Harriet
Genevieve Lyons
Harriet Genevieve Lyons, 84,
of Clarion, died on Monday, February 4, 2002, at her home in Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 9, at the First Lutheran Church
in Clarion. Pastor Gary Boen officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Interment
was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. The Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in
charge of the arrangements.
Harriet Genevieve Nelson, was born on June 2, 1918 in Laurens, the daughter
of Herman and Nora Hansen Nelson. Harriet was raised on a farm and graduated
from the Havelock High school. She worked at a military plant during World War
II.
She and Lester Lee Lyons were married on July 29, 1944 in Laurens. The
couple lived in the Laurens area. Harriet and her family later moved and
resided in Humboldt County. They later moved to Clarion where Harriet
cleaned houses and was a homemaker.
She enjoyed her family, time spent with
Lester, and playing cards with her sister. She also loved baking, singing,
and taking care of her flowers and plants with which she won many ribbons at
the county fair. Harriet was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Ladies Sew Day.
Harriet is survived by one daughter, Noreen Nessa and husband, John of
Altamont, Illinois; three sons, Larry Lyons and wife, Linda of Clarion, Rick
Lyons and wife, Julie of Winona, Minnesota and Terry Lyons and wife, Cheri of
Clarion; 12 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several
great-grandchildren; three step-children, Karen Smith of Des Moines, Loretta
Taylor of Shingletown, California and Lee Lyons of Cordova, Tennessee; and one
sister, Pearl Sindergard; and one daughter-in-law, Jean Bunz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; two sons,
Walter Bunz and Ronald Lyons; one stepson, Dennis Lyons; two sisters, Clara
Hanson and Nadine Brazier; and one brother, Bob Nelson.

John
Franklin Terry
John Franklin Terry, 73, of
Goldfield, died on Friday, February 8, 2002, at the USA Healthcare Center, Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 12, at 2:00 p.m., at the Foust
Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
The Foust Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
John Franklin Terry, was born on September 12, 1928 in Niangua, Missouri, the
son of James and Hester (Ickard) Terry. He was raised and educated in the
area of his birth. John served in the United States Army stationed in Europe
from 1945-1948.
On August 9, 1950, John was united in marriage to Betty Dishman at
Belmond. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri and Webster City until moving
to Eagle Grove in 1956. John worked at Wilson's and the Chicago Northwestern
Railroad as a brakeman and a conductor. He retired in 1988 after 31 years of
service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis (Beaver) Terry in
1973; three brothers, Freeman, Roy and Raymond; and two sisters, Reba and
Freda.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Eagle Grove; four sons, Jonnie Terry
of Camp Humphreys, Pyongtaek, South Korea and wife, Karen of Goldfield, Jim
Terry and wife, Connie of Clarion, Craig Terry of Eagle Grove and Mike Terry
and wife, Irma of Frazier Park, California; one daughter, Linda Askvig and
husband, Jerry of Goldfield; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one
brother, Tom Terry and wife, Lila of Colfax; and one sister, Leona Terry of
Marshfield, Missouri.

Thelma
DuKate
Thelma DuKate, 77, of
Clarion, died on Saturday, February 16, 2002, at her home.
Graveside memorial services were held on Tuesday, February 26, at the Evergreen
Cemetery, Clarion. Rev. Patrick Odle officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service.
Thelma is survived by four sisters, Cordelle Jergenson of Eagle Grove,
Inzala Mulkein of Phoenix, Arizona, Geraldine Hansen of Eagle Grove and Marjori
Benson of Menhaga, Minnesota; one brother, Stan Duitscher of Dickinson,
Texas; one sister-in-law, Lucille Duitscher of Clarion; and many nieces and
nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Art and Zella Sanders Duitscher;
husband, Lowell in 1983; one daughter, Cynthia Woods in 1996; three sisters, Arthelda Duitscher, Josephine Duitscher Hagie
and Elaine Duitscher; and one
brother, Wendell.
