-5p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at Westover Funeral Home.
Sharon was born the daughter of DeWitt Sarber and LaVonne Mayland on Oct.
12, 1938 in Belmond, Iowa. She was a graduate of Kanawha High School and
attended the University of Iowa and Upper Iowa University. She married George
Eliason in 1958. On March 12, 1976 she was married to Roger Wigton and they
lived in Clear Lake until moving to Des Moines in 1979. They retired to Hot
Springs Village in 1998.
Sharon enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, their summer home at Diamond Head
Lake and her cat, Precious. With her great passion for playing bridge, she
earned her Life's Masters and played at the Bridge House in West Des Moines for
over 17 years.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Omar Mayland and her
first husband, George.
She is survived by her husband, Roger, of Hot Springs Village; son, Paul Eliason,
of Mason City; daughter, Dorcey Mosher and her husband, Monte, of Des Moines;
step children, Laura Staley (Tom Hartwig) of Garner, Iowa, Dave Wigton, of
Phoenix, Az. and Dan Wigton, of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Amy, Rich
(Crystal), Tora, Shannon, Jennifer, Brooke, Amanda, Samantha, Dillon and
Dave and great-granddaughter, Taylor.

Ned (Joey, Joe) Joseph Wicker III
Ned "Joey, Joe" Joseph Wicker III, 39, of West
University Place, Texas, passed away at his home on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 13, at the Seventh Day Adventist
Church, Mason City with Pastor Mark Luckish officiating. Interment was at the
Clear Lake Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to The Ned "Joe" Wicker III

Ned was born Aug. 3, 1965 the son of Ned A. and Vera (Lovelace) Wicker Jr. at
Detroit, Mich. Ned was a graduate of Clear Lake High School and the University
of Iowa, and also attended the University of Nebraska. He worked at the Texas
A&M University of Bioscience and Technology and was working towards his PhD. He
was a Research Associate and acting field director of a large molecular biology
group dedicated to uncovering the secrets of folic acid as a preventative
measure against selected birth defects.
Ned was a world traveler, and enjoyed snow skiing, motorcycling, scuba diving
and flying airplanes and helicopters. He was a member of the American Ski
Patrol Association, Associated Pilots of Iowa, and the Eastern Iowa Ski Club.
Ned is survived by his parents, Ned and Vera Wicker, Clear Lake; two sisters,
Vera Michelle Walker and her husband, Sam, Riverside, Calif. and Monica
Minunette Wicker, Riverside; one brother, Keith Werner Wicker and his wife,
Michelle, Midland Park, N.J.; a treasured friend, Motoko Kono, Kacoshima City,
Japan; special friends, Don and Katherine Hendricks, Clear Lake; several aunts
and uncles; his co-workers and many friends, and his special pets, Zoe and
Venus.

Arthur Brattrud
Gaylord Arthur Brattrud, 91, of 710 N 6th St,
Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Christian Church, Clear
Lake. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Gaylord was born Dec. 17, 1912, at Hanlontown, Iowa the son of George and Agnes
(Overbye) Brattrud. Gaylord attended school at Hanlontown and farmed with his
dad. Gaylord hoboed his way to Washington State to work in the orchards. He
sold magazines throughout the United States. Gaylord entered the service during
World War II and returned to Hanlontown following his discharge. Gaylord
married Shirley Klang on Nov. 11, 1951 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
He worked for the Great Lakes then William's Brothers Pipeline for 36 years,
retiring in 1974. Gaylord enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and listening to
old time music. He was a real handyman. He loved his family and having them
around. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
Gaylord is survived by his wife, Shirley Brattrud; three children, Shelley
(Dennis) Garlock; Jeffrey (Cindy) Brattrud, and Scott (Karo) Brattrud, all of
Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Mikki Bergman of Charles City, Iowa, Erik
(Jessica) Bergman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Zack McCauley of Clear Lake, Dain Mann,
Ventura, Iowa, Jenna Brattrud and Ryan Brattrud both of Clear Lake; one
great-grandson, Cayden Brager of Ventura, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kermeth, Orville and
Lawrence Brattrud, and a sister, Florence Kallheim.

Phillip G. Nei
Phillip G. Nei, 60, of 601 12th Ave. N., Clear
Lake, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason
City, Iowa. Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Daird Korth of Redeemer Lutheran Church,
Ventura, Iowa officiating. Following the service he was cremated with
inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family suggests memorials to
Hospice of North Iowa.
Phillip was born July 1, 1944 in Chicago, Ill. the son of George and LaVina
(Johnson) Nei. He attended school in Park Ridge, Ill. Following high school he
served in the United States Navy. After the service he worked for a printing
company in Minneapolis, Minn., then later drove taxi in Clear Lake and worked at
the Clear Lake Bakery.
Phillip was a very loving and caring son and was a great caregiver for his
parents. He enjoyed playing cards and listening to the Cubs games.
Phillip will be sadly missed by his mother, LaVina Nei, Clear Lake; his uncles
and aunts, Harlan and Audrey Johnson, Garner, Iowa, Edward and Vivian Johnson,
Yukon, Okla., Marjorie Meyer, Gurnee, Ill., Dorothy Nei, Clearwater, Fla. and
Robert Johnson, Sierra Vista, Az.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Ivan D. Taylor
Ivan D. Taylor, 80, of 7 Marflow St., Ventura, Iowa, died
Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 at Mercy Hospital North Iowa.
Funeral services and a celebration of the life of Ivan were held Monday,
September 13, at the First United Methodist Church, Mason City. Ivan was
cremated following the services at Cremation Services of North Iowa. Those
planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Radio
and Music Ministries at the First United Methodist Church of Mason City.
Ivan Dale Taylor was born July 12, 1924, the youngest of five children to
Harrison and Elsa (Stoltenberg) Taylor in Hayfield, Iowa. He graduated from
Hayfield High School in 1941, attended Iowa State University, joining the Sigma
Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and graduated with degrees in General and Aeronautical
Engineering in 1947. While at ISU, he answered the call to military service for
WW II and served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.
Ivan was united in marriage to Gloria Guingrich on May 6, 1950 at the Wauwatosa
Methodist Church in Wauwatosa, Wis. A blind date led to 54 wonderful years
together raising six children and enjoying 20 grandchildren. Ivan started his
career as a salesman for the Mason City Brick and Tile, working in southwest
Wisconsin, then to Spencer in northwest Iowa. He was transferred to the office
in Mason City in 1952 and to Ottumwa, Iowa in 1953. In 1958, they moved to
Carlisle, Iowa where he purchased an interest in the Carlisle Brick and Tile Co.
In 1967, he moved the family to Waterloo, Iowa and in 1971 he entered the
insurance business with Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa. After being
offered management of the Mason City agency, they returned to Mason City in
1977. Ivan loved his work and moved on to Clear Lake and finally to Ventura,
retiring from the insurance industry after 32 years.
Ivan loved people and enjoyed being active in community and professional
organizations and spent years working with the Boy Scouts while his sons were
involved. His church was a very important part of his life and he took on many
leadership roles there, as well as teaching Sunday school for many years. He
provided a strong Christian foundation for all of his children and
grandchildren.
Ivan's interests were many and varied. A devoted family man, he enjoyed
woodworking, making a baby cradle for each of his children's families. A
twinkling eye and a great sense of humor were his trademark when he played
cribbage, "500", or board games with his family. He also enjoyed water
activities, water-skiing into his early 70's, much to the dismay of Gloria. The
Iowa State Cyclones had a dedicated alumnus in Ivan, who relished the
opportunity to fly the Cyclone Banner from his home. When Gloria's annual lefse
baking project rolled around, Ivan was always an able and "nibbling" assistant.
To refresh his spirit, Ivan often spent time in the vegetable and flower
gardens. Above all, Ivan enjoyed other people and had a quick wit; his
good-hearted bantering demonstrated how much he enjoyed life.
Those thankful in sharing Ivan's life include his wife Gloria, Ventura; four
daughters, Pamela and husband, Gary Schmidt, Tucson, Az., Peggy and husband,
Mark Baldwin, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Patricia and husband, Brett Keller, Vista,
Calif., Penny and husband, Doug Sturges, Rockwell; two sons, Thomas and wife,
Else Taylor, Ventura, Timothy and wife, Denise Taylor, Coppell, Texas; 20
grandchildren, Jeffrey Schmidt, Sarah and Emily Fergemann, Amy and Julie
Baldwin, Jonathan, Rebekah, Melissa, Sarah, and Amanda Keller, Joshua, Jeremy,
Jordan Sturges, Jesse, Jessica, and Jacob Taylor, Christian, Matthew, Maria and
Grace Taylor; one brother, Neil and wife, Helen Taylor, Vancouver, Wash.; many
nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bernice Sellers, and two
brothers, Merle and Owen Taylor.

Bruce Edwin Snow
Bruce Edwin Snow, 68, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 at Kaiser Hospital in San
Diego, Calif. Bruce had been battling with Leukemia, Diabetes and heart disease.
Funeral services were held at the Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary, 4300
Imperial Ave., San Diego, on Friday, Sept. 24.
Bruce was born June 8, 1936 in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the son of Jean and Fern
(Wilkinson) Snow. At age nine he moved with his family to Clear Lake, was raised
there and went to school at Baker's Country School, Lake No. 4, then Clear Lake
High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in February of 1956. He
served a full military service until retiring in 1976. Bruce served out of the
West Pac having home base at San Diego. Following his service retirement, he
worked for the Avecado Elementary School in El Cajon for 14 years where he
enjoyed all the elementary kids in that area.
Surviving Bruce is his wife, Muriel (Flarirty); daughter, Michelle and Russell
Alexander, Sr., of Santee; son, Bruce E. Jr., and Juliana (Bank) Snow of El
Cajon; four grandchildren: Danny King, Jr., Bruce Snow III, Jean Snow, and
Jessica Snow, as well as step-grandchildren, Melanie (Alexander) Hiser and
Russell Alexander, Jr.; one great-granddaughter; one step-great-granddaughter
and one step-grandson; his mother, Fern Snow Zinser, of Clear Lake; brothers,
David and Judith (Dodd) of Anchorage, Ak.; Larry, of Clear Lake; Harlan and
Gayle (Hakes), of Clear Lake and many nieces and nephews.
His father, Jean E. Snow, and two granddaughters, Mandy M. King and Melissa M.
King, preceded him in death.

Louise M. Hefty
Louise M. Hefty, 91, of 11 S. 9th St., Clear
Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City, Iowa. Services were held Monday, Sept. 27, at Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Lay Assistant Richard Scott officiating.
Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Louise
M. Hefty memorial fund.
Louise was born May 25, 1913, one of twin daughters to Herman and Barbara
(Deutsch) Bintz at Minden, Neb. She graduated from South High School, Omaha,
Nebraska.
Louise married Paul Hefty in 1941 at Mound, Neb. They lived in Nebraska and
California. Following her husband's death in 1950 she moved to Clear Lake. She
worked for the Clear Lake School system in the cafeteria for 28 years, retiring
in 1978.
She enjoyed cooking, visiting with people, walking and going out to eat.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Earl Hefty, Clear Lake; five grandchildren,
Kristin Poss and her husband, Mike, Carrollton, Ga., Brent Hefty, Dunwoody, Ga.,
Aaron Hefty, Spring Dale, Ark., David Hefty and his wife, Danette, Rapid City,
S.D., and Darin Hefty, Federal Way, Wash.; five great-grandchildren;
daughter-in-law, Jeannie Hefty, Conrad, Iowa and her children, Dawn Skellenger
and her husband, Mitch, and Stephen Neff; a nephew, Loren Wilcox and his wife,
Jane, Henderson, Nev. and a niece, Janelle Sargent and her husband, Dale, and
her mother, Nel Wilcox, Clear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Paul Hefty;
great-grandson, Dayne Hefty, and her twin sister, Lucille Wilcox.

Warren S.
Nitzschke
Warren S. Nitzschke, 83, was lovingly welcomed
into the arms of Jesus when he died peacefully at his home on Sunday, September
26, 2004 from natural causes.
Warren Scott Nitzschke was born Nov. 16, 1920 the son of Otto and Eda (Scott)
Nitzschke in Remsen, Iowa.
He was proud to serve his country during Word War II. He enlisted Nov. 25, 1942
and was honorably discharged Dec. 1, 1945. During this time he fought in the
Battle of the Bulge under General Patton.
He married Marie Gutenkauf on June 2, 1947 at Holy Name Rectory in Marcus, Iowa.
To this union seven daughters were born.
Warren established the Nitzschke Insurance Agency in his home in 1957 along with
his wife, Marie. They sold the business in 1979. Warren also worked for the
Illinois Central Gulf Railroad as a day chief operator for 35 years until he
retired 1981. Warren volunteered his time in the Gophers and Gopherettes
Volunteer Group in group homes for Exceptional Persons, Inc. for 17 years. He
was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo, Iowa.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marie, and their daughters and
families: Marilyn and Dave Lamoreux of Rockford, Ill., Anita Nitzschke, Patricia
Eilders, Bea Spear of Waterloo, Iowa, Mary and Jeff Stealy of Clear Lake, Terese
and Jim Evans of Waterloo and Kathy and Perry Patrick of Mason City, Iowa; his
brother, Lynn (Patty) Nitzschke, of Springfield, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and
foster granddaughter, Michelle Lamoreux, of Rockford, Ill., Scott (Teala)
Lamoreux of Door County, Wis., Dr. Loan (Houng) Nyugen, Jennifer (Mark) Krinhop,
of Lakeville, Minn., Heather (Tom) Morin of Eden Prairie, Minn., Teresa (Casey)
Schlichting, of Mason City, Andrea Eilders, of Evansdale, Iowa, Samantha and
Clayton Spear, of Waterloo, Iowa, Perry Patrick Jr., of Mason City, Iowa, Donnie
Patrick, of Wichita Falls, Texas and Tim Patrick, of Farmers Branch, Texas; five
great-grandchildren, Max, Sam and Timothy Krinhop, Ella Morin and Kyler Patrick
and a special neighbor granddaughter, Tessa Swacker
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Andrew; a
great-grandson, Joseph Patrick Krinhop, and a son-in-law, David Eilders.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with
burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by
American Legion Post #138 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #1623. Friends may
call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service,
West Ridgeway,Waterloo, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil.
Friends may also call an hour prior to the service at the church.
Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Exceptional
Persons.

Berniece
Viola Lenning
Berniece Viola Lenning, 89, of 215 S.13th St.,
Clear Lake, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit, Mason City, Iowa. It was Berniece's request that she be cremated. A
graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in her
name for Hospice of North Iowa.
Berniece was born Feb. 10, 1915 the daughter of James and Ella (Knoll) Kurtz, at
Erie, Ill. Berniece was the youngest of 12 brothers and sisters. At an early age
they moved to Belmond, Iowa, and she attended school in Belmond. From there they
moved to Garner, Iowa. After the death of her father they moved to Clear Lake.
Berniece married Clarence Lenning on Aug. 14, 1933, in Albert Lea, Minn., and of
this union a daughter, Marion, was born.
Berniece is survived by her granddaughter, Jody Grau, Bemidji, Minn.; two
great-grandsons, Joshua and Gerald Almendinger, Bemidji, Minn.; six nieces,
Beverly Elder, Mason City, Betty Fox, Britt, Mary Ann (Louis) Formanek, Phoenix,
Az., Velma Miller, Des Moines, Dorothy (Ed) Scheffel, Mason City and Karen
Bender, Athens, Ala.; four nephews, Don (Mary) Best, Rockwell, Iowa, William (LeeAnn)
Kurtz, Klemme, Iowa, James (Sally) Zisser,Janesville, Wis. and Duane (Kay)
Tideback, Sun Valley, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence, on March 20, 1993;
daughter, Marion Grau; son-in-law, Gerald Grau; four brothers and seven sisters.
