Betty Ann Powell
Betty Ann Powell,
76, 3662 North Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Sunday evening, Sept. 21, 2003 at
her home. A funeral Mass was held Friday, Sept. 26, at St. Patrick's
Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating. Memorials
may be made to the Betty Ann Powell Memorial Fund. Interment will be held at
the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Betty was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Earl
C. and Albertine "Midge" (Charleston) Welsh. As a child, Betty moved with
her family to Mason City where she graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High
School in 1945. She attended Nursing school at Creighton University, Omaha,
Neb. where she met Wm. Thomas Powell. They were married Oct. 26, 1946 at St.
Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City. They first made their home in Missouri
Valley, Iowa, followed by Sioux Center, Garner, Denison, and Clear Lake in
1967.
Betty loved to garden, knit and do other handiwork; play bridge and go
fishing. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and many other
clubs and organizations
Betty is survived by her son, Robert Thomas Powell and his wife, April,
Ocala, Fla.; her daughter, Mary Ann Bratvold and her husband, Randy, Milton,
Wis.; one brother, Thomas Welsh and his wife, Judy, Las Cruces, N.M.; five
grandchildren, Jesse Hyde, Milton, Wis., Stacy Schelman and her husband,
Charles, Milwaukee, Wis., Betsy Bratvold, and her fiancé, Jeremy Zajac,
Milton,Wis., Ray and Todd Powell, Ocala, Fla.; five great-grandchildren,
Allison, Andrew, Blaine, Eli and Roarke Hyde; her little dog, Patsy, and
many relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William, on
Sept. 18, 1983.
Wayne Wilcox
Wayne Wilcox, 89, 608
North Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003 at Oakwood Care
Center, Clear Lake. According to his wishes, he is being cremated. A private
inurnment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery. A memorial service will be
held at a later date. Other arrangements are incomplete at Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.
Roger L. Kelmas
Roger L. Kelmas,
72, of Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at the Muse Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services for Roger will be
held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 North
Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, with the Rev. Ken Hatland officiating.
Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites at the
graveside will be conducted by the Mason City Veteran's Memorial
Association. Memorials may be directed towards the Roger L. Klemas Memorial
Fund.
Roger L. Klemas was born May 26, 1931 at Story Hospital in Mason City the
son of Harley John and Cora Mildred (Conklin) Klemas. He attended the Mason
City School System and graduated in 1949 and went on to receive his
Associate of Arts Degree from Mason City Junior College in 1951. Roger
continued his education and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the
University of Iowa in 1953. He then served his country from 1953 1955 in
the Korean Conflict achieving the Rank of Corporal in the United States
Army. Roger L. Klemas was united in marriage to June M. Olson on March 30,
1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.
As a boy Roger delivered newspapers for the Des Moines Register at the age
of 10 and for the Globe Gazette at the age of 12. Roger was a mail room
employee at the Globe Gazette in 1943. He then worked for the Globe Gazette
advertising department from 1953 - 1968 and then Mohawk Advertising from
1968 - 1971 when he retired.
Roger was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he helped with
ushering and preparing the Sunday bulletins. He also was a volunteer at the
Good Shepherd Health Center visiting the residents for over 13 years. Roger
had a deep appreciation and love for nature and the outdoors, he was an avid
stamp collector and reader. Roger always enjoyed the Wednesday morning
breakfast club with the guys. He also always loved to spend time with his
family and friends and dearly cared for his or his families' pets.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, June Marie; three sons, John
Lee Klemas, Mason City, Michael Allen Klemas and wife Diane (Hemann) of
Mason City, and Dennis Mark Klemas of Mason City; a brother, Ted Klemas and
his wife Patricia, of Mason City; several brothers and sisters-in-laws; many
nieces and nephews; four aunts and one uncle, and lifetime friend Robert
Bales, Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Clayton; two
uncles, three aunts and his grandparents.
Sherwood Otto Pitkin
Sherwood Otto Pitkin,
89, of 22445 Eagle Ave., Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at his
residence.
Funeral services were held at the Fertile Lutheran Church, Fertile, Iowa, on
Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 with the Rev. Merlin Norris officiating. Interment will
be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Family suggests
memorials to the Sherwood Otto Pitkin Memorial Fund.
Sherwood was born Aug. 16, 1914 northeast of Miller, Iowa, the son of Austin
Otto Pitkin and Nellie Sophia (Schwartz) Pitkin. Sherwood married Marian L.
Olson on May 18, 1938 at the Ellington Prairie Church, rural Garner, Iowa.
In 1938 Sherwood started farming near Burchinal, Iowa, until moving to a
farm near Garner in 1943. He farmed near Clear Lake from 1949 until present.
Sherwood enjoyed music and playing the violin with his dad and brothers at
their family gatherings. He also would spend time hunting and fishing with
his brothers and sharing lots of stories. Sherwood enjoyed reading about
geography, science and history and was very knowledgeable about Clear Lake
and local history. He loved all the grandchildren visits.
Sherwood was a member of the Fertile Lutheran Church serving on various
positions on the church council. He was a trustee for Grant Township and a
member of the Farm Bureau.
Sherwood is survived by two sons, Sherril Pitkin and his wife, Susan of
Corvallis, Ore. and Jim Pitkin of Mason City, Iowa; a daughter, Donna
Ouverson and her husband, Jerry, of Fertile; a brother, Ivan Pitkin and his
wife, Geraldine, Clear Lake; sisters-in-law Elaine Pitkin, Clear Lake, and
Luella Pitkin of Andrews, Texas; brother-in-law, Arno Olson and his wife,
Alma, Garner; sister-in-law, Bernice Anderson, Forest City, Iowa; seven
grandchildren, Kristine Pitkin and Brian Pitkin, Corvallis, Ore., Jeff
Ouverson and his wife, Dixie, Manly, Iowa, Jon Ouverson, Forest City, Iowa,
Julie Ouverson, Woodbury, Minn., Jodie Ouverson and Jamie Ouverson, both of
Des Moines, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; a sister, Goldie
Bitker and her husband, Roy; four brothers: Norval and his wife, Doris,
Franklin, Virgil and his wife, Dorothy and Curtis Pitkin.

Fern M. Boyle
Fern M. Boyle, 98, long time Clear
Lake business owner, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at the Heritage Care
Center, 501 S. Kentucky, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. The family suggests memorials to
Hospice of North Iowa or to Zion Lutheran Church of Clear Lake.
Fern was born Jan. 25, 1905 in Clear Lake to Oluf T. and Susan (Olson)
Hansen. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1922 where she was an
honor student and a member of the girls traveling basketball team. Fern
attended the University of Iowa where she was president of Alpha Chi Omega
sorority and president of the Pan Hellenic Association. She graduated in
1927 with a BA Degree. In 1931 she was married to Herman L. Boyle at her
family home in Clear Lake. Immediately following the wedding they left by
train and then by boat for South America where they lived in several
different countries including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Uruguay.
After Herman's retirement they moved to Clear Lake and operated a potato
farm at Thompson, Iowa and lived in Fern's childhood home, where she lived
until her health forced her to move to the Heritage Care Center. Fern and
Herman were involved in the operation of Oluf T. Hansen Dept. Store. The
store was started by her father in August, 1899. Fern was a life long member
of the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, where she was once an organist.
Fern had the honor of being the Grand Marshall of the Clear Lake 4th of July
parade in 1999.
Fern was a very positive person who always found a way to make people feel
special, and will be greatly missed by her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman, in 1994, and
her sister, Genevieve (Doli) Morgan.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Boyle; two nephews, Phillip
and Tom Boyle; a niece, Carolyn Hart; a very special cousin, Erna Hansen
Bevington; and the Valores and Russell Young family.

Wayne Wilcox
Wayne Wilcox, 89, 608
North Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003 at the Oakwood Care
Center, Clear Lake. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 10, 11
a.m., at the United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave N., Clear Lake, with
Pastor Fanny Hansen and Elders Cliff and Wanda Hagman, officiating.
Visitation with the family will be at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the
service. A private inurnment was held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials
may be given to the Community of Christ Church in lieu of flowers.
Wayne was born July 29, 1914, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Arthur and
Hattie (Sales) Wilcox. He worked with his father for 27 years in the grocery
and meat market business there. He married Nellie Irene Leonard on Aug. 24,
1936 in Logan, Iowa. They moved to Clear Lake in 1952 where he bought Wilcox
Furniture from his brother, Wendell. He operated it until his retirement in
1996, but still enjoyed going down and visiting in the store. Wayne loved to
go fishing and traveling, enjoying the winters they spent in Mission Texas.
His hobbies included gardening, fishing, polishing his car and most of all,
his work at the store.
Wayne was involved with the Clear Lake Business Development Corp., Retail
division and former board member of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
Wayne was the Grand Marshall of the Fourth of July parade in 2001. He was a
member of the Masons and Shriners, was involved with IFCA and joined the
Clear Lake Noon Lions in 1953. In Lions Club, he served as Director in 1969;
first, second and third vice president and President in 1973. He was awarded
the distinguished Melvin Jones Award. In 1973, he received a citation from
the Minnesota Furniture Salesman Club in recognition of his consideration,
courtesy and friendliness.
Wayne was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Clear Lake. He was
ordained a teacher in 1958, and Elder in 1962. He served in the local
congregation, and as District Bishop.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Nellie Wilcox, Clear Lake; daughter, Janelle
Sargent and her husband, Dale, Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Jennifer Moore
and her husband, Bruce, Scottsdale, Az. and Jeff Sargent and his wife,
Heather, American Fork, Utah, and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Stephen
Moore.
Wayne is preceded in death his parents; a brother, Wendell Wilcox and his
wife, Lucille.

Maxine May Ormsby
Maxine May Ormsby, 86,
1887 200th St., Ventura, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003 at her home. A
Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's
Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S. Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan
officiating. Interment will be held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials
may be given to the Maxine May Ormsby Memorial Fund.
Maxine was born Feb. 28, 1917, on the family farm south of Ventura, the
daughter of Albert and Josephine (Stork) Thronson. She graduated from
Ventura High School in 1934. She farmed with her parents and brother. Maxine
married James E. Ormsby Oct. 22, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church,
Garner, Iowa. They continued to live on her family farm.
Maxine's life centered on her family, making sure all their birthdays and
holidays were very special. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and
games, quilting, knitting and cooking. She made a special quilt for each of
her three daughters and seven grandchildren. Maxine and Jim celebrated 56
years together. Maxine was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner,
and the Union Dozen Club.
Maxine is survived by her husband, James E. Ormsby, Ventura; three
daughters, Kathy Meinecke and her husband, Don, Forest City, Iowa, Karen
Purcell and her husband, Dan, Clear Lake, and Joan Losey and her husband,
Brad, Clear Lake and seven grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer Meinecke;
Mike, Matthew, Benjamin and Rachel Purcell; and Courtney Losey.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and
Francis Thronson and one grandchild, Sarah Purcell.

Leo H. Peters, 84, of
515 2nd St. S, Rockwell, Iowa, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003 at the Muse-Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the St.
Peter Lutheran Church, 502 2nd St. S., Rockwell, Pastor Ronald Bolinger
officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in rural Swaledale,
Iowa.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fullerton Funeral
Home, 120 3rd St. S. in Rockwell, and will continue one hour prior to
services on Thursday at the church.
Leo was born in Pleasant Valley Township, Feb 24, 1919, the youngest child
to Harm and Mary Peters. He was nicknamed Buddy Boy by his mother and many
still know him as Bud.
In 1941 he married Edna Elizabeth Markwardt in Bethany, Mo. He was baptized
immediately after birth at home and was confirmed at St Paul's Lutheran
Church in Thornton, Iowa. Leo was an active member of St Peter Lutheran
church. He served two terms as councilman and was a Christian inspiration to
many. He had a life long interest in farming. He will be remembered as a
loving husband, caring father and wonderful grandfather. He had many close
nieces and nephews along with a host of friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edna Peters; a daughter, Lauralye
Peters, Centennial, Colo.; a son, Darwin, and wife, Beverly, Rockwell; a
daughter, Carolyn AbuJobarah and husband, Saleem, Rockwell; a sister,
Katherine Amundson, Northwood; a sister-in-law, Reva Peters, Swaledale; nine
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and special friends, Bob and Nancy
Corporan, Dougherty, Iowa.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Louie and sister,
Matilda.

David E. Toft
David E. Toft, 68, of
Savage, Minn., died Oct. 5, 2003 at his home surrounded by his family.
Memorial services will be Thursday, Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m., at the St. James
Lutheran Church, Burnsville, Minn. with the Rev. William Nordmark presiding.
Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorial services also will
be Saturday, Oct. 11, 11 a.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear
Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. The
family will greet friends one hour before the service. Inurnment will be in
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
David was born Feb. 2, 1935 in Polk County, Iowa, the son of Iver and Sadie
(Evans) Toft.
David married Marjorie Walls on Sept. 30, 1956 at the Zion Lutheran Church,
Clear Lake. He was a machinist in the tool and dye industry.
David was a gentle, caring, kind man with a positive outlook on life that
will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
David is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of 47 years; son, Mike Toft of New
Prague; daughter, Julie (Scott) Sieben, Savage; two grandchildren, Nikki and
Jenna Sieben and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Delores Fischer.

Virginia M. Beale
Virginia M. Beale, 80, 706 Maple
Place, Thornton, Iowa died at her home, Monday, Oct. 13, 2003. A memorial
service will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, 2 p.m., at the Richland
Lutheran Church, 304 Elm St., Thornton, with the Rev. Jerome Gernander
officiating. Visitation will begin half hour preceding the service. An
Inurnment was held at the Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be given
to Hospice of North Iowa.
Virginia was born April 19, 1923, in rural Thornton, Richland Township,
Franklin Co, Iowa, the daughter of William and Grace M. (Worthington)
Schonemann. She attended Richland TWP. Country School, graduated from
Thornton High School in 1940, and A.I.B. (American Institute of Business),
Des Moines, Iowa in 1941. Virginia was employed by the War Department,
Quartermaster Corps, Washington, D.C., U.S. Maritime Commission, Portland,
Ore. and Fred Mason and Sen. Frank W. Foley, Attorneys, Vancouver, Wash.
Virginia married Jack R. Beale on Aug. 19, 1958. They resided in Vancouver,
Wash. until May 1990, when they moved to Thornton. Virginia was a member of
the Grace Lutheran Church in Vancouver and currently a member of the
Richland Lutheran Church, Thornton. Virginia enjoyed traveling, cooking,
gardening, reading and Danish heritage.
Virginia is survived by two sisters, Polly Schoneman and her husband,
Marion, Thornton, and Judith Lightbody and her husband, Larry, Thornton; two
brothers-in-law, Duane Mabb, Thornton, and Jack D. Stiles, Portland, Ore.;
and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and several cousins.
She also has many other relatives and friends in the Pacific Northwest,
California and Texas.
Virginia is preceded in death by her father, William Schonemann, in 1984;
mother, Grace Worthington Schonemann, in 1997; her husband, Jack Beale, on
Sept. 16, 2000; sisters, Marian Stiles in 1987 and Shirley Mabb in 1997.
Gladys Pauline Whitehurst
Gladys Pauline Whitehurst, 76, of
Mason City, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at the Manly Care Center.
Memorial services were held Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at the Bride Colonial
Chapel, Manly, with the Rev. Robert Cumings of the Bethel United Methodist
Church officiating. Inurnment will be private at a later date in the Ventura
Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.
Gladys Pauline Whitehurst was born on Aug. 26, 1927, in Kirksville, Mo., the
daughter of Charles and Cleo Lowe. She attended and received her education
in the Mason City School system. After completing her schooling she worked
at the Park Hospital in Mason City before writing news articles for the
Ventura News Paper, and also worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City
for 11 years. She was united in marriage to Orvin Keith Whitehurst in
October 1945.
She enjoyed crocheting, cross word puzzles, crafts, collecting clowns, and
going to garage sales, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and
grandchildren.
She was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary Whitehurst and his wife,
Genelle, of Clear Lake, Jerry Whitehurst and his wife, Jane, of Ollie, Iowa,
Sandra Rye and her husband, Harold, of Lake City, Minn., Dennis Whitehurst
and his wife, Cheryl, of Clear Lake, Doug Whitehurst and his wife, Norma, of
Clear Lake, David Whitehurst and his wife, Sandra, of Clear Lake, Randy

Mike Whitehurst and his wife, Lynette, of Manly; 26 grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frieda Rezab and her husband, Norman, of
Plymouth, and Verna Angel and her husband, Jesse, of Mason City; a brother,
Charles Lowe, of Clear Lake; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Steven; a
granddaughter, Ann Marie; six brothers and sisters, Roland, Harley, J.C.,
and Donald Lowe, Thelma Bailey, and Delma Huntley.
Forrest Leroy "Frosty" Roberts
Forrest Leroy "Frosty" Roberts, 95,
of 211 E. Main, Fertile, Iowa, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral Services were
held Monday, Oct.13, at the Church of Christ, Fertile with Pastor Curt
Gallmeyer and Pastor Dennis Ganz officiating. Interment will be at Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of
North Iowa.
Forrest was immersed in baptism and became a member of the Church of Christ
in March 1999. He was born Sept. 26, 1908, at Colo, Iowa, the only child of
Burt Leroy Roberts and Emma (Bartlett) Roberts. When Forrest was three
months old his father died at the age of 24 of spinal meningitis. In 1912
his mother married Orlan Whitmore and in later years they moved to the
Fertile area.
Forrest "Frosty" attended the Fertile school and also drove school bus as a
student. He was a 1927 graduate of the Fertile High School.
He was united in marriage to Viola Miller on Dec. 20, 1933 in Mason City. To
this union were born three children, Wayne Roberts, Donald Roberts and
Joanne (Roberts) Zrostlik.
Their first home was on a 40-acre farm east of Pine City, Minn., which they
farmed for three years. In 1936 they bought a farm three miles south east of
Fertile and moved there March 1, 1937. They farmed there for 30 years.
Forrest "Frosty" also drove semi while still on the farm and for several
years after moving to Fertile he hauled Borden's ice cream. Frosty was a
hard worker and he loved to work.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Viola Roberts, of Fertile and two sons,
Wayne Roberts and his wife, Jean, Clear Lake, and Donald Roberts and his
wife, Peggy, of Chico, Calif.; one daughter, Joanne Zrostlik and her
husband, Richard, of Shell Rock, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Allyn Roberts,
Debra and her husband, Jim, Scott, Kevin and his wife, Kim, Roberts, Air
Force Capt. Michael and his wife, Deborah, Zrostlik, Rick and his wife, Dr.
Julie, Zrostlik, Dianne and her husband, David, Suntken, Leanne Zrostlik,
Steven, Scott, Ellen Roberts, and Cheryl (Roberts) and husband, Gordon
Olson; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; several
step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Whitmore and wife, Lena, of
Liscomb, IA; two sisters Ethel Jackson and husband, Ralph of Garwin, Iowa;

Wayne was born Jan. 12, 1922 at Clear Lake, the son of Guy and Viola (Lundy)
Coyier. Wayne was raised in Clear Lake and following high school he entered
the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He received the
Purple Heart and following service returned to Clear Lake and married Mary
Millard Oct. 26, 1947 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner, Iowa. Wayne
was the owner and operator of Coyier's Service Station & Wrecker Service in
Clear Lake until his retirement in the late 1990's. Wayne enjoyed watching
the Hawkeyes and Twins and was a member of the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Mary Coyier of Clear Lake; a daughter, Julie
Schroder and her husband, Rod, of Sibley, Iowa; two sons, Tom Coyier and his
wife, Wendie, of Mason City, and Jack Coyier and his wife, Angie, of Venice,
Calif.; seven grandchildren, Matthew Helmers and his wife, Molly, of Ames,
Iowa, Betsy Helmers, of Ankeny, Iowa, Chad Kickbush and his wife, Angela, of
Grundy Center, Iowa, Shannon Teeling and her husband, Roger, of
Mechanicsville, Iowa, Heather Schroder and Justin Schroder both of
Plattsburg, Mo. and Jon Schroder of Calif.; four great-grandchildren,
Addison, Camden, and Caden Kickbush, and Brynn Teeling; one sister, Vivian
Greensweig of Charles City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gordon Coyier.

Dale Robert (Skip) Geidner, 45, of
400 Highway 18 W., Clear Lake, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ,
Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa West Campus, Mason
City, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, October 23,
6:30 p.m., at Open Bible Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsaker
officiating. Visitation with friends will begin at 5:30 p.m. (one hour prior
to the service) Following the service, a dinner will be served in fellowship
hall. Skip wishes memorials be given to the Open Bible Church.
Skip was born Feb. 17, 1958 in Hinsdale, Ill., the son of Clarence and
Marybell (Bingman) Geidner. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1976
and the Vocational School in Faribault, Minn. with a two year degree.
He worked for Hanson's Marine as a mechanic. After being diagnosed with M.S.
in 1991, he started working for NAPA. He taught snowmobile classes and was
past president of North Iowa Snowmobile Club. He was a member of Open Bible
Church, an elder of the church and a member of the men's group. He enjoyed
baking bread for visiting families of the church and 'Family's of the Week'.
After giving his life to Jesus Christ eight years ago, it was his faith in
Jesus that sustained him through his battles with M.S.
He is survived by many friends and family.

Norman P. Larson
Norman P. Larson, 84,
of 1511 W. 6th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at the
Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct.
21, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake with the Rev. Derik Yarian
officiating. Military honors were led by the Clear Lake VFW. Inurnment was
at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Norman P. Larson
Memorial Fund.
Norman was born in rural Joice, Iowa, the son of Lauritz and Anna (Storre)
Larson. Norman graduated from Joice High School in 1936, and farmed with his
parents until serving in the Army Air Corp. during WWII. After his discharge
from the service he returned to farming. Norman married Marilyn H. Bolstad
on Oct 14, 1951 at Webster City, Iowa and they continued to farm until they
moved to Lake Mills, Iowa where he worked for Kingland Motors.
He moved to Clear Lake and worked for Winnebago Industries as coordinator of
the Employee's Suggestion Program until his retirement in the 80's.
Norman enjoyed listening to Big Band Music and dancing. He was an avid Twins
fan, as well as a fan of all sports. Norman was Toastmaster of the year in
1974 at Winnebago and a member of Shibboleth Toastmasters in Mason City. He
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and sang in the choir. He was a gentle
man and gentleman.
Norman is survived by his wife, Marilyn H. Larson, of Clear Lake; a brother,
Wallace Larson and his wife, Beverly, of Forest City, Iowa; a sister, Maynis
Aamodt and her husband, Carroll, of Northwood, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Dorothy
Larson, of Mason City, Iowa, Ruth Flugum, Forest City, Iowa, Alvira
Thompson, Mondovi, Wis. and Esther Bolstad, Lake Mills, Iowa;
brother-in-law, Carroll Bolstad, Newhall, Calif. and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeRoy Larson and
Royden Larson; one sister, Ivanell McKissik and a brother-in-law, Russell
Bolstad.

Beulah M. (Myre) Thompson
Beulah M. (Myre) Thompson,
age 84, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct.
21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa, with the Rev. Lee
Laaveg officiating. Burial was at West Prairie Cemetery in rural Thompson,
Iowa.
Beulah M. (Myre) Thompson was born on the Myre farm west of Forest City on
June 23, 1919, the daughter of Clarence J. D. and Mildred (Hagenson) Myre.
She was baptized at the Synod Lutheran Church in the country west of
Thompson, Iowa.
She was married to Newton Charles Thompson on Nov. 17, 1946. To this union
three children were born: Pamela Kay, Charles Newton and Steven Ray.
Beulah was an active member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was a
wonderful cook (especially her pies and cakes) and she enjoyed driving and
traveling. Beulah treasured time spent with her family and she loved to
visit with her friends over coffee. She has made her home in Clear Lake
since 1973.
Beulah leaves behind a daughter, Pamela K. and her partner, Lori, of Clear
Lake, a son, Steven R. and his wife, Toni of Grandview, Wis.; two
granddaughters, Kristian Kay and Vanessa Eileen and a sister, Vivian
Wallrich, of Long Beach, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lila Maxine; her son,
Charles, and his father, Newton, and a brother, Norman S. Myre.

41, 221 South Schmidt Avenue, Marshfield, Wis., died on Monday, Oct. 20,
2003, at her home surrounded by her family.
Memorial services were held Friday, Oct. 24, at Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church in Marshfield with the Rev. Peter Ruggles, officiating.
Memorial services will be held in Clear Lake at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at
Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Ellen was born on March 17, 1962 to Delano and Harriet (Jones) Winter in
LeMars, Iowa.
She moved to Clear Lake when she was in the first grade. She graduated from
Clear Lake High School in 1980 where she was both a cheerleader and a member
of the marching band. She attended Wartburg College for one year and she
received her nursing degree from NIACC in 1983. She worked as a hospital
nurse, a clinic nurse, and a school nurse in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and
Iowa.
Ellen married Dan Morehouse on May 30, 1983 at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua, Iowa. To this union were born three children; Sean, Megan, and Erin.
She was active in several book clubs, was on the altar care committee at her
church, and volunteered at Washington School in Marshfield.
Ellen is lovingly survived by her husband, Dan; three children, Sean of
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Megan and Erin both at home; her parents, Del and
Harriet Winters of Clear Lake, Iowa; her grandmother, Iris Ong of Clear
Lake; four sisters, Susan (Dave) Latta, Plymouth, Minn., Karen (Craig)
Shayer, Indianola, Iowa, Lisa (Jeff) Anderson, Ames, Iowa and Lori (Kirk)
Muhlenbruck, Northfield, Minn. She is further survived by 13 nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Herman and Meta Winter,
Harrod and Helen Jones and Florence Klinge.

Karen A. Monson, 35,
of 709 South Eighth Street, Clear Lake, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at the
University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held
10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be at Clear Lake Cemetery.

Karen Ann, the daughter of Daniel and Phyllis (Brandt) Sobek, was born April
29, 1968 at Mason City, Iowa. Karen was baptized and confirmed at St. John's
Lutheran Church in rural Garner. She was raised in rural Klemme, Iowa,
graduating from Klemme High School in 1986. During high school she was a
cheerleader as well as being very active in 4-H, band, choir, and drama. She
was also a member of the LYC of St. John's Lutheran Church. She attended
college at NIACC and UNI, graduating from UNI in 1991 with a degree in
elementary education. Karen taught in the Audubon School District for one
year after college. Karen was united in marriage to David Monson on July 18,
1992 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. David and Karen made their home
in Clear Lake, where she was an associate teacher and substitute teacher for
the Clear Lake School District. In 1995 Karen began teaching second grade
full time at Lincoln Elementary School. She received the Golden Apple Award
in 1999. She will always be remembered for her laughter and enthusiasm for
children and for her dedication to teaching. She was a member of the St.
John's Lutheran Church of rural Garner.
Karen's greatest love was her husband and her children. Above all, the needs
of her husband and children were given first priority. Her love for them was
unconditional. She was very involved with all of their activities such as
ice-skating, dance, piano, and Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She also enjoyed
scrap booking and working out.
Karen is survived by her husband, David; children, Katie, Alec, and Joey all
of Clear Lake; her mother and father, Daniel and Phyllis Sobek, of Klemme;
sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Jeffry Juhl, of Cedar Falls;
brothers, Jonathan Sobek of Iowa City, Iowa and Philip Sobek, of Des Moines,
Iowa; father-in-law, Ronald Monson and his wife, Mary Ellen; sisters-in-law,
Julie and Hannah Monson, all of Clear Lake; brothers-in-law, Kevin Monson,
of Clear Lake and Bob Monson, of Waukee, Iowa. Also surviving is her
grandmother, Antonia Brandt of Osage; several aunts and uncles, nieces and
nephews and many, many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John Brandt and George and
Anna Sobek; mother-in-law, Grace Monson and sister-in-law Brenda Monson.
John Edward Philippe
John Edward Philippe
was born in Mason City, Iowa on July 29, 1922. He died Oct. 24, 2003 in
Oceanside, Calif. He was 81. Although born in Mason City, Iowa, John lived
most of his early life in Clear Lake, where he attended school and was
active in sports. He served as a flight officer in the United States Army
Air Corp during World War II. Later he moved to California and worked in the
construction industry until his retirement.
He is survived by two brothers, Philip Philippe of Lincoln, Calif.; Marion
Philippe and his wife, Mary, of Tuscon, Az.; a nephew, Terence, of Lincoln,
Calif.
Preceding him in death were his sister, Clotilde and brother, Paul. His
parents were Marion Greene and Margaret Neville Philippe.

Danette Swanson, Spencer, Iowa, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m., at
Grace United Methodist Church, Spencer.
Dawn Danette Swanson, the daughter of Dallas and Sharon Luft Bauer, was born
Jan. 6, 1960 in Fort Campbell, Ky. Her childhood years were spent in various
Iowa communities. She attended high school in Britt, Iowa and Clear Lake.
She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1978.
Dawn married Randy Eugene Swanson on July 25, 1981 in Spencer, Iowa.
Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer, where she worked at UPS for
14 years and was co-owner of Audio Video Connection with her husband, Randy.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
Dawn passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at the
age of 43. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jinger Jo; both sets of
grandparents, Peter and Fern Bauer and Howard and Lucille Luft; one niece,
Abigail Gould and one nephew, Gabriel Gould.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Randy, of Spencer; two sons,
Spencer James and Brady Dallas Swanson, both of Spencer; her mother, Sharon
Bauer of Coulter, Iowa; her father, Dallas Bauer of LaMesa, N.M.; two
brothers and their wives, Howard and Julie Bauer of Belmond, Iowa and Bret

Doyle was born Feb. 6, 1960, to Richard and Irene (Brynsaas) Zuck in
Decorah, Iowa. He graduated from Humboldt high School in 1989. After
graduation he made his home in California. he began working with Fluidmaster,
Inc., in an entry level position, and over a period of 20-some years "worked
his way to the top." He became successful as a national manager.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Carol-Anne; two children, Samantha and
Vanessa; his mother, Irene Zuck, Humboldt; a sister, Brenda
Huntly-Kruckenberg and her husband, Brian, Clear Lake; two brothers, Kevin
and Holly Zuck, Decorah, and Todd and Kris Zuck, Hillsboro, Ill.; six
nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard L. Zuck; grandparents,
Claire and Merna Zuck; and Henry and Mildred Brynsaas.
