William Joseph Rogers
William Joseph Rogers,
66, of 722 North Tyler, Mason City, died, Wednesday, May
29, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason
City.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 1, at the
Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with the
Rev. William Peak officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park
Cemetery with military flag folding ceremony by the Mason
City Veterans Association.
William Joseph Rogers was born on Dec. 14, 1935, in Van
Buren, Ark., the son of Ruby G. (Knight) Rogers. He
attended and received his elementary education in the Van
Buren, Arkansas school system, graduating from Valley High
School in West Des Moines. While at Valley High he was
involved in many sports activities. William also attended
Grandview College in Des Moines. He was inducted into the
U.S. Army in 1953, and served overseas in the Korean
Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in
1956. He was united in marriage to Janice E. Koelder on
May 25, 1979, in Albert Lea, Minn. William worked for the
Rock Island Railroad, Chicago North Western, and the Union
Pacific Railroad for 39 years and retired in 1997, as a
railroad engineer. He was a member of the B.L.E. Railroad
union.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and woodworking, but his
great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janice Rogers of
Mason City; children and their families, Mark Rogers and
his wife, Julie, of Urbandale, Iowa, Kyle, Brooke, and
Kristen, Arminda Monaghan and her husband, Don, of St.
Charles, Iowa, Allison, Audra, Christina, and Cassandra,
Teresa (Teri) Witter and her husband, Scott, of Mason
City, Stephen, Jonathan, Emily, Chris, and Justin,
Kathleen Berg and her husband, Rick, of West Des Moines,
Justin, Tarrah, Adam, and Valerie, William Rogers and his
wife, Deanne, of Waukee, Iowa, Cole, Luke, Mark, and
Dillon; Renee Boehnke and her husband, Jim, of Clear Lake,
Kelsey and Andrew, Elizabeth Morrell and Sydney of Omaha,
Neb.; Amy Barrantes and her husband, Adrian, of West Des
Moines, Alexandra, Alyssa, and Alivia, Christine Dusold of
Cedar Falls; Dawn Simkins of Cedar Falls, Joshua, Brandon,
and Lindsey; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby.
Marlis O. Wilkinson
Marlis O. Wilkinson
(nee Osnes), 82, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Suburban
Hospital in Bethesda, Md. of chronic lymphocytic leukemia
and pneumonia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on June
22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Bethesda, Md.

Marlis was born in Howard County, Iowa on May 16, 1920,
the daughter of John and Beulah (Paulson) Osnes. The
family farmed in the Clear Lake area for many years. She
graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1938 and attended
Waldorf College. In 1941 she moved to Washington, D.C. to
work for the Department of State. She joined Grace
Lutheran Church, where she met and married William
Wilkinson in 1947. In 1948 they moved to Bethesda, Md.,
where they had four sons.
She is survived by three sons, Dr. John Wilkinson of
Zumbrota, Minn., his wife, Debra, and their children,
Robert, Laura, and Elizabeth; Robert Wilkinson of North
Bethesda, Md. and his partner, Kevin Gowen, and Jeffrey
Wilkinson of Vadnais Heights, Minn., his wife, Wendy and
their daughters Rebecca and Grace. She is also surived by
her daughter-in-law Jacqueline Wilkinson of Independence,
Minn., and her children Kristina, Ian, and Ryan. Her son
James died in 1996, and her husband died in 2001.

Danny Dean White,
46, 3155 Hammond Ave, Waterloo, Iowa, died Sunday June 2,
2002. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 5,
2002, 1 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear
Lake. The Rev. Jerry Miller of the First Church of Open
Bible, will be officiating. Visitation will be held one
hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at the
Clear Lake Cemetery.
Military honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Church of Open Bible, 928 Jefferson St. Waterloo, IA

Danny was born Dec. 1, 1955 in Bushnall, Ill., the son of
Charles Boyd and Ruth (Beatice) White. Following high
school he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the Navy Seals. After his discharge
from the service he worked at Ft. Madison Prison as a
guard. Later he was in auto sales and management for a
number of years. He also drove a truck as well as owning
DaLo Trucking. Danny married Lois Trees Jan. 10, 1990 in
Wausau, Wis. He especially enjoyed being with his family,
fishing and restoring old vehicles.
Danny is survived by his wife, Lois White, Waterloo; six
children, Steve Duesenberg and his wife, Cori, Waterloo,
Tami Staver and her husband, Jim, Waterloo, Derric
Duesenberg and his wife, Jaime, Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
Michelle Duncan and her husband, Ron, Waterloo, Dawn
Androyna and her husband, Michael, Waterloo, and Dana
White, Burlington, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; five brothers, Jerry Smith, Vista,
Calif., Terry White and his wife, Sheri, Quincy, Ill.,
Larry White, Quincy, Randy White, Quincy, Tim White,
Quincy; three sisters, Bonnie Schneider, Quincy, Ruth Ann
Thomanson and her husband, A.J., Carthridge, Ill. and
Kathy White, Quincy.
Danny was preceded in death by his partents; one infant
brother, Charles Edward; one daughter, Lori Ann Wade; and
one great-grandchild, Dalton Trzaskos.

I.O.O. F. Home, Mason City. Funeral arrangements are

nee Warriner, daughter of Howard B. and Lillian Warriner
nee Van Duren, born Jan. 3, 1933, in Greenwood, New York,
entered her heavenly home Friday, May 31, 2002.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 6, at 10 a.m. at
St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner, Iowa with the
Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour
prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John's
Cemetery, rural Garner.
Phyllis was baptized on June 27, 1937, by her grandfather,
the Rev. Peter Van Duren. She graduated from Canisteo
Central School, Canisteo, New York. She served her
country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict
from Feb. 15, 1952 to Jan. 8, 1954.
Phyllis and Clarence Boehnke were married Oct. 4, 1953 in
Minneapolis, Minn. Upon being discharged from the
military, they moved to Iowa where they farmed northeast
of Ventura. In 1961 they moved to Mesa, Az. In 1976 her
husband's occupation took them to Rapid City, S. D. and
upon her husband's retirement they returned to Arizona.
They have resided at 8126 East Monte Ave, Mesa, AZ 85208.
One of her joys in life was working with children and
sharing the love of Jesus Christ through Sunday School,
VBS, and childcare.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Clarence Boehnke,
Mesa, Az.; two children, Gary Boehnke and his wife, Katy
Hawker, St. Louis, Mo.; Cindy Wood and her husband, John
Wood, Chandler, Az.; five grandchildren Josh, Chad, and
Sarah Wood, Winona and Micah Hawker-Boehnke; five
brothers, David Warriner and his wife, Alice Jean,
Greenwood, N. Y., Edmond Warriner and his wife, Lois,
Canisteo, N. Y., Howard Warriner and his wife, Arret,

Lydia Luker,
83, of 154 North Crescent Drive, died Tuesday, June 4,
2002 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason
City.
A funeral service was held Saturday, June 8, at Bethlehem
Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Daird Korth
officiating. Interment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or
Hospice of North Iowa.
Lydia was born July 9, 1918 in Maywood, Ill., the daughter
of Christ J. and Katherine E. (Groh) Heimbuch. She was
baptized into the Lutheran faith on Aug. 25, 1918 and
confirmed on April 9, 1933. She moved to Mason City with
her parents in 1924. They joined Bethlehem Lutheran
Church, where Lydia has been a member ever since. She
taught Sunday school for 46 years, was an active member of
the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Miriam
Circle, served on the church council and the social
concerns committee, and was the church historian. Lydia
was also a member of the Home Improvement Club since 1948
and of the Clear Lake Garden Club for many years. Lydia
was a political activist and worked at many elections. She
also volunteered for the American Cancer and Diabetes
Societies. With all of her many interests, Lydia's
greatest pride and joy was raising her family and enjoying
all their many activities.
Lydia is survived by her husband, Gilbert, of Mason City;
one son, Rohn Luker and his wife, Georgia, of Mason City;
three daughters and their spouses, Marian and Charles
Edelen of Ham Lake, Minn., Jayne and John Cambronne of
Finlayson, Minn., and Katherine and James Bart of
Watertown, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frieda Udelhofen and
Rosie Ficken and her husband, Edwin, all of Mason City;
and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers,
two sisters, two nieces and one nephew.
Irvin Martinus Sorensen
Irvin Martinus Sorensen,
81, of Northwood, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in a
motorcycle accident west of Northwood. A funeral service
was held Saturday, June 8, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, with the Rev. Spencer Thury of Riverside Friends
Church, Mason City, Iowa, officiating. Interment was
held at Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors by the
Clear Lake V.F.W. Memorials may be given to the Irvin M.
Sorensen Memorial Fund.
Irvin was born July 21, 1920, the son of Chris and
Petra (Bach) Sorensen, at their home in Clear Lake. When
Irvin was a small child, the family moved to a farm south
of Clear Lake. He received his education in country
schools, starting south of Clear Lake. Later the family
moved to a farm northwest of Mason City in Lime Creek
Township. Irvin graduated from the eighth grade at Lime
Creek #4 in 1934.
Irvin made a scooter in 1937. He traded this for his
first motorcycle - a single cylinder Harley Davidson, the
first of many he has owned. He had won several trophies
racing motorcycles.
Irvin served in the U.S. Navy from February 1945 to
August 1946 on an Amphibious Cargo Ship, the U.S.S.
Truesdale in the South Pacific area. When he returned
home, he farmed with his father north of Clear Lake. They
moved to a farm northwest of Northwood in March of 1947,
where he has since resided.
Irvin is survived by two brothers, Thorvald Sorensen,
Plymouth, Iowa and Hans Sorensen and his wife, Beth, of
Menomonee Falls, Wis.; three sisters, Edith Skene,
Ventura, Iowa, Helen Bergman, Britt, Iowa, and Frances
Miller, Ventura,; a sister-in-law, Alta Sorensen,
Rockford, Iowa and also many nieces and nephews.
Irvin was preceded in death by his parents; a sister,
Olga Smeby in 1966; a brother, Verner Sorensen in 2001;
four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a nephew,
Chris A. Sorensen in 1974.
Ada Lillian Payne
Ada Lillian Payne,
81, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at St. John's Medical
Center in Joplin, Mo. Funeral services were held Friday,
June 7, 2002 at the Labette Baptist Church in Labette
City, Ks. with the Rev. Tom Heflin officiating. Burial was
in the Labette City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a
memorial has been established to the building fund at
Labette Baptist Church in Labette City, Kansas.
Ada was born June 28, 1920 in Blue Mound, Ks. to Edwin
Luther and Otha Gertrude (Cox) Martin. She graduated from
the Blue Mound High School in 1938. She attended Fort
Scott Community College and Kansas State College at
Manhattan, Ks. where she received her 60-hour teaching
certificate. She taught in Logan and three years at
Harmony and was the Labette County 4-H Club agent. She was
actively involved with the farming operation, the DeKalb
and later Triumph seed dealerships with her husband on the
family farm east of Altamont, Ks. She was active in the
rural Zion Hill Church as a Sunday School teacher, pianist
and treasurer. She recently was active in the Labete
Baptist Church.
She married Donald Herbert Payne Aug. 11, 1946 in Blue
Mound, Ks. He died Oct. 22, 1979.
Her survivors include one son, Herbert Payne and wife,
Barbara, of Altamont; two daughters, Donna and husband,
Robert Buol, of Clear Lake, and Catherine (Kate) and
husband, Rod Mulder, of Ames Iowa; daughter-in-law, Bonna
Gay and husband, Payne Davidson, of Edmond, Okla.; two
sisters, Lois and Velda Martin of Kansas City, Mo.; 10
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were one son, Edwin Dallas;
grandson, Daniel Dallas Buol, and her parents.
Murdock Funeral Home of Oswego was in charge of
arrangements.

93, formerly of Clear Lake, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at
the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service was

United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed
at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to

Vivian was born Aug. 19, 1908, the daughter of Frank
Elisha Daker and Nina Abigal (Parker) Daker in Clear Lake.
Vivian attended Lake #1 Rural School and graduated from
Clear Lake High School in 1926. After receiving her normal
teaching certificate she taught at Lake #1 for 2 1/2
years. Vivian married Russell Walls, Dec. 24, 1927 in
Mason City. They lived on the family farm until moving to
Clear Lake in 1968.
Vivian was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rural
Lakettes, Sorosis Club, and a Church Circle. She enjoyed
reading, handwork, knitting, crafts, and she loved to
cook.
Vivian is survived by three sisters-in-law, Lois and her
husband, Russell Fulghum, of Clear Lake, Marjorie Walls of
Clear Lake, and Pauline Walls of Oklahoma; several nieces,
nephews, and cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Russell, April 4, 1986; and two sons, Robert and Duane
Walls.

Palmer, 63, of
Grundy Center, Iowa, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at
Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa of natural
causes. Family and friends will gather for a time of
remembrance from 1 - 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at the
home of his sister, Donna and Dick Firgard, located at
6718 Watters Road in Hudson, Iowa. Burial will be at a
later date at Ballston Spa Cemetery in Ballston Spa, New
York. Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center is in
charge of local arrangements. A memorial fund has been
established.
Wallace was born June 2, 1939 in Algona, Iowa, the son of
Donald and Florence (Jennings) Palmer. Wallace graduated
from Ventura high School in 1957. On July 31, 1971 he was
united in marriage to Carolyn Wheeler. Wallace served in
the United States Air Force for years. He then worked for
Kraft General Foods for 30 years. Wallace was a 30-year
member of the Union Fire Company in Ballston Spa, New
York.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Susan
Palmer, of Grundy Center; his mother, Florence Palmer,
Norwalk, Iowa; seven brothers and sisters, James and
Vallie Palmer of Whitsitt, N.C., Charis and Emmett Brown
of Denver, Colo., Elsie Niemeyer of Norwalk, Trella and
Dwane Walker of Denver, Donna and Dick Firgard of Hudson,
Susan and Joe Pringle of DeSoto, Wis., and Pat Palmer and
Harold Hammond of Coralville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; his father,
Donald; and a brother, Carlton Palmer.
Maxine Elizabeth Dorr
Maxine Elizabeth
Dorr, 78, a
resident of the Good Samaritan Care Center in Albert Lea,
Minn., and formerly of Belmond, Iowa and New Hampton, Mo.
areas, died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at the Good Samaritan
Care Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June
13 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church west of Belmond at 10:30
a.m. with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial
will be in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Cemetary.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 12 at the Tenold-Andrews
Funeral Home, 516 1st Street S.E., Belmond, from 5 - 8
p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Maxine E. Link was born Feb. 6, 1924 on her parent's farm
in rural Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Conrad R. and
Zada Ellen Sears Link. She attended Mason City schools and
graduated from high school in 1942.
Maxine was united in marriage to Lloyd K. Heggestad in
Mason City on Aug. 22, 1942. To this union four children
were born, Gary, Marvie, Linda, and Dennis. She later
married Russell J. Dorr in Belmond. The couple farmed for
several years in the Belmond and Kanawha areas. Russell
also had owned and operated a trucking business which
Maxine helped operate. She also drove livestock trucks for
the business. The couple farmed near Goodell. In July of
1976 they moved to a farm in Martinsville, Mo. They lived
there until Russell's death in July 1986. Following
Russell's death, Maxine lived in Rowan, Iowa until moving
to New Hampton, Mo. where her son, Gary, and his family
cared for her. In 1992 they moved to Glenville, Minn. She
became a resident of Good Shepherd Care Center in 1994.
Those left to cherish the memory of her life include her
son, Gary Heggestad, and his wife, Darlene, of Glenville,
Minn., her daughter, Linda Crill, New London, Iowa, a
step-daughter, Marlene Wessels, Goodell, Iowa; her sister,
Mildred "Mickie" Madson, Mason City, Iowa; sister-in-law,
Mary Belle Link, Casper, Wyo.; brother-in-law, Leland Dorr
and his wife, Adean; grandsons, Robert Heggestad, Tacoma,
Wash., and Jerry Heggestad, and his wife, Denise, and
their children, Robyn, Cheyenne, and April, Herford,
Texas; granddaughter, Terri Howlett and her husband, Kurt,
and their children, Robbie, Aaron, and Lucas of Clear
Lake; grandson, Scott Halama, his wife, Tamara, and their
children, Christopher, Brandon, Gabriel and Desire', of
Keosauqua, Iowa; granddaughters Lisa Stanbary, and her
husband, Jessie, and their children Cameron, Kelsey, and

age 95, of Mason City, Iowa, died June 12, 2002 at the USA
Healthcare Center in Mason City. Funeral Services were
Tuesday, June 18, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home with
the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church
officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lake, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the Oakwood Care
Center, Clear Lake. The funeral service was held Monday,
June 24, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Dexter Township, Minn., with the Rev. Robert Seifert and
Rev. Jerome Gernander (Richland Lutheran Church,
Thornton, Iowa) officiating. Interment will be at the
Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Dexter Township, Minn.
Lydia Anne Christgau Fankell was born to Otto and Hannah (Baumgardner)
Goetsch, on March 26, 1908 in Dexter Township, Minn. The
family consisted of three brothers and four sisters.
Lydia began her education at the Monitor school house,
District 121 in Dexter Township, then attended Austin
Central High School in Austin, Minn.
Lydia was united in marriage to Edgar Christgau on June
24, 1931. They purchased a farm ten miles east of Austin,
Minn. and lived there until Edgar's passing in 1977. The
family consisted of three sons, Loren, Hilbert and Wayne.
Lydia was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church,
Dexter Township, being confirmed by Pastor Otto Hohenstein
in 1908. She sang in the church choir for over 30 years,
and was active in the Ladies Aid Society. She was also
involved in many other church and community activities
during her lifetime. Lydia also assisted her husband,
Edgar, in writing insurance for Mower County Farmers
Mutual, and worked as a sales clerk in Austin, Minn.
On May 5, 1979, Lydia Christgau was united in marriage to
Everett Fankell at Trinity Lutheran Church, Dexter
Township, Minn. They then moved to Clear Lake. While
living in Clear Lake, Lydia was an active member of the
Senior Citizens Center. She and her husband, Everett,
also enjoyed going on numerous bus tours throughout the
United States. They also visited Hawaii, Greece and
England.
Lydia is survived by three sons, Loren and his wife,
Rosemary, of Yuma, Az. and Hilbert and Wayne of Clear
Lake. She also leaves behind one granddaughter, two
grandsons, five great-granddaughters and one
great-grandson, all living in Colorado; and two sisters,
Rose Heikes, Austin, Minn. and Alma Studer, North Branch,
Minn.
Lydia was preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar,
in 1973, and her second husband, Everett, in 2001 and
three brothers, Arthur, Leonard and Harvey Goetsch.
Sisters preceding her were Elsie Studer and Tillie Carson.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to
Trinity Lutheran Church, Dexter Township, Minn. or to the
Senior Citizens Center in Clear Lake.
