Dorothy D. Hanson
March 3, 2005
Dorothy D. Hanson, 94,
of Clarion, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at the USA Health Care
Center in Clarion.
Private family graveside services will be held at a
future date in the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion, with Pastor Gary Boen
officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be directed to her family.
Dorothy O'Brien, was born in Des Moines on December 15, 1910, the daughter
of Dean and Dolly Adams O'Brien. She received her education in the Des
Moines Schools and later worked at the Central National Bank in Des Moines.
Dorothy married Elmer Hanson of Kanawha, on December 13, 1930. Mr. Hanson
was employed by the Iowa State Banking Department and they lived in
Centerville, Sioux City and later in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he
worked for Standard Oil. They moved to Kanawha in 1941, when Elmer's
father retired and Elmer was president of the bank there for 28 years
before retiring and moving to Clarion in 1969. Elmer passed away in 1986
and Dorothy moved to the Meadows in August, 1993.
Dorothy was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Clarmond Country Club,
Belmond Country Club and the Senior Citizens group.
She is survived by three children, Robert and Shirley Hanson of Crocker,
Missouri, Kathryn Hanson Leonard of Lewisville, Texas and Margaret and
David Zeigler of Clarion; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
and one sister-in-law, Martha Hanson of Britt.

Arielle Zaelyn Brown
March 10, 2005
Arielle Zaelyn Brown, six-weeks, died unexpectedly on
Wednesday,
March 2, 2005, at her home in Rowan. Arielle, the infant daughter of ZoAnn Brown, was born
on January 15, 2005, at the Mercy Medical
Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 7, at the Andrews Funeral Home
in Belmond. Rev. Janet Wearda officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service.
Arielle is survived by her mother, ZoAnn Brown and a sister, Zelexis Lee
Brown, of Rowan; two brothers, Wyatt and Quentin Newton and a sister,
Savannah Newton, all of Illinois; and aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents.

McKellips
March 10, 2005
Eilene C. McKellips,
89, of Humboldt, passed away on Saturday, March 5, at the Humboldt Care
Center North.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, March 9, at the St. Mary's
Catholic Church, Humboldt. Fr. William Schreiber officiated at the 11:00
a.m. Mass.
Eilene Terwilliger, was born on July 16, 1915, in rural Humboldt County, the
daughter of Grant and Emma (Nedermire) Terwilliger. She received her
education and graduated from the Humboldt High School in 1932. She was
united in marriage to John McKellips on September 7, 1932, and the
couple made their home in Humboldt. John passed away in May of 1970.
Eilene was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Society,
American Legion Auxiliary, and the Humboldt County Historical
Association. She was very active and involved in her community until her
health declined in the last two years.
She is survived by a son, David McKellips of Humboldt; a daughter and
son-in-law, Jolene and Bill Post of Clarion; seven grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the McKellips family has requested memorials be
directed to the Hospice of Humboldt County and the St. Mary's Scholarship
programs.

Edythe Marie
Severson
March 10, 2005
Edythe Marie Severson,
93, of Clarion, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005, at the USA Health Care
Center in Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 9, at the United
Presbyterian Church in Clarion at 2:00 p.m. Burial was in the Evergreen
Cemetery, Clarion.
Edythe Marie Severson, was born on September 4, 1911, the daughter of Jess
and Cora (Eckersly) Whitman. She was raised and educated in Clarion,
graduating from the Clarion High School.
In 1937, Edythe was united in marriage to Stanley Severson in Waterloo.
After Stanley passed away in 1939, she lived with her parents in Clarion
and raised their two children.
Edythe was a member of Eastern Star and the United Presbyterian
Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Rumley and husband, Donald of West
Des Moines; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister,
Marjorie Gunderson of Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Bergel Whitman of
Clarion and Barbara Whitman of Lexington, Illinois.
Edythe was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; and one
son, John J. Severson.

Marie Frances
Minor
March 17, 2005
Marie Frances Minor,
89, of Clarion, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2005, at the USA Health
Care Center in Clarion.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, March 18, at the First Lutheran
Church in Clarion, with Pastor Gary Boen officiating. Interment will
take place at a later date. Visitation will be held two hours prior to
services at the church.
Marie Frances Carlson, was born on April 11, 1915 on a farm near Renwick,
the daughter of Thomas and Charlotte (Johnson) Carlson. The family later
moved to a farm south of Denhart.
On December 28, 1938, Marie was united in marriage to Hans Minor in
Kanawha. To this union three sons were born.
She was a member of the Fist Lutheran Church in Clarion.
Marie is survived by her three sons, Marvin of Clarion, Gary and wife,
Michelle of Goldfield and Howard and wife, Kathy Jo of Humboldt; nine
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Carlson of
Watertown, Wisconsin; and a sister, Margaret Anderson of Kanawha.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven brothers,
Clifford, Leonard, George, Floyd, Tom, Harold and Clarence; and one sister,
Mildred Anderson.

Arvid Arthur Hansen
March 31, 2005
Arvid Arthur Hansen, 92, of Belmond, formerly of Rowan,
passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held at the United Church of Rowan. Burial was in
the Graceland Cemetery near Rowan.
Arvid Arthur Hansen, was born on December 14, 1912, the son of Arthur and
Mabel (Olson) Hansen, rural Rowan. He grew up and attended school in the
Rowan area. Arvid graduated from the Rowan High School in 1931.
Following graduation, Arvid attended Iowa State Teacher's College in
Cedar Falls and Iowa State University in Ames. Following college, Arvid
returned home and farmed with his father.
On June 6, 1947, Arvid was united in marriage to L. Mildred Nielsen in
Cedar Falls. They were the parents of three children, Darwin, Mariane
and Glenn.
The couple lived and farmed together on the family farm northwest of
Rowan for many years. Music was a very important part of Arvid's life as
well as his family. He enjoyed playing in the bands, "Achin Hearts" and
"Country Cousins" for many years. He spent several years with the Civil
Air Patrol.
Arvid and Mildred retired from farming in the spring of 1973 and moved to
the family home in Rowan. Mildred passed away on February 19, 1984 and
Arvid continued to live in Rowan until October 31, 2001, when his health
forced him to enter the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond, where he
resided until his recent passing.
Arvid was a life long member of the Rowan Lions Club and the United
Church of Rowan.
Arvid is survived by a son, Darwin Hansen of Clarion; a daughter, Mariane
Vestweber and husband, Wayne of McAllen, Texas; a son, Glenn Hansen and
wife, Sandy of Belmond; four grandchildren; a nephew, Alvin Bailey and
wife, Becky of Rowan; several grandnieces and nephews; and other family
members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; son-in-law,
Norman Haupt; a sister, Edna Bailey; and a nephew, Lynn Bailey.

Marcus Lee Hull
March 31, 2005
Marcus Lee Hull, 20, of Clarion, formerly of Manly and
Mason City, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the Mercy Medical Center,
Des Moines.
A memorial service was held on Monday, March 28, at the Bride Colonial
Chapel in Manly. Rev. Mark Doebel officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service.
Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Manly.
Marcus Lee Hull, was born on February 17, 1985 in Mason City, the son of
Larry and Rebecca (Hagen) Hull. Marcus attended schools in North
Central, Manly and Roosevelt Middle School in Mason City. He worked at
EDS in Clarion.
Marcus enjoyed music, wrote his own lyrics and loved rap music, playing
video games and darts, and spending time with his friends.
Marcus is survived by his parents, Larry and Rebecca Hull of Clarion; a
brother, Larry (Chrissy) Hull of Mason City; a sister, Amanda Hull of
Mason City; grandparents, Mary Hagen of Manly, Wayne and Arlene Hull of
Nashua, Cliff and Betty Abrams of Mesa, Arizona; great-grandmother,
Harriet Holzer of Charles City; one niece; special friends, Courtney and
Ethan Brooks of Clarion; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Janis Jo Hull; two aunts, Mary Rork
and Betty Nitcher; grandfather, Orville Hagen; grandmother, Faye Jones;
and great-grandparents, Ruth and Joe Caiharr.

Karen Kay Peterson
March 31, 2005
Karen Kay Peterson, 64, of Dows, passed away on Wednesday,
March 23, 2005, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 26, at the United Methodist
Church, Dows. Pastor Tony Hershey officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service.
Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows.
Karen Kay Peterson, was born on September 25, 1940, the daughter of Stanley
Robert and Lola (Jaques) Herndon in Clarion, where she also was raised.
She graduated from the Clarion High School in 1958.
On July 7, 1962, Karen was united in marriage to Eugene Arnold Peterson at
the Church of Christ in Clarion. The couple made their home in Boone and
Stratford before settling in Dows in 1975. Karen worked as a nurse's
aide, waitress, clerk, and most recently as a housekeeper for the Dows
Care Center and at Trumps I-35 Truck Stop, until her retirement in 1992.
Karen was a member of the Dows Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending
time with her family and had a great love of children, especially her
grandchildren.
Karen is survived by two sons, Todd Peterson of Dows and Wade Peterson
and wife, Yolanda of Dakota City; two grandchildren; a sister, Dixie
Gates and husband, Ray of Ankeny; and a brother, Larry Herndon and wife,
Shirley of Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Eugene on November
9, 1984.

Eldon Roscoe "Doc" Nelson
March 31, 2005
Eldon Roscoe "Doc" Nelson, 60, died on Wednesday, March 23,
2005, at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 26, at 11:00 a.m., at the
Central Christian Church in Jefferson. Burial was in the Jefferson
Cemetery.
Eldon Roscoe "Doc" Nelson, was born on January 31, 1945 at Ottumwa, the son
of Roscoe and Darlene (Dobson) Nelson. Eldon was baptized as an infant
in the Lutheran faith. Later, upon confirming his faith in the Central
Christian Church, he was baptized with his parents in the Racoon River
south of Jefferson.
He received his basic education in the Jefferson Community School System.
He received his post-secondary education from the Boone Community
College and the Palmer College of Chiropractic. He also attended the
Colorado School of Trade for gunsmithing.
On June 17, 1967, Eldon was united in marriage to Donna Rae Smith of
Goldfield. They were the parents of two sons, Shawn and Shane, while
Eldon was attending gunsmithing school. Prior to settling in Green
County in 1981, the family also resided in Tennessee and Arkansas.
He had a passion for cooking, whether it be for his family or for the
guests at the Limburg House Bed and Breakfast, of which he was
co-innkeeper with his wife, Donna.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, Shawn Nelson and wife,
Shirley of Omaha, Nebraska and Shane Nelson and wife, Jessica of Collins; a
brother, Ross Nelson and wife, Suzanne of Sioux Center; and four
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Ray and Jane Duitscher
of Clarion; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Armour of Humboldt.

Lorraine Elizabeth
McOllough

Lorraine E. McOllough,
81, of Clarion, died on Friday, March 25, 2005, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 30, at 10:00 a.m., at the
Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home. Burial was in the St. John's
Catholic Cemetery, Clarion.
Lorraine Elizabeth Marroni, was born on March 8, 1924, the daughter of
Antonio and Louise (Buccella) Marroni in Mason City. She graduated from
the Mason City High School in 1944. She cared for her parents until the
time of their deaths in 1959.
On November 28, 1962, she was united in marriage to Dean B. McOllough at
the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. Dean and Lorraine made
their home on their farm six miles south of Clarion. She loved living on
the farm and being a wife and mother to her two daughters, Sandy and
Cathy. She was an excellent cook, her specialty being Italian food.
Lorraine was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Dean of Clarion; two daughters,
Sandra K. Humphrey and husband, Randy of Mason City and Cathy K. McOllough of Mason City; two sisters, Lucy Bilyeu and Angeline Melby; a
brother, Gabriel Massoni and wife, Patricia; sisters-in-law, Verlene
McOllough of Clarion and Ruth Marroni; brother-in-law, Ralph Johnson;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Rose; sisters,
Jenny Graham, Nancy Capuzucci, Yolanda Nashiem, Mary Johnson and Marie
Kallas; and one brother, Wuttie Marroni.

Matilda V. White
March 31, 2005
Matilda V. White, 94, of LeMars, formerly of Renwick,
passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in
LeMars.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 30, at the Renwick United
Methodist Church. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, rural Renwick.
Matilda Violet White, was born on February 18, 1911 on a farm near Renwick,
the daughter of Henry and Jennie (Rasmussen) Bram. She graduated from
the Vernon School in Humboldt County in 1930. Prior to her marriage, she
worked as a housekeeper for various families in the area.
On June 5, 1935, Matilda and Ralph A. White were united in marriage at
the home of her parents in Renwick. The couple made their home in
Renwick, where Matilda worked as a cook in the Vernon and Renwick school
buildings. She cooked for the schools for 18 years. She later cooked at
the Brayton Restaurant in Hardy and Peg's Restaurant in Renwick for 12
years. Matilda moved to LeMars on June 13, 1998 to be closer to her
family.
Matilda was a member of the Renwick United Methodist Church for over 60
years, where she was baptized as a young child. She was a long time
member of the Ladies' Aid. She was a member of the American Legion
Auxiliary, a 50-year member of the Literary Guild, and belonged to the
Neighborhood Birthday Club and the Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a daughter, Roxie Ann Anderson and husband, Jim of
LeMars; two grandchildren; a step-son, Jim White and his family of Hardy;
two step-grandchildren, Scott White and Kathy Schipull; and two
step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; five sisters,
Doris Withers, Bertie Dunlap, Anita Olsen, Eldine Adams and Jennie
Norden; and two brothers, Fred and Lewis Bram.
