Margaret M. Wreghitt

Mrs. Margaret M. Wreghitt, 87, formerly of Fertile, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 30 at Church of Christ, Fertile, Iowa, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale, Iowa. The family suggests memorials to Margaret M. Wreghitt memorial fund.

Margaret was born Feb. 23, 1907, in LaVoss, Mo., the daughter of Clarence Borton and Hattie (nee) Miles Borton. She moved with her parents at the age of four to Clear Lake, where she graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1925.

She married William D. Wreghitt on Feb. 23, 1926 in Garner, Iowa. They farmed in the Clear Lake, Ventura area until 1940. They moved into Ventura and Bill worked at the Clear Lake Bakery until 1957. They returned to farming near Hanlontown, Iowa, until 1962. After Bill's death in 1963 Margaret moved to Fertile. She had been a resident of Heritage Care Center, Mason City, since 1977.

Margaret loved to garden, bake, read, play the piano, crochet and embroider. She was a RSVP in home volunteer, and was a member of Church of Christ, Fertile.

She is survived by four children, Betty Ball, Lincoln, Neb., Lloyd Wreghitt and his wife, Leona, Clear Lake; Nancy Nonweiler and her husband, Dennis, Mason City, and F....

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald W. Coyle

Mr. Donald W. Coyle, 74, of Ventura, Iowa, died Monday, July 25, 1994, at his home in Ventura.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 28, at Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Military honors were by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

The family suggests memorials to Donald W. Coyle Memorial Fund.

Donald Coyle was born March 15, 1920, in Thornton, Iowa, the son of Edward T. and Dulcie (Hartwig) Coyle. Donald graduated from Thornton High School in 1939. He served in the Army during World War II. After the service he moved back to Thornton where he worked in the locker, did carpenter work and farming. Ref: Dulcie (nee) Hartwig

Donald was married Mary Swenson on Jan. 22, 1949, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, in Thornton. They moved to Ventura in 1949 where he purchased the Ventura Locker and operated it until 1972. He started working for the State of Iowa as a meat inspector in 1975 and continued to do so until his retirement in 1985.

He enjoyed his family, friends and working with antiques. He loved to travel, and spent their winters in Mission, Texas. He was a member of Methodist Church, former member of Ventura City Council and was a life member of Clear Lake V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife Mary Coyle, Ventura; two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Buss and her husband, Gerald, Hampton, Iowa; Mrs. Doris Jeffrey, Rockford, Iowa; four brothers, Edward Coyle, and his wife, Gwynn, Ames, Iowa; Charles Coyle and his wife, Col, Blackduck, Minn.; and James Coyle and his wife, Judy, Beaver Dam, Wis.; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Stanley Coyle.


William Roy Crosby

William Roy Crosby, 47, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Aug. 1, at North Iowa Medical Centers east campus.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, at 11:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. The Rev. Dennis Nicholson will officiate. A 2 p.m. graveside service will be held at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa.

Visitation will begin today (Wednesday), Aug. 3, at 3 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials to the William R. Crosby memorial fund.

Bill was born May 18, 1947, in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Jack Crosby and Audrey (nee) Chase Crosby.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Bonnie Jean Brown on Jan. 19, 1968, in Belmond, Iowa. They moved to Clear Lake after their marriage.

Bill loved to camp, travel, fish, spend time with his grandson and his dog. He belonged to National Organization of D.A.V.

He is survived by his son Cary Crosby, Clear Lake; four sisters, Barbara Arthur and her husband, Wayne, Alexander, Iowa, Beverly Nath, Waco, Texas, Bobbi Husske and her husband, Bruce, Garner, Iowa, Kathy Kinseth and her husband, Dean, Longmont, Colo.; one brother James Crosby, Waco, Texas; one grandson Chase Crosby, Northwood, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1992; and one brother, Jack (jr.) Crosby.


Craig E. Vriezelaar

Craig E. Vriezelaar, 41, Conrad, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 1994, at his home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 4, at Conrad United Methodist Church, Conrad, with the Rev. David Crow officiating. Following the service, the body was cremated, and burial will be at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to Craig E. Vriezelaar memorial fund.

Craig Vriezelaar was born Aug. 1, 1953, at Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Gary E. Vriezelaar and Donna (nee) Walraven Vriezelaar. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1972.

He married Elizabeth A. Crane on May 12, 1979, in Pella, Iowa. Craig worked at Best Way Sprayer Company for 17 years prior to his position as manager at Greenbelt Confinement Systems. Due to his health, he was not able to work recently.

He was a member of Conrad United Methodist Church, and served on several church committees.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, Conrad; two daughters, Alissa B. Vriezelaar and Abby A. Vriezelaar, both of Conrad; his parents, Gary and Donna Vriezelaar, Blaine, Minn.; a sister, Cindy D. Richardson, Clear Lake; and a brother, Steven E. Vriezelaar, Milford, Iowa.

Claude Winters

Claude Winters, 87, of Eldora, died Friday, Aug. 5, 1994, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 8, at Creps-Abels Funeral Home, Eldora. Burial was in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Eldora.

Claude Winters was born April 8, 1907, in Yadkinville, N. C., the son of R.C. Winters and Mamie (nee) Reece Winters. He moved to Iowa when he was eight years old. He attended school in Whitten.

On July 29, 1926, he was united in marriage to Neva Vinton in Whitten. They farmed in Hardin County many years and then moved to town and Claude worked for Lovell Oil Company until retirement. They then spent their winters in Harlingen, Texas. They returned to Eldora in 1988 due to ill health.

He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Juhl and her husband, Art, of Clear Lake; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ollie Templeton, Burlington, and Thelma Knott, Eldora; two brothers, Everett Winters, Eldora, and Clyde Winters, Iowa Falls; a special niece, Shirley Ruddick, Marshalltown; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Winters of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Neva Winters, in March 1994; one son, Ron Winters; one grandchild; and four brothers.


Helen Cole Brooks

Helen Cole Brooks, 87, of Clear Lake died Sunday, July 31, 1994, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Murley Severtson officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Helen Cole Brooks Memorial Fund.

Helen Brooks was born July 23, 1907, in Highmore, S. D., the daughter of Ludwig A. Hendricks and Ida (nee) Cole Hendricks. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1925 and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1929. Following her education, she moved to Clear Lake.

On June 14, 1936, she married Gerald Brooks at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She and her husband enjoyed spending their winters in Texas and Florida.

She was employed at the Mason City Globe Gazettes Clear Lake and Mason City offices for 18 years, taking news reports and advertising. She and her husband owned and operated Brooks Grocery in Clear Lake from 1967-1972.

She was an avid golfer and loved to dance, paint and do arts and crafts.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, past president of the Womens Fellowship and a member of the Wa-Tan-Ye Club and D.A.R.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Brooks, Clear Lake; two cousins, Mrs. Charlotte Hammond, Cookville, Tenn., and Mrs. Marjorie Narum, Madison, Wis.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ferne Melcher and Claytus Melcher, Clear Lake; a niece, Linda Schipper, Cedar Falls, Iowa; and a nephew, Mark Melcher, McLean, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bernice A. Lane

Bernice A. Lane, 97, of Clear Lake, died Friday, Aug.
12, 1994, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Charles
L. Williams of the First Congregational Church, officiating.
Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Bernice A. Lane was born Aug. 25, 1897, the daughter
of Grant Dutro and Alice (nee) DeRoo Dutro.  
She married Roy T. Lane on July 18, 1914, in Clear Lake. 
He preceded her in death on June 3, 1936.

Bernice moved from Brooklyn at the age of six to Clear
Lake and she attended Clear Lake schools.  She worked as an operator at the Clear Lake Telephone Company for many years.  She was a cook for several different Clear Lake restaurants.  Bernice was
a former member of the Navy Mothers.

Survivors include two sons, Ranse Lane and his wife,
Katie, Clear Lake, and James Lane and his wife, Jane, Mesa, Ariz.;
11 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
one son, Don Lane; one daughter, Marilyn Drew; three grandsons;
and six sisters.

Pallbearers were Bill Lane, Roland Drew, Royce Ann Monson,
Jim Lane, Leslie Nolte, Jolene Thompson, Jim Drew.


Norman Raine Allison

Norman Raine Allison, 80, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 1994, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka and Msgr. Roger OBrien, of Dubuque, will officiate. Following the services he will be cremated and inurnment will take place in Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date.

A scriptural wake service was held Tuesday, Aug. 23.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Norman Allison Memorial Fund.

Norman Allison was born June 14, 1914, in Hampton, Iowa, the son of George Allison and Anne (nee) Raine Allison. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1932 and from Hamilton Business College in Mason City.

On Aug. 22, 1937, he married Harriet Sheridan at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake. The couple enjoyed spending their winters in Weslaco, Texas.

He was employed by Wagner Motor Co. in Mason City, later known as Pritchard Motor Co. He served in the United State Army during World War II. He returned to Mason City after the service and was co-owner and business manager of Pritchard Motor Co. for 30 years. He became a partner with Bud Davenport and purchased Max Boyd Machine Co. He operated the business for 10 years, retiring in 1979.

He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Norman was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, a 50-year member of the American Legion Post in Clear Lake, Kiwanis and Elks, a past president of Mason City Junior Chamber of Commerce and past vice president for the Iowa Junior Chamber of Commerce. During his service with the Jaycees, he was elected one of the four Iowa vice presidents at the Jaycee State Convention. He had beeen state awards chairman and was active in JCC local and state affairs for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet Allison, Clear Lake; three sons, Anthony Norman Allison and his wife, Mickey, Mason City, Patrick William Allison and his wife, Kathleen of Grimes, Iowa, and Gregory George Allison and his wife, Kaye, Fairfax, Va.; a brother, George Russell Allison and his wife, Cheryle, Hampton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Mike Allison, Sean Allison, Mary Allison, Patrick Allison, Sara Allison, Kimberly Kern and her husband, Craig, Zachary Allison, Lucas Allison, Marcus Allison, Rebekah Allison, Mattie Allison and Elizabeth Allison; one great-grandchild, Gabriel Kern.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marie Faber was the organist, and special music was provided by Mary Stattelman and St. Patrick's Choir.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Allison, Bill Burke, Bud Davenport, Daryl Akers, M. A. Arneson, Keith Collins and Ken McCormick


Arlette (Tiny) Austin

Arlette (Tiny) Austin, 66, of 113 15th St. N., Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 1994 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Homes in Mason City, with the Rev. Murley Severtson, of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Arlette (Tiny) Austin Memorial Fund.

Mrs. Austin was born Nov. 3, 1927, at Ossian, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore Jermeland and Lena (nee) Knutson Jermeland.

Mrs. Austin worked as a nurses aid for Park Hospital, then North Iowa Medical Center for 20 years. She and her husband lived in the mason City-Clear Lake area most of their lives.

She was a loving wife, mother and friend who enjoyed crafts and celebrated her 48th wedding anniversary on Aug. 17.

Survivors include her husband, Donald E. Austin, of Clear Lake; two daughters, Marilyn and her husband Richard Seward of Santee, Calif. and Linda and her husband Denny Ell, of Mason City; one son, Donald Austin Jr. and his wife Loretta Austin of Des Moines,Iowa; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.



Jeanine Ethel Dohrmann Nedved

Jeanine Ethel Dohrmann Nedved, 35, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 1994, at her home in Clear Lake.

Private memorial services were held at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Inurnment was in the Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Iowa. The family suggests memorials to Clear Lake Cub Scouts, Clear Lake Little League, or North Iowa Youth Hockey.

Jeanine was born March 17, 1959 in Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Fred Dohrmann and Lois Freie Dohrmann.

She graduated from Mason City High School, Mason City, Iowa and Apollo Dental College, Phoenix, Ariz. She worked for Dr. Patrick Carney in Clear Lake as a dental assistant.

She was a Den Leader for Den 7 of Clear Lake Cub Scout Pack #103, was a member of Zeta Theta Soriety, and the Christian Science Church.

She is survived by her parents, Fred and Lois Dohrmann; three sons, Matthew, Benjamin and Reid Nedved; her fiance, Mark McLaughlin, all of Clear Lake; one brother, Fred James Dohrmann and his wife, Karen, Mason City, Iowa; two sisters, Joette Dohrmann, West Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Jill Popejoy and her husband, Randy, Phoenix, Ariz; and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Freie, Alexander, Iowa.

 

Kathryn H. Rowson

Kathryn H. Rowson, 81, of Coralville, formerly of Clear Lake, died Aug. 22, 1994, at her sons home following a brief illness.

She was born March 3, 1913 in Mason City, the daughter of Russell Bruce Kennedy and Floy Glacier Kennedy. She grew up and attended schools in Clear lake, graduating from Clear Lake High School and later attended Hamilton Business School. She was a secretary.

Her memberships included the Tina Rebekah Lodge, Navy Mothers, and the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake.

She was married to Deloss L. Rowson in 1938 in Clear Lake. He died in 1988.

They had lived in Clear Lake and upon their retirment, the couple moved to Mountain Home, Ark., and in 1992, Kathryn moved to Coralville.

Graveside services for Kathryn and Deloss Rowson were held Friday, Aug. 26, at the Hampton Cemetery. There was no visitation, their bodies were cremated. The Rev. Charles Williams officiated the service.

Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Johannessen of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Lawrence (Larry) Rowson of Coralville; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a brother, Dr. W.B. Kennedy of Urbandale.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
