Paul Alan Andersen
October 13, 2005
Paul Alan Andersen, 53,
of Clarion, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2005, at his home.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, at the Holmes
Lutheran Church. Pastor Stan Petersen will officiate at the 10:30 a.m.
service. A private interment will be in the Holmes Lutheran Church
Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on
Saturday.
Paul Alan Andersen, was born on November 30, 1951 in Storm Lake, the son of
Alvin and Maurine (McGuire) Andersen. He graduated from the Pocahontas
High School in 1970. After graduation, he entered the Army and served
for two years.
Paul attended college at DMACC, graduating with a degree in Horticulture.
After graduation he started farming on his grandfather's farm, where he
worked and lived until his death.
Paul is survived by his parents, Alvin and Maurine Andersen of Hampton;
two brothers, Ron Andersen and David Andersen and his wife, Barbara, all
of Pinehurst, Texas; one sister, Kristi Everett and her husband, Scott
of Durango, Colorado; two nephews; two nieces; several aunts and uncles;
and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and one aunt, Norma Blilie.

Irvin Gene Hansen
October 27, 2005
Irvin Gene Hansen, 77, of Ruthven, passed away on
Wednesday, October 12, 2005.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, October 17, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven.
Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Interment was
in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven.
Irvin Gene Hansen, was born on
October 20, 1927, on the "Connor" farm south of Ruthven, the son of Nina
Mae (Miller) and Carl Edward Hansen. He attended school at Ayrshire
until the family moved to the Hansen family farm south of Ruthven on the
Clay/Palo Alto County line. He graduated from the Gillett Grove High
School in 1946.
Irvin married Barbara Markley
on January 23, 1948 at Pender, Nebraska. They moved to the farm
southeast of Ruthven where they raised their family and lived until
1991, when they moved to Ruthven. Irvin loved being a farmer. From an
early age he helped his father with the family custom corn shelling,
trucking and farming operation.
Irvin is survived by his wife,
Barbara of Ruthven; children, Diane Gardner and husband, William of
Sioux City, Denise Ruehle of Ruthven, Debra Hansen of Algona, David
Hansen and wife, Deborah of Algona, Darcell Robb and husband, Gary of
Clarion, Derek Hansen of Ruthven and Daaron Hansen and wife, Amy of
Spencer; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Wayne
Hansen and wife, Jeanine of Peterson, Iowa and Texas, and Raymond Hansen
of Union Grove, Wisconsin; a sister, Virginia Novak and husband, Allen
of Mendota, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Maxine Hansen of Ruthven; and
many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; a brother, Leo; and a grandson, Michael John Hansen.

Letha O. Nichols
October 20, 2005
Letha O. Nichols, 80, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2005, at her home
in Goldfield.
Funeral services were held on
Saturday, October 15, at 2:30 p.m., at the Abundant Life Chapel in
Dows. She was laid to rest at the Mount Hope Cemetery following the
services.
Letha O. Harris, was born on
February 8, 1925 in Stratford, the daughter of Ernest and Olivia
(Foster) Harris. She graduated from the Popejoy High School in 1943. She
was united in marriage to Carmon Hershel Nichols on August 19, 1944, in
Eagle Grove.
Throughout her life time, she
had been employed at the turkey plant in Ellsworth, Boyt Manufacturing
in Iowa Falls, and Asgrow Seed in Clarion.
Letha, her husband and children
moved several times in Iowa and Missouri during her married life and
settled in Dows in 1972. Letha moved to Goldfield in 2003. She spent her
spare time embroidering, cooking, baking, reading and keeping house.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; husband, Carmon "Slim" Nichols; and one son, Arnold Eugene
Nichols.
She is survived by five
children, Burl Wayne Nichols and wife, Roxie of Kahoka, Missouri, Sandra
Sue Thomas of Eagle Grove, Kathi Franklin and husband, Roger of Norman,
Oklahoma, Russell Carmon Nichols and wife, Brenda of Eldora and Pattie
Nichols of Goldfield; one sister, Nadine Jackson of Dows; nine
grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jose Martinez
October 20, 2005
Jose Martinez, 35, of Melbourne, Iowa, passed away on
October 14, 2005, at his home. Funeral services will be held in Mexico.
Jose Martinez, was born on April 12, 1970 in Tizapan, Mexico.
He came to the United States in 1988.
He is survived by Connie Hill
and their twin daughters, Selena and Jasmine, of Melbourne; also a son,
Jose in Mexico; and ten brothers and sisters.

Michael H. Whitman
October 27, 2005
Michael H. Whitman, 58,
of Hot Springs, Arkansas, died on Friday, August 26, 2005, after a
courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 29, at the United
Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Following the memorial service there
will be lunch and fellowship in the fellowship hall.
Michael H. Whitman, was born on March 22, 1947 at Fort Dodge, the son of the
late Ed Whitman and Rose Aupperle Whitman.
He graduated from high school in Clarion and attended Ellsworth College
in Iowa Falls. He was associated with the Red Owl Grocery chain for
several years before owning two grocery stores. He moved to Hot Springs
in 1978 and became an independent insurance broker.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Hot Springs; two sons, Mike Whitman
and Mark Whitman, both of Hot Springs; one special grandson, Michael
Whitman of Hot Springs; one brother, Ed Whitman and wife, Linda of
Plymouth, Minnesota; three aunts, Bergel Whitman of Clarion, Barbara
Whitman of Lexington, Illinois and Marjorie Gunderson of Houston, Texas;
mother-in-law, Joyce Griffith of Clarion; brother-in-law, Dan Griffith
and wife, Karen of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Jaynece Tekippe and
husband, Patrick of Fort Atkinson, Iowa; sister-in-law, Carol Chapman
and husband, Greg of Clarion; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and
great-nephews.

Robert Laddie
Locke
November 3, 2005
Robert Laddie Locke,
85, of Ames and formerly of Clarion, died on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at
the
Heartwood House.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 31, 2005, at the First United Methodist
Church, Clarion. Rev. Don Morrison officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service.
Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Robert Laddie Locke, was born on March 18, 1920 in Rutland, the son of Byron
and Ione (Coffin) Locke. He grew up on a dairy farm north of Gilmore
City and graduated from the Bradgate High School.
He married Ethel Davis (Gilmore City) in 1945 at Anacortes, Washington.
Locke served his country during World War II in the Naval Air Corp at
Whidbey Island, Washington and the Aleutian Islands. After being
discharged, he attended Iowa State University, graduating in Agronomy.
Upon graduation, he was employed in Clarion for 15 years with the Wright
County Soil Conservation Service. He then worked as a farm manager and
real estate broker with the Sandage Companies in Clarion and in Ames
until retirement.
While in Clarion, Robert was a past trustee of the First United Methodist
Church, President of the Clarion School Board and a member of the Wright
County Conservation Board. He was currently a member of the American
Legion in Clarion, First United Methodist Church in Ames, the ISU Alumni
Association, and the Order of the Knoll.
Robert's greatest love in life was his family. He enjoyed baseball, golf,
fishing, and all ISU sports.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Ames; two daughters, Becky (Thomas) Deimerly of Marshalltown and Julie Nail (Nickolas-deceased) of Fort
Dodge; one son, Robert (Debra) Locke of Omaha, Nebraska; six
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Delores Rogers
of Walnut Creek, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and
one brother, Ray.

Michael Paul Riley
November 3, 2005
Michael Paul Riley, 42,
of Clarion, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2005, at the Wright Medical
Center, Clarion.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at the First Lutheran in Clarion.
Pastor Gary Boen will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service and burial will
be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Michael Paul Riley, was born on September 16, 1963 in Clarion, the son of
Maurice and Gladys Nelson Riley. He was raised and educated in Clarion,
graduating from the Clarion High School in 1982. After graduation he
attended community college for a short time.
He worked for All Star Pro Golf as a silk screener. He then worked at the
Clarion Care Center and then at Electrolux in Webster City for eleven
years, where he really enjoyed his job.
Michael's hobbies included fishing, bowling and playing pool. He also
enjoyed singing in the church choir and along with the radio when
traveling. He was a member of First Lutheran and was active as an usher
and member of the choir.
Michael is survived by his parents; one brother, Doug Riley and wife,
Cindy of Clarion; one nephew and one niece; and many aunts, uncles and
cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Lavina Riley and
Oscar and Irene Nelson.
