Donn White
Donn E. White, 89, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000 at the Good
Shepherd Care Center, Mason City, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life was held
Saturday, Dec. 16, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Memorials may
be given to the Clear Lake Public Library Foundation, 200 N. 4th St.,
Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.
Donn was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the son of Jess M. and Cora (Wohlford)
White. The family moved to Hampton, Iowa where he graduated from Hampton High
School and started his newspaper career as a printer for the Hampton Chronicle
and Record. Donn married Rosemary (Pose) Jeanne Whitney
Oct. 10, 1932 in Freeport, Ill. During World War II, Donn worked at Lockheed on
the design of the P38 and XP80 airplanes. He continued his newspaper career in
advertising for the Pontiac (Mich.) News and Alhambra (Calif.) Post-Advocate
before coming to Mason City and joining the Globe Gazette
advertising staff in 1947. As publisher of the Globe Gazette he helped usher the
newspaper into the age of modern technology, retiring after 27 years. After his
retirement he ran for Clear Lake City Council because of what he saw as an
obligation to serve. People that lived here 100 years ago did things to improve
the town for me to live in. I felt it was my
responsibility to do the same for the future,² he said in 1978.
Donn was a longtime resident of Clear Lake and was active in many civic
activities in North Iowa. He served on the boards of the Mason City United Fund,
Junior Achievement, Mason City Development Assoc. and the North Iowa Fair Assoc.
He was also active in Mason City Toastmasters, Mason City
Kiwanis Club and the Winnebago Council of Boy Scouts. He was a past master of
the Verity Masonic Lodge in Clear Lake and was a member of Bethel Chapter, Royal
Arch Masons.
Donn loved to do wood carving, sculpting, and make jewelry. Family was
extremely important to Donn. Also, he enjoyed activities around the lake, making
sure the birds were fed throughout the long Iowa winters.
Donn is survived by his wife Rosemary (Pose) White, Mason City, Iowa; five
children, Diane Ashland and her husband Lloyd, Clear Lake, Judi Hansen and her
husband Norm, El Segundo, Calif., David White and his wife Christina,
Janesville, Wis., Rosemary Jeanne Achenbach, Arlington Heights,
Ill., and Ruth Ann McMonagle and her husband John, DePere, Wis. ; twelve
grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and one brother, John White and
his wife Helen, Sebastion, Fla.
Donn was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Hazel, Delores and
Ellen; and four brothers, Arthur, Lester, Theodore, and Harold.
Mary Ann Hughes
Mary Ann Hughes, 84, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000 at the Good
Shepherd Care Center, Mason City, Iowa. A Memorial Service was held Saturday,
Dec. 16, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Thomas
Healey officiating. Military Honors were by the Clear Lake V.F.W. An inurnment
will be held at the Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given
to the First Congregational Church Music Fund.
Mary Ann was born Jan. 6, 1916 in Clear Lake, the daughter of Melville
Prince and Celia (Clack) Hughes. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in
1934, Mason City Jr. College in 1936, and Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in
Des Moines, 1940. She enlisted in the Army Nurses Corps Jan. 19,
1943; Sept 1944 served in France and Germany 180th General Hospital where she
was Mobile Army Hospital Chief Nurse. She obtained Rank Captain Dec. 6, 1946 and
was Honorably Discharged Jan 29, 1946. Mary Ann was awarded the
Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Award. She moved back to
Mason City and worked at the Park Hospital until her retirement in 1979. She was
on the committee that set the Practical Nursing Program at NIACC and later the
two-year Register Nurse Program.
Mary Ann enjoyed needlework, reading, her rose garden, doing yard work. She
was a real sports fan, loved working on the angels at church, and especially
loved her family. She enjoyed fixing things around the house, painting and
wallpapering. She is a member of the First Congregational
Church, Clear Lake, and a 65-year-member of P.E.O. Chapter EA, and a life
member of the American Legion.
Mary Ann is survived by two sisters, Margaret Doudna, Colorado Springs,
Colo. and Katherine Short, Mason City, Iowa; one brother, Richard Hughes and his
wife Joan, Clear Lake, and eight nieces and eleven nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Melville Bud Hughes;
and one sister, Elizabeth Morrissey; two nephews and one niece.
Ralph Kimball
Ralph L. Kimball, 93, of 1019 S. 3rd St., Clear Lake, Iowa died Thursday,
Dec. 14, 2000 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, where he has been a
resident since Dec. 1, 2000. He was cremated and a graveside service will be
held in the Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date.
Ralph was born Oct. 16,
1907 in Clear Lake, the son of Fred and Cara (Lambert) Kimball. He was raised
and lived in Clear Lake his entire life. He married Bonnie Ennen August of 1975
in Cannon, S.D.
Ralph worked for Secory Plumbing until his retirement in 1976 and then
worked part time for the Harborage Pilot House until 1991. He always enjoyed
taking rides with his nephews and his guns. Ralph enjoyed staying busy with his
many projects.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Bonnie Kimball, Clear Lake; two
step-grandchildren, Linda Davenport, Pocahontas, Ark. and Randy Ennen and his
wife Verlinda, Garner, Iowa; three step-grandchildren; three step-great
grandchildren; and three nephews, Ralph Secory and his wife Karen, Larry Secory
and his wife Betty, both of Clear Lake, and Don Secory and his wife Marge,
California.

Kenneth Coulter
Kenneth E. Coulter, 43 of Monroe, Iowa died of lung cancer Dec. 16, 2000 at
Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 20 after 1 p.m. at Monroe United
Methodist Church. Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the
church with the Rev. Josue L. Florendo, pastor. Burial will be in Silent City
Cemetery, Monroe. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe in
charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Monroe United Methodist Church
or St. Judeıs Childrenıs Hospital.
Kenneth was born Oct. 6, 1957 at Waterloo, Iowa to Kenneth W. and Beverly
Coulter. He attended Clear Lake High School, graduating in 1976. He earned his
pharmacy degree and a masters degree from Drake University and did graduate work
at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Kenneth was
employed as a pharmacist. He lived in Monroe for five years and lived in
Ankeny, Iowa previously. He was married to Deborah Lynn Breheny Oct. 10, 1981
in Des Moines. He belonged to various professional pharmaceutical organizations
and the Monroe United Methodist Church.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Deborah; one son, Kenneth Robert, at home;
and one daughter, Katherine Ruth, at home; one brother, David Coulter of Clear
Lake, one sister, Karen Young of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and his parents.
Kenneth Blakley
Kenneth Blakley, 72, of Woden, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000 at St. Mary's
Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 22 at First Presbyterian Church in
Woden, Iowa with Rev. Roland Emond, Jr. as officiant. Music was provided by
organist, Emogene Kurtzleben who accompanied soloist, Bruce Wubben and
congregational hymns. Ushers were Paul Gerdes and Bob Eden.
Pall bearers were John
Kurtzleben, Ervin Tegtmeyer, Henry Ullmann, Floyd Ullmann, Allan Hanna and
Harold Haugen. Burial was in Bingham Township Cemetery, south of Woden, with a
flag presentation by the Woden American Legion Ceremonial
Unit. Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
Edward Kenneth Blakley, the son of Herman and Cynthia Hobart (Hite) Blakley,
was born Aug. 12, 1928 at Fordtown, Tenn. In March of 1929, he moved with his
family to Titonka, Iowa where they farmed. He attended the rural schools of
Titonka and then graduated from Buffalo Center High School
in 1947. He served his country for two years in the U.S. Army in Korea. Kenny
then worked for the Woden Produce for eight years. In 1961, he began farming in
the Woden area and continued until he retired in 1995. He loved fishing and
woodcarving for his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Woden American
Legion Post and the Titonka Woodcarverıs Club.
He is survived by two sisters, Anna Grace Bacon and her husband, Vern, of
Clear Lake and Donna Blakley of Woden; a niece, Diane Lovick and her husband,
Larry; a nephewıs wife, Bonnie Bacon, and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Blakley, Dec.21,
1988; and a nephew, Larry Bacon, June 29, 1993.
Vern Larson
Vern Larson, 85, 819 9th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died December 21, 2000 at his
home. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 23 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel with Jack Musker officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be to Hospice of North Iowa in the name of Vern Larson.
Vern was born March 7, 1915, the son of Andrew and Lena (Kittleson) Larson
in Clear Lake, Iowa. He was baptized at the Norwegian Church, Clear Lake on Feb
10, 1924. Vern married Phyllis Nellie Lucas Aug 5, 1938 in Albert Lea, Minn.
Vern was a
bricklayer, helping build schools, churches, libraryıs, etc.. All over the U.S.
He retired in 1980 for health reasons. In 2002 he would have been a 50 year
member of the Brick Layers Union. He was a member of the Brick Layers Union, BAC
#3, Des Moines, Iowa.
Vern married Marjorie Platts June 10, 1991 in Las Vegas, NV. For the past
six years Vern and Marjorie have served as volunteers at the Manly Care Center,
visiting and dancing for the residents. He enjoyed fishing trout and walleye all
seasons of the year. He also loved dancing.
Vern is survived by his wife Marjorie Larson, Clear Lake; one daughter Mary
Ann Hill, Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Sue Hill and her special friend Mark
Akers, Clear Lake, and Randy Hill, Clear Lake; five great-grandchildren,
Christopher, Amber, Jessica, Jennifer and Steven; three brothers, Alfred Larson
and his wife Jeanyce, Clear Lake, Roy Larson, Clear Lake, and Merle Larson and
his wife Ruth, Clear Lake; six step-children,
Dennis Miller and his wife Helen, Bremerton, Wash., Linda Stewart and her
husband Raymond, Romeoville, Ill., Larry Borchardt and his wife Lee, Praire
City, Iowa, Gladys Fanny and her husband Larry, Hampton, Iowa, Mary Muth and
her husband Dale, Longmont, Colo., and Marlene Williams and her husband Terry,
Lakeville, Minn.; sixteen step-grandchildren; many step great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Phyllis (Lucas)
Larson Aug 24, 1972, second wife Ideal; two sisters, Clara Mix and Florence
Peters; three brothers, Carl, Andrew (Casey) and Harry Larson.
Dolores Stinehart
Dolores LuWaine Stinehart, 79, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa died Wednesday
Dec. 20, 2000 at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were
held Saturday, Dec. 23 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake with Rev. Kermit
Roisen officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Dolores was born August 2, 1921, in Alexander, Iowa, the daughter of Herman
and Sophia (Lubkeman) Schloemer. She graduated from Latimer High School in 1939.
She married Orville E. Stinehart Aug. 4, 1940 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church,
Mason City. They lived in Northwood and then
moved to Clear Lake. She worked at the Coffee Shop and Young's Variety Store.
Orville and Dolores bought DeBrayn-Pugh Implement in Clear Lake and operated as
Stinehart Implement where she was the bookkeeper until their
retirement in the fall of 1977. Orville and Dolores celebrated their 60th
wedding anniversary August 4, 2000, and their greatest enjoyment was spending
time together. She enjoyed growing and raising flowers and being around people.
Dolores was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.
Dolores is survived by three children, Nancy Holman and her husband Robert,
Clear Lake, Susan Stinehart, and Sally Johnson and her husband Mark, Clear Lake;
five grandchildren, Jason Allen, Eddie Allen, Brian Allen, Robert Deckard and
Jameson Deckard; seven step-grandchildren Tracy Griffon,
Brian Holman, Robert Holman, Julie Brookman, Joshua Johnson, Jeremy Johnson and
Jacob Johnson.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Orville, who died
Sept 17, 2000; two brothers, Kenneth Schloemer and Virgil Schloemer.
Tillie Hinrichs
Tillie Hinrichs, 100, of Garner, Iowa died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at her
home in Prairie View Apartments.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 26 at St. John's Lutheran Church
northeast of Garner with the Rev. Carl Hedberg as officiant. Music was provided
by organist, Louise Boehnke who accompanied soloist Marilyn Hayes and
congregational hymns. Ushers were Scott Ollenburg and Harlan Hayes. Pall
bearers were her nephews, Harold Boehnke, Carrol Boehnke, Clarence Boehnke,
Armand Boehnke, Robert Boehnke, Eldon Boehnke, Philip Boehnke, Richard Boehnke,
Walter Boehnke, Mark Boehnke, David Boehnke, Lewis Boehnke and Dale Boehnke.
Burial was in St. Johnıs Lutheran Cemetery. Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, was in
charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Tillie Hinrichs
Memorial Fund.
Otillie Louise Hinrichs, the daughter of Carl August and Mathilda (Dorow)
Boehnke was born Nov. 15, 1900 at Garner. She was baptized and confirmed at St.
Johnıs Lutheran Church and attended St. John's Parochial School. After
receiving her L.P.N. Degree from Shenandoah Hand Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa,
she worked at Hand Hospital and also did private duty nursing. Tillie worked as
a nurse for Dr. C.V. Hamilton in Garner for many years. On Aug. 28, 1959, she
was married to William H. Hinrichs at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of
Garner. In August of 1995, she moved to Prairie View Apartments from her home
in Ventura. She enjoyed her family, friends, children, gardening and
entertaining.
She was lifetime member of St. Johnıs Lutheran Church, sang in the choir,
was a Sunday School and vacation Bible school teacher, belonged to Ladies Aid,
Lamplighters and the Ventura Garden Club.
She is survived by two brothers, Arthur Boehnke of Garner and the Rev.
Arnold Boehnke and his wife, Alice, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepson, Joel
Hinrichs of California and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Hinrichs, Jan. 26,
1975; six stepsons, Donald Hinrichs, Erich Hinrichs, William L. Hinrichs, Enoch
Hinrichs, Gerald Hinrichs and Allan Hinrichs; her parents, Carl and Mathilda
Boehnke and four brothers, Albert A. Boehnke, Charles F. Boehnke, William G.
Boehnke and Herman Boehnke.
Gail Wosepka
Gail Wosepka, 94, of Mason City, Iowa, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000 at
Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa, Mason City. She was cremated andgraveside
services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Opportunity
Village, Clear Lake.
Gail was born July 25, 1906 in Britton, S.D., the daughter of John and
Clarissa (Howe) Jones. She graduated from Britton High School and then attended
school of nursing in Aberdeen, S.D.
Gail married Lyle K. Wosepka and they lived in Britton and later moved to
Iowa in 1946. While they lived in Hampton, Iowa, she was employed as city
clerk. She was known for her tremendous sense of humor. Gail loved to travel,
play bridge, golf and enjoyed her dog, Pepie. She was a member of
the Eastern Star Lodge in Hampton.
Gail is survived by two sons, Lyle K. Wosepka Jr. and his wife Mariel,
Wilton, Calif., and Richard Wosepka. Mason City; a daughter-in-law Carol
Wosepka, Hampton; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband Lyle; three brothers, Ford, Kendrick
and Vincent Jones; two sisters, Ione Worman and Gladys Ramsey; and her son
Donald.
