Myrl Currine Dahlgren
October 9, 2003
Myrl Currine Dahlgren, 92, passed away
in Des Moines on Wednesday, October 1, 2003, from complications from a
cracked vertebra in her neck.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 4, 2003, at the United Church
of Christ Congregational in Clarion. Rev. Curt Miner and Rev. John Horton
conducted the service. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. The Willim
Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of the arrangements.
Myrl Currine Mosher, was born in Wright County on July 7, 1911, the third
child of Robert and Mary Ellen Mosher.
She married Elmer Julius Dahlgren on
December 25, 1929. To this union two children were born, a son, Carroll E.
and a daughter, Corene Ann (Tootie).
Myrl enjoyed many years of owning and operating restaurants in Iowa and
Missouri. Besides working hard, she enjoyed her family, shopping, playing
cards, dressing up, taking her family out to eat, and the Chicago Cubs. In
most recent years she couldn’t wait to get to the Senior Center in Clarion
for a good game of ‘500’.
Myrl is survived by one daughter, Tootie Hall and husband, Tom; 10
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Melvin Mosher and
Robert Mosher, Jr., both of Clarion, and Donald Mosher of Eagle Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Carroll; two
sisters, Mildred Dahlgren and Velma Caquelin; and three brothers, Eldon,
Gareth and Kenneth.

John Thomas "Jack" Deimerly
October 16, 2003
John Thomas “Jack” Deimerly, 60, of
Lakeville, Minnesota, died on Thursday, October 2, 2003.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, October 7, at the St. John’s
Catholic Church in Clarion. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
John Thomas Deimerly, was born on December 29, 1942 in Clarion, the son of
John and Mary Deimerly. He attended school in Clarion, graduating from the
Clarion High School. He received a B.A. degree from Buena Vista College.
On September 11, 1971, Jack and Karen Templen were united in marriage at
Albia. The couple lived in Albia, Rockford, Illinois and Des Moines. They
are the parents of three children.
Jack was employed as an airline mechanic and inspector for Northwest
Airlines.
Jack is survived by his wife; one daughter, Lisa; two sons, Eric and Ryan;
mother, Mary Deimerly of Clarion; two sisters, Kathy Ahrens and husband,
Bill and Mary Newmann and husband, Kevin; four brothers, Jerry and wife, Nancy,
Tom and wife, Becky, Pat and wife, Cathy and Dale and wife, Kim; and many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Deimerly.

Elizabeth Mary Ternberg
October 23, 2003
Elizabeth Mary Ternberg, 92, of Clarion,
passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at the USA Healthcare Center,
Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 11, at the First Lutheran Church,
Clarion.
Elizabeth Mary Ternberg, was born on January 30, 1911, in the Premier Diamond
Mine in Transvaal, South Africa, the daughter of Frederick and Mabel Hitchman Kirsten. In 1913, the family moved to Australia where they settled
on an orchard in Boronia, a suburb of Melbourne. Later they moved to
Baldwin, a suburb closer to the city and remained there until 1923 when they
moved to the United States and settled in Mason City.
After completing high school, Betty worked in a photography studio
retouching negatives and coloring photos. In 1936, she met and married a
photographer, Erik Ternberg. The couple had their own studio in Prairie du
Chien, Wisconsin, then in Viroqua, Wisconsin and later in Clarion. After the
death of her husband in 1954, Betty continued to run the studio. During this
time she took a foster daughter, Donna Craig into her home.
In 1959, she sold the studio and became the parish secretary for the First
Lutheran Church in Clarion. In September of 1963, she received a Letter of
Call from Central Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas where she served as
parish secretary until 1980. For the next five years she worked with two
year olds in a Mothers Day Out program for a Methodist Church in Dallas. In
1986, Betty retired and returned to Clarion to live.
Betty is survived by a foster daughter, Donna Hill and husband, Robert of
Clarion; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; one nephew; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erik; and two sisters.

Donna M. Weiss
October 23, 2003
Donna M. Weiss, 69, of Clarion, died on
Monday, October 20, 2003, at the USA Healthcare in Clarion.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, at the St. John’s
Catholic Church with Father David Beckman officiating at the 10:00 a.m.
service. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Clarion.
Donna Ilg, daughter of Theodore and Mary Susan (Kramer) Ilg, was born
on November 9, 1933 in Bellevue. She was raised in Woolstock and educated in
Webster City, graduating in 1951.
Donna and Jim Weiss were united in marriage on May 9, 1958.
Donna was employed by Northwestern Bell for 14 years. She worked at the
Clarion Clinic for 23 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked for the
City of Clarion for 7 years.
Donna was an active member of the St. John’s Catholic Church and participated
in the St. John’s Sewing Group, Altar Society and Meals on Wheels.
Donna is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim; three children, Tori of
Columbia, Tennessee, Doug of Webster City and Angela Kirchner and husband,
Kevin of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren; one sister, Betty McCann of
Ames; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Kenneth and
Delbert.

Earl L. Puffett
November 6, 2003
Earl L. Puffett, 87, formerly of
Clarion, died on Monday, October 27, 2003, at the USA Health Care Center in
Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 1, from the United Methodist
Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Don Morrison officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service.
Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
Earl L. Puffett, was born on January 17, 1916, the son of Clifford and
Elizabeth (Evans) Puffett. He attended schools in Thor and Eagle Grove. Earl
served in the United States Army for three years.
On April 19, 1941, Earl was united in marriage with Dana E. Loper at Bell,
California. Dana (Esther) preceded him in death on October 9, 1997.
They moved to Iowa from California in 1949. Earl farmed the Odie Jergenson
farm southeast of Eagle Grove and then farmed by Clarion for two years. In
1960, he began work for the Farmers Co-op in Eagle Grove driving the gas
bulk truck until his retirement in 1976.
Earl was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, where he
ushered and helped with the church maintenance. Earl became a member of the
United Methodist Church in Clarion after he moved to the Meadows.
Survivors include two sons, Norman Puffett and wife, Francine of Terrytown,
New York and Don Puffett and wife, Mary of Dubuque; two granddaughters; one
step-grandson; one step-great-granddaughter; one brother, Willard Puffett
and wife, Betty Jean of Mt. Vernon, Washington.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dana; brother, Wayne;
and sisters, LaVonne and Vera Mae.
