Florence Mae Heifner
Florence Mae Heifner, 83, Clear
Lake, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1994, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Center, Mason City, Iowa, following a one year illness with cancer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 3, at the United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial was
in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
The family suggests memorials to the Florence Heifner Memorial Fund.
Florence was born Feb. 20, 1911, in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Marcus
Bacon and Myrtie Wilson Bacon, and attended schools at Iowa Falls and
Titonka Consolidated Schools, graduating in 1929.
She was united in marriage to Clair Heifner on April 16, 1934, in Des
Moines, Iowa. They farmed in the Titonka and Clear Lake areas until
moving to Clear Lake in 1945.
Florence was a member of the Methodist Church, Miriam Circle, Tina
Rebekah Lodge, volunteered at Handicap Village and Retired Senior
Citizen Program. She enjoyed flower gardening, knitting, crocheting,
camping, fishing, and her family. One of her greatest loves was making
beautiful gifts for her family.
She is survived by her husband, Clair Heifner; three daughter, Ina Lee
and her husband, Alan, Madison, Wis., Judith Heifner, Morris, Ill.,
and Beth Fink and her husband, Jeffrey Abel, Hampton, Iowa; seven
grandchildren, Lynell Gile, Bradley Abel and his wife, Susan, Kristy
Abbas and her husband, Matt, Jolie Fink, Jason Fink; eight
great-grandchildren, Timothy and Amanda Gile, Stephanie, Andrew,
Elizabeth and Peter Plagenz, Jordan and Nicholas Abel; three sisters,
Mrs. Dorothy Smith and her husband, Clarence, Iowa Falls, Iowa,
Rosemary Isebrand and her husband, Merle, Okeechobee, Fla., Shirley
Neel and her husband, Clyde, Clear Lae; one brother, Vern Bacon and
his wife, Anna Grace, Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death byer parents; two brothers, Donald and
Lewis; and one great-granddaughter.
Organist Mary Jane Reynolds accompanied soloist Marilyn Sadler.
Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Best, Robert Tibbets, Robert Friest,
James P. Hansen, David Smith, Pastor Michael Plke; one brother, Vern
Bacon and his wife, Anna Grace, Clear Lake; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by ....
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Clair Abel, Bradley Ross Abel, Jason Richard
Fink, Matthew Lyn Abbas, Marcus L. Bacon, David Scott Neel.
Suzanne Stuart Dunbar
Mrs. Suzanne Stuart Dunbar, 48, of Loveland, Ohio, formerly of Clear
Lake, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1994, at the M.D. Anderson Cancer
Center Lutheran Hospital, Houston, Texas.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Charles Williams
officiating. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 9 at the Presbyterian
Church in Loveland, Ohio.
The family suggests memorials be given to the American Heart
Association.
Suzanne was born Jan. 1, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of
Robert C. Stuart and Doris P. Stuart. She graduated from Clear Lake
High School in 1964 and attended Iowa State University where she met
and married Lawrence W. Dunbar Oct. 29, 1965. Together they had three
children.
She was a devoted wife and mother who had a special place in her heart
for her grandchild. She was a positive, energetic and enthusiastic
supporter of the many community and school affairs.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence Dunbar, Loveland, Ohio; one
son, Sean Dunbar, Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Heather Shumaker and
her husband, Sean, Evansville, Ind., and Holly Harris and her husband,
Lt. David Harris, U.S. Army, Germany; one grandson, Cristofer
Shumaker, Evansville, Ind.; her mother, Doris P. Stuart, Clear Lake;
one brother, Jim and his wife, Brenda Stuart, Clear Lake; several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert C. Stuart; one sister,
Sharon Stuart Larson; and one infant brother, William Stuart.
Pallbearers were Sean Shumaker, Lt. David Harris, Haldon Larson,
Robert Niermeyer, Thomas Dunbar, Donald Dunbar.

Willard Holmes Fessenden
Willard Holmes Fessenden, 66, of Hayward, Calif., formerly
of Kanawha and Mason City, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 5, 1994,
at his home.
Per his wishes, no services were held.
Willard Fessenden was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Mason City,
the son of Edward and Ruth Fessenden.
He was owner of the Kanawha Reporter at one time in
Kanawha, and worked for the Oakland Tribune, Oakland, Calif.,
until he retired.
Survivors include two daughters, Deloris Strong of South
San Francisco, Calif., and Katherine vanEe of Forestville, Calif.;
two step-daughters, Sally Gibson of Daly City, Calif., and
Phyllis Lander of Nipomo, Calif.; one son, Merlin Fessenden of Santa
Rosa, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Edward Walton, Kelly Walton,
Leah Schianterelli, Michael van Ee, Robert van Ee, Shannon van
Ee, Robert van Ee, Shannon van Ee and Jessica van Ee; two
great-grandchildren, Ashley Schiantarelli and Vincent Schiantarelli;
one sister, (Mrs. Gordon) Corinne Brierly of Nora Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and
Ruth Fessenden; and an infant son.

Dean
A. Mostrom
Dean A. Mostrom, 63, of Mason
City, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 12, 1994, at his home.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 16, at Zion Lutheran Church,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial was at the Elk
Creek Cemetery, rural Kensett, Iowa.
The family suggests memorials in his name.
Dean was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Hanlontown, Iowa, the son of Elmer
Mostrom and Myrtle Anderson Mostrom. He graduated from Kensett High
School in 1948. He was employed by J&L Tire Co. in Mason City prior to
serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.
On April 13, 1953 he married Donna Olsen in Northwood, Iowa.
He returned from the service and worked for Pritchard Motors in Mason
City. In 1962, he opened his own business, Mostrom Motors in Mason
City. He semi-retired in 1993, continuing as a buyer for Community
Motors, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Skarlis Olds Honda, Mason City.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Mason City; four children, Daryl
Mostrom, Pamela Smith, Linda Mostrom and Douglas Mostrom, all of Clear
Lake; a sister, Mrs. Marcile Skram and her husband, Arthur of Mason
City; a brother Duane Mostrom and his wife, Ardella of Story City,
Iowa; two grandchildren, Ryan Smith and Nicholas Dean Mostrom, both of
Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Mostrom.
Honorary pallbearers were Sam Gelt, Vern Laures, Tim Behm, Jim Arnold,
Jerry Aman, Jim Skarlis, Bob Ethom, Larry Schaer.
Pallbearers were Ryan Smith, Carlin Hare held Friday, Sept. 16, at the
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Rev. Larry Squier
officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Military honors
were provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Post No. 4868.
Garfield E. Bieber
Garfield E. Bieber, 63, of
Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept. 12, 1994, at the Veterans Hospital in
Minneapolis, Minn.
Garfield was born on Dec. 31, 1930, in Clear Lake, the son of Phillip
and Eva (Barlow) Bieber. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in
1948 and from Mason City Junior College in 1950. He attended Coe
College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
He married Darlene Dobbs on June 2, 1951, in Biloxi, Miss.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene, Clear Lake; six children, Doug
Bieber, John Bieber and Pam Bieber, ... her husband, Richard Menges,
Mason City, Iowa; two brothers, Dr. Rae Bieber and his wife Connie
Bieber of Clear Lake and Phillip and his wife Gayle Beiber of Ventura;
five sisters, Mrs. Marion Han ... Dustin Bieber, Drew Bieber, Sheila
Guzman, Jesse Tamez and Lori Ann Bieber; and one great-grandchild,
Joseph Guzman.
Wand Steve and his wife Collette Bieber, all of Clear Lake, Craig and
his wife, Lorraine Bieber, Fort Collins, Colo., and Debbie and her
husband, Richard Menges, Mason City, Iowa; two brothers, Dr. Rae and
his wife C of Ventura; five sisters, Mrs. Marion ...
Memorial services were held Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jana Swenson officiating.
Inurnment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, Iowa, where graveside
services were held. The Rev. James Mattson officiated.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth Bieber
and Donald Kunnert.
Pallbearers were Dr. Tom Bieber, Phillip Bieber, Tom Hollatz, Jack
Prestholt, Rich Menges, Rich Walls.

Mary Martha Markworth
Mary Martha Markworth, formerly
of Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept. 12, 1994 [?] , at Heritage Nursing
Home in Mason City.
Mary Martha Markworth was born Dec. 19, 1903, in ... Norka Sarotor,[??]
Germany. She came to America with her family as a child. Her family
settled and farmed in Harrington, Kan. They moved to the Britt, Iowa
area in 1911 where they continued farming.
She was united in marriage to Herman Markworth on May 5, 1924 in Fort
Dodge, Iowa. The couple raised a family and farmed for many years near
Britt. They moved to Clear Lake in 1944.
Mary was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She was a
member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, for the past 50 years. She
was a charter member of the Clear Lake V.F.W.
She is survived by daughters, Ida Louise Hanna and her husband, Don,
of Minneapolis, Minn., Betty Lou Hanson of Orlando, Fla., and Goldie
Erickson and her husband, Roger, Estes Park, Colo.; two brothers,
Conrad Schlenger, Bemidji, and Louis Schleuger, Britt, Iowa; six
grandchildren, David Erickson, Mark Erickson, Doug Hanna, Nancy Nnsen
and her husband, Carl, Mrs. Millie McNally, Mrs. Jean Hugh and Mrs.
Josie Peterson and her husband Pete, all of Clear Lake, and Mrs.
Evelyn Johnson and her husband, Rudy of International Falls, Minn.;
seven grandchildren, Phillip Bieber, Angela Bieberickson, Doug Hanna,
Nancy Nafziger, Laurie Hanson and Linda Sonenstahl.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; three children; a
