Vera Westby
December 29, 2005
Vera Peterson Westby, 91, of Eagle Grove, died on
Thursday, December 22, 2005, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle
Grove.
Funeral services were held on
Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest
City. Pastor Barb Spaulding officiated. Burial was in the Oakland
Cemetery, Forest City.
Vera Frowick, was born on September
13, 1914 in Juliaetta, Idaho, the daughter of Harry and Lucy Frowick.
After living in Lakeland, Florida for five years, in 1920 the family
moved back to Thompson, Iowa where Vera grew up on the Michaelson family
farm and graduated in 1931 from high school. After graduating from the
American Institute of Business in 1921, she worked in Des Moines as a
Secretary for the President of the Bankers Life Insurance Company until
1940.
While working in Des Moines,
she met Roy L. Peterson and they were married on April 2, 1938 in Omaha,
Nebraska. They moved to Winnebago County in 1941, eventually making
their home in Forest City, where Vera worked as a legal secretary for Nels Branstad from 1952 to 1960. In 1960, she ran for and won the
election for the Clerk of the District Court, a position she held until
her retirement in 1976. In 1961, Roy passed away from a heart attack. On
August 14, 1982 she married Joseph Westby. They enjoyed living in
Decorah, Clarion and Mesa, Arizona.
Vera was active in the Lutheran
Church women's circle, Federated Club, Republican Women, Sons of Norway,
bridge club and served on the United Fund Board. She also enjoyed
knitting, china painting, oil painting, gardening and traveling.
Vera is survived by one son,
Clinton Peterson of Palm Desert, California; one daughter, Diane Edwards
and husband, Paul of Clarion; two granddaughters and their husbands;
three great-granddaughters; one brother, Larry; and one sister,
Isabelle.
Vera was preceded in death by
her parents; husbands, Roy Peterson and Joseph Westby; two sisters, Luluvon Ostrander and Edna Pelz; and a brother, Lloyd Frowick.

Albert "Al" Elias Olson
January 5, 2006
Albert "Al" Elias Olson, 82, of Belmond, died
on Thursday,
December 29, 2005, at the Belmond Medical Center Hospice Unit.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, January 2, 2006, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond. The
Rev. Rod Hopp officiated. Burial, with full military honors provided by
the Belmond Honor Guard, was held in the Belmond Cemetery.
Al Olson, was born August 25,
1923 in Jewell, the son of Albert and Jennie (Gabrielson) Olson. He
attended the Jewell Public Schools and graduated in 1941. He served in
the United States Navy during World War II, spending much of his tenure
aboard the USS Biloxi in the South Pacific.
Al was united in marriage to
Bette Ann Schmedika in Des Moines on August 27, 1949. Following their
marriage, Al continued his education at Drake University and graduated
with a B.A. Degree in 1951. He spent a period of time in private
business in Jewell. Al accepted an offer to teach, coach, and be
principal at the Alexander High School in 1956. The school eventually
consolidated to form the CAL School District with Al remaining in his role
for the first year of transition. A Master's Degree in Education
Administration from Colorado State College followed in 1963, after which
he took the position of Jr. High Principal in the Belmond Community
School District for seven years. His life long passion for education and
learning continued with the completion of a Specialist's Degree in
Secondary Education from Iowa State University in 1972. Al then accepted
the leadership role of the Belmond Community School District, serving as
Superintendent of Schools for the next 17 years before retirement on
June 30, 1987.
He is survived by his wife of
over 56 years, Bette of Belmond; his children and their spouses, Norm
Olson and wife, Carmi of Nevada, Annette Pasquariello and husband, Bob
of Olympia, Washington and Jody Phillipp and husband, Todd of Solon,
Iowa; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Valen and husband,
Johnny of Story City and Joan Hanks of Buffalo, New York; one
sister-in-law, Jane Olson of Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; two sisters, Marquerite Folkerts and Delores Thorson; and one
brother, Clifton Olson.

Adrian L. Wood
January 12, 2006
Adrian L. Wood, 75, of Neosho, Missouri, passed away on
Friday, December 30, 2005, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be
announced at a later date. His body has been cremated.
Adrian L. Wood, was born on
September 27, 1930 at Zearing, the son of Lloyd and Opal (Shaver) Wood.
He was a retired chiropractor and moved to Neosho 12 years ago from
Delta, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife,
Deloris; three daughters, Adriana Wood of Colorado Springs, Colorado,
Faith Wood of Coralville and Stephanie Blea of Denver, Colorado; three
sons, Stacy Lavern Wood of Salt Lake City, Utah, Scott Wood of Garner
and Dana Anderson of Chariton; two brothers, Richard Wood of Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma and Gerald Wood of Houston, Texas; one sister, Lou Ellen
Chalk of Beloit, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
