ARDELL T. WADDINGHAM 

    Ardell T. Waddingham, 76, of Ventura, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center ­ North Iowa, Mason City. The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 5 at the United Methodist Church in Ventura with the Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Music was provided by organist, Dorothy Schnuelle who accompanied soloist, Larry Shaffer. Usher was Mike Cash. Casket bearers were Calvin Anderson, Bob White, Wendell Davison, Harry Roenfanz, Gordon Johnson and Dr. Norman Held. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner was in charge of arrangements.

    Ardell Timothy Waddingham, the son of George Timothy and Anna (Blumer) Waddingham, was born Sept. 14, 1923 on a farm near Klemme. He attended the rural schools south of Ventura and graduated from Ventura High School in 1941. He then farmed with his mother south of Ventura. On Sept. 24, 1944 he married Tressa Tompkins at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, Iowa. They lived on the home farm until 1947 when they moved northwest of Ventura to Tressašs home farm. They farmed for a total of fifty years before retiring. Ardell enjoyed his family, grandchildren, spending winters in Arizona and playing cards with friends.

    He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the church board of trustees and the Hancock County Coop Oil Board.

    Ardell is survived by his wife, Tressa Waddingham of Ventura; three daughters, Kathy Payne and her husband, Thomas, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Iris Alt and her husband, Jerry, of Earlham, Iowa and Valerie Hasbrouck and her husband, Bruce, of Ventura; four grandchildren, Tiffany Payne, Judd Payne, Vanessa Hasbrouck and Natalie Hasbrouck.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Waddingham in 1983; and two brothers, Curtis and Arnett Waddingham.



ROBERT ANDERSON OBIT

    Robert Norman Anderson, 85, of Ventura died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City. The funeral was held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Miller, Iowa with the Rev. Owen Gaasedelen officiating. Music was provided by organist Gail Reese who accompanied soloist Warren Torkelson and congregational hymns. Ushers were Ted Hall and Ross Anderson. Honorary bearers were Normšs grandchildren. Pall bearers were Ron Anderson, Jerry Anderson, Roger Furness, Garrett Greiman, Dale Anderson and Carl Anderson. Interment will be in the spring at Ellington Prairie Cemetery. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner was in charge of arrangements.

    Robert Norman Anderson, the son of Elmer and Bertha (Hall) Anderson, was born June 15, 1915 on the Anderson farm near Ventura. He was baptized and confirmed at Ellington Prairie Lutheran Church. Norm graduated from Ventura High School in 1933 and attended Waldorf College. In December of 1941, he enlisted in the Air Force where he was a Link Trainer Instructor teaching instrument flying. During his Air Force years he was stationed in Texas, Maine, Virginia, South Carolina and Kansas. After returning home from the service, he worked for the Northern Natural Gas Company. 

On Aug. 29, 1942 he married Dorothy Greimann at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner. He farmed the Anderson farm northwest of Ventura from 1947 to 1997 when he retired.

    He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Normšs past-times were hunting, fishing and attending school activities in which his children and grandchildren participated. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle.

    He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Ventura; six children, Carolyn Luscomb and her husband, David, of Clear Lake and their three children, Brett, Jody and Andrew and his wife, Rachael, Robert Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Maria, of Forest City and their five children, Christina, Robert III, Alan, Ryan and Aaron, Jacqueline Mathewson and her husband, Robert, of Littleton, Colo. and their two children, Brian and Kimberly, Thomas Anderson and his wife, Kathy, of Tempe, Az. and their four children, Eric, Karis, Justin and Mark, Jill Schultz and her husband, Steven, of Coralville, Iowa and their son, Jonathan and Gregory Anderson and his wife, Julie of Edina, Minn. and their three children, Scott, Katherine and Margaret; a sister, Carrie Greiman and her husband, Bernard, of Garner; and two sisters-in-law, Vivian Anderson of Ventura and Eva Hall of Sioux City.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lester, Earl and Burt Anderson and two granddaughters, Allison and Emily Anderson.




Norman Treslan

    Norman L. Treslan, 66, of Algona, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.

    A private memorial service was held at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. Gene Tindall officiating.  According to his wishes, Mr. Treslanšs body has been cremated.  Memorials may be directed to the Mercy Cancer Center, c/o the Norman Treslan Memorial Fund, 1000 4th Street SW, Mason City.

    Norman was born July 24, 1934 in Mason City, the son of Edwin and Mabel (Conibear) Treslan.  He attended Fertile Schools and at the age of eighteen, began his lifelong work as a self-employed carpenter and cabinetmaker.

Norman was united in marriage to Darlene Anderson of December 25, 1954 in Forest City, Iowa.  The couple lived in Clear Lake for 45 years, only recently moving to Algona to be near their daughter.  Norman had many interests including woodworking, metal detection, riding his motorcycle, journaling, welding and metal work, painting, philosophy, and taking trips to Menards.

    Norman is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Algona; one daughter, Colleen Bilyeu and her husband, Rick, of Algona; one son, Gary Treslan and his wife, Brenda, of Gardner, Maine; five grandchildren, Dave Papach, and Shane, Adam, Sarah, and Kaylee Treslan; one great-grandchild, and numerous cousins.

    Norman was preceded in death by his parents and his special pet, his cat, Mr. Wiggins.

Dr. Richard Calhoun
    Dr. Richard E. Calhoun, 82, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. A Memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 24 at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements. The body has been donated to the University of Iowa Hospital college of medicine. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church, Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa or the Clear Lake Senior Citizens.

    Richard was born June 17, 1918, in Lake Mills, Iowa, the son of Joseph Alexander and Mable (Bryant) Calhoun. He graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1935, attended Iowa State Teachers College, Mason City Junior College, and graduated from the University of Missouri Dental College in 1943. Richard married LaVerne Sattler Feb. 19, 1944 in Corpus Cristi, Texas.

    He served in the U.S. Navy as a Lt. Commander during WW II, served on the USS Black Hawk in Sing Tow China. Following the service he moved to Clear Lake. In April, 1946 he started practice with Dr. A. A. Joslyn and practiced for over 44 years, retiring in 1990. He worked with the Christian Dental Missionary, traveling to St. Vincents, Dominican Republic, Granada and Jamaica. He was Cub Master for Pack #103.

    Richard was a member and enjoyed singing in the choir at the United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the North Iowa Men's Garden Club, Menšs Bridge Club, Clear Lake Rotary and Past President, a Life member of the Iowa Dental Society, Past President of the North Central District of Dental Society. He loved playing cribbage, bridge, fishing, golfing and hunting.

    Richard is survived by his wife LaVerne Calhoun, Clear Lake; two sons Richard Calhoun and his wife Sandy, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Dr. Robert Calhoun, Edmunds, Wash.; two grandchildren, Michelle and Jeff Calhoun; one brother, John Calhoun and his wife Roz, Mason City, Iowa.

    Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Joseph Calhoun.



WARREN OBIT NO PICTURE
Orville Warren

    Orville "Ted" Warren, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, died  Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls at age 93.  Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls with the Rev. Don Preston.  Burial was in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Iowa.

    Ted was born Feb. 28, 1907 in Milan, Mo. to J. Albert and L. Maud (Wemmer) Warren.  He married Vera Wohlford on Dec. 22, 1928 in Hampton, Iowa.  He had engaged in  farming in Franklin County and was now retired. Ted was a member of First United Methodist Church. 

    He is survived by his wife, Vera of Iowa Falls; one brother, Marion and his wife Velma Warren of Clear Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marge Nelson

    Marguerite E. "Marge" Nelson, 73, of 321 4th NE, Mason City, Iowa died Saturday evening, February 24, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center, North Iowa.

   Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 1, at Fullerton Family of Funeral Homes, 123 2nd St. SE, Mason City. Officiating will be the Rev. Scott Holmes of Grace United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at Columbarium II of Memorial Park Cemetery at a later time. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Marguerite E. Nelson Memorial Fund.

    Marge was born on June 28, 1927, one of two children to Calvin and Cecelia (Kilberg) Lawrence at Prophetstown, Ill. She graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1945 and attended school at Sauk Valley Community College in Sterling, Ill. She later moved to Chicago where she  met and married James Nelson on Feb. 5, 1954. To this union were born three children. They lived for awhile in Illinois, moving to Mason City about 1958. While being a homemaker and raising her family she worked at various jobs in North Iowa . She loved all types of music, and was in a Trio that sang for businesses and churches. She also was an actress in the Community Theaters in Chicago and here in Mason City. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

    Those thankful in sharing Margešs life include her three children, daughter Mary Duggan, Mason City, sons David and his wife Cathy Nelson, Dallas, Texas and Sven and his wife Rose Nelson, Marble Rock, Iowa; four grandchildren, Justin Boss, Amber Johnson, Andrea Cooper, and Sven Nelson Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Tessy, Trevor, and Devin.

    Marge was proceeded in death by her parents and one brother, Calvin Lawrence.
