Arthur Spangler,
Jr.
September 13, 2007
Arthur Spangler, Jr., 88, of Eagle Grove, passed away on
Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home
in Eagle Grove.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, September 7, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Eagle Grove. Pastors Paul Stone and Chris Lang officiated
at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in the Rose Hill
Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
Arthur Spangler, Jr., was
born on August 31, 1919 in Dayton Township, near Eagle
Grove, the son of Arthur M. and Clara (Tuttle) Spangler. He
was educated in the rural schools of Wright County and
graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1938. He
served in the United States Army during World War II in the
European Theatre, receiving the Bronze Star, Silver Star and
Good Conduct Medals. Art was Honorably Discharged on October
29, 1945, with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On June 2, 1946, Art was
united in marriage to Arlene Egemo at the Evangelical
Lutheran Church Parsonage in Eagle Grove. The couple made
their home in Eagle Grove and celebrated their 60th wedding
anniversary in June of 2006.
Art worked as a mechanic
for John Deere dealerships of S.C. Schrage Implement and
Hanson Implement of Eagle Grove, and F.G. Jones Implement of
Woolstock.
He was a member of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Eagle
Grove. Art loved fishing, working puzzles, flowers, working
in his yard and his daily walks.
Art is survived by three
daughters, Linda VanVleet and husband, John of Orient, Susan
Holst and husband, Ron of Webster City and Tern Jo Meyer and
husband, Larry of Eagle Grove; two granddaughters; two
great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four
brothers, Carroll, Kermit, Jack and Abe, all of Eagle Grove;
four sisters, Ina Mae Skadburg of Eagle Grove, Dorothy Buss
of Mason City, Clarice Carlson of Britt and Emma Jean
Bloxham of Clarion; and several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and wife, Arlene on December 31, 2006.

Fred D. Eudy
September 20, 2007
Fred D. Eudy, 90, formerly
of Goldfield, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2007, at
the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services will be
held on Saturday, September 22, at the Lake Lutheran Church,
rural Goldfield. Pastor Truman Larson will officiate at the
1:00 p.m. service.
Fred D. Eudy, was born on
July 16, 1917 in Ladonia, Texas, the son of Arthur M. and
Emma (Dupree) Eudy.
Fred worked over 50 years
as a carpenter/locksmith for Union #1780 in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
On December 28, 1982, Fred
was united in marriage with Ruth E. (Nelson) Rasmussen in
Lake Mead. Arizona. The couple wintered in Meadview, Pierce
Ferry, Lake Mead and Kingman, Arizona and they also made
their home in rural Goldfield.
In his spare time he
enjoyed fishing and camping.
Survivors include his
wife, Ruth Rasmussen Eudy of Goldfield; three step-sons,
Dennis W. Rasmussen, Bruce Rasmussen and Galen Rasmussen;
six step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.

Alec Michael Lawson
September 20, 2007
Alec Michael Lawson, 19,
of Goldfield, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2007,
at his home.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Eagle Grove. Pastor Stan Peterson of the Samuel
Lutheran Church officiated at the 1:00 p.m. service.
Alec Michael Lawson, was
born on May 16, 1988 in Ames, the son of Theodore H. Lawson
and Susan M. Crandall Elberg. He was raised in Goldfield and
attended the Clarion-Goldfield Schools, graduating from the
Clarion-Goldfield High School in 2007. He was currently a
student at the University of Iowa studying Math and Physics.
Alec was a member of the
Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. He enjoyed music,
playing guitar and skateboarding.
He is survived by his
mother, Susie and step-father, Marty Elberg of Eagle Grove;
father, Ted Lawson of Goldfield; brother, Kaleb Lawson of
Goldfield; step-brother, Taylor Elberg of Eagle Grove;
grandparents, Peggy Parker of Bode and R.J. "Toby" and
Vivian Crandall of Eagle Grove; step-grandparents, Harold
and Jo Elberg of Eagle Grove; and numerous aunts, uncles and
cousins.
He was preceded in death
by his grandfather, Earl Lawson; step-grandfather, Clarence
Parker; and cousin, Gilbert Hirsch.

Marshall Rasmussen
September 20, 2007
Marshall Rasmussen, 93, of
Goldfield, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2007, at the
USA Healthcare Center, Clarion.
Funeral services will be
held on Saturday, September 22 at the Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Eagle Grove. Pastors Paul Stone and Chris Lang will
officiate at the 1:30 p.m. service. Visitation will be at
the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove on Friday, from 5-7:00
p.m. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
Marshall Rasmussen, was
born on February 25, 1914 on the family farm in rural
Goldfield, the son of Metz H. and Marie (Madsen) Rasmussen.
He attended country schools in Liberty Township near
Goldfield and graduated from the Goldfield High School
in 1933.
On May 24, 1941, Marshall
was united in marriage with Helen Schultz at the St. Olaf
Lutheran Church, Bode. The couple made their home in rural
Goldfield where they were engaged in farming. Marshall
retired from farming in 1979.
Marshall was a member of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.
He is survived by six
children, Marvin Rasmussen of Goldfield, Margaret Dill and
husband, Duane of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Larry E.
Rasmussen and wife, Jina of Goldfield, Lowell Rasmussen of
Goldfield, Dennis R. Rasmussen of Goldfield and Brian
Rasmussen and wife, Angela of Savage, Minnesota; 1I
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law,
Donald Schultz and sister-in-law, Shirley Schultz of
Franklin, Virginia.
He was preceded in death
by his parents: wife. Helen on August 2, 2006; two sisters,
Gladys Douglas and Helen Folkedahl; and one brother, Max
Rasmussen.

Julius Milford
"Bus" McAdams
October 4, 2007
Julius Milford "Bus" McAdams, 93, of Dows, passed away on
Sunday, September 23, 2007, at the Hampton Health Care
Center.
Funeral services were held
on Thursday, September 27, at the First Lutheran Church in
Dows. Pastor Robert Edwards officiated at the 10:30 a.m.
service. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows.
Military rites were provided by the Dows American Legion
Post #523.
Bus was born on November
3, 1913, the son of Hilda and Ed Shaffer and was raised in
Franklin County. He was raised by his aunt and uncle,
Josephine and Clyde McAdams and eventually took their name.
During his early teens,
Bus came under the tutelage of V.B. Hamilton, a young county
agent and 4-H Leader who would go on to earn national and
international recognition. Hamilton engendered a lifelong
love of agriculture in Bus. He was proud of his membership
in the Franklin County 4-H, the largest chapter in the
nation with over 400 members. Bus was a member of the
award-winning Franklin County 4-H team who judged cattle,
horses, hogs, and sheep at the State Fair. He visited the
Franklin County Fair this summer, where he met many old
friends and reminisced about his experiences.
He worked for the Byron
Meyer Livestock Company in Dows. He later became partners
with Barney in the business and then owner of the business,
which was renamed McAdams Livestock Company. He was known
for honesty both with farmers and packing plants.
Bus attended Iowa State
for two years and was a diehard Iowa State fan. He also
served in the U.S. Navy during World War 11. He was active
in the community for many years, particularly on Community
Betterment and Corn Days Committees. He was a lifelong
member of the First Lutheran Church in Dows and served as
the first president of the congregation as well as on the
church council and the building committee. He was a charter
member of the Dows Lions Club and celebrated his 50th year
as a Lions Club member in 2001. Bus was a 32nd degree Mason
and a member of the Elks and American Legion. He loved to
fish and hunt.
Bus and Pearl Madison of
Goldfield, were married on October 22, 1937. They celebrated
65 years of marriage together.
He is survived by two
sons, Fred McAdams and wife, Vivian and Nile McAdams and
wife, Tara; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a
brother, Milo Shaffer and wife, Milda; a sister, Maxine
Ahrens and husband, Don; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; and wife, Pearl.

Albert John Wolff
October 4, 2007
Albert John Wolff, 82, of Clarion, passed away on Thursday,
September 27, 2007, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical
Center.
Graveside services were
held on Monday, October 1, at the Evergreen Cemetery in
Clarion. Pastor Bill Kem officiated at the 10:00 a.m.
service. Military rites were provided by the Clarion
American Legion and VFW.
Albert John Wolff, was
born on July 3, 1925 in Fort Dodge, the son of Albert John
Wolff. He grew up in Eagle Grove where he also attended
school.
On November 17, 1944,
Albert enlisted in the Army and served until he was
Honorably discharged on November 18, 1946.
Albert was united in
marriage to Donna Wampler on July 26, 1947 in Fort Dodge.
Albert was a factory worker in Clarion and Webster City. He
was also a member of the Lutheran Church. In his free time
he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers-in-law.
Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In 1989, Albert moved to
the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, where he still
found time to do a little fishing.
Albert is survived by his
wife, Donna of Clarion; one daughter, Dianne Gilliland and
husband, John of Humboldt; two sons, Scott Wolff and wife,
Sandy of Clarion and Kelly Wolff and wife, Jackie of
Goldfield; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Betty Koob of Eagle Grove and June Hunt of Clarion;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a son, Greg; two brothers; two sisters; and
two infant sisters, Dorothy and Ruby Rose.

Lila Jean Carpenter
October 4, 2007
Lila Jean Carpenter, age 70, of Dows, formerly of Inver
Grove Heights, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, September
27, 2007, in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, after
contracting pneumonia.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, October 2, at the Presbyterian Church in Dows.
Rev. Friested and Pastor Stan Watne officiated at the 2:00
p.m. service. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows.
Lila Jean Hines, was born
on October 23, 1936 in Council Bluffs, the daughter of
Francis and Sylvia (Brooks) Hines. As a young child, Lila
moved with her family to Clarion, where she started and
completed her schooling.
On January 23, 1954, Lila
married Wallace Elmer Carpenter at the Church of Christ in
Clarion. They moved to Dows where she raised two children.
She was a lifelong homemaker, devoted wife, and loving
mother and grandmother. Lila had been employed for a time at
the Dows Locker, Dows Care Center, at a motel in Iowa Falls,
and for a seed corn plant in the Blairsburg-Ellsworth area.
Lila was active in the
Presbyterian Church in Dows where she was a Sunday School
teacher, served as an elder, and participated in the women's
organization. She also took a role in the scouting
activities her children were involved in and enjoyed hobbies
like crocheting and gardening.
Lila moved to Inver Grove
Heights after her spinal meningitis prevented her from
getting around her home. At Woodlyn Heights Care Center she
enjoyed all activities, especially crafts and bingo, poetry
and listening to music.
She is survived by her
husband, Wallace of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; two
children, Linda Brunsvold and husband, Mark of Apple Valley,
Minnesota and Mike Carpenter and wife, Dianne of Guthrie
Center; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three
siblings, Raymond Hines and wife, Joy of Corpus Christi,
Texas, Bill Hines and wife, Ann of Clarion and Merlene
Andreasen of Forest City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat
Carpenter of Booneville, Carl Carpenter and wife, Cindy of
Minburn, Karen Gaulke and husband, Lowell of Mt. Pleasant,
Kathy Wearda and husband, Marty of Hampton and Arlis Mapes
and husband, Jerry of Swan.
Lila was preceded in death
by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Burton; one sister,
Marjorie Hulbert; one brother-in-law, Richard Carpenter; and
twin infant grandchildren, Andrew and Sine.

Margaret Meyer
October 4, 2007
Margaret Meyer, 97, of Belmond, passed away on Thursday,
September 27, 2007.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, October 1, at the Calvary Baptist Church,
Belmond. Rev. Gary Schnleder officiated at the 2:00 p.m.
service. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.
Margaret Wagner, was born
on May 16, 1910 in Chancellor, South Dakota, the daughter of
Wilhelm and Ann (Rust) Meyer. When Margaret was five years
of age, in 1915, her family moved to North Dakota to farm
wheat. Her father died in 1919 from influenza. After the
passing of her father, Margaret and her family moved back to
Chancellor, South Dakota. Margaret's mother passed away in
June 1927, before her senior year of high school. Margaret
then moved into the home of Dr. Valkennar. She did
housekeeping chores in exchange for room and board.
After high school
graduation in 1928, Margaret worked different jobs. She did
cooking and cleaning for different families for room and
board. After that, she and a friend worked at a grocery
store, Tjaden, in Davis, South Dakota. This is where she met
her future husband, Theodore Meyer, who was working for an
area farmer, Sill Smith. They were married on April 12, 1930
at the Germantown Presbyterian Parsonage in Chancellor,
South Dakota.
They worked on the Smith farm for one year and then moved to
a farm where they rented land. They only farmed for one year
due to the dry weather. They then moved to Hooker, a small
town where Theodore worked doing odd jobs. They then moved
to Lennox, where Margaret worked for her sister-in-law, Rose
Bunjer while Ted worked for a creamery. In 1936, Margaret
and her children went to Belmond to stay with Martin and
Rose Bunjer while Ted was looking for work elsewhere and
then he went to work for the Thompson Seed Company as a
truck driver. They lived at several different locations in
Belmond.
Margaret and Theodore
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 12, 1980.
Later that year, Theodore passed away. She spent time
crocheting, reading her Bible and other books, and watching
sports on television.
She is survived by eight
children, Alfred Meyer and wife, Maxine of Lake Arthur,
Louisiana, Vernon Meyer and wife, Carolyn of West Lake,
Louisiana, Gary Meyer and wife, Mardell of Belmond, Beverly
Huising and husband, Vernon of Mason City, Roger Meyer and
wife, Linda of Goodell, Richard Meyer and wife, Loree of
Sulphur, Louisiana, Fern Spellmeyer and husband, Mark of
Clarion and Marjorie Pearson and husband, Stan of Waukee; 20
grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sophie Heeren of
Chancellor, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Theodore; four grandchildren;
two brothers, Herbert and John Wagner; two sisters, Minnie
Wheeldreyer and Gertie Otten; three brothers-in-law, Mike
Wheeldreyer, Elzo Otten and Laverne Heeren; and two
sisters-in-law, Hannah Wagner and Johanna Wagner.
