Hansen
Dorothy C. Hansen, 82, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died
Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997 at North Iowa Mercy Health
Center East Campus, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 29, at
Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Kermit Roisen officiating. Interment was in Clear
Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. The Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of
arrangements. The family suggests memorials to the
Zion Lutheran Church Radio broadcasting.
Dorothy was born July 10, 1915 in Sioux City,
Iowa, the daughter of Rev. Benjamin W. and Vera
Lucille (Hauswald) Riner. She graduated from Sheldon
High School in 1933. Dorothy moved to Clear Lake in
1934 and married Arnot Robert Hansen Nov. 14, 1934.
She graduated from Iowa Teachers College, Cedar
Falls, Iowa, with a degree in education, and from
Passevant Deaconess School of Nursing, Chicago, Ill.
in 1936. She taught in Grant Township #6 then in the
Rockford Elementary. She then worked for the Nursing
Home in Clear Lake for eight and one-half years.
Dorothy has been a member of Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake, since 1934 and helped Rev.
Murley Severtson with confirmation. She then took
over teaching classes for two generations. Dorothy
was one of the initial founders of the Zion Lutheran
Church Library and was very active in the Sunday
School Program. She was Past Grand Noble of Tina
Rebekah Lodge #135; Chaplain eight years of Star
Club; past president of AmVets Auxiliary, member of
VFW Auxiliary; National Federations of Grandmothers;
Life member of National and Iowa Educational
Association.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Arnot Hansen,
Minneapolis, Minn. and Harold Dean Hansen, Shakopee,
Minn.; and one daughter, Patricia Louise Davis,
Garden Grove, Calif.; grandmother of 10 and lots of
great-grandchildren; one sister, Vera Jean Kalde,
Vancouver, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
husband; stepfather and one grandson.
Organist Karen Harthan accompanied special music
provided by Paul and Anita Langholz and family.
Honorary pallbearers were the Tina Rebekah Lodge
#135.

Robert Cavanaugh
Robert Cavanaugh, 47, of St. Cloud, Minn.,
formerly of Mason City, Iowa died at his home
Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997 after a lengthy illness.
Military graveside services were held Friday,
Oct. 3, at Ft. Snelling, Minneapolis, Minn.
Memorials may be given to the charity of your
choice.
Robert was born Aug. 29, 1950 in Mason City,
Iowa, the son of Thomas and Kaye (Lattimer)
Cavanaugh.
He is survived by two daughters, Margo and Melisa;
his father, Thomas Vacanaugh, Mason City; four
sisters, Mary Beth Cavanaugh, Harve De Grace, Md.,
Kathy McMillan and her husband, John, Elgin, Iowa,
Jane Cavanaugh, Mendota, Minn., and Margaret
Cavanaugh, Burlington, Iowa; and one brother, Bill
Cavanaugh and his wife, Martha, Charles City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his
grandparents.
Donna Jean Foster
Donna Jean Foster, 50, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died
Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997 at Opportunity Village, Clear
Lake.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 1, at
First Presbyterian Church, Grand Junction, Iowa,
with the Rev. Richard King officiating. Interment
was in Junction Township Cemetery, Grand Junction.
Donna Jean Foster was born April 25, 1947 at the
hospital in Jefferson, Iowa. She was the daughter of
E. Fay and Lois Elenor Jewett Foster.
Donna spent her early childhood at home in Grand
Junction, Iowa, until she was five-years-old. The
next 34 years of her life were spent at specialized
schools at various locations.
On May 1, 1985, Donna Jean became a resident of
Handicapped Village, which later became Opportunity
Village at Clear Lake.
She is survived by her mother, Lois Freerksen of
Grand Junction; a brother, David Foster, Prior Lake,
Minn.; a sister, Karen Luchsinger, Toccoa, Ga.; two
nieces; one nephew; an uncle, Dale Jewett, Grand
Junction; and an aunt, Dorothy Neel of Panora, Iowa
and other relatives and friends.
Scott Freidow from Opportunity Village was a
speaker at the service. A vocal trio was performed
by Marilynn Hoskinson, Phyllis Wiebenga, Delite
Monahan, with Carson Griffith as accompanist.
Pallbearers were Larry Jewett, Tom Neel, Rick
Jewett, Michael Luchsinger, Roger Wessling, Norman
Smith, Jim Jewett, Joshua Timmons.
Arthur E. Ashland
Mr. Arthur E. Ashland, 76, of Clear Lake, Iowa,
died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997 at the North Iowa Mercy
Health Center East Campus, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 6, at
Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Kermit Roisen officiating. Interment will be in the
Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, with military
honors by the Clear Lake VFW. Family suggests
memorials to American Diabetes Foundation or
American Heart Association.
Art was born July 10, 1921 in Grant Township,
Cerro Gordo County, Iowa on the family farm the son
of John and Eva (Hanschu) Ashland. He graduated from
the Clear Lake High School in 1937. Art farmed in
the Clear Lake area and then attended Iowa State
University, Ames, Iowa.
Art served in the Army Air Corp during World War
II as a First Lt. and flew a B25 on over 32 missions
in the European Theater. He moved back to Clear Lake
following the war and worked for Duesenberg
Construction. He later drove a car transport out of
Pontiac, Mich., until 1958 then moved back to Clear
Lake. He operated a trucking business and later
farmed for over 20 years. Art married Eunice Bienert
on Nov. 24, 1961 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua,
Iowa. They moved to their present home in Clear
Lake.
He worked for Farm Bureau for over 20 years as
Hail Crop adjuster. He was well known in the area
for snow removal. He loved to fish, bowl, watch all
sports, farm, ride his motorcycle, and feed his
cats. He served on the Clear Lake VFW honor guard
for many years. Art was a loving husband and father
and will be sadly missed by all.
Art was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear
Lake, a life member of Clear Lake VFW and a charter
member Clear Lake AmVets.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Ashland, Clear
Lake; four children, Kathy Ashland, Las Vegas, Nev.,
Dixie Crump and her husband, Richard, St. Joseph,
Mo., Donna Hansen and her husband, Darrell, Pekin,
Ill., and Diane Heibel and her husband, Conrad,
Thornton, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 21
great-grandchildren; brothers, Ron Ashland and his
wife, Betty, Blair, Neb., Wayne Ashland and his
wife, Joan, Clear Lake, and John Ashland and his
wife, Barbara, Richfield, Minn.; two aunts, Edna
Ashland, Clear Lake, and Louise Ashland, Mason City,
Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son,
Robert Evenson; and one brother, Albert Ashland.

Florine Fredriksen
Florine Fredriksen, 70, of Clear Lake, died
Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
A funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Oct. 7 at St.
Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with the
Mosignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Burial was
in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Florine Fredriksen was born Dec. 3, 1926 in Mason
City, the daughter of Roy and Nellie (Woodyard)
Luther. She married Laurence Fredriksen on Nov. 15,
1949, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Florine grew up in Clear Lake and graduated from
Clear Lake High School in 1944. She attended Mason
City Junior College and graduated from Mercy Nursing
Program in Mason City. She then worked as a nurse at
Mercy Hospital and also at Opportunity Village for
many years.
Florine enjoyed traveling on cruises, doing
crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and reading. She was
an active volunteer in the community. She was a
member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the VFW
Auxiliary, the Iowa Blacksmiths and Welders
Association Auxiliary, and the North Iowa Wine
Club.
She is survived by her husband, Laurence
Fredriksen, Clear Lake; four children, Jon
Fredriksen and his wife, Kathleen Golding,
Washington, D.C., Mary Lauck and her husband, Allan,
Algona, Iowa, Paul Fredriksen and his wife, Ranae,
Clear Lake, and Ann Kaduce and her husband, Tim, St.
Paul, Minn.; five grandchildren, Christopher and
Allana Lauck, both of Algona, Nick and Rebecca
Fredriksen, both of Clear Lake, and Seth Kaduce, St.
Paul, Minn.; two nephews, Mike Blair, Greenville,
S.C., and Allan Frederickson, Boyce, Va.; and one
niece, Judy McNames, Fort Jones, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two
sons, Joseph and Mark; and one sister, Naomi Blair.
Wayne C. Bishop
Wayne C. Bishop, 87, of Benson,
Ariz., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997.
Memorial services were held
Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Community Presbyterian
Church in Benson. Burial was in Golden Cemetery,
Golden, Colo.
Mr. Bishop, his wife and daughter
moved to Clear Lake from Des Moines, Iowa, in 1943.
He was employed by Great Lakes Pipe Line
Company/Williams Brothers as chief clerk. He was
active in Masons and DeMolay during his years in
Clear Lake. The Bishops moved to Benson, Ariz. in
1970 at the time of Wayne's retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Mary,
Benson, Ariz.; daughter, Phyllis Burnham, Lakewood,
Colo.; one brother; and three sisters.
Agnes E.
Douglas
Services for Agnes E. Douglas, 75, of
Garner, Iowa, who died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997 at her
home will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Wednesday,
Oct. 22, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th
St., Garner, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick
officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Beverly
Cataldo. Private burial will be at a later date.
Agnes Eleanora Douglas, the daughter of Bernard and
Pauline (Brehm) Geerts, was born January 23, 1922 in
Regent, N.D. At the age of 13 she moved with her
family to Rock Island, Ill. where she graduated from
high school. On Feb. 14, 1941 she was married to
Lyle W. Douglas in Rock Island. They lived in Rock
Island, Ill., Florida, Albia, Iowa, Marshalltown,
Iowa, returned to Albia, Ottumwa, Iowa, Iowa City,
Iowa, and Garner.
She
worked at medical facilities at Rock Island, Service
Rubber Co. in Rock Island, Monroe County Hospital in
Albia, the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa,
University Hospitals in Iowa City, Concord Care
Center in Garner, Westview Care Center in Britt,
Iowa, and Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. She
enjoyed her family, friends, music, reading, art and
wrote letters for Amnesty International and articles
for Green Peace.
She is survived by her
children, Paula Milan and husband, Daniel, of
Oskaloosa, Iowa, Geoffrey Douglas and wife, Laurie,
of Phoenix, Ariz., Mark Douglas and wife, Karen, of
Ottumwa, Patrick Douglas of Ottumwa, Michael Douglas
and wife, Luanne, of Forest City, Iowa, and Marie
Douglas of Chula Vista, Calif.; fourteen
grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Sally Schatz of Des Moines, Iowa, and
Gladys McIntosh and husband, Maurice, of San Diego,
Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Geerts of
Calif. and Rose Geerts of Bettendorf, Iowa, and many
nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her infant son, Bruce Douglas;
parents; two brothers, Victor Geerts and Clemens
Geerts and a sister, Viola Dodds.

Randolph Zeiger
Douglas (Doug) Randolph Zeiger, 69, of Clear Lake,
Iowa, and Hudson, Fla., died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997
at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason
City, Iowa.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct.
21, 1997, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake with
the Rev. Jana Swenson officiating. The Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear
Lake, was in charge.
Douglas (Doug) Randolph Zeiger, was born on March
25, 1928 in Hampton, Iowa, in Franklin County, the
son of Randolph (Randy) and Maude (Lumley) Zeiger.
He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and attended
Sheffield School system graduating from Sheffield
High School. After completing his schooling he
farmed on the family farm in the Thornton area. As a
young man, he transported German prisoners of war
from Algona, Iowa, to a Clear Lake seed company.
During his life he was a
cosmetologist and owner and operator of “Doug’s
Beauty Salon” in Clear Lake for eight years. He also
drove truck for Dugan Transport Company in Clear
Lake until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to
Iona Floy on March 25, 1945 in Garner, Iowa, and to
this union were born two children, Cherri and
Bradley. He enjoyed boating, traveling to Hudson,
Fla., flea markets, collecting model ships,
collecting guns, drinking coffee, visiting with his
friends, and he was good at fixing things. His great
love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He was a member of the Moose
Lodge #1328 in Mason City, Independent Order of Odd
Fellows #187 in Clear Lake and was a life member of
the NRA.
Left to cherish his memory are

Hamilton
Mr. Jerry Lee Hamilton, 53, of
Sheffield, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at the
Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, at
1:30 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating.
Following services, he will be cremated. Visitation
will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 4-8 p.m. and 9 a.m.
Thursday at the funeral home. Military honors will
be by the Clear Lake V.F.W. The family suggests
memorials in his name.
Jerry was born in Readlyn,
Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Irene (Brighton)
Hamilton. He attended school in Rockwell, Iowa.
Jerry served in the U.S. Navy and following the
service he moved back to the family farm south of
Rockwell. He worked at the Clear Lake Bakery, and
later drove the Easter Seal Bus.
On July 22, 1992 Jerry married
LInda Lamfers in Mason City, Iowa. They moved to an
acreage in 1993.
Jerry enjoyed playing his
guitar, listening to 50’s-60’s rock music, working
around the garage, and on his antique tractor. His
greatest enjoyment was reading to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife,
Linda Hamilton, Sheffield; a son, Michael Hamilton,
Cedar Falls, Iowa; three step-children, Vernon
Kluender and Katie Kluender, both of Sheffield, and
Lisa Iowa, Mason City, Iowa; two step-grandchildren,
Faith Iowa and Skylar Marshall, both of Mason City;
one sister, Janet Bronner and her husband, Roger,
Rochester, Minn.
He was preceded in death by
his daughter, Jennifer Hamilton; and a brother, Jim
Hamilton; and his parents.
