Jeanne Livingston
Jeanne Livingston, 76, of 2400 South Shore Dr.,
Clear Lake, died April 1, 2001 at the Muse-Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa, Mason City,
Iowa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April
4, 2001, 11 a.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,
with the Rev. Gary Johnson, Hospice Chaplin,
officiating. Interment will be held 3:30 p.m. at
Washington Township Cemetery, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit of North Iowa in her name.
Jeanne was born Oc.23, 1924, in Glezland, Ind.
She was the daughter of Victor and Eunice (McConnell)
Grubb. She graduated from West High School, Waterloo,
Iowa in 1945. She married Sylvan Livingston on Nov.
25, 1966 in Fulton, Ill. Jeanne enjoyed hunting,
golfing and playing pool. Jeanne played on the pool
league at Lake Front Tap, Ellyıs. She was also a
member of the Moose Lodge, Mason City.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Sneed and
her husband Jerry, Mt. Pleasant, Ak; three
step-daughters, Slyvia Jones, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Mary
Lou Kruse, Cedar Falls, Iowa and June Zmolek,
Clarksville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Dan Jans,
Fairbank, Iowa, Steve Jans, Van Cleave, Iowa, and
Debra Jans of Wateroo, Iowa; five great-grandchildren;
and one sister, Pat Rounds, Del High, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband Sylvan Livingston, 1991, two sisters, and one
brother.
Helen E. Gadow
Helen E. Gadow, 100, of Maynard, Iowa, died Sunday,
April 8, 2001 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake,
following a long illness.
Graveside memorial service will be held 11 a.m.
Thursday, April 12 at Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard,
Iowa, with the Rev. Roger White officiating. Inurnment
will be in Long Grove Cemetery. A memorial fund has
been established for Emmanuel United Methodist Church
and the Maynard Library.
Helen Esther Gadow was born July 25, 1900 at
Victor, Honey Creek Township, Iowa, the daughter of a
prominent pioneer family, John M. and Esther M. (Ingraham)
Croft. She attended the country schools in the area of
the family farm and often recalled riding her Pinto
pony as a youngster while playing with Indian children
from the Fox and Sac Reservation whose families fished
and hunted the Iowa River Valley. she was a self
described rough and tumble ³tomboy.² Helen married
Herman Gustav Gadow of Maynard, Iowa on June 8, 1917
at the Polk County Courthouse in Des Moines, Iowa,
which she described as ³The most grand and opulent
building she had ever been in.² Their honeymoon was
the train ride back to Victor, Iowa. Herman, at the
time, was a member of the Iowa National Guard. His
unit had frequently trained for possible maneuvers
along the Mexican border. It was during these
exercises, in Iowa County, that he met Helen and asked
for her hand. After returning to Victor for a brief
time they traveled to Westgate, Iowa where Herman was
employed on a nearby farm. Eventually they purchased
their own land and farmed until the mid 1930ıs In
later years Herman engaged in buying and selling
livestock in Northeast Iowa and Helen, for several
years worked as a medical assistant to Dr. Hall, but
her top priorities were always her expended family of
eight children. They moved to the Oakwood Care Center
in Clear Lake to be near two of their daughters who
lived in the nearby area, but their hearts never left
Maynard.
Virginia M. Jensen
Funeral services for Virginia M. Jensen, age 85, of
Albert Lea, Minn., will be held at 1 p.m. Friday,
April 13 at First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove. The
Rev. Alvin Cooper will officiate. Interment will be at
the Clarks Grove Baptist Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7
p.m. Thursday, April 12 at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral
Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Virginia M. Jensen was born May 20, 1915 at home in
Albert Lea in the house built by her father. At age
four she moved with her parents to a farm north of
Clarks Grove. Here she grew up attending School
District #82. She attended the First Baptist Church of
Clarks Grove and there accepted Jesus as her Savior.
Through the years she was active in Sunday School
work, Daily Vacation Bible School, and the Womenıs
Fellowship. Virginia graduated from Albert Lea High
School in 1933. In 1935 she was united in marriage to
Jack R. Jensen at Fiscus, Iowa. The couple farmed and
lived in Iowa until 1945 when they moved to Albert
Lea. They retired in 1978 to their lake cottage at
Waterville, spending summers there and winters in
North Fort Myers for 16 years. In 1990 the couple
moved to Clear Lake, Iowa. Virginia enjoyed the
fellowship in the various churches they attended in
retirement. She enjoyed so much getting to know all of
her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virginia
enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and other crafts. She
made many mittens for grandchildren and others.
Survivors include her husband, Jack; children
Richard Jensen and his wife, June, Julie Tocci and her
husband, Ronald, William (Bill) Jensen and his wife,
Colleen, David Jensen and his wife, Helen, Carolyn
Ahrens, Jonathan Jensen and his wife, Georgiana; 19
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and
sisters-in-law Adeline Green and Jean Group and her
husband, Maurice.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and
only sister, Helen, and son-in-law Jim Ahrens and
grandson Todd Jensen.
Velma G. Myhre
Velma G. Myhre, 74, Clear Lake, died Wednesday,
April 19, 2001 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa,
Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service was held at 1:30
p.m. Monday, April 23, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear
Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating.
Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Memorials may be given to the Velma G. Myhre Memorial
Fund.
Velma was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Manly, Iowa, the
daughter of Amos and Myrta (Raub) Johnson. She
attended Manly schools. Velma worked at Mason City
Tent & Awning. She married Lloyd Myhre April 13, 1946
in Cedar Falls, Iowa. They lived in Fertile before
moving to Mason City and then to Clear Lake in 1957.
Velma enjoyed camping. She was a member of Zion
Lutheran Church.
Velma is survived by two sons Gary Myhre and
his wife Barb, The Woodlands, Texas, and Mike Myhre,
Thousand Oaks, Calif.; one daughter, Julie Robinson
and her husband Wayne, Lexington, S.C.; four
grandchildren, Ryan Robinson, Gina Robinson, Heather
Myhre and Jonny Myhre; and two sisters, Darlene Cory
and her husband Ernest, Mason City, and Marilyn
Barnett, Waterloo, Iowa.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband Lloyd on Feb. 9, 1999; three brothers, Richard
Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Donald Johnson; four
sisters, Olive Riekens, Marian Blado, Genevieve
Russell, and Mavis Kellner.
Clarence Walter Kofoed
Clarence Walter Kofoed, 75, 717 S. 9th St.,
Clear Lake, died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the Good
Shepherd Care Facility, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25,
10:30 a.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N.
4th St., Clear Lake. The Rev. Kermit Roisen will be
officiating. Interment will be at the Clear Lake
Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Clarence W. Kofoed
Memorial Fund.
Clarence was born May 12, 1925, at his home in
Thornton, Iowa, the son of Thor and Alma (Johansen)
Kofoed. He graduated from Clear Lake High School.
Clarence worked for Dusenberg Road Construction, owned
his own filling station; and worked for Zeidlers
Concrete Plant. Clarence married Norma Rowe February
4, 1961 in the Lutheran Chapel, Story City, Iowa with
the Rev. Strum officiating, who had been their
minister at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, but
had relocated to Story City. They made their home in
Clear Lake at their current residence. Clarence
retired in 1990.
Children, his home, family and friendships were
important to him. He enjoyed gardening, planting
flowers, cooking, and baking at Christmas time.
Clarence is survived by his wife Norma Kofoed,
Clear Lake; three daughters, Elida Morse and her
husband Pat, Clear Lake, Patsy Broers and her husband
Wayne, Harrison, Ark., and Sharon Buck, Albany, Ga.;
four sons Todd Kofoed, Clear Lake, Jerry May,
Alphoretta, Ga., Roger May, Estherville, Iowa, and
Gary May, Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, David Broers
and his wife Lynn, Lisa Buehler and her husband Andy,
Kevin Broers, Nathan May, Amanda May, Earl May, Barbie
May, Melissa Morse, and Ryan Morse; four
great-grandchildren Adam and Sara Buehler and Madison
and Parker Broers; one sister, Clara Peterson, Mason
City.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; one
brother Louis Kofoed; one sister Lillie Henricksen.
George L. Brcka
George L. Breka, 84, of Britt, Iowa died Saturday,
April 21, 2001 at the Hancock County Memorial
Hospital, Britt. The funeral was held 10:30 a.m.,
Tuesday at St. Patrickıs Catholic Church in Britt with
the Rev. Fr. Marvin Bries officiating. Lector was
Randy Cink. Music was provided by organist, Brenda
Smith who accompanied vocalists, Tim Assink and
Allison Hejlik. Ushers were Allan Doughan and Marvin
Holck. Gift bearers were Andrew Higgins and Joseph
Higgins. Altar servers were Stephen Volcko, Adam Cink
and Ryan Pritchard. Pallbearers were Georgeıs
grandsons, Randy Cink, Thomas Cink, Larry Cink, Tony
Cink, Greg Brcka, Chad Brcka and David Brcka.
Interment was at St. Johnıs Catholic Cemetery, Duncan,
Iowa. Cataldo Funeral Home of Britt was in charge of
arrangements.
George Leo Brcka, the son of John George and Emily
F. (Kulas) Brcka, was born Sept. 2, 1916 at Britt. He
attended the rural schools in Erin Township and helped
his father with farming. On Jan. 9, 1940 he married
Marie Kopacek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in
Duncan. They farmed southeast of Britt where they
raised their family. In 1972, they retired from
farming
and lived in Garner for five years and Clear Lake
for twenty years. George
continued to work for Winnebago Industries and Iowa
Mold and Tooling. In 1997, George and Marie returned
to Britt and built a new home. He enjoyed fishing,
dancing, gardening and growing roses and gladiolas for
which he received ribbons at the county fairs. He was
also an avid ISU football fan.
George was a member of St. Patrickıs Catholic
Church in Britt and former member of St. Wenceslaus
Catholic Church in Duncan and St. Patrickıs Catholic
Church in Clear Lake. He was also a member of the
Catholic Workman Lodge #51 and was a 4th Degree Knight
of Columbus for fifty years.
George is survived by his wife, Marie of Britt;
five children, Janice Cink and her husband, Dennis, of
Wesley, Iowa, Kenneth Brcka and his wife, Kathy, of
Golden Valley, Minn., Dale Brcka of West Des Moines,
Iowa, Barbara Brcka of Mason City and Diane Higgins
and her husband, Daniel, of Cedar Falls, Iowa;
eighteen grandchildren; twenty-one
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Brcka and
his wife, Velma, of Iowa City, Iowa and Clarence Brcka
and his wife, Elizabeth, of Palm Desert, Calif.; and a
sister, Doris Chesshir of Lincoln, Neb
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a
granddaughter, Pamela Brcka.
Merlin Miller
Merlin Miller, age 70, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday,
April 17, 2001 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Merlin Raymond Miller was born in Iowa on April 10,
1931, was adopted by Walter and Lizzy Miller, and was
baptized in his faith on May 3, 1931 at St. Paulıs
Lutheran Church at Maple Leaf. Merlin lived with his
parents, Walter and Anna ³Lizzy² Miller on the farm,
until they moved into Riceville, Iowa and he lived at
home until Walter died in January, 1977. Merlin moved
into Opportunity Village in February, 1977 and lived
there for 24 years.
Merlin enjoyed country music, visiting with
friends, flowers, and reminiscing about his early
years. Merlinıs special friend for many years was
Joyce Engelbretson of Clear Lake.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday,
April 21 at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Riceville with burial in St. Peters Lutheran
Cemetery south of Riceville. The Rev. Alf Merseth
presided. Conway Funeral Home of Riceville assisted
with the arrangements. June Merseth accompanied the
congregation as they sang ³Rock of Ages² and ³Jesus
Lover of My Soul.² Pall bearers were employees and
friends from Opportunity
Village: Chris Cash, Mike Hall, Don Nichols, Wayne
Skyrme, John Cobb, John Olson, Johnny Schmidt, and
Gordon Peterson.
Merlin is survived by cousins. He was preceded in
death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy, in 1924.
Lois Lucille Blakewell
Lois Lucille Blakewell, 77, of 13431 Killdeer Ave.,
Clear Lake, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City,
Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 1, 2001,
at 1:30 pm at the United Methodist Church in Clear
Lake with the Rev. Frederick Lewis officiating.
Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Lois Lucille (Hammon) Blakewell was born March 13,
1924, near Garner, Iowa. She was the daughter of Sam
and Gertrude (Nuehring) Hammon. She graduated from
Garner High School in 1941. Lois married Clair
Blakewell on June 22, 1942, at the Little Brown Church
in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived and worked on a
farm near Burchinal from 1950 until they retired in
1978.
Lois continued to live on the family farm until her
death.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church,
the Esther Circle and the OWESO Club. She did lots of
handiwork, making quilts for many of her
grandchildren, birth samplers for her great
grandchildren, and embroidered dish towels as wedding
and birthday gifts.
Lois is survived by her husband, Clair Blakewell,
Clear Lake; eight children and their spouses, Marcella
and Bill Gremmer of Forest Lake, Minn., Milo and
Norene Blakewell of Burchinal, Iowa, Mary and Harlan
Rodberg of Forest City, Iowa, Marlin and Sharon
Blakewell of Clear Lake, Iowa, Milton and Francis
Blakewell of Mason City, Iowa, Margie and Larry Platts
of Mason City, Iowa, Marilyn and Ron Roof of Algona,
Iowa, and Mike Blakewell of Clear Lake; 26
grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her twin
brother, Lynn Hammon of Spring Valley, Minn.; one
sister, Doris Novak of Fertile, Iowa; and two

She was preceded in death by her parents; two

Russell A. Pals, 76, of 2 South 19th St., Clear
Lake, Iowa died Tuesday April 24, 2001 at Muse Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 26, 2001,
1 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa
with Rev. Fred Lewis officiating.
Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear
Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8
p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear
Lake, and one hour before the service on Thursday at

Russell was born Nov. 8, 1924 in Meservey, Iowa the
son of Charles K. and Kate (Barkema) Pals. He
attended school in Meservey. Russell married Mary
McCarthy Nov. 20, 1965 in Clear Lake.
Russell worked with his brother Stanley in
Thornton, Iowa operating a corn sheller and hauling
livestock until 1969. He then worked for Beck
Excavating in Clear Lake and then worked for Yohnıs
Ready Mix, Clear Lake for fifteen years retiring in
1995 due to health. He enjoyed working on his cars.
Russell is survived by his wife Mary Pals, Clear
Lake, Iowa; two children Sarah Belsky and her husband
Randy, Eau Claire, Wis. and Rustin Pals and his wife
Sandy, Mason City, Iowa; one sister, Marcele Kottman,
Thornton, Iowa; sister-in-law Berniece Pals, Thornton,
Iowa and Minnie Pals, Belmond, Iowa and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents;
two brothers Stanley and Raymond Pals; and three
sisters, Tena Hillmann, Ruth Syverson and Margaret
Hake.
WILLIAM PETERSON
William Joseph Peterson, 48, of Clear Lake, died
Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City after a lengthy illness.
The body has been cremated.
William was born Aug. 10, 1952 in Belmond, Iowa,
the son of Marvin and Margaret (Miller) Peterson. He
was baptized and confirmed in St. Patrickıs Catholic
Church in Clear Lake and attended Clear Lake schools.
William served in the Army during the Viet Nam War,
September 1969 to May 1971. He was a skilled carpenter
and his work can be admired in many different states.
He had been a self-employed carpenter for several
years. He also worked at many of the area construction
companies and for a short time at the Clear Lake
Bakery.
He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Reddy on Aug.
15, 1987. Two children became a part of that union.
He enjoyed raising and playing with all of his
children. His children and family were very special to
him. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, music,
sports, cars, and cycles. Billy was very laid back and
loved to make people laugh with his jokes and
storytelling, and had a tremendous flamboyant sense of
humor. He was very kind-hearted and fun loving.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Margaret
(Peterson) Groen of Plymouth, Iowa; his father and
step-mother, Marvin and Jean Peterson, of Clear Lake;
three children, George Marvin ³Spike² Peterson and
Zara McKenzie Peterson, both of Concord, N.H. and
Melissa Michelle Peterson of Clear Lake; four sisters,
Margaret Dorenkamp of St. Louis, Mo., Judy Smith and
her husband Ronald, of Titusville, Fla., Patricia
Buland and her husband Michael of Monument, Colo., who
is a special friend and brother-in-law to Billy, and
Mary Lou Wyborny and her husband, Michael, of Mason
City; a step-sister, Karen Green and step-brother,
Steve Elliott, both of Clear Lake; several aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his maternal
grandparents, William and Sophie Miller, and paternal
grandparents, Andrew and Inga Peterson; step-father,
Harm Groen; two uncles, Harvey and William Miller.
James F. Carew
James F. Carew, 63, died Sunday April 29, 2001, at
the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa,
Mason City, Iowa. A Service of Celebration and
Thanksgiving for the Life of James F. Carew will be
held Wednesday, May 2, 10:30 a.m. at the Galilean
Lutheran Church, Highway 18 W., Clear Lake. The Rev.
Peter Narum will be officiating. Inurnment will be
held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials
may be given to the James F. Carew Memorial Fund.
James was born Feb. 27, 1938, in Antigo, Wis.,
the son of James Murray and Julia Elizabeth (Halloran)
Carew. He graduated from high school in Elcho, Wis.,
in 1956, and graduated from the University of
Wisconsin, River Falls, Wis. in 1960 with a degree in
economics. James married Joyce Alpert, Nov. 28, 1964
in Bismarck, N.D. He had a long career of sales in
the Midwest. They moved to Clear Lake in 1976 from
the Cedar Rapids area. He worked at Zion Lutheran
Church as a custodian and later worked at Ventura
Schools. He was a dedicated husband, father and in
his involvement in helping others in AA. James was a
member of the Galilean Lutheran Church, and AA.
James is survived by his wife Joyce Carew, Clear
Lake; three sons, Michael Carew and his wife Patrice,
and their two children Jonathan and Erin, Clear Lake;
Paul Carew and his wife Kelly, and their daughter
Audrey, Ankeny, Iowa; and Steven Carew and his wife
Kristin, and their daughter Olivia, Ft. Dodge, Iowa;
one brother, Donald Carew, Denver, Colo.; and one
sister, Mary Ellen Sill and her husband Jerry,
Edgerton, Wis.
James was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother Murray Paul Carew.

Russell is survived by
his wife Mary Pals, Clear Lake, Iowa; two children
Sarah Belsky and her husband Randy, Eau Claire, Wis.
and Rustin Pals and his wife Sandy, Mason City, Iowa;
one sister, Marcele Kottman, Thornton, Iowa;
sister-in-law Berniece Pals, Thornton, Iowa and Minnie
Pals, Belmond, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers
Stanley and Raymond Pals; and three sisters, Tena
Hillmann, Ruth Syverson and Margaret Hake.
Donna Musgjerd Witherspoon
Donna Musgjerd Witherspoon, 68, a resident of Oakton,
Va., died Jan. 14, 2001 at the Hospice of Northern
Virginia. She had lung cancer. A memorial service for
Mrs. Witherspoon will be held on Saturday, May 5, at
10 a.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear
Lake with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. The family
will receive friends after the service at the home of
Miss Joanne Watkins, 215 N. Third Street, Clear Lake.
A private graveside will be held at Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions
to the Hospice of Northern Virginia, 6565 Arlington
Blvd., Suite 500, Falls Church, VA 22042 Born in
Thornton, Iowa, the daughter of Maud and Elmer
Musgjerd, Donna Witherspoon grew up in Clear Lake and
graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1949. She
received a B.A. degree from Northwestern University in
1953. During the 1950s, Donna worked for several firms
in New York City, including McCann Erickson and Royal
Dutch Shell. She moved to Washington in1960 where she
worked for Civil Air Transport and Air America. In
1965 she joined the public relations staff of the
Smithsonian Institution where she met Thomas C.
Witherspoon. They were married in 1966 and had two
children, Thomas Anders and Katherine Elaine
Witherspoon.
Mrs. Witherspoon
returned to work in 1980 and was employed by Corning
Glass Works and the Mobil Corporation, from which she
retired in 1996. She is survived by her husband Tom,
son Thomas Witherspoon and his wife Elizabeth P. Nash,
and daughter Katherine Witherspoon, all of whom reside
in Northern Virginia, and a brother, Robert D.
Musgjerd, of Wilmette, Ill. Donna is preceded in death
by her parents.
William Joseph Peterson
William Joseph Peterson, 48, of Clear Lake, died
Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City after a lengthy illness.
The body has been cremated.
William was born Aug.
10, 1952 in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Marvin and
Margaret (Miller) Peterson. He was baptized and
confirmed in St. Patrickıs Catholic Church in Clear
Lake and attended Clear Lake schools. William served
in the Army during the Viet Nam War, September 1969
toMay 1971. He was a killed carpenter and his work can
be admired in many different states. He had been a
self-employed carpenter for several years. He also
worked at many of the area construction companies and
for a short time at the Clear Lake Bakery.
He was united in
marriage to Jo Ann Reddy on Aug. 15, 1987. Two
children became a part of that union. He enjoyed
raising and playing with all of his children. His
children and family were very special to him. He also
enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, music, sports,
cars, and cycles. Billy was very laid back and loved
to make people laugh with his jokes and storytelling,
and had a tremendous flamboyant sense of humor. He was
very kind-hearted and fun loving.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Margaret
(Peterson) Groen of Plymouth, Iowa; his father and
step-mother, Marvin and Jean Peterson, of Clear Lake;
three children, George Marvin Spike Peterson and
Zara McKenzie Peterson, both of Concord, N.H. and
Melissa Michelle Peterson of Clear Lake; four sisters,
Margaret Dorenkamp of St. Louis, Mo., Judy Smith and
her husband Ronald, of Titusville, Fla., Patricia
Buland and her husband Michael of Monument, Colo., who
is a special friend and brother-in-law to Billy, and
Mary Lou Wyborny and her husband, Michael, of Mason
City; a step-sister, Karen Green and step-brother,
Steve Elliott, both of Clear Lake; several aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill was preceded in
death by his maternal grandparents, William and Sophie
Miller, and paternal grandparents, Andrew and Inga
Peterson; step-father, Harm Groen; two uncles, Harvey
and William Miller.
James F. Carew
James F. Carew, 63, died Sunday April 29, 2001, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa,
Mason City, Iowa. A Service of Celebration and
Thanksgiving for the Life of James F. Carew will be
held Wednesday, May 2, 10:30 a.m. at the Galilean
Lutheran Church, Highway 18 W., Clear Lake. The Rev.
Peter Narum will be officiating. Inurnment will be
held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials
may be given to the James F. Carew Memorial Fund.
James was born Feb. 27,
1938, in Antigo, Wis., the son of James Murray and
Julia Elizabeth (Halloran) Carew. He graduated from
high school in Elcho, Wis., in 1956, and graduated
from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, Wis. in
1960 with a degree in economics. James married Joyce
Alpert, Nov. 28, 1964 in Bismarck, N.D. He had a long
career of sales in the Midwest. They moved to Clear
Lake in 1976 from the Cedar Rapids area. He worked at
Zion Lutheran Church as a custodian and later worked
at Ventura Schools. He was a dedicated husband, father
and in his involvement in helping others in AA. James
was a member of the Galilean Lutheran Church, and AA.
James is survived by his
wife Joyce Carew, Clear Lake; three sons, Michael
Carew and his wife Patrice, and their two children
Jonathan and Erin, Clear Lake; Paul Carew and his wife
Kelly, and their daughter Audrey, Ankeny, Iowa; and
Steven Carew and his wife Kristin, and their daughter
Olivia, Ft. Dodge, Iowa; one brother, Donald Carew,
Denver, Colo.; and one sister, Mary Ellen Sill and her
husband Jerry, Edgerton, Wis. James was preceded in
death by his parents and one brother Murray Paul
Carew.
Goldie Alice Bitker
Goldie Alice Bitker, 88, of 210 N. 7th ST., Clear
Lake, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at her residence.
Services are pending at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, Iowa.
