Bert O'Neel
August 14, 2003
Bert O’Neel, 85, of Clarion, passed away
on
Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 9, at the First United
Methodist Church in Clarion. Rev. O. Donovan Morrison officiated at the
10:30 a.m. service. The Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of the
arrangements.
Bert O’Neel, was born on March 20, 1918 in Monticello, Minnesota, the son of
Carl LeRoy and Grace Mahoney O’Neel. As a young child, Bert moved with his
family to the Galt-Dows area where he attended school and graduated from
the Dows High School.
On October 4, 1941, Bert was united in marriage with Maxine Chapman in
Princeton, Missouri. Living in rural Clarion for 50 years, they raised
livestock and farmed over 500 acres. Bert and Maxine continued to farm after
moving to town in 1986.
Bert was a 4-H Leader for 20 years and enjoyed working with the children
on their projects. In 1965, the State Mechanical Corn Picking Contest was
hosted by the family on their farm.
Bert was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion, serving
several years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was involved in
various renovation projects at the church and was responsible for the mowing
and snow removal at the church for 30 years.
He is survived by his children, Carolyn Threlkeld and husband, Dennis of
Britt and Mitchell O’Neel and wife, Barbara of Ankeny; seven grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Stupka of Clarion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; and two brothers.

Naomi Peterson
August 14, 2003
Naomi Peterson, 92, of Clarion, died on
Thursday, August 7, 2003, at the USA Healthcare in Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 9, at the United Presbyterian
Church in Goldfield. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
Naomi Shackelford, was born on May 13, 1911 at Whittemore, the daughter of
Wilne and Mable (Parson) Shackelford. She lived in Whittemore, Burt and
Algona before moving to Goldfield where she graduated from the Goldfield High
School in 1931.
Naomi was united in marriage to Clarence Peterson on January 30, 1933 in
Dakota City. They lived on a farm south of Hardy for one year before moving
to Goldfield, where they lived from 1934 to 1941. In 1941, they moved to
Eagle Grove while Clarence served in the war from 1941 to 1947. They then
returned to Goldfield to live on the family farm west of town until 1972.
They returned to Eagle Grove in 1972 and lived there until retiring in 1998,
when they moved to Clarion.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence “Pete” of Clarion; daughters,
Janice Nickell and husband, Lewis of Eagle Grove and Dorothy Follmann and
husband, Leonard of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; son, Richard Peterson and wife,
Judith of Eagle Grove; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 9
great-great-grandchildren; a half brother, Richard Shackelford and wife,
Phyllis of Visalia, California; and a half sister, Gayle Browning of Boron,
California.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nona Jensen; half
brother, Floyd Shackelford; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Clare Warner Streit
August 28, 2003
Clare Warner Streit, 91, of Goldfield,
passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2003, at the Rotary Ann Care Center in Eagle
Grove.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, August 23, at the Willim Funeral Home
in Clarion.
Clare Warner Warner Streit, was born on January 25, 1912, on a farm west of
Goldfield in Wright County. She was the second of six children born to
France and Hattie Clausen Warner. She attended the Evergreen Country School for
eight years and graduated from the Goldfield High School. After a two year
course at Eagle Grove Junior College she taught in rural schools in Wright
and Humboldt counties.
She and Wallace Streit, were united in marriage in 1939 and they lived in
Clarion for two years. In 1941 they moved to Waterloo and resided there for
40 years, except for the World War II years when she was employed as a
laboratory technician for Dow Chemical Company while Wallace was in the
service. After returning to Waterloo, she was employed at the F. W. Means & Co.
for 27 years. In 1983, she and her husband moved to Goldfield for their
retirement years.
Clare was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the American
Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; parents; sisters, Irene,
Evelyn and Ruth; and two brothers, Carroll and Wesley.

Jennie Isaacson
September 4, 2003
Jennie Isaacson, 92, of Clarion, died on
Saturday, August 23, 2003, at the Trinity Regional Medical center in Fort
Dodge.
Jennie Isaacson was born on October 7, 1910, on a family farm near Alexander,
the daughter of Cornelius C. and Johanna E. Sporaa Johnson.
On December 28, 1932, Jennie was united in marriage with Clyde DeWitte
Isaacson in Rowan. To this union three children were born, two sons, Milford
and Lenvil and one daughter, Berneita.
Jennie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarion.
Jennie is survived by one daughter, Berneita and son-in-law, Bill Soesbe,
Sr. of Clarion; daughters-in-law, Mary Jane Isaacson of Melbourne and Linda
Isaacson of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; 12 grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Vernadine
Kramer and husband, Louis of Dassel, Minnesota; two brothers, Roman Johnson
and wife, Wilma of Alexander and Merline Johnson and wife, Donna of Meservey; a
sister-in-law, Minnie Johnson of Belmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; two sons, Milford and Lenvil; one sister, Irene; three brothers, Virgil, John
and one in infancy; and
two grandchildren.

Idella "Sis" Brenny
September 4, 2003
Idella “Sis” Ann Scott Brenny, 91, of
Clarion, died on Sunday, August 24, 2003, at the USA Health Care Center in
Clarion.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, August 28, at the St. John’s
Catholic Church, Clarion. Fr. David Beckman and Fr. Albert Grendler were
Celebrants. Burial was in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Clarion. The services
were under the direction of the Willim Funeral Home of Clarion.
Idella “Sis” Ann Scott, was born on July 17, 1912 in Foley, Minnesota, the
daughter of William Ward and Idella Ann (Voerding) Scott. She had one older
sister, Mary Elizabeth and later was joined by a younger sister, Isabel
Laura.
She attended school in Foley, Minnesota and was married to John (Jack)
James Brenny on July 27, 1931 in Foley.
Following their marriage the couple lived at Mayhew Lake, Rice, and
Litchfield, Minnesota and eventually settled in Clarion where Jack operated
the Clarion Dairy. During this time Sis and Jack became the parents of four
children, Gerald (Jerry), Carol, Phyllis and Michael (Mike). After her
husband, Jack passed away, Sis moved to Sun City, Arizona for 25 years.
She is survived by her children, Jerry and wife, Delores Brenny of San
Jose, California, Carol Schrader and husband, Owen Brenny of Bellevue,
Washington, Phyllis Garcia and husband, Santiago of Johnston and Mike and wife,
Jan Brenny of Okoboji; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters.

Leland Harold Dahlgren
September 11, 2003
Leland Harold Dahlgren, 65, of Clarion,
died on Saturday, August 30, 2003.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, September 2, at the St. John’s
Catholic Church in Clarion. Fr. David Beckman was Celebrant. Burial was
in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Clarion.
Leland Harold Dahlgren, was born on September 10, 1937 in Clarion, the son of
Harold and Mildred (Mosher) Dahlgren. He was raised and educated in Clarion,
graduating from the Clarion High School in 1955.
On May 27, 1957, he was united in marriage to Margery Murphy at the St. John’s
Catholic Church in Clarion. To this union three children were born, James,
Lori and Anne.
Lee was employed by the Clarion-Goldfield School System for over 30 years
as a custodian. After he retired, he continued to drive school bus. He was a
member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion.
Lee is survived by his wife, Margery of Clarion; three children, James and
wife, Rita of Williamsburg, Lori Eldridge and husband, Bill of Spokane,
Washington and Anne Peters and husband, Mark of Estherville; seven
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Yvonne Hansen of
Wichita, Kansas; three brothers, Lyle of Algona, Gary of Fort Dodge and Lonney of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Darl.
