Paul L. Strickfaden
Mr. Paul L. Strickfaden, 80, of Clear
Lake, died Friday,
May 26, 1995, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 1, at the
United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred
Lewis officiating. Interment was in
the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge. A Masonic
service was held Wednesday at the funeral home. The
family suggests memorials to the Paul L. Strickfaden
Memorial Fund.
Paul was born Jan. 1, 1915, in Otterville, Mo., the son
of
Albert Strickfaden and Daisy Ella Strickfaden (nee)
Laws.
He graduated from Otterville High School and Central
Missouri State University in 1937 with a degree in
education.

He married Velma Stair on Aug. 21, 1938, in East Lynne,
Mo.
Paul obtained his Master's Degree in education from the
University of Iowa in 1947. He had been involved in
education for over 30 years and has
served as
superintendent in many different
schools in Iowa.
After retiring from education he moved
to Clear Lake, in 1974. In the summertime he worked for
Square Deal Insurance
as a fieldman. He worked full time for
the company from 1972-1980. He enjoyed gardening,
canning and woodworking. He made bedroom sets,
end tables and other furniture which his family has
enjoyed. He also enjoyed working with leather, polishing
rocks (lapidary), playing bridge, fishing and
hunting.
Paul and Velma loved to travel and spent the last 14
winters
in Mission, Texas. He was a member of
the Clear Lake United
Methodist Church, Clear Lake; Order of Eastern Star,
Past Patron; and Verity Masonic Lodge, Clear Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Strickfaden, Clear
Lake;
two daughters, Sandra Gaertner, White Bear Lake, Minn.,
and Donna Whittington and her husband,
Jim, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; three grandchildren,
Rebecca Rudman, Iowa
City, Iowa, Barry Rudman and his wife,
Donara, Woodbury,
Minn., and James Whittington, Inver
Grove Heights; three
great-grandchildren, Abigail Reisner,
Trevor Reisner, both of Iowury, Minn., and James
Whittington, Inver Grove Heights; three
great-grandchildren, Abigail Reisner, Trevor Reisner,
both of Iowa City, Iowa, and Quincy
Rudman, Woodbury, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother,
Monroe Strickfaden; an infant son, Thomas Strickfaden;
one
sister, Beartha Weamer; and one son-in-law, Joseph
Gaertner.
Organist Mary Jane Reynolds accompanied soloist Marilyn
Sadler.
Pallbearers were Robert Rudman, Barry Rudman, Keith
Reason,
Dr. M.L. Knutson, Amil Herker Jr., Orvil Templeton.
Elsie L. Juhl
Elsie L. Juhl, 86, of Clear Lake, died
Wednesday, May 31,
1995, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear
Lake. Funeral
services were held Saturday, June 3,
at Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Jonathan Swenson
officiating. Burial was in Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason
City, Iowa. The family suggests
memorials to the Fertile
Senior Citizens Center.
Elsie was born July 30, 1908, in rural Clear Lake, the
daughter of Effie Bamlet and Charles
Nathan Humphrey.
On Jan. 2, 1929 she married Albert Juhl. The couple
farmed in the Fertile and Clear Lake
area until Albert's
death in 1964. She moved to her Main
Avenue address
and resided there until ill
health prompted her move to
Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake
on June 2, 1994.
She was active in her church and assisted in folding
"The Shepherd" bulletin for many years. She also worked
with
ladies from the church to make quilts
and was a member of
Zion Lutheran Church's Young at Hearts
group.
Elsie was very instrumental in
helping the organization of the Clear Lake Senior
Citizens Center and worked toward
obtaining the group's present
building.
She was honored as Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year
in
Cerro Gordo County. Her favorite pastime was
crocheting,
including crocheting pillows and potholders for
friends. She
also loved to cook and share her cooking with others.
Elsie
was especially known for her cinnamon rolls. Previously
she was a cook at Ritter Nursing and
P.M. Park.
Elsie was also a member of AmVet's Auxiliary #135,
Clear Lake.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Haugen and her
husband, Ronald, Clear Lake; a son, Delbert Juhl and his
wife, Viola, Clear Lake; a sister,
Murle Tice of Omaha, Neb.;
a brother, Floyd Humphrey of Charles
City, Iowa;
two sisters-in-law, Lois Humphrey,
Clear Lake, and Myrtle Humphrey, Duluth, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Randall Lemke, Craig Lemke, Douglas
Schroeder, Kimberly Schroeder, Vickie Boehnke, Jeffrey
Schroeder, Arlene Juhl and Candy Tibbits; 16
great-grandchildren, Molly Lemke, Bonny Lemke, Penny
Lemke,
Andy Lemke, Katie Lemke, Jarod Lemke,
Cory Lemke, Trisha Schroeder, Stacy Schroeder, Jessica

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an
infant daughter; two brothers, Lloyd
Humphrey and Lynn Humphrey; two sisters, Alice Shaner
and Leona Zobel;
a son-in-law, Kenneth Lemke; and one

Helen E. Wistey
Helen E. Wistey, 91, died Monday, June 5,
1995, at the
Livingston Health and Rehab Center of natural causes.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 8, at the
Franzen-Davis-Bebee Chapel, with the Rev. Harlan Durgan,
minister of the Livingston Congregational Church
officiating.
Cremation followed the service and burial of her remains
will
be in Clear Lake.
Helen was born Sept. 22, 1903, at Clear Lake, the
daughter
of Chris Hansen and Christine (nee)
Johannessen Hansen.
She graduated from high school in Clear Lake and
from Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa.
After working for a brief time at the
state legislature in Des Moines, she returned to Clear
Lake
and worked as a secretary for attorney, E.B. Stillman,
the
Imperial Seed Company, Stuart Realty and the United Home
Bank
in Mason City. Her secretarial skills were superlative
and
she could type 120 words a minute without errors. She
was
also a baker, which she learned from her mother, who had
been chef to one of Denmark's
kings.
In 1939 she married Almer Lloyd Wistey. She made her
home in Clear Lake until moving to
Livingston in 1983 to
be closer to her son and his
family.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in
Clear Lake and a friend of the
Congregational Church of Livingston and its pastor.
She is survived by a son, David and his wife, Chris
Wistey;
and three grandsons, Mark, Chad and Eric Wistey, all of
Livingston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one
brother,
Axel.
LaVonne Ione Carr
LaVonne Ione Carr, 68, died Friday, June
2, at
Iowa Methodist Medical Center of injuries sustained in
an
automobile accident.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 6, at
Hamilton's
Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Burial was
at
Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Carr was born
Dec. 30, 1926 in Clear Lake, the daughter of
Frank and Myrtle (Hyde) Kluseman.
As a result of the early death of her mother in 1928,
she
made her home with her grandmother
Kluseman in Ventura, where she received her education.
She had lived in
Des Moines since 1955.
LaVonne was a homemaker and had worked at Truly Tall
Fashions.
She is survived by two sons, Richard, Ankeny, and Dennis
of
Dexter; three sisters, Arlene Morlan of Springfield,
Mo.,
Charlotte Saligar of Folsum, Calif., and Sandra Hamlin
of
Huntington Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Norma Jene Garrison
Mrs. Norma Jene Garrison, 71, of Clear
Lake, died Thursday,
June 8, 1995, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit,
Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 11, at
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the
Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Interment was in
the
Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. The family suggests
memorials
to the Jene Garrison Memorial Fund.
Jene was born Jan. 18, 1924, in Beatrice, Neb., the
daughter
of Albert Laurence Chamberlain and Flossie Elizabeth
(nee) Coyle.
She graduated from Beatrice High School.
On Sept. 6, 1945, she married D.V. "Duffy" Garrison in
Pasadena,
Calif. They moved to Clear Lake, in November of 1945.
Jene worked
for Ray Pauley in Mason City for 12 years as a
secretary.
Jene enjoyed bowling, fishing, music, sewing, traveling
and
being with people. She was a member of Bethlehem
Lutheran Church,
Mason City.
She is survived by her husband, D.V. "Duffy" Garrison,
Clear Lake;
two sisters, Cordys Rolfe and her husband, Robert E.,
Kernville,
Calif., and Dorothy Graves and her husband, Jerry,
Daurte,
Calif.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one infant
brother.
Organist Sharon Djuren accompanied soloist Dorothy Kahl.
Pallbearers were James Roseland, Steve Garrison, Tim
Garrison, Dan Djuren, Randy Garrison,

Douglas Reeve Eldridge
Douglas Reeve Eldridge, 45, son of Reeve
and Maxine Eldridge,
rural Clear Lake, died in a two vehicle accident at
Manning,
S. Car., June 9, 1995. Funeral arrangements are

the Larson home place in Ellington
Township. Agnes
worked as a cook for the Concord Care
Center for 20 years. Following her husband's death on
April 24, 1989,
she continued to live on the home place until moving
to Concord Care Centllington Prairie
Cemetery, rural Garner.
Agnes Kathryn Larson was born Aug. 25, 1910, on a
farm in Ellington Township, the
daughter of Peter Johnson
and Julia Johnson (nee) Halverson.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Ellington Lutheran
Church and attended
Ellinger in February of 1995.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she
was active in the Church Circle and the Ladies Aid. She
was also involved in TOPS and the Birthday Club.
Agnes loved to cook and spend time with her family.
She also
enjoyed embroidering and crocheting.
She is survived by a son, Richard D. Larson and his
wife, Deloris, Garner; a daughter, Marlys Ennis and her
husband, Richard, Mason City; a daughter-in-law, Merry
Stroud,

Violet L. Rasmusson (nee) Hoff
Violet L. Rasmusson, 65, of Clear
Lake, died Friday,
June 23, 1995, at Oakwood Care Center,
Clear Lake.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 30, at
Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason
City, with Rev. Dean Hess, of Zion Lutheran Church,
Clear Lake, officiating.
Violet donated her body to the University of Iowa to
further medical science. No visitation
will be held. Interment
will be in Memorial Park Cemetery,
Mason City, at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Violet Rasmusson
Memorial Fund.
Violet was born Nov. 7, 1929, at Mason City, the
daughter of
George Hoff and Mabel (nee) Slattum Hoff. She attended
Mason City schools, and was a graduate
of Mason City High School.
Violet was an excellent cook. She worked at the
Coffee Cup Cafe,
Black and White Cafe, Schwann's Ice Cream Shop, and for
several years
she cooked at the former Buehler's Cafe, all of Mason
City. Later she
was a cook at the Country Kitchen in Mason City,
retiring in 1982, for health reasons.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, completing crossword
puzzles, and listening to KGLO radio. Violet was a
member of the
Moose, Mason City and PTA at the
former Lincoln School, Mason City, having served as its
president.
She is survived by four daughters, Penny Allen and
her husband, James, Des Moines, Wendy Anderson and her
husband, Ross, Oxford Mills, Ontario,
Canada, Susan
Nickerson and her husband, Allen,
Clear Lake, Kimberly Tapp
and her husband, Dave, Mason City; one
son, Mark
Rasmusson, Mason City; four
grandchildren, Stacy Allen

Robert Wayne Olinger
June 21, 1995, at the North Iowa Mercy
Health Center East Campus,
Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 27, at the
United Robert Wayne Olinger, 54, of Mason City, Iowa,
died Wednesday,
Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis
officiating. Following services he was cremated and
inurnment will take place at a later time in Clear Lake
Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the

memorial fund.
Robert was born Jan. 19, 1941, in Mt. Vernon
Township, Rural
Route Clear Lake, the son of Kenneth Olinger and Ruth
Blickenderfer Olinger. Robert attended Mt. Vernon #2
Country School, Swaledale High School and then graduated
from
Clear Lake High School in 1960. Robert
attended Oklahoma
State Tech. College, Okmulgee, Okla.,
where he
obtained a degree in drafting. He worked for Wallace
Holland Kastler Schmitz and Co. in Mason City, Iowa, for
over
35 years.
On Nov. 14, 1970, he married Judy McMurray in
Swaledale, Iowa. Robert enjoyed riding the tractor,
being in the country, fishing, playing cards, taking his
grandson and feeding
the ducks. He really enjoyed watching
his children play
in sports.
Robert was a member of the Clear Lake United
Methodist Church, National Hemophilic Foundation Midwest
Chapter.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Olinger, Mason City;
two children, Carrie Olinger and Robert Olinger, both of
Mason City; a grandson, Anthony Mathew
Johnson, Mason City; his father Kenneth Olinger,
Meservey, Iowa; a step-mother, Janice Olinger, Meservey;
two brothers, Ellery Olinger
and his wife, Carolyn, Clear Lake, and
William Olinger
and his wife, Sharren, Mason City; several aunts and
uncles.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1989; and
grandparents.
Arthur Dorance Bussa
Mr. Arthur Dorance Bussa, 85, of Clear
Lake, died Saturday, June 24, 1995, at North Iowa Mercy
Health Center East
Campus, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), June
28,
at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating.
Interment will be in
the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.
Art was born Oct. 16, 1909 in Calhoun County, Lake
City, Iowa, the son of Fred Bussa and Charlotte (nee)
Rushton Bussa.
He attended rural schools in Cerro Gordo County. He
worked for
many farmers before coming to Clear Lake.
On Nov. 24, 1943 he married Elsie Miller south of
Clear Lake at the brides home. He worked in Robert
Nichols gas station,
then at Larry Deyo station. Later he
worked for Ted Sauke Hardware and then the City of Clear
Lake in the street and cemetery departments for over 12
years retiring in 1972.
Art was a square dance caller at the Surf on Friday
nights for 12 years. He loved to
collect little nick nacks
and old farm pictures. Art was a
member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear
Lake, I.O.O.F. Lodge, Clear Lake,
and the Clear Lake Fishing Club.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Bussa, Clear Lake;
one sister, Mrs. Doris Barlow, Clear Lake; one brother,
Everett
Bussa and his wife, Margaret, Melrose
Park, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two
brothers,
Walter Bussa and Herbert Bussa; two
infant sisters, Fern and Irene Bussa; and one
step-sister, Leta Johnson.
