Edward Levad
Levern H.
Nelson
Mr. Levern H. Nelson, 85, of
Fertile, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997 at his
home.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Church of Christ,
Fertile, with the Rev. Dennis Granz and Rev. Roger
Kampstra officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa was in charge of
arrangements. The family suggests memorials to the
Levern H. Nelson memorial fund.
Levern was born Jan. 29, 1912
in Grant Township, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, the son
of George W. and Agnes H. (Rasmussen) Nelson. He
attended country school in Grant Township.
Levern farmed with his father
on the family farm. Levern married Reva June Zirbel
on Feb. 20, 1934 at the Lutheran Church in Clear
Lake. They farmed north of Clear Lake until moving
into Fertile in 1961 where he had lived ever since.
He enjoyed reading, farming,
his John Deere tractors, work horses, going out to
eat and visiting with his friends. He was a former
member of the Fertile Consolidated School Board, and
4-H leader.
He is survived by a son, Larry
Nelson, and his wife, Donna, Hanlontown, Iowa; and
one daughter, Nancy Ingham and her husband, George,
Swaledale, Iowa; one sister, Edna Pederson, Fertile;
eight grandchildren, Wendy Ingham and her fiance,
Ron Wheeler, Wanda Avery and her husband, Denis,
Marcia Ingham, Laura Shropshire and her husband,
Randy, Marie Webb and her husband, Hugh, Christine
Fagg and her husband, Ned, Cheryle Kapka and her
husband, Dave and Lonny Nelson; 11
great-grandchildren, Jill Avery, Alex Avery, Ryan
Shropshire, Amanda Shropshire, Briana Webb, Houston
Webb, Harrison Web, Courtney Fagg, Audrey Benson,
Kelley Benson and Dean Kapka.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; and his wife on Jan. 29, 1987.
Organist was Bonnie Kuns and
soloist, Barbara Kuhn.
Honorary pallbearers were
Marcia Ingham, Wanda Avery, Wendy Ingham, Cheryl
Kapka, Christine Fagg, Marie Webb, Laura
Shropshire.
Pallbearers were Lonny Nelson,
Randy Shropshire, Hugh Webb, Ned Fagg, Dave Kapka,
Denis Avery, Ron Wheeler.
Scott
Jay Hill
Mr. Scott Jay Hill, 25, of
Charles City, Iowa, formerly of Mason City, Iowa,
died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997 at the Muse-Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical
Free Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Randy Vaage
officiating. Interment will be in Grant Township
Cemetery, RR Fertile, Iowa. Visitation will be held
today (Wednesday), Sept. 17, from 3-8 p.m. at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and one
hour prior to services at the church. The family
suggests memorials to the Comprehensive Systems or
Hospice of North Iowa.
Scott was born Sept. 25, 1971
in Mason City, the son of George A. and Merridy (Zirbel)
Hill. He attended the Iowa Braille and Sight Savings
School, Vinton, Iowa, until the age of 11. He then
moved to Comprehensive Systems in Charles City,
Iowa, where he has lived ever since. He worked at
the comprehensive work center.
Scott loved music, whistling,
camping, attending ball games, and going for walks.
He is survived by his mother,
Merridy Hill, Mason City; two sisters, Linda Clausen
and her husband, Michael, Mason City, and Gloria
Hill, Waterloo, Iowa; one brother, Randy Hill,
Charlotte, N.C.; two nephews, Brent Clausen and his
wife, Shelly, Sheffield, Iowa, and Joshua Clausen,
Mason City; one niece, Michaelle Bahnsen and her
husband, Brian, Des Moines, Iowa; one great-niece,
Alyson Clausen and two great nephews, Hunter Clausen
and Joseph Bahnsen; aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by
his father on Dec. 24, 1995.
