Debra J. (DuClos) Sawtelle

Debra J. (DuClos) Sawtelle, 49, Rockford, Ill., died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, of a lengthy battle with cancer. 
Debra was born Sept., 6, 1955 to Lewis and Doris (Maxine) DuClos.  She graduated from Ventura High School in 1973.  Debbi married Dave Sawtelle in September 1978, and to that union two sons were born. 
Debbi is survived by two sons, Bernard (B.J.) and Lucas Sawtelle; twin grandsons, Deegan and Devon Sawtelle, all of Rockford; her mother, Maxine DuClos, Clear Lake; two sisters, Diane DuClos and Doreen Pasieka, both of Clear Lake; her fiancé, Mark Rasmussen and special friend, Carol Bradley, Rockford; nieces, Shannon, Sara and Rachel DuClos, Clear Lake and Jennifer Pasieka, Mystic, Conn.; nephew, Chris DuClos; great niece, Mikah DuClos; great-nephew, Jorden DuClos, all of Clear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis; brother, David DuClos and paternal and maternal grandparents.
Memorial services will be held in Rockford at a later date.  Any memorials should be sent to the Debra Sawtelle Memorial Fund, 2941 9th St., Rockford, IL 61109

Leora H. Nye 

Leora H. Nye, 92, Clear Lake, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.  A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 205 W. 10th Ave N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thom Christian officiating.  Visitation will be at 10 a.m. preceding the service.  Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.  Memorials may be given to the Leora H. Nye Memorial Fund.
Leora was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Ella (Olson) Hanson.  Leora graduated from Decorah High School in 1929.  She worked at Penney's as a bookkeeper in Decorah.  She married Howard J. Nye June 19, 1937 in Clear Lake.  They lived in Tripoli, Iowa until they moved back to Clear Lake in 1939.  She worked at Hansen's,  Imperial Seed Co, Graham's Dept. Store and did alterations for Verna's Fashion Shoppe.  She made caps and gowns for P.T. Castle Co.  She was the resident manager for Lakeland Apartments for 15 months.  She went to be a resident of Oakwood Care Center in 2001. 
Leora loved crocheting, knitting, watching her soap opera on TV and shopping.  She was a great mom and grandmother; her actions spoke louder than her words.  Leora was a member of the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake.
Leora is survived by three children, Karen Nye, Mason City, Amy Snow and her husband, Dwight, Fridley, Minn. and Kevin Nye, Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Eric Meyer and his wife, Jennifer, Farmington, Minn., Rebecca Snow Whitaker and her husband, Mike, Phoenix, Az., Curtis Snow and Crysten Snow, Fridley, Casey Nye, Fayette, Iowa and Cory Nye, Clear Lake; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Ethan Meyer. 
Leora was preceded in death by her parents and husband.  Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Audrey Jean Tomke 

Audrey Jean Tomke, 84, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at the Pella Region Health Center, Pella, Iowa.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1 p.m.,  at the St. John's Cemetery, Clarion, Iowa with the Rev. David Beckman officiating.  Memorials made be made to the Audrey Jean  Tomke Memorial Fund.
Audrey was born Jan. 7, 1920 at Clarion, the daughter of Merle and Alice (Williams) Wood.  She attended Clarion schools and graduated in 1938.  Audrey married Stanley Tomke in June 1942 in Clarion.  After her husband returned from the service in the military Audrey and Stan lived in Rockwell, Iowa and later moved to Clear Lake.  After their retirement they spent winter months in Florida. 
Audrey is survived by her son, Craig Tomke and his wife, Karen, Hayden, Colo.; three granddaughters, Valerie Jean Boehlje and her husband, Chad, Pella, Kathleen Anne Krumm and her husband, Michael, San Jose, Calif. and Krista Tomke, Hayden, Colo.; her sister, Phyllis Rohle and her husband, Richard of Waterloo, Iowa.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stan on Sept 29, 2000 and one brother, Bud Wood.

Cindy M. Rabe 

Cindy M. Rabe, 52, a lifelong resident of the Belmond, Iowa area, and former executive director of the Belmond Area Chamber of Commerce, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at the Belmond Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 3rd Ave. N.E., Belmond. Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor's choice.

Holger Jorgensen

Holger Jorgensen, 97, Ventura, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.  A private  graveside service will be held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. 
Holger was born Jan. 3, 1907 in Denmark, the son of Peder and Marie Jorgensen. 
Holger farmed for over 65 years in the Ventura area, having arrived in this country from Denmark in 1925. 
Holger is survived by great nieces and great grandnieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. 
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Grace Frampton 

Elsie Grace Frampton, 78, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. 
Graveside inurnment services were held Tuesday, Oct. 12, at the Clear Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. Jan R. Burnett of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake officiating. 
According to her wishes her body was cremated.
The family of Elsie Grace Frampton has requested that memorial contributions be made to Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City in her memory.
Elsie Grace Frampton was born on April 21, 1926, in West Sand Lake, N. Y. the daughter of Jack and Grace (Rogers) Walsh.  Elsie graduated from North High School in Des Moines, Iowa, and also graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.  After completing her schooling, she worked in Ankeny, Iowa at the Ammunitions Ordinance Factory during World War II. After the war she worked at an insurance company in Des Moines.  She was united in marriage to James Frampton on Aug. 8, 1946, in Boone, Iowa.  After their marriage they lived in Boone, where Elsie worked for Montgomery Wards, until 1960 when the family moved to Oregon.  Elsie and her husband, James, operated a bowling alley and night club in Roseberg, Ore. for four years before moving to Clear Lake in 1964.  After moving to Clear Lake, Elsie worked for Land of Lakes in Mason City in the office until her retirement in 1980.
Elsie was an avid bowler. She loved her family; her dog, Little Lady, and collecting thimbles.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Boone, Iowa.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, James Frampton, of Clear Lake; children, Kerry James and his wife, Dee, (Dorothy) Frampton, of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., Kenneth John Frampton and his wife, Deborah, of Clear Lake, and Kathy Jean Astor and her husband, Bill, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Jamie, Kelly, Kerry James Frampton; step-granddaughter, Jamie Jo Frampton, Brandon Frampton and his wife, Jenny, David Frampton, and Ethan Astor, as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Darrell L. Hier 

Darrell L. Hier, 73, of 114 N. 20th St, Clear Lake, went home to his Lord on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct.18, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Derik Yarian officiating.  Military honors will be by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  Inurnment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye, Minn., on Friday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the Darrell Hier Memorial Fund.
Darrell was born Sept. 9, 1931 to La Forest and Ada (Evenson) Hier, in Springfield, Minn. 
He graduated from Springfield High School in 1949.  After graduation, he attended Mankato State College for one year. He enlisted in the Navy, spending most of that time in the Panama Canal Zone. Following his discharge from the Navy he attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in industrial engineering in December of 1959.  Upon his graduation from college, he became the general supervisor for Del Monte Packing Company in Arlington, Wis.  Darrell received a $2,000 reward from the Del Monte Packing Corporation for his cost saving suggestion of brine use.  Darrell retired in 1989.
In May of 1960 Darrell married Marion Sellner in the St. Mary's rectory in Sleepy Eye, Minn.  They made their home in Portage, Wis.  Darrell and Marion were both honored as outstanding citizens of Portage.  In cooperation with the Portage Police Department, they started the Teddy Bear Program for abused children and were instrumental in initiating finger printing for children's safety. Darrell was financial chairman for the United Methodist Church in Portage for 40 years, and was involved with many other leadership programs in the church.  Darrell was active in sports and was an avid bowler. Marion died in a car accident in December of 1996.
Darrell married Elizabeth von Fischer Martin, on March 18, 2000. Darrell was a blessing to all, especially his wife and children. He never refused a request to help out where there was a need.  He was active in the Noon Lions Club, SALT, was a member of the Clear Lake VFW and was Senior Center Vice President. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.  He participated in the Senior Choir, Elderberries, was a financial counter assistant, belonged to the Wednesday Morning Bible Breakfast and the Men's Night Bible Study Group.
Darrell loved to play golf; you could find him out there, even in the rain.  His greatest joy was becoming a father and grandfather.  He spent many happy hours attending family celebrations and his grandchildren's activities.  Darrell enjoyed his animal friends and they will miss his attention.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Hier, of Clear Lake; three children Tim (Sherry) Becker, of Mason City, Iowa, Cynthia (Randy) Reid  and Dan (Julie) Becker, both of Clear Lake; two brothers, Percy (Marjorie) Hier of Bettendorf, Iowa and the Rev. Dennis (Jan) Hier, of Willmar, Minn.; a sister, Dorothy (Gene) Ostrom, of Rochester, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Ben, Emily and Zach Becker, Jacob, Elizabeth, and Elijah Reid, and Eric, Megan and Leah Becker; nieces and nephews David (Sandy) Hier, Kathy Hier, Karna (Michael) Loyland, Sarah (Geoffrey) Nelson, Nate (Rachel) Hier, Chris (Tim) Cass, and Karis Hier; his first wife's sister, Lorraine Roiger, Sleepy Eye, Minn. and her children, Christi (Phil) Hanson and their daughter, Erica, Vicki (Russ) Schroepfer and their foster sons, Bobby, Mike and others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and infant grandson, Joshua Reid.

Harold Richard Skilbred 

Harold Richard Skilbred, 78, of 102 Iowa St., Hanlontown, Iowa died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Grace Lutheran Church, 302 East 4th Street, Hanlontown, with the Rev. Kris Snyder officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of Clear Lake V.F.W. at the church.  Inurnment will be at a later date. 
Memorials may be directed to Harold Skilbred Memorial Fund.
Harold Richard Skilbred was born Jan. 9, 1926 in Buffalo Center, Iowa the son of John Jr. and Clara Annette (Holland) Skilbred.
He attended Grant #6 country school.  He moved to Oregon where he became a welder and built ships.  He enlisted in the United States Army in April of 1944.  He was honorably discharged October 1947.  He was in the reserves when he was called back for the Korean Conflict.  During WWII he met Karola in Munich, Germany.  They moved back to Forest City, Iowa.  They were united in marriage Nov. 19, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Forest City. To this union four children were born.  He worked for several implements in the area as a mechanic.  He was a bus driver and custodian for North Central School System in Hanlontown.  He retired at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. He enjoyed playing cards and tinkering in his shop.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown, Clear Lake V.F.W., and was a volunteer fireman for Hanlontown Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Karola Skilbred, of Hanlontown; children, Monika and her husband, James Sorenson, of St. Ansgar, Loretta and her husband, Gary Boller, of Blanchard, Okla., Richard and his wife, Bette Skilbred, of Clear Lake, Robin and her husband, Barry Chronister, of Fertile, Iowa; grandchildren, Doug and his wife,Jennifer Sorenson, Cassie and her husband, David Nelson, Joanna and her husband, Brian Southard, Joshua and his wife, Jessie Boller, Jamie Boller, Adrienne Skilbred, Jason Sheahan, Gabe and his wife, Angie Sheahan, Renee and her husband, Derek Gustafson, Keith Schmitz, Danielle Schmitz, Shanda and her husband, Danny Boatright, Aaron Chronister; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Darwin and his wife, Doris Skilbred, of Donna, Texas; a sister, Darlene James, of Mason City; sister-in-law, Traudl and her husband, Heinrich Kiefer, of Munich, Germany, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by parents; brother-in-law, Galen James; two great-grandsons, Tanner Southard and Charlie Gustafson.

Kathryn Lenore Kuchenreuther

Kathryn Lenore Kuchenreuther, 85, of Titonka, Iowa died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004 at the Titonka Care Center.
Memorial service was held Saturday, Oct. 16, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, or donor's choice.
Kathryn Lenore Kuchenreuther was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Titonka, the daughter of William and Lenore (Mitchell) Schram.
Kathryn attended Titonka School System, graduating in 1936.  She attended Iowa State Teachers College.  She taught in a rural school for a short time.  She was united in marriage to Kenneth Swan on Nov. 5, 1939 at the Methodist Church in Titonka. To this union two children were born, Virginia and Douglas.  They operated Swan Funeral Home in Titonka for many years.  They moved to Clear Lake where they operated Swan Motel.  Kenneth Swan died in 1984.
Kathryn was united in marriage to Kenneth Kuchenreuther on Dec. 3, 1987 in Clear Lake.  They lived in Clear Lake until 2000.  When Kathryn's and Kenneth's health began to fail, she moved to Titonka Care Center and he moved to Portage, Mich. to be closer to family.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking and baking. Staying in close contact with her family and being with them also brought her great joy.
She was a life long member of Titonka and Clear Lake United Methodist Churches.  She was an active church member.
She is survived by husband, Kenneth Kuchenreuther, of Portage, Mich.; son, Douglas and his wife, Kay Swan, of Sheridan, Wyo.; stepchildren, Barry and Kenneth Jr. Kuchenreuther, and Chalice Neubauer, all of Portage, and Gayle Hjortaas, of Florida; sister, Harriet Schutter and her husband, Herman, of Mankato, Minn.; brother, Herbert Schram and his wife, Doris, of Geneseo, Ill.; sister, Lois Holcomb and her husband, Reuben, of Swea City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Helen Schram, of Peroia, Az.; son-in-law, Dwight Seaberg, of Wesley, Iowa; grandchildren, Lisa Amesbury and her husband, Dan, Mark Seaberg, Tim Seaberg, Wendy Swan and her husband, Mitch Kaplan, and Mitchell Swan, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Swan; daughter, Virginia Seaberg, and brother, Wilbur Schram.

Ruth Muriel McGowan 

Ruth Muriel McGowan, 87, of the IOOF Home in Mason City, Iowa died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. 
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 18, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. David Frederickson of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, Minn., and Lay Assistant Rev. Richard Scott of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, officiating.  Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. 
The family of Ruth Muriel McGowan has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Ruth Muriel McGowan Memorial Fund, 1995 Apple Ave, Garner, Iowa 50438, in her memory. 
Ruth Muriel (Hein) McGowan was born on March 12, 1917, in Elgin, Minn., the daughter of Theodore Alfred and Anna (Becker) Hein.  She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Elgin, and reaffirmed her faith through confirmation in the Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  Ruth graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1934.  Ruth also attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and Hamilton Business College in Mason City.  After completing her schooling she worked for the Oliver Farm Equipment Company in Charles City.  Ruth moved to Clear Lake, where she met and married Keith McGowan.  After their marriage they owned and operated McGowan Hardware until 1959.  In 1967, Ruth and Keith moved to Appleton, Wis., where they managed a motel before moving to Daytona Beach, Fla. to manage Perry's Ocean Edge Motel until Keith's illness.  Ruth worked at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University until her retirement in 1987.  Ruth moved to Flagler Beach, Fla. and worked part-time for Wolfe Hardware.  She enjoyed meeting people and was very knowledgeable in the hardware business.  In 1995, Ruth moved to Plainview, Minn., to be closer to relatives. 
She belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview where she was very active in Bible study.  She also corrected papers for the fifth and sixth grades at the Immanuel Lutheran School.  It was a thrill for Ruth when the children came to bring the papers and pick them up.  She usually had candy bars.  She leaves behind many dear friends in Plainview.  Ruth moved to the IOOF Home in Mason City in July 2004.  Ruth made many special friends there among the nurses, aides and residents.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Patricia Hoyt and her husband, Robert, of Garner, Iowa, William "Bill" McGowan and his wife, Judi, of Urbandale, Iowa and Theodore "Ted" McGowan and his wife, Pamela, of Huntsville, Ala.; six grandchildren, Keri Allison, Kelli Zimmerman, and Kirk McGowan and his wife, Dana, all of Urbandale, Iowa, Suzanne Copas and her husband, Tim, of Ventura, Traci McGowan (deceased), and Jay McGowan of Huntsville; ten great-grandchildren, Ashley, Austin and Aryn Allison of Urbandale, Mallory, McKenna, Meredith and Mason Zimmerman of Urbandale, Braden and Bryson McGowan of Urbandale, and Krystal Copas of Ventura; a dear cousin, Emogene Evans, of Plainview as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Keith, on April 20, 1979; a granddaughter, Traci McGowan, who died on Jan. 15, 1999, and two sisters, Lois Simpson and Elizabeth Fagan.

Cecil Ernest Ringgenberg

Cecil Ernest Ringgenberg, 84, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Graveside service for Cecil and his wife, Jeanne, who died Feb. 1, 2004, will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Ventura Cemetery with Military Honors by the Clear Lake VFW.  Memorial services for Cecil and Jeanne Ringgenberg will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard officiating.
Cecil was born May 12, 1920, the son of Lloyd and Antha Mae (Shuck) Ringgenberg at Ventura, Iowa.  Cecil attended Ventura Schools and played trumpet in the High School Band.  Cecil joined the Navy in 1942, serving in WWII on a submarine in the Atlantic. He also was in the Korean War and  served in the Pacific stationed off shore near Masan, Korea.
Cecil married Jeanne Fuller on Dec. 8, 1945, at Royal Oak, Mich. Cecil worked in the meat packing department a Decker's, and later for Northwestern Cement as a drill operator.  Cecil enjoyed fishing, Big Band music, his family and especially holiday get-togethers and reunions and the good food.  He also was a private airplane pilot.  Cecil was a lifetime member of the VFW of Clear Lake. 
Cecil is survived by three sisters, Maxine Duclos, Clear Lake, Bertus Daniels and her husband, Bob, Hollandale, Minn. and Almeda Lewis and her husband, Lefty, Mason City; sister-in-law, Leona Kitchen, Traverse City, Mich. and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeannie, on Feb. 1, 2004; a sister, Lucille Winters; niece's, Bonnie Al-Jazaf and Deborah Sawtelle, and a nephew, David Duclos.

LTC (Ret.) Robert Hanneman

LTC (Ret.) Robert Hanneman, 54, of Ocean View, Del., passed away Oct. 14, 2004 from cancer. Funeral services were held Oct. 18 in Ocean View.
Robert is survived by his wife, Roberta; two sons, Scott and Jason Hanneman; daughters-in-law, Darcy and Daylyn Hanneman; six grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hanneman, Madison, S.D., mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Fatland, Clear Lake; a sister, Karen Hemre, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Donald Hanneman, Dell Rapids, S.D. and Charles Hanneman, Tacoma, Wash., as well as many friends.

Harold F. Knop

Harold F. Knop, 76, of Clear Lake, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by his family.
His funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner, Iowa with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Louise Boehnke who accompanied a vocal duet of Brandi Hiscocks and Steve Livingston and congregational hymns. Ushers were Philip Boehnke and Mark Boehnke. Honorary bearers were Leeza Phinney, Mona Mimms, Lee Knop, Jay Knop, Mark Knop, Todd Knop and Chris Knop. Pallbearers were Chad Knop, Ryan Hiscocks, Ben Livingston, Michael Leslie, Jenny Montgomery, Emily Hiscocks, Erin Hiscocks and Kelly Leslie. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or St. John's Lutheran Church Building and Window Fund.
Harold Frank Knop was born the eldest of three boys on May 12, 1928 in rural Garner to Julius and Emma (Rayhons) Knop. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1946 and farmed on the family farm until 1989. Harold married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Miller, on June 25, 1947. Harold enjoyed a very active life. He enjoyed fishing "up north" and in Florida. Harold and Ruth began traveling to Florida in the winter beginning in 1983 and after their retirement from farming they made Florida their winter home. Their Florida family is very special and they have numerous friendships which they enjoy every winter. Harold had a very special relationship with his grandchildren and shared with them his love for fireworks. He spent many nights lighting up the sky on the farm. His family is thankful for the special gift of his love and for sharing his faith in the Lord and passing on that love for the Lord to his family.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ruth, of Clear Lake; four children, Julie (Steve) Livingston of Clear Lake, Greg (Carolyn) Knop of Nevada, Iowa, Denise (Kerry) Hiscocks of Ventura and Karen (Jim) Leslie of Maple Grove, Minn.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Ben (Traci) Livingston and children Jacob, Noah and Drew of Clear Lake, Chad (Brooke) Knop of Nevada, Ryan (Brandi) Hiscocks and children, Riley and Parker of Britt, Iowa, Jenny Montgomery and daughter, Bailey, of Nevada, Emily Hiscocks of Ventura, Erin Hiscocks of Ventura, Michael Leslie of Mankato, Minn. and Kelly Leslie of Maple Grove, Minn.; two brothers, Ronnie (Wilma) Knop of Ventura and Ken (Virginia) Knop of Houston, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cheryl, and his parents. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.

Donna M. Nelson

Donna M. Nelson, 80, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at her home. A Funeral Mass was held Monday, Oct. 25, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan and Msgr. Joseph Slepicka officiating. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Britt, Iowa.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa, Opportunity Village or St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Donna was born October 25, 1923 on a farm outside Britt, the daughter of Marie and Ray Doughan. She was united in marriage to Raymond L. Nelson on Oct. 27, 1942 in Britt. They were married for 61 years.
Donna attended country school in Hancock County. She was employed by Folkmann's Dairy for nine years, Dr. Rae Bieber for 28 years as his dental assistant and Dr. Tom and Lisa Bieber for 14 years. All together she worked for the Bieber family for 42 years. Donna loved to clean homes, garden, and visit with her neighbors. Another love was to make peanut brittle at Christmas and disperse it to family, friends and downtown merchants. Her nickname was the "Peanut Brittle Lady."
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake and Catholic Daughters (CCD). Sbe was an usher and a member of the St. Jude Circle at St. Patrick's. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Clear Lake Women's Club.
Donna will be sadly missed and remembered by her son, Rollan Nelson, Aurora, Colo. and her daughter, Becky Buchholz and her husband, Stephen, of Jefferson City, Mo. She had two grandchildren, Anne and her husband, Kevin Bennett, Savannah, Mo. and Chris Buchholz, Jefferson City, Mo. She is survived by one brother, Allan Doughan and wife, Frances; sisters-in-law, Marcie Doughan, Bonnie Doughan, Grace Nelson, Betty Lou Nelson, and brother-in-law, Don, and his wife, Joy Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray, on Nov. 30, 2003; one son, Randy; three brothers, Dale, Gene and Larry Doughan; two sisters, Shirley Ann Sallade and Charlotte Doughan.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Georgia Charleen Cable Brown 

Georgia Charleen Cable Brown, 86, of the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Services will be held at a later date.
Georgia Charleen Cable Brown, only child of John T. and Sina Z. (Clark) Cable was born Dec. 2, 1917 at Sheffield, Iowa. She grew up in the Rockwell-Swaledale area and graduated from the Swaledale High School in 1936. For many years, Georgia lived in Nora Springs, Iowa, later moving to Clear Lake, where she had lived the last 45 years. She worked as a waitress for many area cafes. Georgia was well liked by all her customers and a favorite waitress among many. She was also a member of the Clear Lake First United Methodist Church.
After retiring, Georgia made many trips to Texas to visit grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, and visiting with everybody.
Georgia will be greatly missed by her son, John L. (Jack) Brown and his wife, Nancy, Clear Lake; her daughter, Sharon K. Edwards Carberry and her husband, Howard, Lorena, Texas; three grandchildren, Lori Carberry Wacker and her husband, Ronald, Fort Worth, Texas, Lisa Carberry Newman and her husband, Steve, Junction City, Kan., and Mark H. Carberry and Tammy Jackson, Paris, Texas. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Brittany Wacker, Fort Worth, Texas, Stevie, Chris, and Alisha Newman, Junction City, Kan., Kelly Carberry, Corsicana, Texas, and Clayton and Cameron Carberry, Paris, Texas; and one great-great-granddaughter, Courtney Lee Gonzales, Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Renee Wacker.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Mabel Bertha Anderson Francis 

Mabel Bertha Anderson Francis, 100, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania, Mason City, with Pastor Keith Scott and Pastor Jim Allard officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.  Family will greet friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City, and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.
Mabel Bertha Anderson Francis was born on Nov. 14, 1903, in Rake, Iowa, the daughter of James Peter and Clara Minnie (Johnson) Juel.  She was raised in Forest City and graduated from Forest City High School.  She was united in marriage to Melvin S. Anderson on July 4, 1922, in Albert Lea, Minn.  He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1974.  After their marriage together they farmed in the Pemberton, Minn., area before moving to Mason City in 1944.  Mabel worked at Decker's Packing Plant and also worked for 20 years for State Brand Creamery (AMPI) in Mason City.  She was united in marriage to Otha Francis on July 1, 1975, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City.  He preceded her in death in 1978.
Mabel enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and internationally. She enjoyed visiting her sister in Tucson, Az. and her brother in Baltimore, M.D., crocheting, crafts, playing cards, and she loved to entertain.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City and a member of the United Church of Christ in Osage, Iowa.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Wood of Clear Lake, Caren Ellis and her husband, Larry, of Mason City, George Anderson of Canon City, Col., and Wilford Anderson and his wife, Kathie, of Tucson, Az.; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Klaassen, of Clear Lake and a brother, Ernest Juel of Baltimore, M.D. as well as Otha Francis's family in Osage and other relatives and friends.
Besides her husbands, Melvin S. Anderson and Otha Francis, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Betty Jean Kigar; grandchildren, Rhonda Wood Smith, Debra Wood, Brian Anderson, and Melva Jean Ross; two sisters, Alice Edminster, and Ruth Kramer; brother, Lawrence Juel; son-in-law, Ron Wood, and a daughter-in-law, Muriel Anderson. 
Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Colleen (Steenblock) Kaster 

Colleen (Steenblock) Kaster, 48, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 21, at United Methodist Church, Kanawha, Iowa. Interment was in Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell, Iowa.
Colleen Renee Steenblock, the daughter of Harvey and Dorothy (Gano) Steenblock was born Dec. 3, 1955, in Belmond, Iowa. She was raised on a farm southeast of Kanawha, Iowa until her father passed away in 1968. At that time the family moved into Kanawha. Colleen graduated from Kanawha High School in 1974. She was confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Kanawha.
As a child, Colleen enjoyed spending time swinging on the swings and playing with Barbies. She and her daughter, Kelsie, loved to shop, fish, and spend quality time together. Colleen had beautiful handwriting and would spend hours practicing her calligraphy. She never gave a gift without writing a note or a limerick to include with it. She always thought of others before herself.
Colleen was a former member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church.
Colleen is survived by her husband, Robert Kaster, of Forest City, Iowa; daughter, Kelsie, of Forest City; her mother, Dorothy Steenblock, of Kanawha; two sisters: Susan (James) Adams of Webster City, Iowa and Brenda Steenblock of Belmond; two brothers, Michael (Patricia) Mongan of Fulton, Miss. and Ralph Steenblock of Kanawha; three nephews, Bruce, Clint, and Joshua; great-niece, Katelyn; aunt and uncle Richard (Rhea) Steenblock, of Belmond; brother-in-law, Randy; three sisters-in-law, Sharon, Deanna, and Penny; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey, in 1968; grandparents, father-in-law, Robert; sister-in-law, Jody, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, Kanawha, Iowa, was in charge of services.

Freeman L. "Dutch" Riseling 

Freeman L. "Dutch" Riseling, 90, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 in Michigan City, Ind.
A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 15, in Michigan City. Cremation has taken place. Private family burial will be at a later date.
Mr. Riseling was born Nov. 17, 1913, in Washta, Iowa, to Henry and Corda Conley Riseling. On Aug. 7, 1938, in Woodward, Iowa, he married Margaret Newland, who survives in Michigan City.
Survivors also include one son, Robert (Lois) Riseling, Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Suzanne Moore, Michigan City and Kay Yeatman, Ruidoso, N.M.; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Riseling was a former station owner and district manager for Sinclair Oil in Iowa. He then went to work for the state of Iowa as an inspector. Mr. Riseling was a member of Earl Road Christian Church and F&AM Lodge 83 in Michigan City.
