Constance Elizabeth
Binder, 82, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2006, at
the Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Sioux City.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, November 7, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church,
Royal, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Peggy A. Rose officiated.
Interment was in the North Lawn Memorial Park, Spencer.
Constance Elizabeth Hill,
was born on March 5, 1924 in Goldfield, the daughter of
Charles Leo and Hilda Luella Shaw Hill. Her childhood years
were spent in Meservey, where she received her education in
rural schools and later graduated from the Meservey High
School. Following her schooling, she continued to live in
Meservey until moving to Spencer in 1956, where she worked
as a housekeeper for Chris Binder.
Connie married Chris
Edward Binder on April 25, 1970 in Royal, Iowa. Following
their marriage, they continued to live on a farm near Royal.
She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she
was active in the church circle, the altar guild and held
several offices and women of the church. She was a member of
the Woman's Relief Corps, Secretary of the Iowa Department
of Women's Relief Corps, Annett Corps #287 and held several
offices with them. Connie enjoyed collecting kerosene lamps,
vases, dolls and horses and loved to do handiwork.
Connie is survived by one
sister, Wyona Denger and husband, Faye of Clarion; one
brother, Charles Hall and wife, Liz of Des Moines; and many
other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Chris on September 23, 1994; two
brothers, Franklin Joseph and Jerome; and one sister, Sharon
Lee.

Mildred
Cecelia Knutson
November 16, 2006
Mildred Cecelia Knutson,
age 73, of Eagle Grove, passed away on Thursday, November 9,
2006, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, November 11, at 1:30 p.m., at the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Pastor Paul Stone
officiated. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle
Grove.
Mildred Cecelia Knutson,
was born on June 1, 1933, the daughter of Norwegian
immigrants Gunner and Gertrude Knutson. She was raised on
the family farm north of Goldfield and attended the Thrall
Country School and graduated from the Goldfield High School
in 1951.
Mildred was married to
Harold E. Knutson of Thor for 47 years. The couple lived in
Thor for a short time, moved to her father's farm and then
moved to Eagle Grove in 1959.
Besides raising her
children, Millie found time to be involved in much volunteer
work in the community and her church, faithfully serving in
several positions involving Christian Education. She spent
many hours in the care of her elderly parents and the sewing
of clothes for herself and her children, including prom
dresses and bridesmaid gowns.
Millie worked for several
local businesses, including the TG & Y Store, Eagle Grove
Eagle, Stephens Cleaners and Fashions Unlimited as a
seamstress. She was the site manager of the Senior Citizens
Center and congregate meal program for 15 years and also
served as a census taken for the U.S. Government.
Mildred is survived by
eight children, Carol Magoon of Eldora, Connie Linn and
husband, Alan of Eagle Grove, Tom Knutson of Waterloo, Tim
Knutson and wife, Joan of Eagle Grove, Caryn Gray and
husband, Mike of Cedar Rapids, Christy Christensen and
husband, Kelly of Eagle Grove, Cathy Secoy and husband,
Kevin of Ankeny and Camilla Grandgeorge and husband, Bob of
Woolstock; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a
sister, Anna Kanten of Milan, Minnesota; and a brother,
Gerhard Knutson of Northfield, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Harold in 1999; and a brother, Dr.
Kent Knutson in 1973.

Charles Maier

Bernard Charles Maier, 76,
of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, died on Friday, November 10,
2006, at the Middle Tennessee Medical Center, Murfreesboro,
Tennessee.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held on Thursday, November 16, at 10:00 a.m., at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Father Chris
Podhajsky officiated. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery.
Bernard Charles Maier, was
born on May 22, 1930, on the parental farm east of Eagle
Grove, the son of Joseph and Sarah (Hamer) Maier. He
attended the Dayton Township School #7 until he went to
Eagle Grove Schools in the fifth grade. He missed a year of
school during his junior year due to polio. He graduated
from the Eagle Grove High School in 1949 and had been a
member of FFA and was awarded membership in the National
Honor Society. Later, he returned to Iowa Central College
and received his Associates Degree.
On September 1, 1951,
Bernie was united in marriage with Vernice Fischer at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. They had eight
children, five sons and three daughters.
He continued to farm east
of Eagle Grove, worked as a parts manager for Umthun
Trucking, in the parts department of the Jones John Deere
Store, and the Dows Co-op before moving to Murfreesboro,
Tennessee in June of 1988. Bernie was employed full-time
until he was forced to retire due to failing health.
Bernie served on the Gold
Eagle Co-op Board of Directors from 1977 to 1983, the Wright
County Fair Board from 1959 to 1984 serving as President for
six years, was a member of the Wright County Cattleman's'
Association, the Wright County Pork Producers and a life
long member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree.
Bernard is survived by his
wife, Vernice Maier of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; children,
David Maier of Denver, Colorado, Steven Maier and wife,
Susie of London, England and Madrid, Spain, Jeanne Burgart
and husband, David of Clear Lake, Jim Maier and wife,
Jennifer of Charlotte, South Carolina, Teresa Wallace and
husband, Jim of Clive, Jerry Maier and wife, Susan of Eagle
Grove, Brian Maier and wife, Maureen of Greenville, South
Carolina and Carole Bratcher and husband, John of
Murfreesboro, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; two sisters,
Lucille Crovisier of Eagle Grove and Virginia Maher of
Westfield, New Jersey; one brother, Dick Maier of Ames; one
sister-in-law, Lorene Maier of Eagle Grove; and many friends
and other relatives.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a brother, Joseph; twin grandchildren,
Kelsey and Joseph Maier; and one brother-in-law, John
Crovisier.

Betty June
Terry, 78, of Clarion, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2006,
at the USA Healthcare, Clarion.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 14, at the Foust
Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Bob Coates officiated. Burial was
in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
Betty June Dishman, was born on June 15, 1928 at St. Paul,
Minnesota, the daughter of Claude and Ethel (Mann) Dishman.
She attended school in Clarion.
On August 9, 1950, Betty was united in marriage with John F.
Terry at Belmond. The couple lived in Kansas City, Missouri
and Webster City, before moving to Eagle Grove in 1956.
Betty loved to tell jokes, listen to music and garden.
Betty is survived by her children, Jonnie Terry of Sierra
Vista, Arizona, Jim Terry and wife, Connie of Clarion, Linda Askvig and husband, Jerry of Goldfield, Mike Terry and wife,
Irma of Belmond and Craig Terry of Eagle Grove;
daughter-in-law, Karen Terry of Goldfield; one sister, Berniece
Coates of Lake Mills, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John on
February 8, 2002; one son, Dennis (Beaver) Terry in 1973; two
brothers, Bob Dishman and Claude Dishman, Jr.; and three
sisters, Florence Latch, Evelyn Wiley and Mildred Lamar.

Nadine Eileen (Doherty)
Sinkovic, 81, of Placerville, California, passed away of
natural causes on Wednesday, November 15, 2006.
There were no services
held and burial was in the Westwood Hill Memorial Park,
where she was buried beside her husband.
Nadine Eileen Doherty, was
born on June 3. 1925, in Clarion. She moved to California in
1945.
Nadine worked for the RCA
Service Company in the sales department for 25 years.
retiring in 1989. She and her husband moved to Pleasant
Valley, California and built the home of their dreams on 20
acres. In 2000, her husband passed away and she moved to
Placerville, California.
Nadine was a member of the
Ladies Auxiliary since 1950 and belonged to the U.S. Humane
Society for years and loved her cats. She loved gardening,
polkas, all music, dancing, camping, and feeding the blue
jays, squirrels and other birds. Her children and
grandchildren were her world.
Nadine is survived by two
sons, Dennis Bergquist and wife, Sally of Grand Junction,
Colorado and John Sinkovic, Jr. and wife, Shirley of Santa
Clara, California; three daughters, Marcia Pierce and
husband, Vern of Monrovia California, Lynn Matson of
Placerville, California and Linda Sinkovic Thompson and
husband, Peter of San Diego, California; 11 grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and one nephew.

Francis
Arndorfer
November 30, 2006
Francis
Arndorfer, 80, of Willmar, Minnesota, died on Sunday,
November 19, 2006, at the Rice Memorial Hospital from
injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
A Knights of Columbus
Rosary was held on Wednesday evening. A funeral service was
held on Wednesday, November 22, at the St. Mary's Catholic
Church. Interment was held in the church cemetery.
Francis Arndorfer
was born on January 17, 1926 in Akron, Colorado, the son of
Edward Francis and Mary Ellen (Pieper) Arndorfer. He
graduated from the Galt High School and started farming.
On August 30, 1949, he and Lorene Mae Chizek were married.
They lived and farmed at Galt, Britt and Clarion until 1967
when they moved to Willmar, Minnesota. He continued to farm
south of Willmar until 1989, when he retired. In 1993 they
moved into Willmar.
Francis was a Trojan Seed Company salesperson while living
in Clarion and was a Pioneer Seed Dealer for over 20 years
in Willmar. On August 6, 2005, Francis was united in married
to Verlene (Gauer) Hougen and they made their home in
Willmar.
He was a founding member and past state secretary of the
Minnesota Corn Growers Association. Francis was an active
member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, serving as a
Lector, Eucharistic Minister to the sick and homebound,
money counter, sacristan, active in the Befrienders program
and on the parish administrative committee and helped with
various projects at church.
He was an active member of
the Knights of Columbus for 59 years, serving in leadership
as Grand Knight, District Deputy, Faithful Navigator of the
4th Degree, Faithful Purser, Chairman of the Tootsie Roll
fund-raiser and member of the 4th Degree Honor Guard.
Francis was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and member
of the UHF Board.
He is survived by his
wife, Verlene of Willmar, Minnesota; six children, Kathy
Helgeson of Duluth, Minnesota, Mary Mootz and husband, Dr.
Jim of Willmar, Ed Arndorfer and wife, Marcia of Willmar,
Bill Arndorfer and wife, Pam of Waterloo, Elizabeth Carlson
and husband, Mike of Willmar and Steven Arndorfer and wife,
Rita of Lino Lakes; 26 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; mother, Mary Ellen Arndorfer of Adams,
Minnesota; five brothers, Jim Arndorfer and wife, Gladys of
Humeston, Iowa, Clarence Arndorfer and wife, Joyce of LeRoy,
Ken Arndorfer and wife, Margaret of Austin, Minnesota, Roger
Arndorfer and wife, Helen of Woolstock and John Arndorfer
and wife, Janet of Mankato, Minnesota; one sister, Rosemary
Laliberte and husband, John of Chattanooga, Tennessee; six
step-grandchildren, Peggy Hougen of Willmar, Marcia Voss and
husband, Mike of Littleton, Colorado, Mary Lynn Miner and
husband, Rick of Denver, Colorado, Mickey Fried and husband,
Gary of Willmar, Marjorie Deadrick and husband, Bruce of
Willmar and Melinda Masaitis and husband, Bill of Eden
Prairie; 16 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren;
and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; first wife, Lorene
in 2002; and one sister, Norma Jean Porter.

Raymond Lee Ansel

Raymond Lee
Ansel, 70, of Clarion, passed away on Friday, November 24,
2006, at the Mercy Medical Center, Mason City.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, November 28,
at the St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion. Fr. Chris
Podhajsky officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was
in the St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery, Clarion.
Raymond Lee Ansel, was born on June 22, 1936 at Oak Park,
Illinois, the son of George and Wilda (Phillips) Ansel. He
received his education at the Oak Park School.
On May 4, 1957, Ray was united in marriage to Barbara Andorf
at Elmhurst, Illinois. The couple made their home in the
area. In 1961, the family moved to Kanawha. The couple owned
and operated the Farmers Club and later had the
distributorship of a Marigold Milk Route. In 1999, the
couple moved to Clarion and have lived here since.
Ray's life centered around his family and grandchildren and
the special times they spent together canoeing in the
boundary waters.
He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in
Clarion, where he served on the Parish Council. He served as
a member of the Kanawha City Council while they lived in
Kanawha and was a 36-year member of the Kanawha Fire
Department.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara of Clarion; two daughters,
Betsy Mraz and husband, Lynn of Clarion and Laurie Schreur
and husband, Herbert; two sons, Joseph Ansel and Mark Ansel
and wife, Meridee; three granddaughters; seven grandsons;
three step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael;
three sisters, Betty, Vivian and Muriel; and one brother,
Bill.

Nellie Margaret Pletcher

Nellie
Margaret Pletcher, 89, a lifelong resident of Clarion, died
on Saturday, November 25, 2006, at the Wright Medical
Center, Clarion.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, November 29, at
the First United Methodist Church, Clarion. Pastor Don
Morrison officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service. A private
family burial was held.
Nellie Margaret Barker, was born on December 17, 1916 in
Clarion, the daughter of Frank and Ora Barker. She was
raised and educated in Clarion, graduating from the Clarion
High School in 1934. She enjoyed working for three
generations of the Sumners family at the Sumners Insurance
Agency in Clarion.
She was united in marriage to Raymond (Rab) Pletcher on July
6, 1940. They made their home in Florence, Iowa, and after
Rab retired, they built a home on Lake Cornelia.
Nellie enjoyed her bridge club, UMW Circle, and her coffee
klatches. She was always on the go and loved visiting with
her friends.
She is survived by one son, John Pletcher and wife, Barbara;
and two grandsons.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Rab; two
sisters, Leone and Ellen; and five brothers, Emory, Clare,
Bill, Guy and Glen.

Darlene Cellan

Darlene
Cellan, 75, of Clarion, passed away on Saturday, November
25, 2006, at the Wright Medical Center, Clarion.
A celebration of life service was held on Tuesday, November
28, at the United Church of Christ Congregational, Clarion.
Rev. Curt Miner officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service. Burial
was in held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Darlene Cellan, was born on December 26, 1930 in Dows, the
daughter of Laurel and Jennie (Wildeboer) Hill. She was
raised and educated in Dows, attending country school and
graduating from the Dows High School. While in high school,
Darlene participated in girls' basketball and was a baton
twirler.
On November 13, 1951, she was united in marriage to John
Cellan at the Dows Methodist Church. They made their home
and raised their family in Clarion.
Darlene worked at Saul's, Loren's and Doughtery's Jewelers,
Clarion Clothing, State Farm Insurance, City Hall, Extension
Office, read with the first graders at school, and
volunteered at the hospital.
She was a 50-year member of the United Church of Christ
Congregational, serving on the Religious Education
Committee, Women's Fellowship, Sunday School Teacher, and
many other positions in the church. Darlene was also a past
member of The Rebecca's Lodge, Royal Neighbors, VFW
Auxiliary, and a Cub Scout Leader.
She enjoyed baking cookies, playing cards, knitting,
crocheting and making quilts. She made all of her
grandchildren quilts and afghans.
She is survived by two daughters, Deb Senger and husband,
Mike of Clarion and Dani Kepler and husband, Jim of Boone;
one son, David Cellan of Iowa Falls; five grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ken Hill and wife,
Norma of Dows; one niece; and two nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John;
and son, Doug.

Esther Astrid Otilde
Roseland, 98, of Eagle Grove, passed away on Monday,
November 27, 2006, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home, Eagle
Grove.
A funeral service was held
on Wednesday, November 29, at the Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Eagle Grove. Pastor Paul Stone and H. W. Schiller
officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in the Rose
Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
Esther Astrid Otilde
Roseland, was born on June 19, 1908 in Earlville, Illinois,
the daughter of Lars and Agnes (Svendsen) Anderson. She
lived most of her life in the Eagle Grove/Clarion areas,
attending school in Lake Township. She moved with her family
to North Dakota near Courtney for a short time and then
returned to the Clarion area.
On November 14, 1928,
Esther was united in marriage with Julius Roseland at the
Lutheran Parsonage in Fort Dodge. The couple made their home
in Eagle Grove. Julius preceded her in death in 1975.
Esther was confirmed at
the Holmes Lutheran Church and was a member of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, where she was
also active with church circle.
She is survived by her
children, Donald E. Roseland and partner, Ron Mueller of Sun
City West, Arizona, Marvin Roseland of Eagle Grove, Shirley
Spangler and husband, Jerry of Sun City West, Arizona and
Ellen McCurry and husband, Scott of Eagle Grove; 11
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie
Knight of Goldfield, Lila Roseland of Eagle Grove and
Lillian Stevenson and husband, Larry of Goldfield; and one
brother, Alfred Anderson and wife, Virginia of Eagle Grove.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband; one sister, Margaret Trotter; and
two brothers, Art and Albert Anderson.

Norma Lottie
Hart

Norma Lottie Hart, 90, of
Clarion, formerly of Dows, passed away on Wednesday,
November 29, 2006, at her home in Clarion.
A memorial service was
held on Tuesday, December 5, at the Presbyterian Church in
Dows. Pastor Kalen Fristad officiated at the 1:00 p.m.
service.
Norma Lottie Crafton, was
born on March 28, 1916 in Morgan Township, Franklin County,
the youngest daughter of James and Lottie (McCallister)
Crafton.
Norma graduated from the
Dows High School in 1934. On August 11, 1939, Norma was
united in marriage to Joseph Hart of Williams and they made
their home in Dows. For 29 years they enjoyed winters at the
Alamo Recreation Vehicle Park at Alamo, Texas.
Norma worked for one year
at the U.S. Post Office in Dows and 27 years at the Farmer's
State Bank in Dows.
Norma was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church since April 1930 and also was a
long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the
Eastern Star.
Norma is survived by her
husband, Joseph of Clarion; one sister, Verna Ryan of Dows;
and four nephews and two nieces.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; two brothers, George and Robert (Jiggs); and
one sister, Ina Olson.
