Bernard Eugene Mattingly
Bernard Eugene Mattingly, 76, of Clarion, passed away at the Wright Medical
Center, Clarion on Tuesday, January 22, 2002.
A Mass of
Christian Burial was held on Friday, January 25, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. John's
Catholic Church, Clarion. Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery, Clarion.
The Willim
Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of the arrangements.
Bernard
Eugene Mattingly was born on December 12, 1925, the son of Daniel Owen and
Nellie Mae Kastler Mattingly of rural Clarion. He was baptized at the St. John's
Catholic Church, Clarion. Bernard was raised and educated in Clarion and
graduated from the Clarion High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy after
graduation and served on a U.S. Navy Carrier.
Bernard
and Bethene Faulkner were married at the St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion
on June 28, 1947. They made their home in Clarion where they raised their
family. Bernard worked for McNeal Grain, Cyanamid, Farm Service, and Hagie
Manufacturing. After his retirement, Bernard enjoyed working visitations and
driving the funeral coach for Willim Funeral Home.
Bernard
was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion. He also belonged to
the Knights of Columbus, Clarmond Country Club, American Legion, and the
Lions Club for many years. He served on the Hospital Board for 28 years and
was a member of the Clarion Jaycees.
Bernard is
survived by his wife, Bethene of Clarion; two children, Kathryn Bessman and
husband, Gary of Alden and Kelly O'Keefe and husband, Tim of Manly; one sister,
Emily Harris of Lake Cornelia; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bernard is
preceded in death by his parents.

Millard
(Mel) Robie
Millard (Mel) Robie, 88, of Clarion, died on Saturday, January 26, 2002.
Services
were held on Tuesday, January 29, at the United Methodist Church, Clarion. Rev. LaVonne Kaasa officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in
the Evergreen
Cemetery, Clarion. The Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of the
arrangements.
Mel Robie
was born on January 27, 1913, in Blairsburg, the son of Cyruss and Pearl
(Stafford) Robie. He graduated from the Blairsburg High School and attended
Hamilton Business College.
Mel and
Vivian Flurer were married on June 25, 1934. They moved to Casper, Wyoming, and
spent four years there before returning to Ames in 1938, where they operated
a grocery store for two years. They then moved to Gilmore City and operated
a grocery store for two years. They moved to Clarion in 1942 and opened Robie's Super Valu, which they owned and operated until he retired in 1977.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a charter member of the
Clarion Lions Club, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of
many other local organizations.
Mel is
survived by one son, Tom Robie and wife, Maxine of Holstein; one daughter,
Patricia Meyer and husband, Richard of Gowrie; five grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Helen Morris of Clarion.
