Lynn Llewellyn
Schroder
May 5, 2005
Lynn Llewellyn Schroder, 87, of
the Dows and Galt areas, passed away on Sunday, May 1,
2005, at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 4, at the Dows Methodist
Church. Pastor Stan Watne officiated. Burial was in
the Galt Cemetery.
Lynn Llewellyn Schroder, was born on July 17, 1917, the son of Bill and
Margaret (Kuehl) Schroder. He received his education
in the Vernon Township Country School, the Public
School of Seattle, Washington and graduated from the
Galt High School in 1935. On July 4, 1941, Lynn was
united in marriage to Celeste Elaine Korth, also of
Galt, in Marysville, Missouri.
Lynn farmed his whole life, but also had a passion for hunting and
fishing.
In 2000, Lynn entered the USA Healthcare Center in Dows. When that
facility closed he transferred to the facility in
Clarion.
He is survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Celeste; three brothers,
Stanton "Buck" Schroder, Mitchell D. Schroder and Van
Schroder.

Ruth Marie McCormick
May 5 & 12, 2005
Ruth
Marie McCormick, 76, of Clarion, died on Monday, May 2,
2005 at the USA Health Care Center in Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 5, at the United Church of
Christ Congregational in Clarion. Pastor Curt Miner
officiated at the 10:00 a.m. service. Burial was in
the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Ruth Soren, was born on April 7, 1929 in Clarion, the daughter of Elmer and
Marie (Meineke) Soren. She grew up on a farm in rural
Clarion and attended country school, graduating from
the Clarion High School in 1946. Ruth was employed by
the telephone company.
On September 23, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage with Dean McCormick at
the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made
their home on the family farm near Clarion, where they
raised their three children. Ruth and Dean farmed
together for many years and continued to live on the
farm until Ruth became a resident of the USA Health
Care Center in Clarion.
Ruth enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She
always made time to help the children with their 4-H
projects. She had a good sense of humor.
Ruth was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in
Clarion where she enjoyed attending Women's Fellowship
and was also a member of the Ceres Circle.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Dean of 53 years; three children, Rick
McCormick and wife, Nancy of Council Bluffs, Christi
Patterson and husband, Harold of Nevada, Scott
McCormick and wife, Linda of Clarion; five
grandchildren; one half-sister, Carol; one
half-brother, Leonard; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Marj.

Arletta Helen Busse
May 5, 2005
Arletta Helen Busse, 83, of Clarion, passed away on
Saturday, April 9, 2005, at the Wright Medical Center
in Clarion.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 11, at 2:00 p.m., at
the First Lutheran Church in Clarion. Family and
friends are invited.
Arletta Helen Leege, was born on January 9, 1922, the daughter of Albert and
Sophia Leege. She was raised on a farm near Lytton,
graduating from high school in 1939.
In 1946, while
attending Wartburg College in Waverly, she met Wilbert Busse. They were married
on February 25, 1947. Arletta
and Wilbert relocated to Clarion in 1951. Wilbert
owned an electrical business and both were active
members of the First Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Paula Kae Busse-Barnett and Charlotte
Busse.
Arletta was preceded in death by her parents in 1957: and husband,
Wilbert in 2002.

Peggy Sue Warwick
May 12, 2005
Peggy Sue (Michels) Warwick, 43,
of Coulter, died on Thursday, May 5, 2005, near Popejoy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12, at the St. Paul's
Lutheran Church in Latimer. Rev. Marvin Lorenz will
officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial will be in
the Coulter Cemetery.
Peggy Sue Michels, was born on October 17, 1961 in Independence, the daughter
of Clem and Rita (Scharer) Michels. She graduated from
the Oelwein High School and attended the North Iowa
Community College in Mason City. She and Thomas
Warwick were married on September 26, 1981, at the St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Hazelton. Peggy worked in
Home Health Care and was a waitress at Dudley's
Corner.
Peggy was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Latimer. She
enjoyed visiting with people and helping the elderly.
She enjoyed her family and reading and liked to watch
her children play sports and other activities.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas of Coulter; three sons,
Christopher Warwick of Urbandale, Michael Warwick and
wife, Jeni of Pella and Tyson Warwick of Coulter; one
daughter, Kimberly Warwick of Des Moines; father, Clem
Michels of Hazelton; seven sisters, Barbara Vandersee
of Aurora, Iowa, Bernice Vargason and husband, Roger
of Independence, Ginny Hyatt and husband, Joe of Ft.
Huachuca, Arizona, Eileen Koob and husband, Robert of
Oelwein, Margie Fernau and husband, Steve of Waterloo,
Monica Wurzer and husband, Darin of Ft. Atkinson and
Marlene Dawson and husband, Glen of Oelwein; four
brothers, Paul Michels and wife, Mary of Hazelton,
Leroy Michels of Haughton, Louisiana, Fritz Michels
and wife, DeAnn of Hazelton and C. John Michels and wife,
Sue of Oelwein; and brother-in-law, Glen Stewart of Lomira, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Rita Michels; a sister, Delores
Stewart; one niece and one nephew.

Merle C. Been
May 12, 2005
Merle C. Been, 72, of Belmond,
passed away on Monday, May 9, 2005, at his home in
Belmond.
Visitation was held on Thursday, May 12, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home,
Belmond, from 4-8:00 p.m. Funeral services were held
at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, May 13, at the United Methodist
Church, the Rev. Michael Druhi officiated. Burial was
in the Belmond Cemetery. Graveside military rites were
provided by the Belmond Honor Guard. The services were
under the direction of the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
Per Merle's request he would like memorials to go to the Belmond
Community School Scholarship 11 Foundation, Belmond
Hospital Foundation, Belmond United Methodist Church,
Belmond Arts Council-Santa House, Hospice of Wright
Co. and the Tingley Community Center.
Merle was born on January 21, 1933, to William "Harley" Been and Leona
(Saltzman) Been in Tingley, Iowa. Growing up in a
small community, Merle the son of the local barber,
kept his roots by attending Tingley functions with
friends and family throughout the years.
He completed
High School in 1951 and married Doris Johnson at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on October 4,
1952. They began their married life in Newton, Iowa
where he was employed by Wilding Plumbing & Heating.
Merle (M. C.) entered the armed forces during the
Korean conflict. He and Doris lived in the states of
Virginia and California until his honorable discharge
in 1956. Three children were born to this union,
Steven, Jonel, and Rodney.
After service, Merle entered into various positions in Des Moines related
to the printing industry, until he decided to
"venture" off and start his own printing career. In
1965 he purchased the Town & Country Advertiser of
Wesley, Iowa and started The Reminder in Belmond, this
led to the beginning of Printing Services Inc. Good
friends, Bob & Fern Tomson played an important part in
the early development of the company. The publication
and the printing company expanded many times over the
years and now houses the main production plant in
Belmond, with satellite offices in Mason City and
Webster City, Iowa.
In addition to being Owner and
President of Printing Services, Inc., Merle was the
owner of the Winter Texan Publication and Co-owner of
Farm & Home Publishers, City Directory, Inc., Action
Associates and True Value Farm & Home. Various other
business "ventures" over the years were: Cornbelt
Horseman News, Kanawha Reporter, Webster City Shopper,
Iowa Falls Shopper, Hampton Shopper, Northwood Office
Supplies & Shopper, Britt Town & Country Advertiser,
Hunter Ross Publications, American Woods, Wright
Fabrication, Model Cleaners, Sports Cages and Ministry
Management. One of Merle's favorite mottos was
"Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained" as was evident
throughout his life.
Merle enjoyed being a part of and serving his community. Since 1965 he
served as a member and past president of the Belmond
Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Belmond
Industrial Development Corporation and served with his
good friends, George Hinman and Gary Berkland on the
Luick Trust for 21 years. He was involved with the
Belmond Scouting Program and he was honored with the Outstanding Adult
Scouter and the District Award of Merit, and was a
Belmond Lions Club member, receiving the Melvin Jones
Fellowship Award and the Warren Coleman Award. Merle
was a charter member, past president and stockholder
of the Belmond Country Club. He was an active Jaycee
member earning numerous awards including Boss of the
Year and Distinguished Service. He was a member of the
Lake Cornelia Improvement Association and many of
Merle's most enjoyable moments were spent on Lake
Cornelia at the cabin with family and friends! Also a
member of the Midwest Free Community Papers, where he
served as board member and treasurer for over
twenty-seven years. Through this organization he was
honored with the highest award, Past Presidential
Memorial Award and was honored with a Merle C. Been
night, where he was given an annual scholarship to be
awarded in his name.
Merle was a faithful member of the Belmond United Methodist Church and
served as an Administrative Board Chairperson,
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Pastor-Parish
Chairperson, Finance Chairperson and Usher, along with
various other committees.
Merle & Doris enjoyed many trips through their years, especially when it
involved spending time with family and friends along
the way. His family meant the world to him, and he
cherished each and every one of his 9 grandchildren
and was happy to be a part of their lives.
Over the years Merle helped many people get started in ventures of their
own and will be missed as a mentor and contributor to
the community, as well as a husband, father,
grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and employer.
Left to survive Merle are his wife, Doris; sons, Steven (Jeri) and Rodney
(Laurie); daughter, Jonel Worden (Brian) all of
Belmond; sisters, Maudeene Swinehart (Bud) of Des
Moines, Iowa, Marrabell Schulz (Earl) of Vancouver,
Washington and Mardell Donner (Don) of Augusta, Georgia;
brother, Milo (Naomi) of West Des Moines, Iowa;
sisters-in-law, Lillian Been of Palm Harbor, Florida,
Nila Been of Goodland, Kansas, Chrystal Johnson of
Waverly, Nebraska, Willie Johnson of Newton, Iowa and
Cleone Thompson, Louise Johnson, Cleone Hosfield and
Pat Johnson all of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; grandchildren,
Linzey Worden, Kevin Been, Lane Worden, Travis Been,
Landon Worden, Corey Been, Dana Been, Luke Worden and
Nathan Been; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and
other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Leona Been; three
brothers, Marvin, Mark and Mac; two sisters, Margaret
Dutton and Marilyn Tindle; father and mother-in-law,
Bill and Edith Johnson; sisters-in-law, Marian Solomon
and Gene Johnson; brothers-in-law, Charles Dutton, Max
Tindle, Keith, Clare, Lawrence, Merrill, Dean and
Marvin Johnson, Joe Thompson, Dale Reynolds, Ben
Solomon and Kenny Hosfield.

Kathy Deanne Deimerly
May 26, 2005
Kathy
Deanne Deimerly, 43, of Clarion, died on Tuesday, May 10,
2005, in Ames after a short battle with cancer.
A Celebration of her life was held on Monday, May 16, from 5-8:00 p.m. Her cremains will be spread at a later time.
Kathy Deanna Kennedy, was born on February 17, 1962 in Fort Dodge, the
daughter of Louis and Joyce (Paterson) Kennedy.
Kathy was married to Tim Snider and to this marriage two children were
born. The marriage ended in divorce.
On December 18, 1992, Kathy married Patrick Deimerly in Webster City. The
couple made their home in Clarion.
Kathy worked at Unlimited Opportunities for the past six years, until her
health would no longer allow her to work. Kathy
enjoyed working with her clients as well as being a
friend to each of them. Kathy enjoyed being a wife,
mother and grandmother. In her spare time she enjoyed
doing cross stitch and putting together puzzles, but
most of all being with her family.
Surviving Kathy is her husband, Pat; daughter, Jessica; son, Travis;
stepson, Jeff Deimerly and wife, Robin; two
grandchildren; mother, Joyce Craig; three sisters,
Karen, Edith and Sarah; one brother, Louis; along with
her family members from her first marriage. Kathy
always made sure that family came together and stayed
together.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father.

Beverly Jean
Helgeson
May 19, 2005
Beverly Jean Helgeson, 65, of
rural Kensett, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2005,
as a result of a vehicle accident in rural Fertile.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 16, at the Elk Creek Lutheran
Church in Kensett. Rev. Allan J. Stoa officiated at
the service. Burial was in the Elk Creek Lutheran
Church Cemetery. The family of Beverly Jean Helgeson
request that memorial contributions be made to the Elk
Creek Lutheran Church in her memory.
Beverly Jean Boutelle, was born on May 20, 1939 in Mason City, the daughter
of Everett and Edna (Entner) Boutelle. She was raised
and educated in the Kensett and Osage areas. She
graduated from the Osage High School in 1956 at the
age of 16, a full two years ahead of her peers. After
graduation she worked as a telephone operator for Bell
Telephone in Mason City.
In 1960, she injured her head
while traveling with her family near Plymouth, Iowa.
She was admitted to Mercy Hospital for a couple of
days, and it was at this time she first spotted Roger
Helgeson. Roger was in the hospital with a broken leg.
She stopped and talked to him and this started a
courtship which lasted nearly 42 years.
Beverly started working at the Post Office in June 1979, where she
continued to work for 26 years.
She was a member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, the church circle, and
was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was
also a member of the Rural Carriers' Association.
Beverly was very active in Scouting, 4-H, and various
school organizations.
She loved her animals, gardening, and bird watching, but above all she
loved and adored her family.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Roger Helgeson of Kensett; two sons,
Steven J. Helgeson and wife, Sally of Clarion and Dr.
Rodney D. Helgeson of Louisville, Kentucky; one
daughter, Lori J. Peters and husband, Mike of Lansing;
mother and stepfather, Edna Boutelle Seamann and
husband, Heinz Seamann of Davenport; seven
grandchildren; one brother, Robert Boutelle and wife,
Nancy of Walcott; many nieces and nephews, as well as
other relatives and many friends.
An infant son, Timothy; her father, Everett Boutelle; and mother-in-law
and father-in-law, Lu Lu and James Helgeson, preceded
her in death.

Leone McClelland

Leone
McClelland, 92, of Clarion, passed away on Friday, May
13, 2005, at the USA Health Care Center, Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 16, at the Ewing Dugger
Helgeson Funeral Home in Clarion. Pastor Tim Platt
officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in
the Evergreen Cemetery.
Leone Messer, was born on October 7, 1912, the daughter of Earl and Lillian
(Krug) Messer. She graduated from the Eagle Grove High
School.
On January 1, 1933, she married Leslie (Casey) Raymond McClelland. They
settled in Clarion where he was employed by the Great
Western Railroad. After her husband's death on March
17, 1950, Leone worked at the Clarion Memorial
Hospital until she retired.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry of New Orleans and Paul and wife, Judy
of New York; one daughter, Sandra Rhyan and husband,
Dennis of North Dakota; 22 grandchildren; and numerous
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Earl; and a daughter,
Judy Adams.

Gladys Jeanette
Summers
May 19, 2005
Gladys Jeanette Summers, 103, of Belmond, died
on Sunday, May 15,
2005, at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 18, at the Trinity Lutheran
Church, Belmond. Rev. Rod Hopp officiated at the 10:30
a.m. service. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to be given to the Wright
County Hospice, Trinity Lutheran Church,
or the donor's choice.
Gladys Jeanette Roseland, was born on March 24, 1902 in Eagle Grove, the
daughter of John J. and Gertrude (Christopherson)
Roseland. Her mother died when she was eight days old
and she was raised in the foster home of Rasmus and
Brita Velve of Eagle Grove.
Gladys was united in marriage to Hiriam Austin Summers on February 20,
1924. To this union, four children were born.
Gladys was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, Veterans
of Foreign War Auxiliary, Senior Citizens,
Grandmothers Club and the Trinity Lutheran Church
Women.
Gladys is survived by two sons, William (Bill) Summers of Wichita Falls,
Texas and Robert (Bob) Summers and wife, Carolyn of
Belmond; two daughters, Bernadine Cooke and husband,
Bob of Belmond and Elaine Lester and husband, Norman of
Goldfield; sister-in-law, Lila Roseland of Eagle
Grove; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six
step-great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents; husband;
sisters, Jennie Willard, Clara McCormick and Agnes Hoffbuhr; half-brother, Arthur Roseland; daughter, Bea
Landerman; three grandsons, Duane Summers, Baby
Summers and Scott Lanferman; one granddaughter, Roxanne
Summers; and one great-grandson, Jeremy Williams.

Clifford Russel
Swanson

Clifford Russel Swanson, 89, of Clarion, passed away
on
Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the Wright Medical Center in
Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 23, at the First
Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. Pastor Paul Peebler
officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in
the
Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Clifford Russel Swanson, was born on September 9, 1915 on
a farm near Dows, the son of George and Edith (Jones)
Swanson. He was raised and educated in the area of his
birth.
In 1941, Clifford was united in marriage with Mary
Louise Ahrends. The couple farmed near Galt until
1966, when they moved to Eagle Grove. Clifford worked
for the Boone Valley Co-op, Co-op Lumber Company and the
Rotary Ann Nursing Home.
Clifford was a member of the United Methodist Church
in Eagle Grove.
Clifford is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Swanson
of Clarion; three daughters, Carol Moulds and husband,
Mel of Lake City, Judy Ketchum and husband, Roger of
Algona and Elner Noack and husband, John of Waterloo;
six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a
sister, Mabel Sturgeon of Clarion; and a brother,
Raymond Swanson and wife,
Betty of Dows.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an
infant brother.

Arthur "Art" Donovon Homervold
May 26, 2005
Arthur "Art" Donovon Homervold, 85, of Clarion, passed
away on Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the Wright Medical
Center in Clarion.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 26, at the First
Lutheran Church in Clarion. Pastor Gary Boen will
officiate at the 2:00 p.m. service. Visitation will be
held on Wednesday, May 25, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the
Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home, 602 North Main
Street, Clarion and continue one hour prior to
services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in
the Mamreland Cemetery near Randall at 5:00 p.m.
Arthur "Art" Donovon Homervold, was born
on June 11, 1919 in Thor, the son of
Peter and Anna (Rolland) Homervold.
On November 12, 1942, Art was united in marriage to Arlene Charlson at
the Lutheran parsonage in Belmond. To this union one
daughter was born.
Art farmed near Galt for four years, then near Belmond until he retired
in 1992 and moved to Clarion.
Art was an avid sports fan, especially fond of wrestling. He was very
proud of his Norwegian heritage. Art had been a member
of the First Lutheran Church in Clarion since 1942.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; a daughter, Faye Heykants of Des
Moines; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and
son-in-law, Bill Heinzig of Ankeny.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Loretta Catherine Shillington
June 2, 2005
Loretta Catherine (Reiland) Shillington, 86, of
Clarion, passed way on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, May 28, at the St.
John's Catholic Church in Clarion. Father David
Beckman officiated at the 10:00 a.m. service. Burial
was in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Clarion.
Loretta Catherine Reiland, was born on May 17, 1919 in Wright County, the
daughter of Emma and Anthony Reiland. She was raised
and educated in Wright County.
On April 13, 1940, Loretta and Clark "Butch" Shillington were married. To
this union four children were born. Loretta was a busy
mother and a true farm wife helping with the
livestock, fieldwork, canning, etc.
On April 9, 1962,
Butch died in a pickup accident, leaving Loretta as a
young widow with four school age children. In December
of 1962, Loretta and the children moved into Clarion,
where she lived in the same home until 2003. She kept
busy raising her family and at different times working
part time at Cargill hauling grain, worked at Dick Landess' Pharmacy and Anderson Clothing.
Loretta loved to bowl and golf. She enjoyed and supported her children
and grandchildren with all their school activities and
events, which included attending 4-H calf shows,
racing events, etc. She was always in the bleachers.
Loretta was proud of her children, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren and was always there if any of her
family needed her.
Loretta was originally a member of the St. Joseph's Mission Church in
southwest Clarion and then St. John's Catholic Church
in Clarion. The Catholic Church was an important part
of her life. She had great faith and belief in Christ
and had been a member of the St. Theresa's Circle.
Loretta is survived by her four children and their spouses, Linda McGrath
and husband, Bennie, Marilyn "Shorty" Anderson and
husband, Larry, Lyle Shillington and wife, Diana and
Paula McCloskey and husband, Barney; ten
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister,
Dorothy Anderson; plus many, many relatives and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Oswald,
Raymond and Carroll; sisters, Ursula Stewart, Mary
Hill, Veronica Hogle, Rita Fischer and Gladys Reiland.

Cordelle Irene
Jergenson
June 2, 2005
Cordelle Irene Jergenson, 88, of
Eagle Grove, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2005, at the
Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 28, at the
Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. Pastor Paul
Stone officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in
the
Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the
Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Eagle Grove Group
Home.
Cordelle Irene Duitscher, was born on July 21, 1916 in
Clarion, the daughter of Art and Zella (Sanders)
Duitscher. She was raised on the family farm and
educated in the Clarion Schools, graduating from the
Clarion High School in 1934.
On March 14, 1936, Cordelle was united in marriage
with Arthur Jergenson at the Baptist Parsonage in
Goldfield, with Pastor Ira D. Halverson officiating.
The couple farmed 14 years east of Eagle Grove on the
Ida Higgin farm. In 1950, they purchased a farm north
of Holmes on the Renwick blacktop. Arthur preceded her in
death on January 10, 1997.
Cordelle was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church,
rural Kanawha. On December 18, 1977, they returned to
membership at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle
Grove, where she was an active member.
Cordell loved to garden and cook, and especially
enjoyed sharing with others.
Survivors include a son, Willis Jergenson and wife,
Barbara of Kanawha; a daughter, Linda Blau and husband,
Don of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; a sister, Izola Mulhern of
Phoenix, Arizona; and a brother, Stanley Duitscher of
Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; six
sisters, Geraldine, Marjorie, Josephine, Barbara, Arthelda and Thelma; and one brother, Wendell.

Allen Watson Struthers
June 2, 2005
Allen
Watson Struthers, 54, of Clarion, passed away on
Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Hospital
in Kearney, Nebraska.
A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, June 1, at the United
Methodist Church in Clarion. Pastor Don Morrison
officiated at the 1:00 p.m. service.
Allen Watson Struthers, was born on September 12, 1950, on a farm west of Ottosen in Humboldt County, the son of Ralph and
LaVonna (Hansen) Struthers. He was raised and educated
in West Bend. He graduated from the West Bend High
School in 1969. He attended Emmetsburg Community
College and Iowa Central Community College, where he
studied Agricultural Business. He later completed a
Management Development Program in 1977 at Iowa Central
in Fort Dodge.
On July 10, 1970, Allen married Dorothy Schafer at the St. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church in West Bend. To this union three
daughters were born, Lucretia Marie, Stephanie Kae and
Alaina Marie.
In 1970, Allen and Dorothy made their home in Ottosen, where Allen worked
and later managed the Ottosen Elevator. In 1984, the
family moved to Clarion where Allen became the new
manager of the Clarion Co-op. Allen helped this one
site co-op grow to six locations. He led the North Central
Co-op as General Manager until his retirement in 2003.
Allen served as a Chief for the Ottosen Volunteer Fire Department. He was
a member of the Clarion United Methodist Church, the
Clarion Lions Club, served on the Clarion City
Council, and was also a member of The Iowa Institute
of Cooperatives, and was active in several
agricultural related businesses.
Allen enjoyed traveling, being outdoors farming, golfing, and grilling.
His favorite time was spent with his family,
especially grandchildren.
Allen is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Clarion; three children, Lucretia Marie Hosfelt and husband, Bill of Massena,
Stephanie Kae Ticknor and husband, Rob of Massena and
Alaina Marie Struthers of Clarion; six grandchildren,
Alicia and Keagan Hosfelt, Trace, Drew, Macy, and Cade
Ticknor; mother, LaVonna Struthers of West Bend;
brother, Ronald Struthers and wife, Dorothy of Arvada,
Colorado; three sisters, Virginia Anderson of Ames,
Beverly Jensen of Sibley and Vera Jean Banwart and
husband, Blake of West Bend; and numerous nieces,
nephews and friends.
Allen was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Struthers.

Junior J. Everhard
June 2, 2005
Junior J. Everhard, 72, of Clarion, and
formerly of
Eagle Grove and Humboldt, died on Sunday, May 29, 2005.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 3, at 1:30 p.m., at the
Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Rev. Jerry Raether of the
Zion Lutheran Church will officiate.
