Raymond L.
NelsonRaymond L. Nelson,
86, of Clear Lake, died Nov. 30, 2003 at the IOOF home in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3, 10:30 a.m. at the Zion
Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess and
Rev. Steve Buchholz officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:30
p.m. at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Britt, Iowa.
Raymond, son of Emil and Nellie (Nelson) Nelson was born March 31, 1917 on a
farm west of Britt. He attended country school in Hancock County. Raymond
was married to Donna M. Doughan on Oct. 27, 1942. He was married 61 years.
Raymond worked for Farmers Dairy, Montgomery Wards (20 years), and the Mason
City Airport (14 years). In retirement, he drove a school bus for 14 years
for Clear Lake Community Schools.
Memberships included Zion Lutheran Church and the IOOF Lodge. In his free
time Ray enjoyed going to coffee with work associates.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 61 years, Donna M. Nelson, Clear Lake;
son, Rollan R. Nelson, Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Becky Buchholz and her
husband, the Rev. Dr. Steve, Jefferson City, Mo.; granddaughter, Anne, and
her husband, Kevin Bennett; Maryville, Mo.; grandson, Chris Buchholz,
Jefferson City, Mo.; brother, Donald Nelson and his wife, Joy, Clear Lake;
sisters-in-law, Grace Nelson, Britt, and Betty Lou Nelson, Britt. Other
family members include his brother-in-law, Allan Doughan and his wife,
Frances, Britt; sister-in-law, Bonnie Doughan, Britt, sister-in-law, Marcie
Doughan and several nieces and nephews. Ray will be sadly missed by his
family.
Memorials may be given to the IOOF home, Mason City, or Hospice, Mason City,
or to the donor's choice.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister and an
infant son.

Robert C. Thompson
Robert C. Thompson, M.D.,
5073 South Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died of pulmonary lung cancer at his home
on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003. The cancer had been diagnosed on Oct. 16, 2003.
Robert was born on March 12, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His parents were
John and Ruth Thompson.
Bob attended The University Of Iowa and graduated in 1972 as a Doctor of
Medicine with a specialty in Family Practice. He began his career in Eldora,
Iowa, and for the past 16 years has been practicing Family Medicine in
Grundy Center until his retirement on Oct. 16, 2003. He devoted his life to
his family, his practice and his patients.
Bob and Diane Tjaden Thompson were married on July 25, 1975. Their children
are Bradley and Anne Marie (Aggie).
Other surviving family members are: Eric Budreau, Doug and Linda Thompson
and family, Joni Thompson and family, Tim and Andy Tjaden, Susan and Dick
Breed, and Marian Tjaden.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the United Methodist Church,
Grundy Center. Memorials will be directed to Grundy County Memorial Hospital
Foundation in Grundy Center or North Iowa Hospice in Mason City. Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

46, died at his home, 10586 Balsam Ave, Ventura, Iowa, Tuesday, Dec. 2,
2003. Funeral Services were held Saturday at the United Methodist Church,
Ventura, with Pastor Audrey Westendorf Young officiating. Interment was at
the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Kim was born the son of Lloyd W. & Betty (Pollock) McKinnon on Feb. 12, 1957
at Burlington, Iowa. Kim received his education from the Ventura School
System and graduated from Ventura High School. Kim started trucking
following high school and was owner-operator for 21 years. His last 14 years
he drove for Smithway out of Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Kim enjoyed spending time with
his son, Nathan, his nieces and nephews and his friend's children. He also
enjoyed snowmobiling, and was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan. He was fun
loving and liked practical jokes. Kim hosted 4th of July parties for his
friends, family and neighborhood. Kim was a member of the United Methodist
Church in Ventura.
Kim is survived by his mother, Betty McKinnon, of Ventura; son, Nathan M.
McKinnon, Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Tina Ford and her husband, Roy, of Cedar
Falls, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Scott Davis, Cedar Falls, Angie Davis, Iowa
City, Iowa and Joy Winkowitsch and her husband, Todd, Cedar Falls; a special
friend, Pam Adams, Sioux City, Iowa; uncles, Dick Pollock and his wife,
Sandi, New London, Iowa and Ray Pollock and his wife, Harriett, San Jose,
Calif.; one aunt, Joan Peer and her husband, Bob, Orange, Calif.; his
grandmother, Florence Irene Pollock, New London, Iowa and a special pet,
"Buddy."
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd McKinnon; grandfather, Harry
Pollock; grandparents, John and Marie McKinnon and aunt, Shirley Pence.

86, of 625 14th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Dennis Ganz officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Evelyn E.
Coyier Memorial Fund.
Evelyn was born July 2, 1917 at Britt, Iowa the daughter of Paul & Mildred
(Clark) Palmer. Her family moved to Clear Lake when Evelyn was in the sixth
grade and she graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1936.
Evelyn married Wesley Coyier July 26, 1936 in Clear Lake. Evelyn started
working for the Clear Lake Bakery in 1948 and worked there until 1980,
retiring as a supervisor. She then worked as a cook for the Oakwood Care
Center for five years. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, handwork, puzzles,
reading, playing cards and riding around the lake.
Evelyn is survived by her children, JoAnn Hughes and her husband, Gary, of
Peoria, Az., Jane Coyier, Clear Lake, Raymond Coyier and his wife, Peggy, of
Powderly, Texas, James Coyier and his wife, Phyllis, of Albertville, Minn.
and Sharon Froiland and her husband, Norman, of Fertile, Iowa; ten
grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and four greatgreat
grandchildren; three brothers, James Palmer and his wife, Kathy, of Mason
City, Iowa, Willard Palmer and his wife, Doris, of Holland, Iowa and Paul
Palmer Jr. and his wife, Loretta, of Web City, Mo.; four sisters, Ruth

be held Saturday, Dec. 20, 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St.,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Interment will be held at

Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Friday, Dec. 19, 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Dennis Ganz
officiating. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation
will be Thursday from 3 - 5 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear
Lake.

Carole Jean Buck,
80, died Dec. 10, 2003 at her home, 714 S. 8th St., Clear Lake. Funeral
services were held Saturday, Dec. 13, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,
Clear Lake. Interment was at held at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Carole, or Jean to the Molencamp family, was born Nov. 17, 1923, the
daughter of Steve and Hilda (Ubben) Molencamp. She married James Buck on
March 1, 1945, at the Glenview Naval Air Station, Chicago, Ill.
Before her marriage, Carole worked as a waitress at Halford's Café. She was
a homemaker and did child care in her home. Carole enjoyed knitting,
gardening, little kids, braiding rugs and cooking.
Carole is survived by her husband, Jim; six children, Susan Mastre and
husband, Keith, Clear Lake, Kathleen Wiele and her husband, Keith, of Culver
City, Calif., Wendy Watt and husband, Jim, of Milford, Iowa, James and his
wife, Sheri, of Simonton, Texas, Betsy Holden and husband, Tim, Clear Lake
and Joseph and his wife, Brenda, Clear Lake; fourteen grandchild and seven
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Thelma Ziesman and
her husband, Russ, Sheffield, Iowa and Sharon Quintus and her husband,
Gordon, Ventura, Iowa; three brothers, Roy Molencamp and wife, Billie,
Rodgers, Minn., Ronald Molencamp and wife, Carol, Ankeny, Iowa and Larry
Molencamp and wife, Sonja, Muscatine, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lou Molencamp,
Fridley, Minn., Janette Buck, Clear Lake, Ruth Coffin, Eyota, Minn., Martha

Michelle Lynn (Shelley) Simmer
Michelle Lynn (Shelley) Simmer,
42, 117 4th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 at her home. A
funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 12, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear
Lake, with the Rev. Derrick Yarian officiating. Interment was held at the
Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Michelle Simmer Memorial
Fund.
Shelley was born Sept. 1, 1961 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Merle
Marshall and Jane Coyier. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1980.
Shelley worked at the Mile Post 194 as a waitress for many years. She also
worked at Martha's Maid Rite.
Shelley married Tom Simmer on Sept 15, 1984 at Zion Lutheran Church.
Shelley loved to listen to music and watch "her stories" (soap operas). She
enjoyed seeing her children in school events and being with them. She also
liked to ride horses and motorcycles. Shelley had battled diabetes for over
32 years, but always had a cheerful outlook. She loved knowing the angels
were always at her side. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Shelley is survived by her husband, Tommy Simmer, Clear Lake; two children,
Jeremy Simmer and his fiancé, Amber Morehead and Jamie Simmer, Clear Lake;
her mother, Jane Coyier, Clear Lake; father, Merle Marshall and his wife,
Beverly, Garner, Iowa; brothers, Mark Marshall and his wife, Karrie, Mason
City, Iowa, Merle "Butch" Marshall Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Garner and Mitch
Marshall and his wife, Stephanie, Port St. John, Fla.; grandmothers, Evelyn
Coyier, Clear Lake, and Luella Marshall, Clear Lake; mother-in-law, Margaret

90, formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 in Lake City, Minn. A
funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 11, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake. The Rev. Dean Hess officiated. Interment was at the
Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Wanda, Minn.
Amanda was born Nov. 3, 1913 in Wanda, Minn. to Max and Elsie (Holznagel)
Darkow. She attended Mankato School of Beauty in Mankato, Minn. On May 15,
1937 she married Paul A. Spalding. They resided in Wanda, Pomeroy, Iowa and
Clear Lake. She moved to Lake City, Minn. in 1995. Amanda was a member of
Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.
She is survived by a son, Nyle Spalding and his wife, Barbara, Cedar Rapids,
Iowa; two daughters, Maxyne Gillice and her husband, Robert, Arvada, Colo.
and Paulette Clare and her husband, Arnie, Reads Landing, Minn.; two
granddaughters, Amy McCormick and her husband, Mike, Boulder, Colo. and Sara
Miller and her husband, Dan, Naperville, Ill.; one great-granddaughter, Ava
Claire Miller; one sister, Rosemary Bloedow, Redwood Falls, Minn. and many
nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband and one sister, Irene

William John (Bill) Dockstader
William John (Bill) Dockstader,
46, of Clear Lake, Iowa died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at Hospice Of North
Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at a later time.
Bill was born in Rapid City, S.D. the son of Darrell and Janet (Herrlein)
Dockstader.
After graduating from Ventura High School he entered the United States Navy
and was stationed in Florida. Following the service in the Navy he lived in
Daytona Beach and later the Jacksonville, Fla. area.
Bill was recently diagnosed with cancer and moved back to Iowa to be closer
to his family.
He loved fishing, the outdoors, living around the ocean and especially the
warm weather.
Bill will be sadly missed by his mother, Janet Dockstader, Clear Lake; four
brothers, Daniel Dockstader and his wife, Connie, Lebanon, Ill., Steven
Dockstader, Mason City, Iowa, Scott Dockstader and his wife, Maureen, Ames,
Iowa, Matt Dockstader and his wife, Natasha, Olathe, Ks.; his sister, Jackie
Bailey, Mason City; seven nieces, Jennifer Neal and her husband, Phillip,

James S. Ludeman,
79, of 1000 N. Eisenhower Avenue, Mason City, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003
at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Memorial services were held
Saturday, Dec. 13, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ,
Mason City, with the Rev. Samuel Hamilton-Poore officiating. Private family
inurnment services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to
Lime Creek Nature Center, Hospice of North Iowa, First Congregational United
Church of Christ or donor's choice.
James was born Oct. 15, 1924 in Mason City, the son of George and Avis (Pedelty)
Ludeman. He graduated from Mason City High School and attended Mason City
Junior College and Hamilton School of Business. James enlisted in the US
Army in 1943 serving in England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany
where he fought in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe battles and
campaigns. He received a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1946.
James returned home and married Carole F. Hutchens April 13, 1947 at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked as an abstract and real estate
broker before he began farming. He farmed for 47 years, retiring in 1978.
James was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Farm
Bureau, North Iowa Beef Producers, Iowa Woolgrowers Association, 4-H
Leaders, North Iowa Rod & Gun Club, Lime Creek Nature Center and the
American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Carole E. Ludeman, Mason City; daughters,
Candice Marshall and husband, Pat, Clear Lake, Pamela Downing and husband,
Mike, White Bear Lake, Minn., Kristine Gatewood and husband, Steve,
Brownsville, Texas, Joy Under Baggage, Rapid City, S.D.; grandchildren,
Sarah, Amy, Richard, Katie, John, Dustin, Jacob and Daniel;
great-grandchildren, Mia and Kacie; sister, Georgia Ludeman of Mason City.

72, of Hampton, Iowa, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 at Franklin General
Hospital, Hampton, Iowa.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Dec. 17, 4 - 7 p.m., at the Sietsema
Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, Iowa. Funeral service will be held Thursday,
Dec. 18, 10:30 a.m. at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home with Pastor David
Nelson. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
Rosemary was born May 15, 1931 in Hampton to Randolph and Maude (Lumley)
Zeiger. She attended high school in Swaledale, Iowa. She married Ivol Wayne
Snider and was a homemaker.
She enjoyed taking nature
walks, playing cards, dancing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Kirk and his wife, Liz, Mathews, Hampton; two
daughters, Karmen McPherren, Clear Lake, and Jolene and her husband, Larry
Huinker, West Union, Iowa; a special friend, Joe Boelkes, Hampton; seven
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Doug.
Patricia Ruth Samosky
Patricia Ruth Samosky,
70, 15278 Oakwood Ave., Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003 at the
Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were
held Saturday, Dec. 20, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.
Pastor Thomas Healey officiated. Following the service the body was
cremated. Memorials may be given to the Patricia R. Samosky Memorial Fund.
Patricia was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of
Stanley and Lucille (Roth) Decker. She graduated from East High School, Des
Moines. Pat married Vern F. Daggett and lived in Des Moines. She later
married Marvin Samosky. She worked for Empire Builders in Des Moines for 33
years as an office manager. She also worked for Universal Express. Pat moved
to Clear Lake in the early 1990's and worked at Opportunity Village.
Pat really lived for her family. She enjoyed playing games with her kids and
grandkids and shopping with the grandkids. She was a great cook, loved
bowling, puzzles and fishing on the lake. She was a "reader" and spent time
at the library. She also loved to watch old mystery movies and was proud to
be an avid Hawkeye Fan.
Pat is survived by her two daughters, Karen Burnett and her husband, Jeff
Roe, Clear Lake, and Lynn Daggett and her fiancé, Alex Dowidchuk, Lake
Zurich, Ill.; two grandchildren, David Bozarth and his girlfriend, Susan,
Clear Lake and Craig Burnett, Iowa City, Iowa; six great-children, Colten
and Chris Bozarth, Shelby, Nicholas and Samantha Jo Burnett, and Bryan
McCrea; and one brother, Wayne Decker and his wife, JoAnn, Des Moines.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Roy Kenneth
Decker.

76, of 1805 N. 8th St., Clear Lake, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at the Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 20, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear
Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake

Center of Mercy Medical Center.
Orvin was born July 31, 1927, the son of Noah E. and Zora Nell (Wyant)
Whitehurst at rural Britt, Iowa. Orvin attended school in Britt and Garner,
Iowa. Orvin married Gladys Lowe on Oct. 13, 1945, and then entered the US
Army Oct. 18, 1945. He served in the Military Police during WWII and
following the service moved back to Ventura, Iowa. He drove truck and helped
farm for Lloyd Law. He later drove transport for Skelly Oil Co,. later known
as Skelgas, for 27 years. In 1961 he moved to a farm northwest of Clear
Lake. Orvin married Janice Gelner on May 5, 1975 at Pittsfield, Ill., and in
1980 moved to California and worked at Costa Mesa Memorial Hospital. In 1988
they retired and moved back to Clear Lake. He enjoyed his horses, dogs,
cats, and woodworking, as well as rounding up cattle in North Dakota. Orvin
was well known for his jokes, clever stories, his smirk and spending time
with his family and friends.

Kathryn S. Koch,
90, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 at Muse-Norris Hospice of
North Iowa, Mason City. Funeral services were held at Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Friday, Dec. 19, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz,
officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given to
the Kathryn Koch Memorial Fund.
Kathryn was born Dec. 29, 1913, in Clarion, Iowa, the oldest daughter of
Samuel E. and Madge Hilda Mechem Shannon (Johnson).
Kathryn was married to her first husband, Galen Hauge, on Sept. 13, 1933, in
Webster City, Iowa. Galen passed away on March 21, 1965.
Kathryn was a member of various groups and organizations. She strongly
supported the Democratic Party and in the early 1950's, ran for Hancock
County Recorder. She was a 4-H leader, belonged to the Garfield Township
Community Club and was active in the Hancock County Farm Bureau. After
moving to Ventura and Clear Lake, she graduated from Mason City Junior
College with an Associate in Arts Degree. For a number of years she taught
school, was a census enumerator, member of the Key-Notes, member of the Wa-Tan-Ye
Club, was in the Clear Lake Women's Club, and enjoyed art and poetry clubs
in Clear Lake. Kathryn had her poetry book, entitled "'Nuff Said," published
in January, 2003. She loved homemaking, was an excellent cook and baker and
had a flair for interior design. She was a very talented musician and
enjoyed playing her organ and piano. She played the organ at several
Governor's Balls in Clear Lake and played for various functions throughout
North Iowa. Kathryn was a true humanitarian and thoughtfully remembered all
the birthdays of her family, including grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Kathryn was married to Homer Hitchcock and, lastly, to Dean Koch. For a
number of years she resided in her home in Clear Lake and enjoyed the
companionship of her youngest son, Tony.
Survivors include her three surviving children and their spouses, Gary Hauge
and his wife, Marieluise, of Ocala, Fla.; Cynthia Wolfram and her husband,
Robert, of Ventura, and Tony Hauge, of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan Tyler; her sister,
Margaret Eileen Lauster, and her three husbands.
Kathryn will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends, many
with whom she maintained close contact.

67, 813 6th Pl. N., Clear Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003 at the Mercy
Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held
Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Jan Burnett officiating. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials
may be given to the Bonnie Miller Memorial Fund.
Bonnie was born Aug. 24, 1936 in Clear Lake, the daughter of Lloyd and Ina
(Edwards) Miller. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1955 and
attended LaJames College. Bonnie operated a beauty parlor in Bode, Iowa from
1959 1962 and Bonnie's Beauty Shop in Lake Mills from 1962 1991.
Bonnie enjoyed genealogy of her family. She loved her family and especially
her nieces and nephew. She was a caregiver for her aunts and several other
people. Bonnie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.
Bonnie is survived by two brothers, LaVern Miller and his wife, Pearl, Clear
Lake and Dwayne Miller and his wife, Ardith, Charles City, Iowa; a sister,
Dorothy Heimendinger and her husband, Orville, Osage, Iowa; eleven nieces
and a nephew; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and special to Bonnie, Aunt
Irene Miller, Clear Lake, and nephew, Kenneth Heimendinger, Orchard, Iowas.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Orville Miller.

John "Jack" Philip Furleigh
John "Jack" Philip Furleigh,
68, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the USA Health Care Center
in Mason City.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at St.
Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan
officiating. Military honors will be by members of the United States Marine
Corps and by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Clear Lake.
Inurnment will be at a later date in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
The family of Jack Furleigh has requested that memorial contributions be
made to the American Legion Boys State, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, or to
Opportunity Village in Clear Lake in his memory.
Jack Furleigh was born on Dec. 24, 1934, in Clear Lake, the son of Philip
and Anna (Heidenreich) Furleigh. He attended and received his education in
the Clear Lake School system, graduating from Clear Lake High School. He was
inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps on July 1, 1953, in Des Moines and was
honorably discharged on June 30, 1956, in Miami, Fla. After his honorable
discharge, Jack came back to the north Iowa area and attended and graduated
from NIACC in Mason City, and also graduated from the University of Iowa
with a B.A. degree. After completing his schooling he worked for State Farm
Insurance in Mason City, and also worked for Allied Group Insurance in Des
Moines until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to Jean Diesburg on Jan. 7, 1968, in Sioux Falls,
S.D.
Jack was very active in doing volunteer work for Opportunity Village in
Clear Lake, and the American Legion Boy's State. He enjoyed hunting and
fishing with his family.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, past
commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Clear Lake, and was very
active in the Republican Party in Iowa.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Philip Edward Furleigh and his
wife, Margaret, of Minneapolis, Minn., James "Tony" Anthony Furleigh and his
wife, Laura, of Mason City, Janelle Marie Holland and son-in-law, Anthony,
Holland of Woden, Iowa, and Curt Thompson and his wife, Dona, of Forest
City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Steven Thompson, Josh Holland, Patrick
Furleigh, Katherine and Gabrielle Furleigh; brothers and sister, Phyllis
Pederson, Lake Mills, Iowa, Roberta Goodman and her husband, Richard,
Urbandale, Iowa, Richard Furleigh and his wife, Dorothy, Oelwein, Iowa,

71, of 200 North Shore Drive, Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003 at the
Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held
Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Dean Hess officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery, with
military honors by the Clear Lake VFW. Memorials may be left to Hospice of
North Iowa, KCMR, Zion Lutheran Church, ISU Companion Animal Fund, Clear
Lake Public Library or charity of your choice.
Richard was born the son of Olaf A. and Alice Izetta (Fletcher) Anderson, on
Feb. 7, 1932 at rural Eagle Grove, Iowa. Richard graduated from Eagle Grove
High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Army in November 1952,
and was discharged in September of 1954. After his military service he was
employed for twenty years in men's retail clothing business at Leuthold
Company in Eagle Grove, Iowa and Platteville, Wisconsin. He later worked for
St. Clair Starks in Mason City, Iowa. Richard married Karen Griffith, Sept.
5, 1959, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. In 1987 Richard
began driving van for Northern Trails AEA, retiring in 1997.
In 1944 Richard was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Holmes Lutheran
Church. Richard was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing baseball and softball
for Eagle Grove City League, watching Fox News channel, tennis, WWE
wrestling. He was a member of Heritage Foundation, Zion Lutheran Church, and
a charter member of Rush Limbaugh's "The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy".
Richard is survived by his wife, Karen Anderson, of Clear Lake; daughter,
Laura Toohey and her husband, Vern, of Britt, Iowa; son, Mitch Anderson of
East Wallingford, Vt.; two grandchildren, Ashley Phinney, Clear Lake, and
Meagan Anderson, Forest City, Iowa; a sister, Ruby Jayne Smith and her
husband, Dale M. of Eagle Grove; mother-in-law, Mildred Griffith, Clarion
Care Center, Clarion, Iowa; several nieces and nephews, and his special
Yorkie companion, Oliver Richard Anderson.
His parents and his father-in-law, Cecil Griffith, preceded Richard in
death.

94, of Garner, Iowa died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at the Concord Care Center,
Garner.
His funeral was Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner
with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Music will be provided by organist,
Louise Boehnke and soloist, Marilyn Hayes. Ushers will be Bill Boehnke and
Tom Boehnke. Casket bearers will be Robert Boehnke, Philip Boehnke, Carol
Chiko, Mark Boehnke, Dale Boehnke and Carrol Boehnke. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
Arthur Emil Boehnke, the son of Carl August and Mathilda (Dorow) Boehnke,
was born Nov. 2, 1909 on a farm northeast of Garner. He was baptized and
confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Garner. He attended St. John,s
Parochial School and Garner High School. On November 17, 1935 he married
Lillian Margaret Hollatz at St. John,s Lutheran Church. On Nov. 17, 1989,
they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary prior to Lillian's untimely
death on Jan. 2, 1990. They farmed northeast of Garner until 1974, when they
retired and moved into Garner.
Arthur was an active lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was
deacon for six years, Lutheran Laymen's League president for six years,
treasurer for three years, AAL member and president for 10 years, was an
active member of the church Board of Education and was a committed Sunday
school teacher for more than 15 years. Arthur was devoted to his family and
farming and remained active in the community through the Garner Lions Club.
He is survived by his children, Robert A. Boehnke and wife, Karen, of Clear
Lake, Philip C. Boehnke and wife, Sharon, of Garner, Mark A. Boehnke and
wife, Roseann, of Garner, Dale W. Boehnke and wife, Annette of Lewisville,
Texas and Ruth E. Chiko and husband, Carl, of Surrey, B.C., Canada; nine
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;
sisters-in-law, Alice Boehnke of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Laura Boehnke
of Ventura; a brother-in-law, LeRoy Hollatz of Garner; many nieces and
nephews; and other caring relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; his parents; brothers,
Albert, Charles, William, Herman and the Rev. Arnold Boehnke; and a sister,
Tillie Hinrichs.

78, 5851 South Shore Dr., Clear Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at
Muse-Norris Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were
held Monday, Dec. 29, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Dean Hess officiating. Interment was held at Memorial Park Cemetery with
Military Honors by the Clear Lake V.F.W. In lieu of flowers, memorials may
be given to the family.
Art was born March 29, 1925 on a farm southeast of Clear Lake, the son of
Axel and Katherine (Petersen) Juhl. His family moved to Ventura when Art was
in fifth grade. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1942. He played in
all sports in school. Art served in the Army from 1942 1947. He served in
the European Theatre WWII and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and two
Battle Stars. Art married Ruth Winters, June 8, 1947 in Clear Lake. They had
two daughters, Claudia and Connie. They farmed for seven years at Eldora,
Iowa. When they returned to Clear Lake Art worked for Dahlen Transport for
30 years. He served on Local 828 Union Board as Trustee and later as
secretary. He served as the Union Steward at Dahlen Transport for 20 years.
He was also awarded a 30-year Safe Driving Award from the National Safety
Council. Art drove over three million miles accident free.
Art was confirmed and a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a
life member of the V.F.W. Post 4868 where he served as Commander for four
years, Adjutant for eight years, Honor Guard for many years, Clear Lake Noon
Lions and Odd Fellows. He also worked as custodian at the Outing Club, Clear
Lake, for 15 years, a job he loved and enjoyed as well as all the families
living there, who considered him a part of their family.
Art was a "happy go lucky" man, whistled or sang all the time. He loved life
to the fullest extent. He loved his family so much, especially his three
grandkids. They made his life new. He loved all people and had many friends.
Art and Ruth enjoyed 56 years of life together.
Art is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Claudia Michaelis and her
husband, Steve, Stillwater, Minn. and Connie Vitzthum and her husband,
Frank, Algona, Iowa; three grandchildren, Melinda, Michelle and Matthew
Vitzthum; sisters, Alice Thompson, Tacoma, Wash. and Lillian Schlei, Garner,
Iowa; sister-in-law, Ruth Enabit Juhl, Mason City; brother-in-law, Elwood
Pilz, Clear Lake, and sister-in-law, Shirley Ruddick and her husband, Elvin,
Marshalltown, Iowa.

72, Foley, Minn., formerly of Fertile, Iowa, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003,
at home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, 10:30 a.m. at
the Church of Christ, Fertile, with the Rev. Kurt Gallmeyer officiating.
Interment will be at Brush Point Cemetery, Fertile. Memorials may be given
to the Joan Hansmeier Memorial Fund.
Joan was born April 8, 1931, in Foley, Minn., the daughter of William Baker
and Mary Elizabeth (Biggers) Gray.
She graduated from Foley High School. She worked at the Foley Bakery. Joan
was a W.A.C. in the U. S. Army. Joan married Marvin G. Hansmeier on Oct. 8,
1949 in Foley, Minn. They were married 49 years.
Joan and Marvin moved to Fertile in the spring of 1954. She was a bookkeeper
for Fertile Quarry, then later a nurses aid at Good Samaritan Nursing Home,
Forest City, Iowa. She helped her husband as a bookkeeper while he ran the
gas station.
Joan was involved with the Girl Scouts in Fertile. She loved singing and
listening to music, knitting, crocheting, traveling and her pets. Following
her husband's death, she moved back to her hometown of Foley. After
returning home, she was very active in the Presbyterian Church in Foley.
Joan was a member of the Church of Christ in Fertile.
Joan is survived by five sons, Bruce and his wife, Glenna, Clear Lake, Mick
and his wife, Deb, Minneapolis, Minn., Doug and his wife, Lisa, Maple Grove,
Minn., Craig and his wife, Dawn, Fertile, and Todd and his partner, Steve,
Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Joe, Rene, Courtney Maskarina and her
husband, Shane, Brent, Shane, Dan, Tara, Abby and John; three
great-grandchildren, Taylor, Shelbey and Hayden Maskarina; and one brother,
Les Gray and his wife, Mary, San Bernardino, Calif.; and numerous nieces and
nephews.

74, of 523 10th Ave. North, Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 at the
Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Patricia was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Clear Lake. She was the daughter of
Henry Earnest and Alvena Leone (Pedersen) Neal. She attended grades K-10 at
Clear Lake and graduated from Mansfield High School, Mansfield, Mo.
Patricia married John Junior Bledsoe, of Hartville, Mo., on Dec. 28, 1946 in
Mountain Home, Ark. She and John had five children, Roger A. Bledsoe and
wife, Nancy, Coon Rapids, Minn., Donna S. Prescott and husband, Marvin, Lake
Mills, Iowa, John David Bledsoe and wife, Barbara, Galesburg, Ill., Linda M.
Dickersbach and husband, Steven, Malvern, Iowa and Steven D. Bledsoe and
wife, Kathy, Clear Lake. She had 10 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sisters, Marjorie Nyhus,
Margarett Beard and Elizabeth DeMeritt. She is survived by her sister, Janet
(Melvin) Schroeder of Seymour, Mo.
She had many interests and hobbies. Patricia and John loved to garden and
grew many varieties of flowers and produce. She enjoyed the butterflies,
squirrels, hummingbirds, wrens, cardinals and the occasional turkey that
took advantage of their gardens and feeders.
Patricia worked at the Clear Lake Bakery for 12 years and was a waitress at
several local restaurants. Her award-winning pies, other baked goods and
candies were much sought after at farmers markets.
She was an avid reader and skilled Scrabble player. She loved to camp and
fish with family and friends, and to play with her grandchildren. She
remains greatly loved and dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, her family asks that memorials be made to the Hospice of
North Iowa Center.
Interment will be at a later date.

96, passed away Dec. 23, 2003 in Glendale, Calif. Graveside services will be

Burnett of Clear Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of the graveside service.
John was born in Clear Lake, Iowa the son of John and Maude (Hibel) Johnson.
He graduated from Clear Lake High School.
John was a longtime Glendale resident and was a retired draftsman (50 years)
with Lockheed Aircraft. He was a member of North Glendale United Methodist
Church and the I.O.O.F. Odd Fellows Lodge #187, Clear Lake.
Several cousins survive John. He was preceded in death by his parents and
sister, Gladys Johnson, June 10, 1999.

Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Interment will be held at the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday from 5 -7 p.m. at
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Memorials may be

Susan was born Aug. 6, 1946 in Mason City, the daughter of Ernest and Leona
(Marchand) Roth. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1964. Susan
attended Hamilton College in Mason City. Susan married Robert Eggers. She
drove for GAF and helped manage her father's business as Ernie's Smoke Shop
and later John's Smoke Shop. Susan later went back to Hamilton College and
earned her degree. She then worked for IMI Cornelius in Mason City in the
Custom Order Dept.
Susan married Guy Dietz on Feb. 18, 1989 at the United Methodist Church,
Clear Lake. She loved her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, her
dogs and cat, shopping and celebrating birthdays and Christmas with her
family. She was involved in softball, pool and dart leagues for many years.
Susan was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake and a past
member of the Clear Lake Evening Lions.
Susan is survived by her husband, Guy Dietz, Clear Lake; son, Bob Eggers and
his wife, Vicki, and their daughter, Megan, Mason City; two daughters, Susan
Borremans and her husband, Eric, West Allis, Wis. and Timilyn Hunzelman and
her husband, David, and their daughters, Madelyn and Sophie, Chesterton,
Ind.; brother, James Roth and his wife, Judy, Vancouver, Wash.; her aunts
and uncles, Arthur and Marge Petersen, Mason City, Donna Nelson, Ft. Dodge,
Iowa Dick and Ruth Marchand, Clear Lake, and Marlys Roth, of Iowa and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
