Diana Louise Greco-Goetz
Diana Louise Greco-Goetz, 49, of
Clear Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, Feb.
22, 1997 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Her body was cremated. Memorial services were held Monday, Feb. 24, at Galilean
Lutheran Church, Hwy. 18 West, Clear Lake, with Pastor John Beck officiating.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Galilean Lutheran Church adult classroom building
fund, in memory of Diana Louise Greco-Goetz.
Diana Greco was born Aug. 20, 1947 in Carmel, N.Y., the daughter of
Ralph Donald and Josephine (Hunter) Chadwick. She was married to Dr.
Henry L. Goetz on Nov. 27,1996. Diana lived many placed in the United States and
abroad as an army child. She obtained a bachelor of arts degree from Indiana
University in 1969. She was employed ‘as administrative assistant to the
director of regulator affairs for Electronucleonics, Columbia, Md.
She was noted for her beauty, charm and sweetness. She had strong faith and
courage in the face multiple sclerosis and leukemia. She had a beautiful singing
voice and was in many choirs. She was a gourmet cook.
Diana was a former volunteer in the chaplain’s office, Montgomery General
Hospital, Olney, Md. She was a beloved member of Galilean Lutheran Church where
she was active in the women’s society. She was such a vital member of adult
Bible class that the new adult classroom will be named in her honor. She was
also a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
She is survived by her parents, Col. Ralph D. and Josephine Chadwick, The
Plains, Va.; her husband, Dr. Henry Goetz, Clear Lake; one brother, Dan
Chadwick and his wife, Martha, Spokane, Wash.; and two nieces,
Rebecca James and .Kat Chadwick.
Mr. Wilbur S. Overgaard
Mr. Wilbur S. Overgaard, 83, of Ventura,
Iowa, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997 in Mission, Texas.
Memorial services were held Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Ventura United Methodist
Church, Ventura, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Inurnment will take
place at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of services.
Wilbur was born March 30, 1913 in Ventura, the son of John and Margaret
(Ashland) Overgaard. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1931 and then
attended junior college in California.
On Jan. 15, 1938, Wilbur married Cleo Coe in Mason City, Iowa. He was a charter
member of Ventura Gun Club, belonged to the Masonic Lodge, was a past member of
Ventura School Board, and the Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura. He
farmed and was a carpenter and contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo Overgaard, Ventura; four children, Margaret
Welter, Monticello, Iowa, John Overgaard and his wife, Virginia, Ventura, Iowa,
Russell Overgaard and his wife, Gail, Steamboat Springs, Cob., and Janis
Atichison and her husband, Dwight, Lakeville, Minn.; one sister, Alice Ray,
Glendale, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters.
Erma A. Brue
Erma A. Brue, 81, of Fertile, Iowa, died
Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997 at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), Feb. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the
Fertile Lutheran Church, Fertile, with the Rev. Roger Kampstra officiating.
Burial will be in Grant Center Township. Visitation will continue one hour
before the funeral at the church. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel is in charge of
arrangements.
Erma Arlene Hennis was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Grant Township, Cerro Gordo County,
the only child of Vern and Mary (Back) Hennis. She attended Grant Center School
for eight years and in 1933 graduated from Fertile High School. She attended
Grant Center Sunday School as a child, but later attended the Fertile Lutheran
Church. She accepted Christ as her personal savior in August 1933.
On Nov. 28, 1934 she married Stanley Brue at the Fertile Lutheran
Church. They lived on farms, until 1979, They raised and showed Arabian horses
until their retirement to Fertile.
They also owned and operated Brue’s Processing Plant in Fertile during the
1960's.
She was a pianist and organist for about 60 years, both in the church and for
community affairs. She played for many years as a member of the Clear Lake
Evangelical Free Church. Recently, she was organist at Fertile Lutheran Church.
In retirement, she enjoyed gardening and woodworking with her husband. Her
lifelong passion for writing included frequent correspondence, family and
community histories and poetry.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley A. Brue of Fertile; daughter, Mary
Annette Baca and her husband, Gary, of Denver, Cola.; six grandchildren, Michael
Brue of Alvarado, Minn. and a friend, Carol Graham of Grand Forks, N.D., David
Brue of South St. Paul, Minn., Steven Lovik and his wife, Tarh of Kapolei,
Hawaii, Scott Lovik and his wife, Laura, Clear Lake, Angela Healy and husband,
John, Corinth, Texas, and Bridget Glenn and husband, Gary, Mesa, Ariz.; seven
great- grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, David.
Mr. Leon E. (Lee) Sheldon
Mr. Leon E. (Lee) Sheldon, 56, of Clear Lake,
Iowa, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East
Campus, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Interment will be in Oakwood
Cemetery, Austin, Minn. following services. The family suggests memorials to the
Leon E. Sheldon
memorial fund.
Lee was born May 1, 1940 in Osage, Iowa the son of Leonard and
Beulah (Molstad) Sheldon Sr. Lee attended school in Austin and then entered the
United States Army.
On Nov. 23, 1966 Lee married Gladys Albers Whipple in Forest City, Iowa. They
lived in Forest City from 1966-1979 and later moved to Clear Lake where they
lived since. Lee enjoyed fishing, hunting and tinkering with motors.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Sheldon, Clear Lake; two daughters, Betty
Sheldon and LaBeth Sheldon, both of Clear Lake; a step-son, Kevin Whipple, Iowa
City, Iowa; one sister, Sandra Dunn, Austin; and one brother, Leonard Sheldon
Jr., Austin; his step father, Harley Johnson, Austin; his mother-in-law,
Elizabeth Albers, Buffalo Center, Iowa; a step-brother; step-sisters; and many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one step sister.

Monday, Feb. 24, 1997 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City,
Iowa.

David J. Nelson
David J. Nelson, 74, Mankato, Minn., died
Monday, Feb. 10, 1997 in New Braunfels, Texas.
His body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
David J. Nelson is the son of Elmer and Lucy Nelson, formerly of Clear Lake.
Viola Madsen
Viola Madsen, 78, of Clear Lake, died Sunday,
Feb. 16, 1997 at her home.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City,
Iowa.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Viola Madsen Memorial Fund.
Viola was born Sept. 30, 1918 in Comfrey, Minn., the daughter of Knute and
Elizabeth (Kittelson) Lenning. She was united in marriage to Clarence Madsen
Sept. 1, 1945 in Mason City. The couple lived in Mason City for a short time
before moving to Clear Lake, where she resided until her death.
She enjoyed sewing, baking, doing crafts and visiting her neighbors. She and her
husband were also avid bowlers.
She is survived by a son, Gerald Madsen, Clear Lake; a daughter, Donna McCorkle
and her husband, Jon, of Mason City; a brother, Arthur Lenning, of Vallejo,
Calif.; a sister, Minnie Findlay, Mason City; three grandchildren, Kristine
Penca and her husband, Mike, Mary Witt and her husband, Jeremy, and Nicholas
McCorkle, all of Mason City; and three great-grandchildren, Clay Penca, Maysen
Simmer and Paisley Witt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence in 1986; five
sisters, Olive, Mary, Clara and Ina; and four brothers, Ed, Edwin, Clarence and
Omar Lenning.
Frank E. Whetstone
Frank E. Whetstone, 72, of Britt, Iowa, died
Friday, Feb. 14, 1997 in Britt. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 17 at
Cataldo Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Henderson officiating. Burial was in
Evergreen Cemetery with a flag presentation ceremony by the Britt Veterans
Ceremonial Unit.
Frank Eugene Whetstone was born Dec. 15,1924 at Pattonsburg, Mo., the son of Roy
Elsey and Anna Elizabeth (Willis) Whetstone. After graduating from high school
in Civil Bend, Mo., in 1942, he worked for TWA in Kansas City, Mo., and then
enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class
in
New Caledonia, from August of 1943- July of 1945 and in Shoemaker, Calif. until
July of 1946. Due to a service related injury, he was in a U.S. Hospital in
Excelsior Springs, Mo. for 18 months.
After the service he worked for Carl Shaw in a gas station in Pattonsburg, Mo.
On April 26, 1950 he married his pen pal, Betty May Jergensen, at her parents’
home in Britt. They lived in Pattonsburg for three months and then moved to
Britt where he worked part-time for his father-in-law. In January of 1952, he
became parts manager for Matt Harbacheck Implement, which later
became Majon Motors. In 1967, he joined the Britt Police Force for one year and
then worked for Pritchard Auto Co. as parts man.
Frank graduated in 1969 from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. In 1970, he was
appointed by Mayor Ray Baker as Chief of Police for the City of Britt; a
position he held until he retired
in January of 1986. His hobbies included making 1,400 doll chairs and beds,
which he gave to children, and over 3,000 license plates. He enjoyed his family,
daily cribbage games, Bingo and walking his dog, Ben.
He was a member of the Britt Congregational United Church of
Christ where he had served on the board, Britt American Legion Post #315,
honorary member of the Britt Fire Department for his work in getting the “Jaws
of Life,” served on the Britt City Council and was a former member of the
Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Betty May Whetstone of Britt; two
daughters, Robin Francis Bowcock and her husband, Ted, Clear Lake, Iowa and
Roberta Hope Champney and her husband, Guy, of Forest City, Iowa; two grandsons,
Cory Adam Champney and
Clinton Frank Champney; a sister, Mary Stembridge of Atlanta, Ga.; three
brothers, Roy Whetstone, Jr. of Ames, Iowa, Harold Whetstone of Ames and John
Whetstone of Lakewood, Calif.;
three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elsie Ketchum and Frances
Musick; and two brothers, Harolow Whetstone, in infancy, and Clinton Whetstone.
Music was provided by Beverly Cataldo.
Honorary pallbearers were Cory Charnpney, Clinton Champney, Brandon Douglas and
Jason Douglas.
Pallbearers were Ted Bowcock, Guy Champney, Dale Douglas, Steve Redig, Leroy
Staizer and Jerry Whetstone.
Reva Merle Myers
Reva Merle Myers, 87, of Clear Lake, Iowa,
died Friday, Feb. 7, 1997 at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East in Mason
City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis of the United Methodist Church in
Clear Lake officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy. 18, Mason
City.
The family of Reva Merle Myers has requested that memorial contributions be made
in her memory.
Reva Merle Myers was born on Feb. 27, 1909 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of
Dennis and Lula (Elston) Roderick. She attended and received l elementary
education at the Seventh Day Adventist grade school in Mason City, and attended
and received her high school education at the Seventh Day Adventist Academy High
School in Nevada, Iowa.
On Aug. 25, 1930 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Myers in Cob, Iowa. He
preceded her in death on June 20, 1976. After their marriage they moved to rural
Mason City and farmed on the McNider farms. They farmed there for several years,
then moved south of Mason City, whei they continued to rent farmland from the
McNider’s until 1953. The couple then moved to a farm southeast of Clear Lake
until 1966, when they moved into Clear Lake. Reva worked at the Mile Post Truck
Stop for several years until her retirement when she moved to the Lakeland
Apartments in Clear Lake. She had been a resident of the Oakwood Care Center in
Clear Lake since 1993.
She. enjoyed crocheting and the outdoors, but her great love and enjoyment was
helping her husband on the farm.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie “Ainundson” Evenson of Clear Lake; one
son, Gordon Myers and his wife, Sharon, of Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Steve
Myers and his wife, Lori, of Clear Lake, Becky hizek and her husband, Paul, of
Clear Lake, Dr. Dennis Amundson and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Amundson, San Diego,
Calif., Donna Amundson of Fond du Lac, Wis., Jay Amundson and his wife, Linda,
of Clear Lake, and JoDee Cooling, Fond du Lac; 17 great- grandchildren; two
sisters, Lucille Gammon, Oxnard, Calif., and Winona Nielson and her husband,
Jim, of Benson, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Peg Wilkes and her husband, Toni, Sun
City, Ariz.; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Edwin Roderick;
and two sons-in-law, Donald Amundson and Richard Evenson.
Soloist Marilyn Sadler was accompanied by organist Mary Jane Reynolds.

James William Seim
James William Seim, 73, of Clear Lake, Iowa,
died Thursday, Feb. 6, 1997 at the Green Hills Health Care Center, Ames, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 10 at Bethesda Lutheran
Church, Ames,. with the Rev. Christa Von Zychlin of Bethesda Lutheran Church.
Burial was at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
James was born on June 24, 1923 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Lawrence Helgo and
Florence (Nelson) Seim. He served in the military services from 1943-1945. He
served as Corporal in the U.S. Army, serving duty in Italy, Germany, Africa and
Austria during World War IL He earned the Good Conduct Medal, World War II
Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze
Battle Stars.
On March 11, 1949 he married Helen Iverson at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in
Decorah, Iowa.
He lived in Ames for 30 years. Prior to Ames, James taught high school in
LuVerne, Iowa, was junior high principal in Traer, Iowa and superintendent of
schools in Ridgeway, Iowa. In Ames he was employed by the Ames Community School
District as elementary principal, director of elementary education and special
education. The last few years were spent as director of special services and
assistant to the superintendent.
James loved boating, woodworking, reading newspapers cover to cover and his
family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Ames; two daughters, Becky and Jerry
Timmons, Omaha, Neb.; Janet and David Bunker, Ames; five grandchildren, Cassi,
Jodi and Jacki Timmons, Matthew and Erik Bunker; one sister, Frances Headington,
Decorah three brothers Bob Seim, Lester and Frances Seim, Larry and Arlyne Seim,
all of Decorah
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lucille Ramus, LuVerne,
Helen Finholt, Decorah, and Ruth Aakre, Decorah; and one brother, Charles Seim,
Decorah.
Robert E. (Bob) Sheldon
Robert E. (Bob) Sheldon, 70, of Clear Lake,
Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997 at his home. Funeral services were held
Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Kathy Graves, Chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa officiating.
Burial will take place at Clear Lake Cemetery. The family suggests
memorials in his name.
Bob was born April 8, 1926 at Estherville, Iowa the son of Leslie and Ethel
(Brown) Sheldon. He was united in marriage to Janice Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Janice, of Clear Lake; six children, Nancy Schneider
and her husband, Charles, of North Bend, Wash., Steve Sheldon of Bison, S.D.,
Connie Klein and her husband, Butch, of Aberdeen, S.D., Gene Sheldon and his
wife, Vicki, Kent, Wash., Barbara Lowman of Clear Lake, and Curtis Kenney of
Utah; two brothers, Wayne Sheldon and his wife, Darlene of Sheridan, Iowa and
Vernon Sheldon and his wife, Clayta, LeMars, Iowa; one sister, Betty Koop, of
Prairie City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, LeAnn Sheldon.
Organist Pat Treloar accompanied soloist Lori Leimbacher.
Honorary pallbearers were all of his grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Butch Klein, Curtis Keeney, Steve Klein, Chad Leimbacher, Allen
Harmon, Ty Enderson.
Mr. Grant Leslie Imlay
Mr. Grant Leslie Imlay, 84, of Clear Lake,
Iowa died Friday, Jan. 31, 1997 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at Zion
Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Cremation
will follow the service and inurnment will take place at a later date in
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. The family suggests
memorials to the Grant L. Imlay memorial fund. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,
Clear Lake, is in charge of services.
Grant was born Aug. 27, 1912 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Joseph Leon and Ida
Louise (Helgeland) Imlay.
Grant started working for Armour and Co. in 1931 and retired Jan. 1, 1975. He
married Lily Margaret Andersen July 9, 1933 in Mason City. They moved to Clear
Lake in 1965. He enjoyed the Vikings, traveling, and most of all his Chicago
Cubs. Grant was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Lily Imlay, Clear Lake; one son, Robert
Imlay and his wife, Muriel, Clear Lake; two daughters, Sharon Kay Samson,
Chatsworth, Calif., and JoDee Calla Wilfong and her husband Robert, Melbourne
Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Doris Noland, Chicago, Ill., and Vivian Powers,
Westminister, Calif.; six
grandchildren, Mary Imlay, Clear Lake, Blake Wilfong, Tampa, Fla., Dr. Adam
Wilfong and his wife, Michelle, Boca Raton, Fla., Zoe Wilfong, Rapid City, S.D.,
