Mr. Charles Thronson, 90, of
Ventura, Iowa, died Monday, June 30, 1997 at the
Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be held
today (Wednesday), July 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with
Rev. John W. Hemann of St. Boniface Catholic Church,
Garner, Iowa officiating. Interment will be in the
Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. Visitation will
continue Wednesday at the funeral home.
Charles was born four miles
south of Ventura, Iowa on July 8, 1906, the son of
Albert and Josephine (Stork) Thronson. He attended
Union #4 school south of Ventura.
Charles farmed with his dad
and continued to farm with his sister and
brother-in-law for 65 years. He also did trucking
for the area farmers. Charles enjoyed his pets on
the farm. He especially loved spending time with his
nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was a
member of Ventura Elevator for over 23 years.
Due to ill health he moved
into the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, May 1995.
He is survived by a sister,
Maxine Ormsby and her husband, Jim, Ventura; three
nieces, Kathy Meinecke and her husband, Don, Forest
City, Iowa, Karen Purcell and her husband, Dan,
Clear Lake, and Joan Losey and her husband, Brad,
Clear Lake; seven great-nieces and nephews,
Christopher Meinecke, Jennifer Meincke, Mike
Purcell, Matthew Purcell, Benjamin Purcell, Rachel
Purcell and Courtney Losey.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; one brother, Francis Thronson; and one
great-niece, Sarah Purcell.

Nora Emma
Strain, 92, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Friday, July
4, 1997 at the Muse-Norris Hospice In-Patient Unit
in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, July 8, at the Clear
Lake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred
Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake
Cemetery, Clear Lake.
Memorials may
be made to the Clear Lake United Methodist Church or
the American Heart Association.
Nora was born
Dec. 13, 1904 in Lake Mills, Iowa, the daughter of
Jacob Abraham and Josephine (Zirbel) Halsor. She
graduated from Mason City High School in 1923 and
went on to complete a business course in preparation
for employment as a bookkeeper for the Currie-Van
Ness Co. for two years.
On Jan. 25,
1925 she was united in marriage to Hugh Patton
Strain at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
The couple moved to a farm in Union Township in
rural Clear Lake in 1925. After many years on the
farm, they moved into Clear Lake in 1953. Nora
managed family farms throughout the years with her
husband and continued even after his death in
February 1983. She also sold DeKalb Seed Corn for 15
years.
Nora was a
talented ceramic artist who won many blue ribbons.
She created ceramics which are now owned in Brazil,
Germany, Austria and South Africa. Nora and Hugh
wintered in California for 14 years.
She was a
member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake,
where she was active in the church circles, as well
as the building committee. Along with Lucille
Buchanan, she helped to organize the Union Dozen
Club and remained a leader of the club for 35
years.
Nora is
survived by nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband; two
sisters and three brothers.
The organist
was Mary Jane Reynolds. Special music was provided
by Marilyn Sadler and Scott Sadler.

Mr. Howard
Walter Cash, 99, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, July
5, 1997 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral
services will be held today (Wednesday), July 9, at
1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Clear
Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating.
Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear
Lake. The family suggests memorials to the Howard
Walter Cash Memorial Fund.
Howard was
born Sept. 24, 1897 in Maple Park, Ill., the son of
Walter and Elsie (Beachman) Cash. At the age of four
he moved with his family to a farm north of Clear
Lake.
On July 24,
1918 he was united in marriage with Ruth Yohn in
Clear Lake. The couple continued to live on Howard's
family farm until moving into Clear Lake in 1959.
Howard loved
to hunt pheasants and ducks, as well as go fishing.
He was a member of the Farm Bureau and served on the
ASC Board for more than 15 years. He also was a
member of the Clear Lake Farmer's Co-op and Ventura
Co-op, serving on both boards of directors.
He is survived
by a son, Raymond 'Pete' Cash and his wife, Betty,
of Clear Lake; four daughters, Winifred Lane and her
husband, Al, of Anaheim, Calif., Gayle Martin of
Tucson, Ariz., Peggy Gildea of Tempe, Ariz., and
Billi Molencamp and her husband, Roy, of
Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Iola Cash, of
Ventura; and 20 grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, on
Sept. 11, 1980; a son, Robert Cash, on April 4,
1993; brothers, Leonard and Harry Cash; and a
great-grandson, Bryon Bless.
Robert
L. Jenison
Robert L. Jenison, 65,
Westport, Conn., died Sunday, July 6, 1997 at his
home of Lou Gehrig's disease.
Funeral services will be
Thursday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Belmond, Iowa, with the Rev. Jim Carpenter
officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond
Cemetery, Belmond. Military rites will be under the
direction of the Belmond Guard.
Mr. Jenison, the son of Earl
and Hazel Jenison, was born April 5, 1932 in
Pleasant Township, rural Belmond. He graduated from
Belmond High School in 1950 and married Nancy
Johnson in 1951. After attending Iowa State College,
he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and
served with Patrol Squadron Sixteen (VP-16) during
the Korean conflict.
He joined International
Business Machine (IBM) Corporation in 1956 and
worked in various management capacities with the
organization in Charles City and Cedar Falls, Iowa;
Minneapolis, Minn.; Fargo, N. Dak.; and Madison,
Wis. While in Wisconsin, Mr. Jenison was active as a
volunteer firefighter for the Mt. Horeb Fire
Department and established the city's first
Emergency Medical Service. He was active in the
Lutheran Church and served as an officer of the
church in Mt. Horeb.
In 1978, he and his wife moved
to Belmond where he became part owner of Helland and
Long Implement Company. Later he worked as an
officer of Keifer Built, Inc. and District
Representative for Aid Association for Lutherans. An
avid Clear Lake sailer, he also served as an officer
of Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond and was a
member of the Board of Directors of Opportunity
Village in Clear Lake.
He is survived by his son, Dr.
Rick Jenison, Phd., Madison, Wis.; his daughter, Dr.
Jane Jenison Olson, M.D. of Westport, Conn.; three
grandchildren; two brothers, George and Leland,
Belmond; and two sisters, Elna Day, Mason City, Iowa
and Ardeth Laake Belmond..

Stanley was born Feb. 11, 1929
on a farm in rural Ventura, Iowa, the son of George
and Dora (Ebaugh) Ballantyne. At a young age he
moved with his parents to Argus, Ind. Following high
school, he served in the United States Marine Corps.
After the service he moved to Clear Lake, and was
employed by Brick and Tile in Mason City.
On April 15, 1950 he was
united in marriage to June Marker in Mason City.
He was employed by various
dairies as a route driver, then was supervisor for
Anderson-Erickson Dairy, retiring in 1991. After
retirement, he enjoyed spending time on the golf .
Stanley was a member of Zion
Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and Teamsters Local.
He is survived by his wife,
June, Clear Lake; four daughters, Roz Geyer and her
husband, Gary, Des Moines, Iowa, Julie Secory and
her husband, Joel, Clear Lake, Jody Avery and her
special friend, Patrick Noonan, Omaha, Neb., and
Patty VanScoy and her husband, Rich, of Urbandale,
Iowa; three brothers, Bill Ballantyne and his wife,
Irene, of Clear Lake, Dick Ballantyne and his wife,
Ethel, Mason City, and Gary Ballantyne and his wife,

Richard 'Dick' Earl Mack, 64,
of Mason City, Iowa, died Monday, July 14 at home.

Friday, July 18 at the First Congregational Church,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood
officiating of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason
City. Graveside services were held by Rev. Thomas
Healey of First Congregational Church, Clear Lake,
and military honors were by the Mason City Veterans
Memorial Association. Interment was in the Clear
Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. The Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of
arrangements. The family suggests memorials the
Richard Earl Mack Memorial fund.
Dick was born June 20, 1933 in
Clear Lake, the son of Earl E. and Hallie (Bell)
Mack. In 1951 he graduated from Clear Lake High
School where he was an outstanding football player.
During the Korean War, Dick served in the U.S. Army
as a dispatcher and driver in Trieste, Italy.
After the service he attended
Mason City Junior College and worked as an auto body
mechanic for Birum Olson Garage and Mason City Auto
Body Works. Dick was married to Margaret M. Fisher
on May 22, 1959. Margaret died in 1987.
An avid bowler, Dick was a
member of the Rose Bowl bowling team. He also
enjoyed cards, hunting, fishing and gardening. He
was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason
City, the Moose Lodge, and V.F.W. Post 733.
He is survived by his mother,
Hallie Mack, Clear Lake; his sister, Audrey Peterson
and her husband, Bill, Clearwater, Fla; an aunt,
Carol Josten, Minneapolis, Minn; an uncle, Donald
Bell, Sun City, Ariz.; nephews, David, Steven,
Michael and wife, Debbra, Jeffrey and wife, Missy

Arthur C. Seidel, 83, of Mason
City, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at North
Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, July 19 at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel,
Mason City, with the Rev. Harvey Seidel officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City,
with military honors conducted by the Mason City
Veterans Memorial Association.

Arthur C. Seidel was born on
April 20, 1914 in Worth County, the son of Charles
and Maude (Wood) Seidel. He attended country schools
in rural Lincoln Township.
After receiving his schooling,
he farmed for a short time prior to entering the
military service in 1942. Arthur served in the U.S.
Army during World War II in the Amphibious
Engineering Batallion. He received the Purple
Heart.
After his military service, he
returned to farming northwest of Mason City.
On Jan. 15, 1946, he was
united in marriage to Evelyn Bishop at Mason City.
The couple moved to Mason City
in 1967 and Arthur was employed by the Cerro Gordo
County Farm, until retirement in 1978.
He was a member of Grace
United Methodist Church, Mason City.
He is survived by two
brothers, Frank Seidel, Hanlontown, Iowa, Marcus
Seidel, Mason City; one sister, Mrs. Florence
Benjegerdes, Mason City; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; his wife, Evelyn; an infant daughter;
two sisters, Mary Schlotterback, Melissa Wichman;
and four brothers, Lock Seidel, Charlie Seidel,
Clarence Seidel and an infant brother.

Mae Tuttle
Mrs. Ethel Mae Tuttle, 91, of
rural Clear Lake, Iowa, died Friday, July 18, 1997
at her home.
Funeral services were held
Monday, July 21 at the Clear Lake United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis
officiating. Graveside services were held at Belmond
Cemetery, Belmond, Iowa. The family suggests
memorials be made to the Ethel Mae Tuttle Memorial
Fund.
Ethel was born Oct. 5, 1905 in
Belmond, the daughter of Willis Sylvester and Nellis
Rose (Bulis) Luick. She graduated from Belmond High
School in 1924 and then earned a Normal Training
Certificate to teach school. She taught rural
school, as well as first grade at the Fertile
Consolidated School from 1960-71.
On Jan. 4, 1928 she married
Morgan Tuttle in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The couple
farmed in the Belmond and Clarion areas from
1928-47. They moved to Clear Lake in 1947. Morgan
died April 17, 1968.
Ethel enjoyed living on a farm
throughout her life, but she also delighted in
traveling all over the world. One of her greatest
joys was being with her grandchildren.
She was a member of the Clear
Lake United Methodist Church, the Fertile Garden
Club and Neighborhood Livewires Birthday Club.
She is survived by three
children, Robert Carl Tuttle, Mason City, Iowa,
Betty Mae Waddington and her husband, Don,
Hanlontown, Iowa, and Merle Luick Tuttle and his
wife, Marsha, of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren,
Timothy Tuttle and his wife, Linda, of Fertile,
Iowa, Mark Tuttle of Joice, Iowa, Robin Harms and
her husband, Randy of Joice, Danny Tuttle and his
wife, Brenda, Mason City, Vicky Graf and her

Mildred J. Burckhardt, 84, of
Waseca, Minn., formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died
Sunday, July 20, 1997 at the Waseca Area Medical
Center.
Memorial services will be held
Thursday, July 24, at 2 p.m. at the First
Congregational Church in Waseca, with the Rev.
Robert Christian, Rev. Markus Hill and Rev. Grant
Hill officiating. Private interment will be in the
Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.
The family will greet friends
one hour prior to services on Thursday at the
church. Memorials are preferred to the Human
Society. McRaith Funeral Home of Waseca is handling

Mildred Josephine Burckhardt,
the daughter of Alfred and Emma (Frankenfield)
Seeley, was born on Jan. 5, 1913, in Boscobel, Wis.
She was a graduate of Boscobel High School. On April
16, 1932 she was united in marriage to Arthur Lewis
Burckhardt in Boscobel. The Burckhardt's resided in
Boscable until 1937, when they moved to Clear Lake.
After her husband's death in 1984, she moved to
Waseca where her daughter's family resided. She was
a member of the Waseca Senior Citizens, and the
First Congregational Church of Waseca, the Clear
Lake V.F.W. Auxiliary, and a former long time member
of the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake.
She is survived by two
daughters, Cynthia Ashland and her husband, Roger,
of Waseca, Sally Hill and her husband, Wayne of
Victoria, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and 26
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her husband on Dec. 28, 1984; a daughter, Sylvia Ann
in 1966; and eight siblings.

Carl A. Bluedorn, 88, of
Waterloo, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997 at Allen
Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
Memorial services were held
Saturday, July 12 at Westminster Presbyterian
Church, with private family committal services at
Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be
directed to Grout Museum or to Iowa State University
Foundation.
Carl was born April 10, 1909,
in Walcott, the son of Rudolph and Rosa Siebke
Bluedorn. He married Naomi Muir on June 10, 1933,
and they were later divorced. He then married Peggy
Pearl Rudy in 1970 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mr. Bluedorn graduated from
Iowa State University in 1931 with a degree in civil
engineering. He received an Honorary Doctor of Law
Degree from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, and was
president and owner of Ziedler, Inc., until 1977.
Carl also had a home in Clear
Lake.
He is survived by his wife; a
daughter, Ann Gawenus of Horseheads, N.Y.; children
whom they raised, A.W. `Dutch' Schulz of St. Joseph,
Mo., Ruth Schultz Hoover of Lake Oswego, Ore., and
Mary Schulz Barham of Gladstone, Mo.; 13
grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a
grandson; and five brothers.

Peitzke
Muriel Peitzke, 84, of Clear
Lake, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at the Willowcreek
Healthcare Center, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held
today (Wednesday), July 23, at 10 a.m. at the Clear
Lake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred
Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake
Cemetery.
Visitation will continue one
hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.
Muriel Peitzke was born July
18, 1913 at Grant Township, the daughter of George
and Mabel (Peterson) Peitzke.
She enjoyed crafts, gardening,
and her flowers. She especially loved raising
roses.
Muriel was a past member of
the Colonial Club.
She was a member of the Clear
Lake United Methodist Church, and was active in the
ladies circles there until a few years ago.
She is survived by her
brother, Warren Peitzke, Clear Lake; and several
cousins.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; and one brother in infancy.

Hartnett
Pamela Yvonne Hartnett, 49, of
Clear Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, July 24, 1997 at
her home in Clear Lake.
A funeral mass was held
Saturday, July 26 at the St. Patrick's Catholic
Church in Clear Lake with Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka
officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
The family of Pamela Yvonne
Hartnett has requested that memorial contributions

Pamela Yvonne Hartnett was
born on Dec. 20, 1947, in Forest City, Iowa, the
daughter of Donald and Violet (Askildson) Albertson.
She attended and received her education in the
Forest City School System, graduating from Forest
City High School. She also attended and graduated
from Waldorf College. She was united in marriage to
Donald Hartnett on Oct. 6, 1984 in Clear Lake.
During her life she worked at the Corner Drug Store
in Clear Lake as their secretary and was also
co-owner of the `Antiques on Main Street' in Clear
Lake.
She enjoyed antiques, cooking
and gardening, but her great love and enjoyment was
her family and friends.
She was a member of St.
Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake.
She is survived by her
husband, Donald Hartnett, Clear Lake; her mother and
father, Violet and Donald Albertson, Forest City;
one daughter, Jody Davis, Mason City; one son, Jason
Davis and his fiance, Amy Melsa of Cedar Rapids,
Iowa; four step-children, Richard Hartnett and his
wife, Donna of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Mark Hartnett and
his wife, Denise of Williamsburg, Iowa, Tim Hartnett
and his wife, Karin of River Falls, Wis., and Kevin
Hartnett and his wife, Jenny of Clear Lake; eleven
grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Albertson and
his wife, Judy, Palm Beach, Fla., and Brian

Harvey was born the youngest
of five children on Feb. 26, 1920 to Harvey and
Myrtle (Whitman) Coe on the family farm in Clear
Lake. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He loved to
fish and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Harvey was a
man of many hats, his talents ranged from
woodworking and metalworking to being an
accomplished softball pitcher.
He is survived by his wife,
Pearl; a son, David and Shari Coe, of Clarksville,
Ark.; a step-daughter, Jean and Frank Lee of
Alexandria, Va.; two step-sons, Jerry and Janet
Bollman, Lynn and Lois Bollman, both from
Minneapolis, Minn.; a grandson, Brian Coe, Des
Moines, Iowa; seven step-grandchildren; a sister,
Ethel Johnson, Hudson, Iowa; and nieces and nephews
from both families.

Eugenia (Jeanne) Pearl Clark
was born on Dec. 15, 1937 in Rush City, Minn. in
Isanti County, the daughter of Charles and Margie
(Chelberg) Wieland. She was baptized on June 12,
1938 in Rush Lake Lutheran Church, Rush Lake, Minn.,
and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through
confirmation on May 20, 1951, at the Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Lake Johanna, Minn. She attended
and graduated from Central High School in
Minneapolis, Minn. She was united in marriage to
Thomas Clark on Jan. 4, 1957, at the Zion Lutheran
Church in Minneapolis. After their marriage they
lived in Bloomington, Minn., where she worked as a
cashier for the Country Club Grocery Store from 1960
until 1973. After moving to Clear Lake, in 1974 she
began working for Opportunity Village in Clear Lake
on the Cottage Staff at the Oakhill Cottage and
later as the Food Service Director for Opportunity
Village until 1995.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles,
cribbage, canasta, cooking for family and friends,
and watching her grandchildren play hockey, and
family and friends.
Jeanne was a member of Zion
Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
She is survived by her
husband, Thomas Clark, Clear Lake; her children, Ken
Clark and his wife, Liz, Worthington, Minn., Jodi
Robbins and her husband, Tim, Waterloo, Iowa, Tommy
Clark and his wife, Sonya, Clear Lake, and Jami
Harringa and her husband, Steve of Olathe, Kan.; 10
grandchildren, Mitchell, Kelsi, Ben, Cory, Joshua,
Casey, Chrystin, Emily, Carli, Breckie; three
sisters, Charleen, Emily, Minn., Linda and her
husband, Terry, Milaca, Minn., and Amy Jo of Emily;
as well as other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; and one sister, Brecky.
