Donald Gene Ford
September 14, 2006
Donald Gene Ford, Sr., 68, of Eagle Grove, passed
away on Friday, September 1, 2006, at the USA Health Care
Center, Clarion.
A memorial service was held on
Tuesday, September 5, at the Holmes Baptist Church. Pastor Pat
Odle officiated at the 1:00 p.m. service. Interment will be held
at a later date in the Graceland Cemetery, Webster City.
Donald Gene Ford, was born on
September 30, 1937 in Lehigh, the son of Perry and Hazel (Farnham)
Ford.
He was raised and educated in
Webster City. He spent most of his adult life working as a
mechanic and trucking. Donald enjoyed working on anything
mechanical and loved to fish.
Donald is survived by his
children, Cindy Garcia of Denver, Colorado, Terri DeLaRosa of
Coos Bay, Oregon, Don Ford of Clarion, Mary Smith of Eugene,
Oregon, Peggy Lane of Cougville, Oregon and Jeff Ford of
Clarion; one sister, Gertrude Wood of Eldora; two brothers,
David Ford of Wheelersburg, Ohio and Thomas Ford of Iowa Falls;
and special friends, Ernie Brown of Eagle Grove and Bob and
Karen Williams of Corwith.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; a daughter, Kathy Lopez; two brothers, Perry Ford
and Robert Ford; and one sister, Martha Elliot.

Richard Charles Stevens
September 14, 2006
Richard Charles Stevens, 79, of Swea City, passed
away on Friday, September 1, 2006, at the St. Mary's Hospital,
Rochester, Minnesota.
A funeral service was held on
Tuesday, September 5, at the First Baptist Church in Swea City.
Pastor Van Davis officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Interment
was held in the Swea Township Cemetery, Swea City.
Richard Charles Stevens, was
born on October 18, 1926 in Clarion, the son of Ray and Esther
(Hokinson) Stevens.
On October 18, 1946, he was
united in marriage to Wilma Dawson in Clarion. Several years
after their marriage, the couple moved to Swea City where
Richard was employed with the DEK Rural Electric Cooperative. From
1952 through 1954, Richard served in the United States Marine
Corps during the Korean Conflict. After his Honorable Discharge
from military service, Richard returned to the Swea City area
where he drove truck for the Swea City Creamery and Farm
Service. Later, he worked for various farmers in the Swea City
and Ledyard areas.
In 1984, the couple moved into
Swea City and Richard starting working for the Farmers Co-op
Elevator and continued to work there until his retirement. After
retiring, Richard continued working part time for farmers in the
area during planting and harvesting. In his leisure time he
enjoyed golfing, electric trains and gardening.
Richard was an active member
of the VFW Post in Swea City. He was also past VFW District
Commander and was very active in the VFW Post 3388 in Estherville
and the Military Order of the Cooties.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma of Swea City; children, Lynn
Stevens and wife, Mary Lou of Olathe, Kansas, Joel Stevens and
wife, Laurie of Swea City and Diann Gayer and husband, David of
Spirit Lake; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
three brothers, Robert Stevens and wife, Joyce of Clarion, Fred
Stevens and wife, Gerri of Ft. Meyers, Florida and Shirley
Stevens and wife, Yvonne of Clarion; and many nieces and
nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Dorothy Lorraine Kreitlow
September 14, 2006
Dorothy Lorraine Kreitlow, 85,
of Clarion, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2006, at the
North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
A funeral service was held on Friday, September 8, at the United
Presbyterian Church, Clarion. Pastor Curt Miner officiated at
the 10:30 a.m. service. Interment will be held at a later date.
Dorothy Lorraine Kreitlow, was born on March 31, 1921 in Clarion,
the daughter of Sidney and Emma (Claude) Wason.
On October 1, 1942, Dorothy was united in marriage to Warren
Kreitlow. The couple settled on a farm near Clarion. In 1966,
they moved to Clarion and spent the rest of their lives and
raised their family. Dorothy worked in the kitchen at the
nursing home and also did some babysitting.
Dorothy enjoyed reading books and playing bingo and cards with
her friends. She also enjoyed doing cross stitch and other
embroidery. She was also an avid Hawkeye fan.
She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, served on
the Friendship Ministry, and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Wayne and special friend, Linda
of Clarion and Bruce and wife, Jennifer of Clarion; two daughters,
Carrie Bisbee and husband, Jim of Readlyn, Iowa and Iris Nickelson
and husband, Ralph of Mauston, Wisconsin; two brothers, Wilbur
Wason and Bill Wason of Clarion; 13 grandchildren; and 24
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Ardath Knutson
September 14, 2006
Ardath Knutson, 75, of Green River, Wyoming, died
on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at the Memorial Hospital, Sweetwater
County, Rock Springs.
A memorial service was held on
Friday, September 8, at the Mansface Terrace Sunshine Room,
Green River. Cremation will take place at the Fox Crematory,
Rock Springs.
Ardath
Martin, was born on October 25, 1930 in Woolstock, the daughter
of Lee and Lulu Slaughter Martin. She attended schools in
Clarion and graduated from the Clarion High School with the
class of 1948. Her interests included cooking, telling jokes and
traveling.
Survivors include one son, Jon
Fletcher of Green River; two daughters, Debra DuRain and
husband, Roy of Green River and Cindy Sue Knutson of Phoenix,
Arizona; two sisters, Esther Heirmer of Algona and June Schumpp
and husband, Walt of Mason City; five grandchildren; and ten
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; three brothers, Leighton, Don and Leo; and one
sister, Violet.

Viola Marie Mosher
September 14, 2006
Viola Marie Mosher, 88, of
Clarion, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2006, at the USA
Health Care Center, Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 13, at the
United Church of Christ Congregational, Clarion. Pastor Curt
Miner officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in
the French Church Cemetery, Woolstock.
Viola Marie Mosher, was born on March 5, 1918 in Woolstock, the
daughter of Henry and Mary (Hanson) Hilpipre. She attended the
Woolstock High School, where she played girls' basketball. She
worked as a telephone operator in Woolstock.
On December 20, 1936, Viola was united in marriage to Gary
Mosher at the Methodist Parsonage in Clarion. The family lived
and farmed near the Clarion, Wall Lake Township and Woolstock
areas, and also lived in Eagle Grove. Viola moved into Clarion
in 1996.
Viola loved being a farm wife and working side by side with her
husband, Gary. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning what she
grew in her garden, playing cards, doing word puzzles and
reading. She loved sports and was a true Hawkeye fan.
Viola was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational
in Clarion, Wall Lake Monday Club and the OTO Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Howieson and husband, Jim of
Clarion; a son, Guy Mosher of Indianola; a daughter-in-law,
Arlene Mosher of Dows; five grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary in
1987; a son, Larry in 1939; a son, Gene in 1996; a daughter,
Eileen Paul in 1998; and a sister, Dorothy Mayes.

Betty Jean Watne
September 21, 2006
Betty Jean Watne, 63, of
Clarion, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2006, at the
Wright Medical Center, Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 18, at the First
Lutheran Church, Clarion at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Gary Boen
conducted the service. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery,
Clarion.
Betty Jean Jorgenson, was born on March 8, 1943, the daughter of
Carroll and Margaret (Edwards) Jorgenson. She was raised and
educated in rural Clarion.
Betty received her formal education in the Clarion High School,
graduating in 1961. After graduation she attended the Des Moines
School of Practical Nursing, graduating in 1962. She worked at
Mercy Hospital for a short time. After that she worked in
Meservey for Dr. G. E. Jorgensen.
On February 12, 1966, Betty was united in marriage to Jon Watne
in Clarion. Betty spent her time raising her children, helping
with the farm, and taking care of her many animals.
Betty was active with many school and community activities. She
enjoyed baking and gardening. After raising her children, she
returned to nursing, working at the Clarion Care Center and
North Central Human Services. Her greatest joy was her eight
grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jon of Clarion;
two sons, Jeff Watne and wife, Jill and Tim Watne, all of
Clarion; one daughter, Cindy Staudt and husband, Morris of
Greene; eight grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jose "Salud"
Martinez-Perez
September 21, 2006
Jose "Salud" Martinez-Perez, 76, of Belmond, died on Thursday,
September 14, 2006, at the Belmond Medical Center.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, September 18, at the Clarion United Methodist Church at
3:00 p.m. The service was conducted by The Rev.
Fernando Romero. Burial was in the Belmond
Cemetery.
Jose "Salud" Martinez-Perez,
was born on March 6, 1930 in Guanajuato, Mexico, the son of
Alfonso Martinez and Josefa Perez. He lived most of his life in
Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico and his last years in Belmond. He
was a farmer for 12 years and also worked as a night security
guard for 20 years. Jose had also worked at Sparboe Farms in
Goodell for two years.
He is survived by his wife,
Celia Martinez of Belmond; children, Maria V Rodriguez of
Belmond, Angel, Eleazar, Aurelio, Manuel of Mexico, Jorge Luis
of Clarion, David of Texas, Juana of Belmond, Josefa Martinez
and Raquel R. Solis of Belmond; 10 grandchildren and 20 more
living in Texas and Mexico; eight great-grandchildren and 25
more living in Texas and Mexico.

Paul Eugene
Sheesley
September 21, 2006
Paul Eugene Sheesley, 92, of Stanhope, died on Thursday,
September 14, 2006, at the Southfield Wellness Community,
Webster City.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, September 18, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural
Boone. The 1:30 p.m. service was conducted by Rev. Bruce Lakamp.
Burial was in the St. Paul's Cemetery, rural Boone.
Paul Eugene Sheesley, was born
on June 30, 1914 in Oskaloosa, the son of Harry and Mary Hasley
Sheesley. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School.
Paul Sheesley and Margaret Rebecca Wade were united in marriage
in Missouri on October 29, 1935. The couple moved to Stanhope in
1936, where he owned and operated the Wade Hatchery for many
years. In the late 1950's, at the same location, he operated a
farm hardware store until his retirement in 1980. For over 50
years, they spent their leisure time at Lake Cornelia.
His passion was gardening and
he enjoyed golfing with his buddies at the Clarmond Country
Club.
Paul was a member of the St.
Paul's Lutheran Church of rural Boone, and for many years was an
active member of the Stanhope Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife,
Margaret; one son, Wade Sheesley and wife, Helen of Stanhope;
one daughter, Linda Jackson and husband, Terry of Clarion; four
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan
McMains of Iowa City; three nephews; and two nieces and their
families.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; and two brothers, Ralph and Max.

Dr. John Patrick Welsh
October 5, 2006
Dr. John Patrick Welsh, 51. of Sierra Vista, Arizona, died on
Sunday, September 24, 2006.
A memorial service was held on
Saturday, September 30, at the Windemere Hotel, Sierra Vista,
Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations
be sent to the charity of their choice.
John Patrick Welsh, was born on
November 13, 1954 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Maurice and
Lois Welsh. He was raised in Northwood and graduated from the
Northwood-Kensett High School in 1973. He was involved in track,
wrestling and cross country. He was a state champion pole vaulter and wrestler.
On March 19. 1976, he and
Carol Ann Stevenson were united in marriage in Osage. Shortly
after they were married they moved to Los Angeles, California,
where John attended the Cleveland Chiropractic College. After
graduation, he opened his first practice in Clarion where he
worked until he relocated to Sierra Vista, Arizona in 1995 and
opened Welsh Chiropractic.
John enjoyed flying and riding
horses with his wife and daughters.
John is survived by his wife,
Carol of Sierra Vista, Arizona; two daughters, Nicole and Roslyn
of Sierra Vista, Arizona; mother, Lois Welsh of Northwood; one
brother, Dr. James Welsh of Northwood; two sisters, Cris Wells
of Peoria, Arizona and Dr. Gayle King of Green Valley. Arizona;
two brothers-in-law, Dr. Laurence Wells and Dr. Robert King; and
five nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father,
Maurice; and aunt, Maxine Philipps.

Mildred Theresa Bradley
November 2, 2006
Mildred Theresa Bradley, 88, of Armstrong, passed away on
Sunday, September 24, 2006, at the Valley Vue Nursing Home,
Armstrong.
A Mass of Christian Burial was
held on Thursday, September 28, at the St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Armstrong at 10:30 a.m.
Mildred Theresa McDermott, was
born on August 13, 1917 in Eagle Grove, the daughter of James
and Elizabeth (Neugirg) McDermott. She graduated from the Eagle
Grove High School in 1935, as valedictorian of her class. She
married Richard Newton Bradley on June 5, 1937.
Mildred was a homemaker and
worked in Gannon's Coffee Shop in Clarion for several years
while raising her family. She also worked for the Colston Drug
Store, was a housekeeper for the priest at St. Mary's Catholic
Church, and did baby-sitting for several children while living
in Armstrong.
She was an avid reader, loved
dogs and playing cards and games with her grandchildren. She was
a member of church circles at St. Joseph's and St. Mary's in
Armstrong. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens and
Ladys' VFS Auxiliary in Armstrong. She worked at Valley Vue Care
Center as an employee and volunteer. She was also a BABES
volunteer through a program at the Armstrong School where she
read to the grade school children.
Mildred is survived by three
daughters, Sharon Henry Stubbs of Coralville, (Mary) Beth
Conklin and husband, Steve of Iowa City and Anne Shoopman and
fiancée, Carl Stocke of Ripon, California; two sons, Michael
Bradley of Campbell, California and Art Bradley and wife, Mary
of Armstrong: a daughter-in-law, Monica Bradley of Tucson,
Arizona; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death
by her parents; eight brothers and sisters; husband, Richard; a
son, Dick Bradley; and one grandson.

Richard M. "Dick" Hoyt
October 5, 2006
Richard M. "Dick" Hoyt, 85, of North Mankato, Minnesota, died on
Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at the Immanuel-St. Joseph's
Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral services were held on
Saturday, September 30, at the Woodland Hills Chapel, Mankato,
Minnesota. Rev. Randy Koppen officiated at the 11:00 a.m.
service. Interment was in the Woodland Hills Memorial Park. In
lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart
Association, Hospice, or to the donor's choice.
Richard M. "Dick" Hoyt, was
born on October 22, 1920 in Clarion, the son of Harold and Mary
(Mechem) Hoyt. He graduated from the Clarion High School in 1937
and entered the U.S. Army in February 1941. He served with the
1st Filipino Infantry in New Guinea and the Philippines in
1944-1945. He was released from active duty in December 1945.
Dick married Marnie Shockley
of Ames at Ft. Ord, California on November 7, 1942. They moved
to Mankato in June of 1953 where he was employed by the Free
Press Commercial Printing Department and later by the Mankato
Corporation.
Dick's hobbies were golf and
growing roses. He and Marnie had been members of the Mankato
Rose Society, the Minnesota Rose Society, and the American Rose
Society. He was a Life Consulting Rosarian in the ARS. They
enjoyed showing roses at rose shows in the North Central
District in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
After retiring in 1986, he
took up golf again after a 30-year layoff. He was a member of
the American Legion Post #11 and a life member of the V.F.W.
Post #950, and World War II Last Man Club.
He is survived by his wife,
Marnie of North Mankato, Minnesota; one daughter, Sandi Smith
and husband, Mike of Milaca, Minnesota; three sons, Steve Hoyt
of Mission Viejo, California, Brian Hoyt and wife, Suzette of
Overland Park, Kansas and Denny Hoyt and wife, Debra of Ames; a
daughter-in-law, Patsy Hoyt; one sister, Frances Reed of
Burlington, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; one son, Michael; and one great-granddaughter.

Marcella Marie Thul
October 5, 2006
Marcella Marie
Thul, 81, of Clarion, passed away on Wednesday, September 27,
2006, at the USA Healthcare Center, Clarion.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, October 2, at the
St John's Catholic Church, Clarion. Fr. Chris Podhajsky
officiated at the 10:30 a.m., service. Burial was in the St
John's Catholic Cemetery, Clarion.
Marcella Marie Thul, was born on April 7, 1925, on a farm near
Duncan, the daughter of James and Louisa (Wellik) Vrba. Marcella
attended school through the eighth grade and later received her
G.E.D.
On February 11, 1946, Marcella was united in marriage to Paul
Leo Thul at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church near Duncan.
Marcella worked at the Pioneer Plant where she detasseled corn
with her daughters, Dodger Enterprises in Eagle Grove, HH&B golf
bag factory, and she cooked at the nursing home and hospital in
Clarion.
Marcella enjoyed dancing, cooking and canning. Above all, she
loved her children and grandchildren, making quilts for each of
them.
She was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church and St.
John's Alter Society.
Marcella is survived by two daughters, Pauline Turner of Clarion
and Nancy Prochaska and husband, Kevin of Kennesaw, Georgia; six
grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Paul.

Roger Allen Nelson
October 5, 2006
Roger Allen
Nelson, 82, of Clarion, passed away on Friday, September 29,
2006, at the Wright Medical Center, Clarion.
A memorial service was held on Monday, October 2, at the United
Church of Christ Congregational in Clarion. Pastor Curt Miner
officiated at the 1:00 p.m. service. Interment was in the
Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Roger Allen Nelson, was born on August 11, 1924 in Eagle Grove,
the son of John and Alma (Thompson) Nelsen. He was raised in
Holmes and graduated from the Clarion High School in 1943. Roger
served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Boyd from February 14,
1944 to April 8, 1946.
On June 1, 1948, he married Doris Swope at the home of her
parents. Doris and Roger resided in the Clarion area throughout
their 58 year marriage. They farmed east of Clarion for 12 years
and Roger later worked for the Iowa State Highway Department. He
retired from the department in 1985.
Roger loved spending time with family, friends and the ever
present family dog, cat, or dog and cat. He loved gardening and
enjoyed the outdoors.
Roger is survived by his wife, Doris of Clarion; one son, Larry
Nelson and wife, Debbie of Clarion; two grandchildren; one
great-grandson; two brothers, John Nelsen and wife, Beverly of
Goldfield and Don Nelsen and wife, Joann of Clarion; one sister,
Janis Soma of Eagle Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter,
Connie Nelson Smith.
