Eugene F. Burris
Eugene F. Burris, 91, of 705 3rd Ave N, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004,
at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Memorial services
will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, July 8, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St.,
Clear Lake with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Visitation will be held one hour
prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran
Church.
Gene was born Aug. 22, 1912, the son of Marshall and Mary (Wass) Burris, at
Mason City. After graduation from Mason City High School in 1933, he worked as a
salesman in the Davenport, Iowa area. He met Dorothy Woehlk during that time and
they were married March 27, 1937 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa.
Eventually they settled in Clear Lake. Gene spent four years helping build the
Alcan Highway in Canada. He later worked for Williams Pipeline Company and
retired in 1977 after 32 years of employment.
Gene was a jack-of-all-trades and a skilled carpenter with the ability to build
or fix almost anything. He finished construction on the family home in 1950,
where he remained active until his death. He also built a much-enjoyed cabin in
Colorado and a number of toys and playthings for his children and grandchildren.
For many years he won the outdoor lighting contest and continued his tradition
of Christmas lighting through the past holiday season. Gene was an avid
fisherman, boater, and outdoor enthusiast with a fondness for animals. He was a
long time member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Gene is survived by three children, Ron (Brenda) Burris of Horse Shoe, N.C.,
Dennis (Barbara) Burris of Dexter, Or.; and Wendy (Will) Keen of Mason City; 13
grandchildren, Jon, Jeff, Roddy and Tom Burris, Heather Preston, Briceanne
Bailey, Nancy Frame, Brent Bailey, Johannah Keil, Korenza Burris, Jennifer,
Aimee and Nathan Keen and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; brother, Merlin
Burris and sister, Evelyn Wakefield.

Judith Anita Hall
Judith Anita Hall, 64, of 101 2nd St,
Fertile, Iowa, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 1, at the
Church of Christ, Fertile Iowa with the Rev. Curt Gallmeyer officiating.
Interment was at the Grant Township Cemetery, Fertile. The family suggests
memorials to the Church Of Christ, Fertile.
Judie was born March 15, 1940, the daughter of James and Esther (Furness) Haugen
at Mason City. Judie graduated from Fertile High School in 1959, and married
Eugene Hall August 23, 1959. Judie worked for Winnebago Industries for several
years then worked for Opportunity Village as a job coach for 20 years, retiring
in 2000. She enjoyed crafts, attending children and grandchildren's events, and
spending time with her grandchildren. She was very committed to her family and
the Church of Christ where she was an active member for most of her life. She
loved and trusted the Lord and is now in his loving arms.
Judie is survived by her husband, Eugene Hall of Fertile; four children, Tim
(Patty) Hall of Mason City, Tracy (Tammy) Hall of Fertile, Tami (Dan) Horner of
Clear Lake, and Troy (Trish) Hall of Forest City; brother, Larry (Dixie) Haugen
of Clear Lake; sister, Janan Haugen of West Point, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Brian
(Coralene) Hall of Clear Lake, and Gary (Cheryl) Hall of Lincoln, Ill.;
grandchildren Christopher, Casey, Stephen and Andrew Hall, Samantha, Brady,
Austin, and Hailey Horner, Bethany, Nicholas and Logan Hall.
Her parents and in-laws, Glea and Mavis Hall, preceded her in death.

Charles "Chuck" Daniel Davis
Charles "Chuck" Daniel Davis, of 901 South
3rd Street, Clear Lake, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Heritage Care Center,
Mason City.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 3, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with Lay Assistant Dick Scott officiating. Burial was in the
Clear Lake Cemetery.
Family suggest memorials to Hospice
Charles "Chuck" Daniel Davis was born Sept. 18, 1913 the son of George and
Clarice (Gifford) Davis, in Fayette, Iowa. He and his parents moved to Clear
Lake in 1919, where he attended Clear Lake School system. He was united in
marriage to Catherine (Porter) Davis on March 3, 1935 in the Little Brown
Church, Nashua, Iowa.
Chuck and Clair worked together running vending machines all over North Iowa. He
worked at the Clear Lake Bakery as the head of maintenance and mechanic for 35
years, later retiring in 1978.
He enjoyed gardening, his cats, tinkering with things - even if not broken, and
going to coffee with Scott. His greatest love was spending time with his
children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear
Lake.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Catherine Davis, of Clear Lake; four children,
Sandra Cesar, of Clear Lake, Jill Deuel and her husband, Rick, of San Antonio,
Texas, Joni Anderson, of Kingman, Az., Scott Davis and his fiancé, Rene Herker,
of Forest City, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Davis, Des Moines, Iowa; eight
grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Davis; two infant great-
grandchildren; one sister, Lenore George, and two brothers, Robert and Clair
Davis.

Herman T. "Andy" Anderson
Herman T. "Andy" Anderson, 86, of 1109 5th
Ave. South, Clear Lake, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at the I.O.O.F. Home in
Mason City, Iowa. He requested there be no memorial service. His cremated
remains will make the journey to his final resting place near the Colorado Rocky
Mountains that he loved so much.
Herman was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Mason City, the son of Herman William and Ida
(Nealander) Anderson. He received his education from Mason City Schools and
later Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
Andy was a bookkeeper in the automobile industry most of his life. He enjoyed
everything revolving around automobiles including driving them from coast to
coast, reading endlessly about them and purchasing quite a few throughout his
lifetime. After retirement, he could be found relaxing in one of his cars under
many a shady tree around the Clear Lake and Mason City area. His enthusiasm and
love of automobiles persevered well beyond his driving days by sharing his son's
enjoyment of the same hobby.
He is survived by his son, Wayne and his wife, Jan, Clear Lake; his brother, O.C.
Anderson, Jacksonville, Fla.; special friends, Curt Anderson, of Golden,
Colorado, and Willie Ebert, of Mason City; his three very special kitties, and
several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, and special lifelong
friend, Carlin Hahn.

Donovan K. Havnen
Donovan K. Havnen, 77, of Mason City, Iowa,
formerly of Clear Lake, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at Good Shepherd Health
Center, Mason City. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 6, at Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Derik Yarian officiating. Burial was at
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, where Military honors were conducted by the
Clear Lake V.F.W. Post #4868.
Memorials may be left to the Donovan K. Havnen Memorial Fund, c/o 5285 South
Shore Drive, Clear Lake, Iowa, 50428.
Donovan Kaywood, the son of Morgan and Opal (Kinden) Havnen, was born Sept. 22,
1926 in Thompson, Iowa. He received his education from Mason City High School,
graduating in 1944. He was united in marriage to Shirley Tagesen on May 11, 1945
in Cheyenne, Wyo. The couple made their home in Mason City. Don enlisted in the
Army Air Forces in January 1946, where he held the rank of PFC. He was honorably
discharged in December 1946. He reenlisted in the United States Air Force in
October 1950 and was honorably discharged in October 1951. During his time in
the military, he served in WWII and the Korean War. He came back to the Mason
City area where he worked as a contractor with his father-in-law for many years.
Later he went to work for Decker's, where he worked until injuries from a car
accident forced an early retirement in 1979. After his accident, the couple
moved to Clear Lake, and then back to Mason City. In 1986 Don received his
pilots license. Don and Shirley moved into Good Shepherd Health Center in 2001.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as visiting the cabin of his
sister and brother-in-law, Mardelle and Dick, in Minnesota, where he loved to
fish, camp, and fly airplanes. He also enjoyed hunting and was an avid hockey
fan.
Don was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Clear Lake.
Don is survived by his children, Mary Lin Kolb and her husband, Doug, Clear
Lake, James Havnen and his wife, Pam, Ankeny, Iowa, Donovan Havnen and his wife,
Jennifer, Andover, Ks., Matthew Havnen, Nora Springs, Iowa, Kathy Banks and her
husband, Don, Clear Lake, and Mark Havnen and his wife, Connie, Estero, Fla.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one stepbrother,
Paul Havnen and his wife, Jeanne, of Clive, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley, on Aug. 11, 2003;
daughter-in-law, Wendy Havnen; sister, Mardelle Holt, and brother, John Havnen.

Marie
Hamann
Marie Hamann, 96, Ventura, died Sunday, July
4, 2004 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 9, at Redeemer
Lutheran Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Daird W. Korth officiating. Interment
will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be
Thursday, from 5 until 7 p.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th
Street, Clear Lake. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on
Friday at the church.
The family of Marie Hamann has requested that memorial contributions be made to
the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura or Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.
Marie was born Oct. 3, 1907 in Adel, Iowa, the daughter of Fred E. and Virgie
(Potter) Wilson. Marie attended school in Clear Lake. She was united in marriage
to George Hamann on July 3, 1925. He preceded her in death in 1977. In 1934,
George and Marie built the Heidelberg Supper Club in Luana, Iowa and owned and
operated the supper club until 1952. In 1958, the family began farming in the
rural Ventura area and after her husband's death in 1977, Marie continued to
farm until the time of her death.
She loved and enjoyed taking care of the farm, gardening, and flowers.
She was the oldest member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura and was also a
member of the Dorcus Society.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Betty Nolan, Naperville, Ill.; four
great-grandchildren, William C. Nolan III, Aurora, Ill., Carolyn Nolan, Aurora,
Jeffrey Kennedy, Naperville, Ill., and Meghan Kennedy of Naperville; a brother,
Bill Wilson and his wife, Elsie, Ventura, Iowa; many nieces and nephews as well
as other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; two
grandchildren, William C. Nolan Jr., and Carol Kennedy; a great-grandson, John
Nolan; five brothers, Harold, Nile, Jim, George, and Henry Wilson, and two
sisters, Margie Walker and Mary Byerly.

Delores Lallier
Delores Lallier, 73, 205 Westview Dr.,
Ventura, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Heritage Care Center, Mason City, Iowa. A
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, at St. Patrick's
Catholic Church, Clear Lake with the Rev. Robert Hogan officiating. Burial will
be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial may be left to the discretion of the family.
Delores Ellen, the daughter of Earl Sr. and Veda (Robinson) Bowman, was born
Nov. 10, 1930 in Algona, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from
Algona High School. After high school, she attended nursing training, where she
earned her LPN degree. Delores was united in marriage to Leo F. Lallier on Sept.
9, 1950 in Algona. The couple made their home in Ventura. Delores worked for
what is now Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa for over 40 years in varying
areas, but her specialties were the medical and surgical floors. She returned to
NIACC in the early 1970's to obtain her RN degree.
Delores's greatest love was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed
traveling with Leo to Arizona for the winter months for the past several years.
She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Clear Lake.
Delores is survived by her husband, Leo, of Ventura; three daughters, Vicki
McNally and her husband, Patrick, Tucson, Az., Debra Sharits and her significant
other, Jack Wignot, Redondo Beach, Calif., and Kristy Prall and her husband,
Kirk, Meridian, Idaho. Also surviving are six grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl Bowman, Jr. and his wife, Shirley,
Hayfield, Minn., and two sisters, Barb Craig and her husband, Don, Washington,
Ill., and Judy Radig and her husband, Roger, Lone Rock, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Larry Bowman, and one
granddaughter, Melissa.

Frank "Speck" Haddy
Frank "Speck" Haddy, 80, of 111 Fifth Ave.
North, Clear Lake, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, at Holy
Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 Second Street SW, Mason City, with
the Rev. Joseph Mirwoski officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery,
Mason City, with military honors by the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Frank, the son of Mike and Andoria (Eddy) Haddy, was born Oct. 15, 1923 in
Seneca, Iowa. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1941. He entered the
United States Army as a pathfinder with the 82nd Airborne Division's 508th
Parachute Infantry Regiment. Frank earned the Bronze and Silver stars as well as
the Purple Heart during his time in the military. After being discharged in 1946
he returned to the United States and spent a short time in California before
returning to the Clear Lake area. He was united in marriage to Juanita
Henningsen on May 4, 1949 in Clear Lake. During Frank's lifetime he worked with
several businesses in the Clear Lake area, such as Touristville Boat Company. He
was a co-owner of Lake Crest Café, Clark Sport Shop, and the Lamplighter Lounge
in Buffalo Center, Iowa. He retired from Martin Marietta after many years of
service. As a retiree he worked for Nelson Petroleum and then the Railroad Crew
Transport until June 2 of this year.
Frank's greatest love was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed
gardening and was very involved with planning the yearly reunions of his Army
Division.
Frank was a member of the former American Legion Post #222 of Clear Lake and a
lifetime member of the Clear Lake V.F.W. Post # 4868.
Frank is survived by his wife, Lorene, of Clear Lake; one daughter, Lauralee
Calgaard and her husband, Gary; one son, Michael Lauritz Haddy and his wife,
Lisa Van Slyke, of Houston, Texas,; five grandchildren, Thomas Calgaard of Ames,
Iowa, Ivy Calgaard of Nashville, Tenn., Cody and Brandon Haddy of Corpus Cristi,
Texas and Colton Bodin of Houston, Texas; four step-children, Diana Byington and
her husband, Tim, of Clear Lake, Darcy Skellenger and her husband, Dan, of Clear
Lake, Jeff Pierce and his wife, Amy, of Rochester, Minn., and Randy Pierce of
Woodland, Calif.; 10 step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. Also
surviving are four sisters, Mae Sharp of Long Beach, Calif., Martha Slaughter,
of Cypress, Calif., Elizabeth Christensen of Long Beach, and Betty Beck of
Dayton, Ohio, and one brother, James Haddy of Indio, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Juanita, and four
brothers.

Wayne "Shorty" Spilman
Wayne "Shorty" Spilman, 74, 14754 Evergreen, Clear Lake, died Monday, July 5,
2004 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service
was held Saturday, July 10, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with
the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery,
Mason City. Military Honors were by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Memorials may be given
to the Wayne Spilman Memorial Fund.
Shorty was born Oct. 26, 1929, on the family farm south of Clear Lake, the son
of Daniel and Alphena (Thompson) Spilman Jr. He attended rural schools. Shorty
served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. When he came back to Clear Lake
he farmed the family farm with his brothers and father. Shorty married Phyllis
"Till" Kelley on Oct. 10, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church.
Shorty and Till enjoyed going to sales and collecting antiques. They enjoyed
their many family pets, including their pet cow, Josie. He had a great love for
cattle and horses. Shorty could tell a joke like nobody else. He loved visiting.
He was loved by all and never met a stranger. Shorty was a member of Zion
Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, and the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Shorty is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Till) Spilman, Clear Lake; three
sisters, Thelma Duregger, Clear Lake, Helen Duregger and her husband, Fred, New
Porte News, Vir., and Betty Thomas, Clear Lake; two brothers, Sam Spilman, Clear
Lake, and Daniel T. Spilman, Clear Lake; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Spilman and
Alma Spilman, both of Clear Lake, and many nieces and nephews.
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Orval and Dale
Spilman; two brothers-in-law, Virgil Duregger and Bill Thomas, and many
wonderful pets.

Linda R. Finger
Linda R. Finger, 56, Forest City, Iowa, died
Monday, July 5, 2004 at her home. A funeral service was held Friday, July 9, at
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard officiating.
Interment was held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hospice
of North Iowa in her name.
Linda was born Dec. 9, 1947, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of George F. and
Nina (Zimmel) Hoffman. Linda attended Clear Lake High School. She worked as a
waitress at the Holiday Inn, Mason City and Winnebago Industries for over 20
years in the Stitch Craft Department. Linda married Dale Finger on Jan. 4, 1992
at Faith Lutheran Church, Miller, Iowa.
Linda was an avid Coca Cola collector. She loved her animals and raising
flowers. She was an excellent mother and wife. She was an outstanding cook and
loved to entertain her relatives. Linda enjoyed fishing and driving through
Pilot Knob Park.
She was diagnosed with cancer and had been receiving wonderful care from Midwest
Regional Medical Cancer Center, Zion, Ill.
Linda is survived by her husband, Dale Finger, Forest City; a daughter, Melody
Solvwisch and her husband, Scott, Forest City; a son, Shannon Torkelson, Forest
City; step-son, Tyrel Finger, Forest City; step-daughter, Micah Finger, Rock
Valley, Iowa; step-grandson, Tylen Finger, Fredericksburg, Iowa; three sisters,
Betty Lunn and her husband, George, Clear Lake, Evelyn Frank, Mason City, and
Judy Bisher and her husband, Glen, Citrus Heights, Calif.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Keith Hoffman and Gary
Hoffman Sr., and one sister, Marlene Stevens.

Ruth T. Bataitis
Ruth T. Bataitis, 71, of 813 9th Ave. South,
Clear Lake, died Saturday, July, 3, 2004 at her home.
A Funeral Mass was held Thursday, July 8, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating.
Ruth Tafela Bataitis was born Oct. 11, 1932 the daughter of Frank and Emma
(Curtis) Bataitis.
Ruth attended Clear Lake High School. After high school she worked in Clear
Lake. She attended Wright Junior College in Chicago, Ill., receiving her
Associates of Arts degree; North Iowa Area Community College, receiving her
Associates of Science degree; and Buena Vista University, receiving her
Bachelors degree in Business. She moved to Chicago in 1956 to attend Northwest
Radio and Television School. While attending school she worked at Chicago O'Hara
International North Central Airlines in passenger relations and teaching. She
returned to Clear Lake in 1967 to take car of her mother.
Ruth's hobbies were sewing and knitting her own clothes.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.
She is survived by special friend, Roy Larson, of Clear Lake; three sisters,
Frances and her husband, William Murray, of Arizona, Theresa and her husband,
Led Smith, of Faribault, Minn., and Elizabeth Ramler, of San Diego, Calif.
She is preceded into death by her parents.

Mildred "Millie" Alice Harding
Mildred "Millie" Alice Harding, 92, of Clear
Lake, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 12, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Memorials may be made
to Oakwood Care Center or Hospice of North Iowa.
Millie was born in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Tom and Alice (Corn)
Richey. She was a graduate of Manly High School in Manly, Iowa. She then moved
to Clear Lake and worked at the Surf Ballroom. She eloped with Earl Harding to
Owatonna, Minn. on March 22, 1936. In 1939 they moved to St. Paul, Minn., where
she and her husband managed the Prom Ballroom. In 1942, they also managed the
Terp Ballroom and the Surf. In 1948 they purchased Dance Island in Wahoo, Neb.
They moved back to Clear Lake in 1967, where Millie worked with her sister,
Verna Ouverson, in Verna's Shoppe. Millie owned Verna's Shoppe from 1987 until
her retirement, at age 80, in 1992. She enjoyed spending time with her family,
playing cards and going to the casino with old friends like Bill and LaVerne
Hoy. She loved having coffee with her "coffee buddies" every morning at her home
and later at Oakwood Care Center.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Sharon Albers, Clear Lake; son, Richard
Harding and his wife, Leanne, Lincoln, Neb.; five grandchildren, Debbie Racine
and her husband, Gene, Pt. Townsend, Wash., Steve McAllister, Anchorage, Alaska,
Jennifer Bartels, Lincoln, Neb., Kimberly Kjeldgaard and her husband, Dan,
Omaha, Neb. and Molly Hobbs and her husband, Wally, Taiwan; seven
great-grandchildren; special grandchildren, Jim and Denise Davis, Clear Lake;
special niece, Pat Ouverson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and many other nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl, in 1969; son-in-law,
Gene Albers; grandson, Stan Bartels; three sisters, Verna Ouverson, Ruth Ulsted,
and Pearl Brunsvold and one brother, Jimmy Richey.

Glee Belle Mennenga
Glee Belle Mennenga, 81, of Belmond, Iowa,
passed away Saturday, July 3, 2004, at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral
services were held Wednesay, July 7, at Immanuel Reformed Church, Belmond.
Glee, the daughter of Clarence and Violet Walker Hill, was born July 21, 1922,
in Hanlontown, Iowa. She was raised in the Clear Lake area and graduated from
Clear Lake High School.
During WWII, Glee was employed at an airplane factory in Omaha, Neb. She later
worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa; but first and foremost she
was a housewife and mother.
On Feb. 28, 1946, Glee was united in marriage with Elmer Waltzing in Klemme,
Iowa. To this union five children were born. Elmer passed away in 1977. Glee was
united in marriage with Don Mennenga on Jan. 4, 1979, in Belmond. Don passed
away in 1983. She also enjoyed many years of companionship with Ed Pals.
Glee's many hobbies included dancing at the Surf, cooking, quilting, playing Uno
with her grandchildren and playing cards with friends. She loved cooking and
washing clothes.
A member of Immanuel Reformed Church in Belmond, Glee was also active in the
Women's Group. She enjoyed the time spent with the Pleasant Peppy Pals 4-H club
as a leader and judge.
Glee Belle is survived by two daughters, Jolene DeCarlo and her husband,
Charles, of Truro, Iowa and Janice Creason and her husband, Chris, of Perry,
Iowa; two sons, John Waltzing and his wife, Lee Ann, Belmond and Doug and his
wife, Barb of Belmond; son-in-law, Larry Tisor, and Becky of Mason City; 11
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; extended family members, Dave Mennenga
of Grand Island, Neb., Bob and Pat Mennenga and family of Omaha, and Marcia and
Frank Bergmark and family of Grand Island; brother, Elston (Tony) Hill and his
wife, Barbara, Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Marguerite Hoffland and her
husband, Edward, Cresco, Iowa, Geri Klesel and her husband, George, Springfield,
and sister-in-law, Mina Hill, Laguna, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elmer and Don; daughter,
Marilyn,; special friend and longtime companion, Ed Pals, great-granddaughter,
Elizabeth; brother, Vern Hill; sister, Edna Morgan, and an infant sister, Wilma
Jean.

Lucile (Lucy) Alma (Waligorski)
Geske
Lucile (Lucy) Alma (Waligorski) Geske, age
78, of the Stratford Nursing Rehab Center of Stratford, Iowa and formerly of
Boone, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the Mary
Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa
Funeral service will be held Friday, July 16, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of
Boone with the Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating.
Lucile was born on March 2, 1926 to Paul and Bertha (Braun) Waligorski. She grew
up on the family farm and attended the Fairbank School District, graduating in
1944.
She worked the summer following graduation for a local restaurant, and then
began working at the Fairbank State Bank in the fall of 1944. She was united in
marriage to Arnold Geske on June 18, 1955. They made their home in Fairbank and
then built a home in Oelwein, Iowa in 1958.
She continued to work at Fairbank State Bank until 1974, then worked part-time
at Meyer-Lincoln True Value in Oelwein, until Arnold was transferred with the
railroad in 1980. They moved to Clear Lake, Iowa in 1980 and to Boone, Iowa in
1985. Lucile became a resident of Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in January
2001.
Lucy was an avid gardner, a league bowler, and participated in slow-pitch
softball. She was always ready for the card game of 500. She was also a
wonderful cook. She enjoyed her social groups and coffee times with her friends.
Lucile is survived by her husband, Arnold Geske, of Boone; her son, Jeff Geske
and his wife, Sharon, of Peoria, Ill.; her daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) Arnold and
her husband, Bob, of Sherburn, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jay Arnold and his
friend, Annie Leibfried, of Worthington, Minn., Brad (BJ) Arnold and Anna
Arnold, of Sherburn; her brother, Dale Waligorski of Fairbank, Iowa; her
brother-in-law, Jim Kaufman, of Fairbank, her brother-in-law, Lawrence Geske and
his wife, Shirley, of Marion, Iowa; three nieces and four nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Arlene Waligorski and
Doris Kaufman.
The family request memorials be designated to the Alzheimer's Association or
Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone in her memory.
The Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, Boone, was in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Elmer H. Widmann
The Rev. Elmer H. Widmann, 101, died at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, Monday, July 19, 2004 after a brief illness. Memorial services were held
Saturday, July 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Revs. Jonathan Offt and
Parker Knoll. Burial was in Newhall Lutheran Cemetery, Newhall.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Richard (Eileen) Widmann of San Diego, Calif.;
a daughter, Dorothy (Edward) Statton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren,
Jeanette (Terry) Marks of Oregon, Rachel (Joel) Wohfeil and Mary (Steven)
Rochester, all of San Diego, Major Jonathan (Mara) Widmann of San Antonio,
Texas, and Faith (LCDR Mark) Lakamp of Ramona, Calif.; 17 great- grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild and a niece, Jan (Will) Jorgenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Jeanette, in 1938.
Elmer was born Dec. 10, 1902 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of William and Elizabeth
Krueger Widmann. He married Jeanette A. Happel on Aug. 9, 1929 in Vinton, Iowa.
Elmer was a graduate of Concordia College in St. Paul, Minn., and Concordia
Theological Seminary, in St. Louis. Mo. and was the last living graduate from
the class of 1928. Elmer served his pastorates in St. Louis, Mo., Iona, Minn.,
Ute, Iowa, Ogden, Iowa, formerly, Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids from
1948- 1959, Ventura, Iowa and Hampton, Iowa. He was very dedicated to serving
God and the Lutheran Churches he served in. He will be greatly missed by his
family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the International Lutheran
Hour.

Lois
Mae Hahn
Lois Mae Hahn, 67, 1609 W. 7th Ave N., Clear
Lake, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at her home after a five-month battle with
cancer. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, at the United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Interment was at
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Clear
Lake United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa in her name.
Lois was born March 5, 1937, in Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Virginia
(Richmond) Petersen. She graduated from Traer High School in 1955, then moved to
Clear Lake. Lois married Carlin Hahn on July 20, 1957 in Traer. Carlin and Lois
enjoyed their three children together and were a great parenting team. In her
free time, Lois enjoyed watching old movies, going out to eat, being with her
friends, and having coffee at Cabin Coffee Company. Lois was involved in and
enjoyed a Thursday night bowling league and a variety of church-related groups
and activities. Although quiet by nature, Lois had a wonderful sense of humor.
She was an incredibly supportive and loving mother whose three children will
miss her immensely. Lois will also be missed by her cat, Lucy. For the last
fifteen years Lois had been working at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake
as custodian. Going to work there brought real joy to her life.
Lois is survived by three children, Ken Hahn and partner, Joe Bjordal,
Minneapolis, Minn., Debbie Hahn Fisher and her husband, Jeremy, Minneapolis, and
Julie Hahn and her fiancé, Tim Cordova, Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Dolly
Larsen and her husband, Nels, Clear Lake; three brothers, Don Petersen, Cedar
Falls, Iowa, Bob Petersen and his wife, Lois, Chaska, Minn. and Jim Petersen and
his wife, Mary, Reinbeck, Iowa; an aunt, Ella Staker, Reinbeck, and her cat,
Lucy.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carlin on March 26, 1996
and one sister-in-law, Juanita Petersen.

Ruby Karoline Barlow
Ruby Karoline Barlow, 94, formerly of Clear
Lake, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at the U.S.A. Healthcare Center, Mason City,
Iowa. A funeral service was held Thursday, July 22, at the United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Interment will be at
the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
Ruby, the daughter of John Carl and Maude (Thomas) Grell, was born Oct. 30, 1909
in Ventura, where she attended school. Ruby married Melvin E. Barlow on March 2,
1940 at Garner, Iowa. They farmed south of Clear Lake until 1978, when they
retired to Clear Lake. Neighbors and friends were very important to both Ruby
and Melvin.
Ruby enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing and she loved flowers (especially roses).
But her greatest love was her family. Ruby was a loving, caring wife, mother and
grandmother, who continually was concerned about their welfare. "Mom will be
remembered for her infectious laugh, ready smile and pure enjoyment of watching
young children."
Ruby was a member of the Clear Lake Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women
Circle, Sing and Sew Club and Tina Rebekah Lodge.
Ruby is survived by two daughters, Julie Schelhammer and her husband, Lance,
Lenexa, Kan. and Carolyn Nyhus and her husband, Allan, Cedar Falls, Iowa; four
grandchildren, Leslie Smith and her husband, Peter, Ann Arbor, Mich., Susan Wray
and her husband, Mark, Cedar Falls, Austin Nyhus, Cedar Falls, and Lance
Schelhammer II and his wife, Stacie, Shawnee, Kan.; seven great-grandchildren,
Victoria and Allan Nyhus, Hannah and Madeline Smith, Brett and Emily Wray and
Isabel Schelhammer.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin on May 17, 1992,
and six brothers and sisters, Walter Grell, Nettie Zook, Alice Borton, Mildred
Caffrey, Cora Spurrier and Carl Grell.
