Edwin J. Grove

Edwin J. Grove, 81, Clear Lake, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at the Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Edwin James Grove was born Dec. 12, 1919, near Plover, Iowa. He was the son of James E. and Grace (Calhoun) Grove. He graduated from Plover High School in 1939 and attended Estherville Junior College. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Corps during WW II. On Nov. 24, 1946, Edwin married Kathleen Bucher at Plover. The couple farmed near Plover for 47 years. In 1992, they moved to Clear lake. They also spent nine winters in Hot Springs, Ark.

Edwin was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and a past member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. He was a member of the Pocahontas Lions Club and was a life member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Grove of Clear Lake; a daughter, Dana Creydt and her husband, Russ, of Lakeside, Calif.; two grandchildren, Eva Schulte and her husband, Brock, and Jesse Creydt; two sisters, Catherine Stratiff, of Mesa, Az., and Lillian Benjamin and her husband, Ted, of Britt, Iowa; two brothers, Earl Grove of Seal Beach, Calif., and Gail Gove and his wife, Carol, of Hutchinson, Minn.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.


Jeannette M. Steffa

Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 20, 2001, for Jeannette M. Steffa, 84, of St. David, Az., formerly of Humboldt, Iowa at the Richardonıs Remembrance Center in Benson, Az.

Steffa died Thursday, June 17, 2001, at the Quiburi Mission Samaritan Center in Benson. The Rev. Carl Dittemore of First Baptist Church of St. David, Az. officiated at the service.

Jeanette Margaret Davids was born March 2, 1917 to Harm and Margaret Davids of German Township, Grundy County. She was married to Clarence Steffa in September 1937 in Hampton, Iowa. They resided in Humboldt until 1979 when they moved to St. David, Az.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence; her children, Donald of Phoenix, Az., Raymond and Kathy of Salida, Colo., Janet Santigati, of Phoenix, Lois Ann of St. David, Sharon and David Vestweber of Clear Lake, Gary and Tammy of Glendale, Az.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Davids, of Lakewood, Colo.; three sisters, Billie and Harold Culver of Sheffield, Iowa, Gladys Floy of Thornton, Iowa, and Doris and Ken Ashland of Spirit Lake, Iowa; nieces; nephews; and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, niece; nephew; and a brother.


Harriet Ann Robson

Harriet Ann Robson, 79, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, July 8, 2001 at St. Maryıs Hospital, Rochester, Minn.  A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2001 10:30 a.m.,  at St. Patrickıs Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S., Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan and John Ayers officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Patrickıs Catholic Church or Opportunity Village in her name.

Harriet was born Oct. 6, 1921 in Denver, Colo., the daughter of Joseph B. and Harriet  (Salmon) Folkedahl.  After the death of her mother at the age of one, she was reared by her Uncle Chris and Louise Folkedahl in Clarion, Iowa.  Harriet graduated from Clarion High School in 1938.  She married Richard B. Robson Oct. 8, 1938 in Mason City, Iowa.  They lived in Clarion until 1972 when they moved to Clear Lake, where they lived in Buzzardıs Bay until moving to their present home in 1995.  

Harriet enjoyed fishing, gardening, painting, playing bridge, cooking, going to the Surf to dance and assisting her husband in making wine.  She was very active in the church and helping others.  Harriet was a member of St. Patrickıs Catholic Church and North Iowa Wine Club.

Harriet is survived by her husband, Richard (Dick) Robson, Clear Lake; two children, Beth Ann McIntyre and her husband, Garner, Longmont, Colo., and Dan Robson and his wife, Vicky, Emmons, Minn.; six grandchildren, Kris Johnson, Kelly Fuqua, Kim Johnson, Dan Robson Jr. and his wife, Shelley, Danielle Robson, and Jeremy Robson and his wife, Kristin; seven great grandchildren, Alex, Jeff and Janalynne Robson, Kaili Robson, Tyson and Brittney Hart, and Emilie Fuqua; one brother, Joe Folkedahl, Fall Brook, Calif.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Harriet Folkedahl, and half-sister, Norma Milos.


Phyllis A. Whitt

Phyllis A. Whitt, 77, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., and formerly of Belton, Mo. died Sunday, July 8, 2001 at her daughterıs home in Mt. Vernon.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12 at E.K. George & Sons, Belton Chapel in Belton, Mo. She will be buried in the Belton Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at the Belton Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

Phyllis was born June 30, 1924 in Mason City, Iowa. She lived the last 20 years in Belton.

She is survived by three sons, Danny R. Whitt, Rosemount, Minn., Douglas R. Whitt, Rosehill, Kan., and Glenn L. Whitt, Norfolk, Neb.; two daughters, Paulette Hawkings, Mt. Vernon, Ind., and Deborah J. Pace, Wake Forest, N.C.; one brother, Jerry Law, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by SMSGT (Ret.) Richard E. Whitt on Jan. 13, 1992.


Marjory Ann Kiefer

Marjory Ann Kiefer, 78, Clear Lake, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.  A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, July 12, 2001, 11 a.m. at St. Patrickıs Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S., Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating.  Family will be visiting with friends at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Wednesday, June 11, from 5 - 8 p.m.  A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and a Scripture Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. 

The body is being cremated.  The Inurnment will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday.  Memorials maybe given to Hospice of North Iowa in her name.

Marjory was born Jan. 30, 1923, the daughter of John and Frances

(Oulman) Maher in Lake Mills, Iowa.  She was raised on a farm just East of Lake Mills and was in the graduation class of 1942 from Lake Mills.  Marge worked for Gordon Osguard  at Lake Mills Graphic as a color artist and photographer.  She married Robert Kiefer on July 5, 1943 in Forest City, Iowa in the St. James Catholic Church parsonage with Father Slowy officiating.   They settled in Garner, Iowa and opened Kiefer Studio.  They had two children, Steven and Mary Jo, in the eight years that they were in Garner.  They moved the family and the business to Clear Lake in 1954.  They had another child, Kathy.  Marge enjoyed her work and was an artist at heart, she was always doodling and drawing pictures of people.  She was very committed to her religion and was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  When they closed Kiefer Studio after retirement, she contacted every customer she could to see if they wanted the negative of their family.  She felt it was a privilege to be able to share in people or families special moments and capture it in a picture.  She also enjoyed camping, coin collecting, playing cards, and politics, and after retirement she joined an investment club that she enjoyed very much.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a special delight to her.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Kiefer, Clear Lake; her son, Steve Kiefer and his wife, Julie, Sedro Wooley, Wash.; two daughters, Mary Jo Keenan and her husband, Tom, Clear Lake, and Kathy Mostrom and her husband, Mark, Ventura, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Adam Comley, Mike Keenan, Kim McLaughlin and Chris Keenan, Matt Mostrom, Brian Mostrom and Mary Louise Egsdahl; nine great grandchildren, Alison, Sean, Taylor, Adam II, Ashley, Aaron, Ashley, Amber, and Annette.

Marjory was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Maher; and three brothers, Paul, Robert F. and Robert John Maher.


Larry C. LaGue Jr

Larry C. LaGue Jr., 38, of 505 West L. St., Forest City, Iowa, died Monday, July 9, 2001 at his home.  Funeral services were held Friday, July 13, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.  Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Larry C. LaGue Jr. Memorial fund.

Larry was born Feb. 25, 1963 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Larry and Diane (Sorensen) LaGue.  He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1981 and from NIsACC in 1983.  After graduating he worked in Colorado, Wisconsin, Missouri and then moved back to the North Iowa area in 1996.  He worked at Winnebago and then at Forest City Foods.

Larry enjoyed working with the public, camping, listening to 50ıs & 60ıs music, was a big Buddy Holly Fan, biking, photography and going to the YMCA in Forest City.  He was involved with A.A. groups in the Forest City area.

Larry is survived by his parents Larry and Diane LaGue, Clear Lake; a brother, Jeff LaGue and his wife, Domenie, Clear Lake; maternal grandmother, Helen Sorensen, Alden, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Esther Majors and P.C.

(Shorty) LaGue, and maternal grandfather Dale Sorensen.


Grace V. Anderson

Grace V. Anderson, age 95, of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jonathan Swenson officiating.  Inurnment will take place at Clear Lake Cemetery on a later date.

According to Graceıs wishes, her body was cremated, and there will be no visitation.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Central Gardens of North Iowa, P.O. Box 70, Clear Lake, Iowa, or to Zion Lutheran Church of Clear Lake.

Grace V. Anderson was born on Feb. 11, 1906, at Osseo, Wis., the daughter of Martin Julius and Anna Marie (Larsen) Anderson.

Grace graduated from high school, and went on to further her education by graduating from the University of Minnesota.  She spent her lifetime involved in education.  From 1926 until 1938, Grace was an elementary educator in the Clear Lake public school system, and from 1938 to 1972, she was the principal of Central Elementary School in Clear Lake.  Throughout her career, Grace was awarded with many honors including Clear Lake Schools Teacher of the Year in 1956, Honorary Citizen of Clear Lake in 1950, and Honorary 4th of July Mayor in the 1970ıs.

She was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, where she participated in the choir, was a Bible school teacher, took part in the quilting group, and was a member of WELCA.  Grace also enjoyed playing bridge.

Grace is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and eight sisters.


Ethel V. Carlson

Ethel V. Carlson, 85, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 at the Oakwood Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street Clear Lake.  Inurnment will be held at a later date at the East Side Cemetery, Estherville, Iowa.  There will be no visitation, according to her wishes, Mrs. Carlsonıs body has been cremated.

Ethel was born May 27, 1916 in Alborn, Minn., the daughter of Gust William and Signa Hillfrida (Johnson) Carlson.  She worked for many years as a housekeeper and has been a resident of Oakwood Care Center since 1997.


Frances Amelia (Ott) Miller

Frances Amelia (Ott) Miller, 94, of 210 10th Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  Memorial services will be Wednesday 1:30 p.m. July 25, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, Iowa.  Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday at the Church.  Frances suggests memorials to the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.  Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of the services.

Frances was born April 6, 1907, the daughter of Solomon J. and Evalena

(Ferner) Ott in Clear Lake, Iowa.  She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1925 and continued her education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City and graduated in March 1926.

On June 25, 1926 she was married to Willis E. Miller.  To this union three children were born:  Charles W., Marjorie Joan and Larry A.

In 1930 she was elected to the position of Treasurer of the Methodist Church and continued in this position except for two years while living away from Clear Lake.

After the death of her husband in 1949 she worked in the Treasurerıs Office at the County Court House and also was in business until 1956 when she became the full time Secretary-Treasurer of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.  This position she held until her retirement June 15, 1984.

She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women.  She was a Past Matron of Park Chapter No. 35, Order of Easter Star; Past Regent of Clear Lake Chapter Daughters of American Revolution; and Past President of the Clear Lake Wa-Tan-Ye Club..

She is survived by one son, Larry A. Miller and his wife Norma, Ft. Madison, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Mona Cooper, Nora Springs, Iowa; five grandchildren, Bradley Miller, Albia, Iowa, Barbara Quam and her husband, Tim, Nora Springs, Iowa, Bryan Miller and his wife, Jeanine, Nora Springs, Iowa, Cristi Prenger, Quincy, Ill., Stephanie Knoch and her husband, Fred, Ft. Madison, Iowa.  There are also eight great-grandchildren.  Also many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Joan Miller; son, Charles W. Miller; two brothers, Ralph and Harlan Ott; and one sister, Ruth (Edmond) Lincicum. 


Ada M. Hughes

Ada M. Hughes, 87, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial service was held on Monday, July 23 at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Inurnment was in the Belmond Cemetery, Belmond, Iowa.

Ada M. (Shahan) Hughes was born on Feb. 2, 1914, rural Belmond, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Mary (Carter) Shahan.  She attended and received her education in the rural country schools at Belmond Township School District #4.

On Nov. 24, 1934, Ada was united in marriage with Weston D. Hughes in Clarion, Iowa.  The couple made their home in the rural Belmond area.  The couple was blessed with eleven children.  On June 16, 1944, Ada was baptized at the Goodell United Methodist Church in Goodell, Iowa.

Ada spent most of her lifetime being a homemaker, taking care of her family. 

She was a cook at Jimıs Tap in Clear Lake, and in more recent years, Ada worked at Olaf T. Hansenıs in Clear Lake until her retirement in March of 1984.

She enjoyed reading, doing word games, and traveling, but her great love and enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include ten children, Lee W. Hughes of Clear Lake, Gary D. Hughes and his wife, Jo, of Peoria, Az., Barbara K. Pals of Shakopee, Minn., Lyle H. Hughes and his wife, Margaret, of Marion, Iowa, Virginia E. Mennenga of Hubbard, Iowa, Linda C. Helland and her husband, Gene, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Darwin R. Hughes and his wife, Joanne, of Woodbury, Minn, Keith L. Hughes and his wife, Suzette of Trusdale, Iowa, Paul K. Hughes and his wife, Judy, of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Rebecca J. Frerichs and her husband, Steven, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa; 27 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Orville Shahan and his wife, Micky, of Mesa, Az.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Shahan of Colstrip, Mont., Gladys Pals of Belmond, Irene Shahan of Mason City, Iowa, and Ardie Shahan; brother-in-law, Pete Pals of Belmond; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Phyllis Hughes, of Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lola Mae; four grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers, Harry, Carroll, Howard, Edwin, and Stanley; sister, Lola; and two sons-in-law, Larry Pals and Kyle Mennenga.


Elizabeth Meier Groh

Elizabeth Meier Groh, 90, of Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at the USA Healthcare Center, Mason City, Iowa. Her funeral was held Saturday, July 21, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner, Iowa with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Music was provided by organist, Ellen Kieschnick who accompanied congregational hymns and sang in a duet with Jody Roeber. Ushers were Alvin ³Pete² Hansen and Fred Weiss. Pallbearers were Merlin Braun, Randy Buchan, Allen Green, Gene Jakoubek, Ron Spieker and Charles Springer. Interment was at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Elizabeth Meier Groh, the daughter of Phillip and Omie (Nolte) Henkel, was born April 12, 1911 in Norka, Russia which is now part of Germany. She moved with her family to the United States at the age of two and settled on a farm near Hayfield. She attended school at Hayfield. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner. On Nov. 20, 1932 she was married to Robert Meier at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They were the first couple to be married at St. Paul. They made their home north of Britt where Elizabeth raised chickens and helped her husband farm. On May 26, 1976 Robert passed away. On June 4, 1978 she was married to Fred Groh at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They made their home in Clear Lake. Fred passed away in December of 1993. Due to ill health, Elizabeth moved to the USA Healthcare Center in Mason City in 1994. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, along with church activities at St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a member.

She is survived by her son, Gerald Meier and his wife, Elise, of Clear Lake; two granddaughters, Cathy McDougle and her husband, James, of Excelsior, Minn. and Cindy Meier of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; a step-daughter, Shirley Dorow and her husband, the Rev. Maynard, of Arden Hills, Minn.; four step-grandchildren, John Dorow and his wife, Julie and their two children, Adam and Hannah, of St. Paul, Minn., Mary Nelson, and her husband, Rich, of St. Paul, Peter Dorow and his wife, Monic and their two sons, Jason and Matthew, of Burnsville, Minn., and Sara Dorow of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two step-sisters, Mollie Davis and Ann Boonstra of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a sister, Margaret Braun; a brother in Germany; a step-sister, Kathryn Warner; and two step-brothers, Pete and George Green.


Dustin James Nelson

Dustin James Nelson, 23, of Redford, Mich., died Monday, July 16, 2001 in Michigan.  A Memorial Service was held Monday, July 23, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  Inurnment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Dustin James Nelson Memorial Fund.

Dustin was born Feb. 6, 1978, in Garden City, Mich., the son of Robert and Linda (Dickirson) Nelson.  He attended schools in Garden City.  Dustin enjoyed coming to Clear Lake and spending time with his Grandmother and cousins. 

Dustin is survived by his father, Robert Nelson, Phoenix, Az.; one brother, Darren Nelson and his wife, Michele, Redford, Mich.; his niece, Kayleigh Nelson, Redford; maternal grandmother, Lorene Haddy and her husband, Speck, Clear Lake; and paternal grandmother, Ginny Nelson, Detroit, Mich.; aunts and uncles Diana Byington and her husband, Tim, Clear Lake, Darcy Skellenger and her husband, Dan, Clear Lake, Jeffrey Pierce and his wife, Amy, Rochester, Minn., Richard Nelson and his wife, Jackie, Jackson, Minn., Betty Burnette and her husband, Jim, Westland, Mich., and Jody Cramer, Owatonna, Minn.

Dustin was preceded in death by his mother in 1995.


Edward Allen Coyle

Edward Allen Coyle, 82, Garner, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  Funeral services were held Friday, July 20, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.  Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in the name of Edward A. Coyle.

Edward was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Thornton, Iowa, the son of Edward T. and Dulice (Hartwig) Coyle.  He farmed north of Miller, Iowa in Ellington Township.  He married Edna Spitler Dec. 7, 1941.  He later worked at Northern Natural Gas.  He was a resident at Concord Care Center, Garner.  He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Miller, IA.

Edward is survived by three children, Judy Millett, Waterloo, Iowa, Larry Coyle and his wife, Kathy, Loomis, Calif., and Donna Todd, Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jolene Berger and her husband, Perry, Waterloo, Iowa, Jay Millett and his wife, Kelly, Waterloo, Iowa, Kristine Falk, Chandler, Az., David Coyle, Walnut Creek, Calif., and Wesley Todd, Waterloo, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim Coyle and his wife, Judy, Beaver Dam, Wis.; two sisters, Vivian Buss and her husband, Gerald, Hampton, Iowa, and Doris Jeffrey, Rockford, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mary Coyle, Ventura, and Carol Coyle, Bemidji, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Don, Archie, Chuck and Stan Coyle; one son-in-law, Jerome Millett; one brother-in-law, Dale Jeffrey; and one sister-in-law Gwen Coyle.


Margaret E. Hornbuckle

Margaret E. Hornbuckle, 80, Mason City, Iowa died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at the USA Heathcare Center, Mason City.  Funeral services were held Friday, July 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley, Iowa.  Interment was at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Margaret E. Hornbuckle Memorial Fund, established for Masses to be said at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Margaret was born July 19, 1920, in Milltown, Wis., the daughter of Andrew and Celilia Ann (Schuler) Gollner.  She moved in infancy with her family to Wesley.  She was raised on the family farm and attended rural school.  She then moved to Waterloo, Iowa and worked at Rath Packing Plant. 

Margaret married Harold LeRoy Hornbuckle July 19, 1946 in Waterloo.  She continued to live in Waterloo until 1992 when, due to ill health, she moved to the Clear Lake and Mason City area to be close to her family.

Margaret loved shopping for antiques.  She also loved motorcycles and was an avid Harley fan.  She was a member of the American Motorcycle Association.  She was also a member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Margaret is survived by her son, Dick Hornbuckle and his wife, Vickie, Mason City; four grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Bailey and her husband, Mike, and their child, Maddison Raye,  Minneapolis, Minn., Chad Hornbuckle and his wife, Debbie, and their children, Alex, Jake and Cassie, Minneapolis, Jason Hornbuckle and his wife, Heather, and their children, Jonathan and Allysa, Minneapolis, and Christopher Hornbuckle and his wife, Teresa, Minneapolis; her brother-in-law, Francis Pfeffer, Titonka, Iowa and her sister-in-law, Dora Gollner, Britt, Iowa.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Grace Gollner; her husband, Harold, on July 23, 1986;  brother, Charles Gollner; and her sister, Vanda Pfeffer.


Susan Marie Stinehart Davidson

Susan Marie Stinehart Davidson, 45, of Ottumwa, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, due to complications of diabetes and pneumonia, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 24, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Susan was born on Nov. 6, 1955, at Strawberry Point, Iowa.  When she was three months old, she was lovingly adopted by Orville and Dolores

(Schloemer) Stinehart.  Susan was raised in Clear Lake where she attended school and graduated in 1975.  She spent most of her lifetime as a homemaker, taking care of her children.  Susan enjoyed animals, especially dogs, and she loved to spend her free time talking with her friends.

Survivors include her children, Jason Allen and his fiancée, Amanda, of Des Moines, Iowa, Ed Allen and his wife, Melissa, of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Brian Allen and his wife, Bonita, of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Melody and Mercedes Allen of Des Moines, and Madison Allen of West Des Moines; two sisters, Nancy Holman and her husband, Bob, of Clear Lake, and Sally Johnson and her husband, Mark, of Clear Lake; two nephews, Robert and Jameson Deckard of Clear Lake; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville Stinehart on Sept. 17, 2000, and Dolores Stinehart on Dec. 20, 2000; her husband, Jim Davidson; and an infant son.


Evelyn Ann Kliegl Plonsky

Evelyn Ann Kliegl Plonsky, 72, died July 14, 2001 in Indiana.  A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 4, 10 a.m., at St. Patrickıs Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating.  Visitation will be held Friday from 6 - 8 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.  A scripture rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. 

Inurnment will be at St. Joseph-Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. 

According to her wishes, she has been cremated.  Memorials may be given to

 St. Vincent Hospice, 8450 North Payne Road, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Ind. 46268.

Evelyn was born Dec. 31, 1928, in Cylinder, Iowa, in her home, the daughter of George and Pauline (Lena) DeBri Kliegl.  She graduated from Cylinder High School and continued her education at the Hamilton School of Commerce (Hamilton Business College), Mason City.  She married John F. Plonsky of Mason City, Jan. 31, 1951.  Evelyn  lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa for twelve years, and in Tucson, Az. for sixteen years before moving to Des Moines, Iowa.  She also lived in Mason City, Hampton, and Graettinger, Iowa before residing with her daughter and family in Carmel, Ind. 

Evelyn is survived by one daughter, Karen Kiefer and her husband, Daniel, Carmel, Ind.; three grandchildren, Rebecca, Joseph, and Patrick; one sister, Juanita Kelly, Buhl, Idaho; two brothers, Eugene Kliegl, Farewell Bend, Or. and Richard Kliegl, Webster City, Iowa.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Beck; and two brothers, George Klieg and Lloyd Kliegl. 


Ruth S. Sondrol

Ruth S. Sondrol, age 90, of 701 Oaknoll Drive in Iowa City, Iowa, died Sunday, July 1, 2001 in the Oaknoll Health Center in Iowa City from complications of a stroke.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Oaknoll Foundation in Iowa City, 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City, Iowa, 52246. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City in charge of arrangements, 319-338-8171.

Ruth was born August 29, 1910 in Hanlontown, Iowa, the daughter of Sander and Carrie Molsberry Sanderson. She was raised in Cerro Gordo County on the family farm. Ruth married Thorkel E. Sondrol on Dec. 2, 1942 in Mason City. Mr. Sondrol died in March of 1973.

On Jan. 29, 1976, she married Dr. Harold W. Morgan in Jupiter, Fla. Dr. Morgan died in September of 1988. Ruth received her training at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa and for 25 years was a registered nurse at various hospitals and doctors offices throughout north Iowa.

Ruth had lived in Englewood,

She was a member of TTT, American Legion Auxiliary, Community

Presbyterian Church in Englewood, Fla. and First Congregational Church in Clear Lake.

Ruth is survived by her children, Susan Sondrol Jones and her husband, William, of Iowa City and Thorkel E. ³Sandy² Sondrol of the Cayman Islands; one sister, Marjory Mason of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren, Meghan Jones, Merrick Jones, Thorkel ³Erik² Sondrol, and Karn Sondrol; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and five brothers, Stanley, Maynard, Alton, Robert and Daniel.
